Adkins, George F.
December 21, 2003
GALESBURG - George F. Adkins, 83, 1127 Willard Ave., died at 7:07 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 18, 2003) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born May 30, 1920, in Rochester, N.Y., the son of Raymond A. Adkins and Ethel Hirschmann.
He married Jean MacDonald in 1949. She died in 1952. He married Mary Eloise Eicher on Feb. 14, 1955, in Providence, R.I.
Surviving are his wife; cousins, a Godchild and a nephew, John, whom he helped raise.
An Army Air Corps veteran, he served as a lieutenant in the 2nd Air Division, 8th Air Force in the European Theatre.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard University, a master's from Boston University and a doctoral certificate from the University of Pennsylvania.
He was a social worker in Providence, Gardiner, Mass., and Lebanon, Penn.; was director of Brown County Family and Children Services in Green Bay, Wis., from 1961 to 1971; and administrator of social services at the Galesburg Mental Health Center from 1971 until his retirement in 1986.
He was a member and officeholder in the National Association of Social Workers, a member and former president of the Human Rights Commission in Green Bay and assisted with the Human Rights Commission with Indian-Community Affairs. He was member of community theaters in Gardiner and Green Bay.
He was a member of the Green Bay Rotary Club and the Lincoln-Douglas Kiwanis Club in Galesburg.
He was a member and lay reader of the Cathedral of Green Bay Diocese, and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Galesburg, where he was Eucharistic minister a member of the men's club.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 29 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 28 in Watson Funeral Home; family will be present from 3 to 4 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Burial will be in St. Columbia Cemetery, Newport, R.I.
Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church or Costa Catholic School.

Albert, Lois
September 23, 2003
MONMOUTH - Lois Albert, 70, Monmouth, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday (Sept. 22, 2003) at home.
She was born Nov. 13, 1932, in Macomb, the daughter of Forest V. and Ina May Day Senders.
She married Robert DeFord on Oct. 21, 1949. She later married Dale Eugene Albert on Dec. 21, 1967. He died Sept. 4, 1986.
Surviving are four daughters, Marjorie (and Jim) Woods, Canton, Roberta (and Everett) VanSkike, Smyrna, Tenn., Esther (and Dan) Murphy, Hollister, Mo., and Connie Albert, Davenport, Iowa; four sons, Ronnie (and Freda) DeFord and Jeff DeFord, both of Monmouth, Joe (and Heather) DeFord, Oquawka, and Tim DeFord, Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; five sisters, Eva Hughes, Mankato, Minn., Alice Welch, Monmouth, Francis Pounds, Helena, Mont., Anna Ruth Riley, Knoxville, and Florence Jacobs, Galesburg; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one stepdaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter and two brothers.
She was reared and educated in Monmouth and attended Beauty College in 1964.
She was a retired beautician, and worked at Willits School as a cafeteria cook.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she served as chairman of the Missionary Circle, deaconess, a member of the church board and kitchen committee, office volunteer, the building committee for the new church and was the photographer of the church as it progressed. She also was a member of the Red Hatters Club, O.N.O. Club and the VFW Auxiliary.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church, with the Rev. Jim Epperson officiating. Friends may call on Thursday afternoon at Turnbull Funeral Home; family will be present from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Roseville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Monmouth.

Allen, Audry
November 11, 2003
GALESBURG - Audry Allen, 75, 434 E. Dayton, died at 11:32 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 9, 2003) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born Oct. 15, 1928, in Williamsfield, the daughter of Thomas A. and Julia Eastman Maner.
She married Orrie B. Allen on Sept. 22, 1947, in Knoxville. He died July 16, 2002.
Surviving are two sons, Orrie (and Sue) Allen, Oregon, Ill., and Gary C. Allen, Galesburg; a brother, Kenneth (and Cheryl) Maner, Galesburg; two sisters, Ilene Hobbs, Knoxville, and Jeanne (and Dale) Arnold, Moline; two grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of Teamsters Local 627.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Watson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Milton Marquith officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to any charity.

Alice Allen
February 22, 2004
KNOXVILLE - Alice Allen, 93, a resident of Good Samaritan Nursing Home, died at 12:04 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 21, 2004) in the nursing home.
Arrangements are pending at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville.

Allen, Margene D.

NAPERVILLE - Margene D. Allen, 69, died Dec. 13, 2003, in Alden Nursing Center.
She was born July 21, 1934, in Galesburg, the daughter of Herman S. and Margaret Cupp Allen.
Surviving are two sons, Allen (and Connie) Cebula, Naperville, and Charles S. (and Tamie) Cebula, Frankfort; one daughter, Anne Cebula (and Davis) Smith, Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Andrew Stewart Cebula.
She was a 1954 graduate of the University of Missouri, with a bachelor's degree in journalism.
She owned and operated an antique store in Carmel, Ind., from 1972 to 1981.
Private funeral services were held.
Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, Naperville, was in charge of arrangements.

Allen, Alice
February 28, 2004
KNOXVILLE - Alice Allen, 93, 407 N. Hebard St., died at 12:04 p.m. Feb. 21, 2004, in Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Knoxville, of natural causes.
She was born Oct. 22, 1910, in Florida.
She attended college for two years.
She worked as a bookkeeper in Peoria.
She was of Baptist faith.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. No visitation is planned.
Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, is in charge of arrangements.

M. Eloise Allen
April 6, 2004
GALESBURG - M. Eloise Allen, 88, 69 Herring Ave., died at 8:55 p.m. Sunday (April 4, 2004) in the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.
She was born March 4, 1916, in Yates City, the daughter of William H. and Ada B. Cunningham Allen.
Surviving are cousins.
She graduated from Yates City High School.
She worked at Bud Nelson State Farm Insurance Agency for 16 years, managed the former Spiegles catalog store for 20 years and was a real estate agent.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was church organist.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Bethel Baptist Church, with the Revs. Lee Johnson and Kirk Kendall officiating. No visitation is planned. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Yates City Cemetery. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to her church, the Galesburg Rescue Mission and Women's Shelter or Giddeons International.

Allen, Elaine
August 2, 2004
ALEXIS - Elaine Allen, 64, Alexis, died at 1:35 a.m. today (Aug. 2, 2004) at her home.
She was born April 4, 1940, in Monmouth, the daughter of Rolland and Edith Bertelsen Niles.
She married Earl Wesley Allen on June 27, 1958, in Alexis.
Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Linda (and Ed) Lehan, Racine, Wis., Connie (and Brian) Tollakson, Waukeska, Wis., and Patty Allen, Hartland, Wis.; one son, Earl (and Christina) Allen, Englewood, Ohio; two brothers, Gerald (and Joyce) Niles, Russiaville, Ind., and Kenneth (and Terry) Niles, Ellensburg, Wash.; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
She attended Gerlaw and Alexis grade schools and graduated from Alexis High School in 1958.
She was the bookkeeper for the family business for 20 years. She later worked as the sales coordinator in the children's department at Sears from 1985 until retiring in 2001.
She was a member of the Alexis United Presbyterian Church serving as trustee and Sunday school teacher. She was active in the church's Mary Circle and choir. She also was a member of the Alexis Women's Association serving various offices within the club.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Alexis United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev Phil Cooper officiating. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis; family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Alexis Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Alexis United Presbyterian Church.

Ames, Betty A.
July 29, 2004
FAIRHAVEN, Mass. - Betty A. Ames, 75, Fairhaven, formerly of Bushnell, Ill., died at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday (July 27, 2004) in Alden Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born March 3, 1929, in Macomb, the daughter of Carl William and Thelma H. Cannivat Hegstrom.
She married Clark E. Ames.
Surviving are a daughter, Lyn Ames, Fairhaven; and a brother, William J. Hegstrom, Delray Beach, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Clark.
She retired from Western Illinois University. She was active in genealogical research, having many publications and research documents archived and helping in Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, involved with the Boy Scouts and served as a room mother for her children; was a sponsoring mother for the Rainbow Girls; was a member of Lucille Chapter 361 Order of Eastern Star for more than30 years; and active in Rebeka's and Business and Professional Women's Club.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service and burial of ashes will be at a later date. Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, Bushnell, is in charge of local arrangements.
