JAY R. RUSSIE
Jay R. Russie, 80, of Sycamore, Ill., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at his granddaughter's home in Vero Beach, Fla.
He was born April 9, 1924, in Iowa. He married Evelyn Mae Arison on July 26, 1947, in DeKalb.
He was a dairy farmer in the Sycamore area for many years and was employed at the Kishwaukee Country Club in DeKalb for more than 20 years. Jay was a member of First Baptist Church of Sycamore.
He is survived by a son, Roger Russie of Florida; a daughter, Kathy Foster of Sycamore; four grandchildren, Tammy (Shawn) Foster Pryor of Florida, Stephen Foster and Todd Foster, both of California, and Randy Foster of DeKalb; several step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Mercedes, Meagan and Kathleen Paige; and a sister, Zelda Chamberlain of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, in 2003; an infant daughter, Betty Ann; three brothers; and four sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, with the Rev. Stephen Persson officiating. A memorial visitation for friends will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. A private graveside service will be held at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb at a later date.
A memorial has been established for the family in care of Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.

EDWIN T. TUNTLAND
Edwin T. Tuntland, 91, of Sandwich, Ill., passed away on Friday, Aug. 13, 2004 at Dogwood Health Care Center in Sandwich. born March 19, 1913 in Somonauk Township, he was the son of Thomas and Inga (Oakland) Tuntland. He married Iva Ryg on Dec. 14, 1941, in Ottawa, Ill. Edwin was a farmer all of his life. He was a member of the Sandwich Moose and the DeKalb County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his daughter, Marcia (William) Vick of Sandwich and Mesa, Ariz.; three grandchildren: Greg Vick of Tempe, Ariz.; Gina (Fredrico) Hernandez of Waukesha, Wis. and Lindsay Vick of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Iva, and three sisters: Stella Hill, June Tuntland and a sister in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Burkhart Funeral Home in Sandwich, with the Rev. Wendy Witt officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. preceding the funeral service on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the charity of donor's choice.

LOWELL SAMPSON
Lowell Sampson, 82, of Leland, Ill., passed away Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Ill. born June 22, 1922 in the family farm in Victor Township, he was the son of Gladys Viola (Benson) and Levi Silas Sampson. He married Lois I. Passow on Aug. 12, 1953, at Arcadia Evangelical United Brethren Church and cherished their 45 years together until her passing in June 1999. On Sept. 1, 2000, he married Joyce (Keenan) Dienst at Leland United Methodist Church.
Lowell graduated from Leland High School in 1940. He was involved in farming all of his life while enjoying owning and operating Lowell Sampson, Inc., a trucking firm, hauling local and long distances for almost 50 years. He was a member of the Midwest Truckers Association and served on the Northern Illinois Advisory Board. He was an active member of the Leland United Methodist Church, an honorary member of the Leland Fire Department, member of the Masonic Lodge and also DeKalb County Farm Bureau. He served on the Leland Cemetery Association Board and was the cemetery's caretaker for many years. He had kept time at Leland basketball games since 1941, and ws inducted into the IBCA Friends of Basketball Hall of Fame. He loved music and was a regular attendee of the DeKalb Municipal Band concerts on Tuesday nights. He often reflected on his lifelong friendships through these many endeavors.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two sons, Larry (Marlene) Sampson of Leland and Lonny (Lee) Sampson of Chester, Va.; his step-son, Gary (Glenna) Crocker of Somonauk; two step-daughters, Gaydeen Gilkerson of Earlville and Carole Kolsar of Las Vegas, Nev. and his brother, Gerald (Carol) Sampson of Leland. He was also the proud grandfather of five grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 5:30 p.m. today at the Leland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Linda Deming officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the church, preceding the funeral service. Burial will be private at the Leland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Leland United Methodist Church or to the Leland Fire Department.

CAROL COOK PRICE
Carol Cook Price, 64, of Sycamore, Ill., and Bishop Hill passed away July 19, 2004, in Sycamore.
She was the loving wife of Ronald D. Price; mother of Jennifer Thomas, Renee Smith and Nikki Price; sister of Roger Cook and Nancy Pollard; and grandmother of eight.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at Boutell Memorial Concert Hall in the Music Building at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
A memorial fund is established in care of Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.

ALLAN J. PEURA
Allan J. Peura, 64, formerly of DeKalb, Ill., died May 15, 2004, in Bullhead City, Ariz.
He was born April 25, 1940, in Teuva, Finland. He came to DeKalb at the age of 10.
He married Pauline Price on Jan. 4, 1963. Al worked many years at Wurlitzer as an electronics technician in the piano division.
Al moved to Kingston, Wis., in June 1992 to purchase Al's Mill Pond Saloon. He loved the area and the people.
Al had been an amateur radio operator for 48 years, operating under the call of K9CCL.
He had a love for his radios, but also for playing pool. There wasn't a pool hall he hadn't met or any challenge that went unaccepted over the years.
Al is survived by his daughter, Paula (Mike) Dahl, and three granddaughters, Chezare and Breana Carlson and Denae Dahl, all of Markesan, Wis.
A memorial will be held from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Sycamore Park off Airport Road in Sycamore.

THOMAS G. 'TOM' PETERSON
Thomas G. "Tom" Peterson, 69, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
Born April 16, 1935, in Alma, Wis., he was the son of George and Maude E. (Scroggin) Peterson. He married Patricia Joan Thomas on Nov. 19, 1960, at the First United Methodist Church in DeKalb.
Tom was a teacher for 35 years, beginning in the Hinckley School District for six years and retiring from the DeKalb School District. Tom then worked for 10 years as assistant tax assessor for DeKalb Township.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in DeKalb and the Retired Teachers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; three children, Mark (Christine) Peterson and Teri (Randall) Duncan, both of McKinney, Texas, and Steve Peterson of DeKalb; five grandchildren, Kaitlan, Jillian, Joseph, Jack and Thomas; and other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at the First United Methodist Church in DeKalb, with Pastor Kitty Ganzel officiating. The family requests that you bring a photo or written memory to the church to be placed on a memorial board to be shared with family and friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday. Cremation has taken place at Anderson Funeral Home Ltd. Crematory in DeKalb, and private family interment will be held at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.

VIRGINIA C. KUTER
Virginia C. Kuter, 87, of Dixon, Ill., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon.
Virginia was born Jan. 1, 1917, the daughter of William and Minnie (Wassmann) Rolf.
She married Paul Kuter on Sept. 7, 1940, in Hinckley, Ill. She worked as an accounting clerk for USF&G in Dixon for 26 years prior to her retirement in 1977.
Virginia was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon, a member of United Methodist Women, a Pink Lady for KSB Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her church and community and thoroughly enjoyed gardening, plate painting and flower pressing.
Survivors include her husband, Paul, of Dixon; two sons, Dr. David P. (Hilda) Kuter of Madison, Wis.; Richard R. (Emelyn) Kuter of Saudia Arabia; a daughter, Susan J. (Maurice) Reed of Dixon; a brother, Raymond (Eleanor) Rolf of San Diego, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Helen Rolf of DeKalb; and five grandchildren, Chris (Lisa) Kuter, Andrew Kuter, Emily Kuter, Timothy Kuter and Clarissa Kuter.
Virginia was preceded in death by a brother, William Rolf; a sister, Evelyn Bastian; and s daughter-in-law, Judy Cox Kuter.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Soon Sun Lee officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Preston Schilling Funeral Home, 213 Crawford Ave., Dixon, and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
A memorial has been established to the Grace United Methodist Church and to Heritage Square.

IRMA V. PITTARD
Irma V. Pittard, 90, born in Lee, Ill., died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, N.Y.
Arrangements were entrusted to Moloney's Bohemia Funeral Home, 1320 Lakeland Ave., Bohemia, NY 11716.

DELORES C. BYERS
Richard T. and Delores C. Byers, formerly of Waterman and Kirkland, Ill., will be interred at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at South Grove Cemetery.

MARJORIE E. (DIMMEN) ROINAS
Marjorie Eileen (Dimmen) Roinas, 73, of Port Orchard, Wash., died of cancer Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at her home.
Born Nov. 28, 1930, in Tacoma, Wash., she was the daughter of Walter and Margaret Dimmen. Margie was raised in the Finnish-Norwegian community in Ruston, Wash., with Point Defiance Park as her back yard.
Her family moved to DeKalb, Ill., where Margie met and married the love of her life, Nels Roinas. Returning to Washington, they lived in Tacoma and Aberdeen before settling in Port Orchard. Margie and Nels have been longtime members of Grace Bible Church. Her personal relationship with Jesus Christ was most important to her.
Margie was happiest when surrounded by her family and loved the sounds of grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing on their farm. She enjoyed children and was a sub-teacher at Bright Beginnings Preschool in Port Orchard. Her sense of humor and love of life are forever engraved upon the hearts of her family. Time spent with family and their many friends were a treasure to her and a blessing for everyone.
She is survived by her husband; three children, Cyndi (Mike) Smith of Gig Harbor, Wash., Jan (Jack) Hansen of Port Orchard and Nels (Lisa) Roinas of Belfair, Wash.; a sister, Barbara (John) Nelson of Illinois; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at Grace Bible Church, with fellowship following at the church.

DALE C. CONNER
Dale C. Conner, 83, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Bethany Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in DeKalb, Ill., after a long illness.
Born Aug. 30, 1920, in Rochelle, he was the third son of William G. and Jeanette P. Conner.
The family moved to DeKalb in the early 1920s, and eventually moved to South Fourth Street. Dale attended Glidden Elementary School and then graduated from DeKalb Township High School in 1939. He developed his love and talent for music early in his life, especially with his trombone. During his four years at DTHS, he played trombone in the concert, pep and marching bands and competed in state solo trombone competitions as a junior and senior. After graduation, he played trombone in the DeKalb Municipal Band and the Rochelle Community Band. He was employed as a piano tuner by Wurlitzer Piano Co. in DeKalb, and then Cable Conover Piano in Oregon, Ill., and then in Memphis, Tenn., where he retired in 1982. He returned to DeKalb in 1982 and resided at Barb City Manor until 1998 when he moved to Bethany Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.
He is survived by two brothers, William B. Conner of Loves Park and Charles E. Conner of Overland Park, Kan.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert M. Conner.
Final arrangements were made by Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home of DeKalb, with interment on July 29 next to his parents at Lawn Ridge Cemetery in Rochelle.

C. LORRAINE PRESTEGAARD
C. Lorraine Prestegaard, 80, of Aiken, S.C., formerly of Lee, Ill., died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 30, 1923, in Shabbona Township, she was the daughter of Clifford and Helen (Tysdale) Kittleson.
She lived her early years on a farm in DeKalb County. After graduating from Shabbona High School, she moved to DeKalb where she worked and attended Northern Illinois State Teachers College, now Northern Illinois University. She married Lewis A. Prestegaard on Dec. 9, 1945, at Calvary Lutheran Church in rural Lee. She and her husband moved back to the family farm in Lee County in 1950 and together built the farm they called LoraLu Acres. She was a full partner in the farming business for the next 40 years. A lifelong member of Calvary Lutheran Church in rural Lee, she was an active Bible study leader and Sunday School teacher, and she held local and district offices in the organization of the American Lutheran Church Women. She was devoted to her family and spent many years as a caregiver to various family members. In 1997, Aiken, S.C., became her home. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aiken.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol (James) Cutsinger of Aiken; and three grandchildren, Leah, Kellyn and Trevor Cutsinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis, on Aug. 12, 1995; a daughter, Susan; and a brother, Carlos E. Kittleson.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at Calvary Lutheran Church in rural Lee. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in rural Steward. Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials can be made to Calvary Lutheran Church.
Arrangements were completed by Jacobson Funeral Home in Shabbona.

WAYNE MIKOLAJCZAK
Wayne Mikolajczak, 54, of Flagstaff, Ariz., formerly of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, of end-stage liver failure at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Portland, Ore.
He was a Vietnam War veteran and a beloved husband, loving father and cherished grandfather.
He was defined by his love of classic cars, road trips and, most of all, his love of his children and family.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Sherman of Flagstaff, Ariz.; five children, Michelle Mikolajczak of Los Angeles, Calif., Kelly Mikolajczak of Hanover Park, Mark (Ronnah) Mikolajczak of Kodiak, Alaska, Marty Mikolajczak of Cortland and Michael Sherman of Flagstaff; three grandchildren, Shiloh, Isabelle and Justin; his mother and father, Annelore and Edward Mikolajczak of DeKalb; three brothers, Jeff Mikolajczak of Las Vegas, Nev., Gary (Rose Marie) Mikolajczak of Addison and Jack Mikolajczak of DeKalb; four nephews; and two nieces.
A private memorial service was held Sunday, Aug. 8, in DeKalb. Cremains were interred Monday, Aug. 9, at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.
Please omit flowers. The family requests instead that those who are interested become organ donors.

BRIAN L. MARSDEN
Brian L. Marsden, 42, of Sycamore, Ill., formerly of Milton, Wis., passed away Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in Sycamore.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Ehlert-Ward Funeral Home, 315 Lord St., Edgerton, WI 53534, with the Rev. Richard Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Albion Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
