Annette A. Faber
Annette A. Faber, age 83, of Savanna, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna, Father Moises Apostol officiated. Burial was on Friday, August 20, 2004 in the Mount Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery, Stickney. Friends were asked to call from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
Annette was born November 15, 1920 to Vincent and Anne Zabito in Sag Harbor Long Island, New York. Annette married Eugene Faber on February 23, 1946 in New York, NY. Eugene died on December 26, 1990 in Iowa City, IA.
Annette is survived by one son, Glenn Faber of Savanna. Her parents, husband, one brother and one sister, precede Annette in death.

Margaret E. Noser
Margaret E. Noser, age 90, of Mt Carroll, died Sunday August 15, 2004 in the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt Carroll.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004 in the Lanark First Brethren Church, Lanark, Pastor Arnold Owens officiated. Burial was in the Lanark Cemetery. Visitations were held from 3:00 ­ 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 ­ 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 18 at the Lanark First Brethren Church. Memorials may be directed to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home or the Lanark First Brethren Church in Margaret's name. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Frank-Law Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll.
Margaret was born August 20, 1913 in Mt. Carroll Township to Lewis E. and Mamie E. (Meister) Weidman. She married Leslie Guenzler in December of 1933. Leslie passed away December, 1939. Margaret was united in marriage to Haven H. Noser in Mt. Carroll on June 28, 1941. Haven passed away in Freeport, IL on May 25, 2004.
Margaret was a homemaker and farmed with her husband for over forty-five years. She kept detailed records of their farming operation, while overseeing the gardening and canning for the growing family. She was a member and a deaconess of the Lanark First Brethren Church. She was also a member of the Missionary Society of the church, Homemakers Club of Freedom Township, and Home Extension. Margaret loved family, friends, church, and gardening. She helped Haven with his cap collection, and she even started a collection of her own. Haven and Margaret enjoyed going horseback riding in their earlier years.
Margaret is survived by her four sons; Lee (Pearl) Guenzler of Union Grove, Wisconsin, Donald (Judy) Guenzler of Red Wing, Minnesota., Richard (Sandy) Noser of Marion, Ohio, and Marvin (Carol) Noser of Ligonier, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Marge Guenzler of Amboy; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; Mrs. Leora Strieff and Mrs. Mavis Lerol, both of Pine Island, Minnesota., Robert (Arlene) Noser of Zumbrota, Minnesota., and Pete Gullickson.
Both her husbands Leslie and Haven, her parents, and her son, Kenneth Guenzler, four brothers, and one sister, precede Margaret in death.

Cheryl (Gay) Barr
Cheryl (Gay) Barr, age 35, of Savanna, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa.
Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2004 in the First United Methodist Church, Savanna, Reverend Thomas Moe officiated. Burial was in the Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna. Friends were asked to call from 4-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 20 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Memorials may be made in Cheryl's name for her children.
Cheryl was born Tuesday, March 25, 1969 in Albany, Georgia to James and Joyce (Eickert) Gay. She graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1987. Cheryl and Gregory Barr were married September 9, 1995 in the First United Methodist Church of Savanna. They are parents of three daughters, Holly Lynn, Allison Joyce and Jessica Inez. Cheryl was a homemaker and had also worked for Elkay, and Swiss Colony, both of Savanna and for K-Way in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. She loved participating in her children's activities. Cheryl also enjoyed gardening and bowling in the Mt. Carroll Women's Bowling League.
Cheryl's family includes her husband, Gregory of Savanna: three daughters, Holly Lynn, Allison Joyce and Jessica Inez, all at home; her mother, Joyce Gay of Savanna; two brothers, Dennis (Susie) Gay of Unionville, Iowa and Michael (Kim) Gay of Clinton, Iowa; three sisters, Jackie (Michael) Leitzen of Maquoketa, Iowa, Pattie Gay of Savanna and Debbie (Louie) Maike of Savanna. Her maternal and paternal grandparents; an infant daughter, Keri; her father-in-law, Bill and her brother-in-law, Mike, precede Cheryl in death.

Wilbur H. Klein
Wilbur H. Klein, age 66, of Shannon formerly of Savanna died Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA.
Wilbur was born January 26, 1938 in Taft twp. Taylor County, WI, son of Julius and Eleanor (Westaby) Klein. He attended Savanna High School, and served in the US Army 82nd Airborne where he attended jump School. Wilbur married Marsha Barker April 16, 1977 in Mt. Carroll. He had worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and retired from Metform Co. in Savanna. He enjoyed woodworking, day trips, working on cars, designing things, sewing & his grandchildren.
Wilbur is survived by his wife; son, Lyle Eric (Lorilei) Klein of Carthage; daughter, Deanna Louise (Eric) Deal of Freeport; six grandchildren, Erick Klein, Nick Klein, Chloe Klein, & Baby Klein, Hunter Deal and Hanna Deal; sister, Ruth (Robert) Wilson of Savanna and many nieces & nephews. His parents; two brothers, Albert & Robert; and sister, Clara, precede Wilbur in death.
Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 20, 2004 at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. Visitations were held on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon. Burial was in the Brethren Cemetery in Shannon. A memorial fund has been established.

Eileen May Christensen
Eileen May Christensen, 89, of Mt. Carroll, died Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at her home in Mt. Carroll.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2004 at the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Wacker, Pastor Lisa Mapes officiated. Interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll. Visitations for Eileen were held Friday, August 20, 2004 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Frank-Law Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. There was a visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Eileen's name at the funeral home.
Eileen Bashaw was born February 20, 1915, the daughter of Barton and Augusta (Sorensen) Bashaw. On December 26, 1934 Eileen was united in marriage to Harold "Doc" Christensen in Mt. Carroll. Eileen was a member of Hickory Grove Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was very active in the church and played piano for the church for over forty years. She was also a member of the Daughters of American Revolution. Eileen was a homemaker. She enjoyed fancy work, reading, and bowling, but most important to her was her family and grandchildren.
Eileen will be deeply missed by her husband, Harold; two daughters, Joyce Babcock and her husband Les of New Bern, NC and Karen Stirkins and her husband Clark of Auburn, WA; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Her parents, and one brother, Robert, precede Eileen in death.

MARIETTA BONICAMP ALEXANDER
VERO BEACH, FL -- Marietta Bonicamp Alexander, 88, died Saturday, August 24, 2002 at VNA Hospice House of Indian River after a brief illness.Mrs. Alexander was born May 16, 1914 in Fort Madison, IA, the daughter of Anthony and Anna (Filer) Bonicamp. She moved to Vero Beach in 1989 from Rock Falls. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rock Falls and attended the First Church of God in Vero Beach. Survivors include three daughters, Betty L. Gibson, Robin R. Williams, both of Vero Beach, Diane E. Gibson of Louisville, KY; a son, Loren D. Alexander of Old Town, FL; 11 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at the Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach, FL with the Reverend Biz Gainey of the First Church of God in Vero Beach officiating. Visitation will be on Monday at the Strunk Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2002 with the Reverend Donald George of Rock River Christian Center officiating. Local arrangements were completed by the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. A memorial has been established to the VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1111 36th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Herbert Reed. Condolences may be made and sent to www.SchillingFuneralHome.com

RAYMOND A. JOHNSON
STERLING - Raymond A. Johnson, 80, died Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at his home. He was a truck driver in Teamsters Local 455 driving for construction until he retired. Mr. Johnson was born October 9, 1921 in Eldena, the son of John W. and Annabelle (Mocklin) Johnson. He married Helen Darr on February 5, 1942 in Savanna. She preceded him in death December 8, 1984. He was a Tech 5 in the US Army from April 22, 1943 until January 10, 1946 and served in the Pacific Theater at Oro Bay, New Guinea, New Britain, an island off New Guinea, Lingayen Gulf and Manila in the Philippines, and Nagora, Japan. He was a member of the VFW Sterling #326 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2783. Survivors include two sons, Harvey R. (Bonnie) Johnson of Sterling, Randy L. (Julie) Johnson of Dixon, a special friend Pat Burks and her family, Roberta (William) Dean, George (Angie) Burks, Robert (Barb) Burks, Tim (Brandi) Burks, Bill (Lisa) Burks, Kevin (Rhonda) Burks; five grandchildren, Fred (Sandy) Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Sharlene Britt, Chad Johnson, Lisa Johnson; step-grandchildren, Melissa, Angela, Randy and Rachel and five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kara, Gabriel, Sierra and Jason. Also preceding him in death was one brother, Robert “Buck” Johnson. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Herbert Reed officiating. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to KSB Hospice. LLOYD A. LANDIS
STERLING - Lloyd A. Landis, 90, of 3112 Freeport Road, died Saturday, August 17, 2002 at Resthave Retirement Home in Morrison. He farmed for many years in the area before his retirement.
Mr. Landis was born May 9, 1912 in Sterling, the son of Abraham B. and Amanda R. Weaver Landis. He married Marie A. Braitsch in Sterling on June 19, 1936 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He was a life long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the Midwest Truckers Association, Whiteside County Farm Bureau, and Corn Item Collectors Association. For several years, he was in a partnership with his brother Lyle Landis, doing business as Landis Brothers Custom Shelling & Hauling.
He is survived by his wife, Marie of Sterling; two daughters, Ruth (Willard) Stanley of Sterling and Ann (Bill Adams) Reed of Morrison; four grandchildren, Brian (Diane) Reed of Sterling, Mark (Ann) Reed of Sycamore, Greg (Michelle) Stanley of Greer, SC., and Gary Stanley of Sterling; five great-grandchildren, Brandon & Nathan Reed of Sterling, Michael & Joshua Reed of Sycamore, and Candice Stanley of Greer, SC.; two nieces; and one nephew.
His brother, Lyle Landis, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend David Beckstrom and Reverend Herbert Reed co-officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established.

HELEN M. SEGNERI REILLY
JOLIET - Helen M. Segneri Reilly, 84, died Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. She had been employed as a Mental Health Technician at Dixon Developmental Center until she retired.
Mrs. Reilly was born October 28, 1917 in Sterling, the daughter of Louis and Angeline (Ferri) Segneri. She married John C. Reilly on May 6, 1939 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He died June 7, 1974. She was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a past Senior Regent of Women’s Auxiliary Moose Lodge #726 and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #902 Rock Falls.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Reilly of Rockford; two daughters, Marie (Robert) Reilly Harrod of Joliet, Patricia Reilly of Sterling; one brother, Silvio (Helen) Segneri of Rock Falls; one sister, Nancy Cooney of Sterling; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister Genevieve Concotelli, and two brothers, Tony Segneri and Alfred Segneri.
Celebration of the Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2002 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sterling. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.
A memorial has been established to the American Heart Association.

MERLE L. ENGEL
STERLING - Merle L. Engel, 92, Coventry Village, formerly of 306 W. 12th Street, died Sunday, September 15, 2002 at CGH Medical Center.
Mrs. Engel was born December 28, 1909, south of Rochelle in Lee County, the oldest daughter of Miles and Eva (Olson) Stevens. She attended Steward and Rochelle schools and moved to Sterling in 1936. She married Harvey Melhausen who died in 1969. She then married Clifford Engel. He died in 1994. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Sterling, and Moose Lodge #726 Women of Sterling.
Survivors include three sisters, Ruth Sprecker of Dixon, Lucille (Kenneth) Page of Glasgow, MT, and Betty (James) Hart of Malta; two step-children, Virginia (Charles) Galvin and Kenneth Engel, both of California and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 1 PM, Thursday, September 19, 2002 at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend David Beckstrom, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from Noon until 1 PM, Thursday at the Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling.

HAROLD C. MANON
STERLING - Harold C. Manon, 88, of 2204 4th Avenue, died Saturday, September 21, 2002 at his home. He had been employed at National Manufacturing for over 40 years before retiring in 1979.
Mr. Manon was born May 27, 1914 in Rock Falls, the son of Charles and Florence Pittman Manon. He married Helen Schrader on Dec. 26, 1936 in Rock Island. She preceded in him in death on Feb. 5, 1995. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sterling. Survivors include one son, Charles (Susan) Manon of Rock Falls; one daughter, Susan (Jerry) Little of Sterling; one brother, Kenneth (Norma) Manon of Dixon; one grandson; and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend David Beckstrom, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 10-11 AM at the funeral home. A memorial to Hospice of the Rock River Valley has been established.

GESINE “SINI” MICHELS
STERLING - Gesine “Sini” Michels, 94, of 1904A Third Avenue, died Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at Sterling Pavilion. She was a homemaker all her life, farming with her husband on a farm north of Sterling in Jordan Township until his death in 1970. In 1971, she moved into Sterling.
Mrs. Michels was born May 2, 1908 in the town of Dornum in Ostfriesland, Germany,
The daughter of Wessel and Tatje (Behrends) Bruns. She married Herman G.J. Michels on February 1, 1929 in Dornum, Germany. She and her husband arrived in the U.S. in March, 1929 and lived in Polo. Later, they moved to Lanark and Harmon until they came to Sterling in 1942. She was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since 1929 and belonged to the ALCW, the Mary Martha Circle and the Dorcas Circle.
Surviving are three daughters, Wendy (Dean) Zimmerman of Peoria, AZ, Arlene (Dick) Adams of Sterling, Shirley (Keith) Conklen of Sterling; two sons, Herman W. (Lucille) Michels of Moline, John G. Michels of Springfield, MO, eight granddaughters, Dee (Alan Erickson) Zimmerman, Karen (Marshal) Longanecker, Louise Mary Michels, Cindy (Pete) Garcia, Cheryl (Brian) Syckes, Chris (Bill) Haenitsch, Kathy Michels, Carol (Javier) Frias, 11 grandsons, Dale (Bridgette) Zimmerman, Michael (Andrea) Adams, Terry (Michelle) Adams, Keith O. (Stacy) Conklen, Kevin (Rhonda) Conklen, Darrell Michels, Randy Michels, Mark Michels, Allen Michels, Daniel (Diane) Michels, and David Michels, 31 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild,
and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, her daughter, Mary G. Michels, her son Frederick Michels, one granddaughter, Kathy Conklen, two grandsons, Daniel Zimmerman, Larry Michels and 14 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, September 21, 2002 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Reverend David Beckstrom and Reverend Raymond Heilener officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-11 AM, Saturday at the church.
A memorial has been established.

EDWIN A. NEHRING
STERLING - Edwin A. Nehring, 94, of 2201 E. Lefevre Rd, Sterling, died Saturday, September 28, 2002 at Coventry Village. He was employed by Illinois Bell for 48 years until his retirement in 1973. After his retirement in 1973, he drove for R.C. Smith Mr. Nehring was born March 7, 1908, in Edgar, WI., the son of Carl and Emilie (Degner) Nehring. He married Murial Govig on June 6, 1940. She died May 21, 1964. He then married Charlotte McKnight Hansen on August 13, 1964. She died January 10, 2002. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ron (Karen) Nehring of Morrison, Jim (Jacquy) Nehring of Lisbon, Iowa; one step-son Charles (Susan) Hansen of LaJolla, Ca; and one step-daughter Christine Radostits of Homewood; a sister, Ruth Simpson of Rockford; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ben, Oscar, and Robert Nehring, and one sister Hilda. Funeral services will be at 1 PM, Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sterling, with the Rev. Daniel Behmlander officiating. Burial will be at Lawnridge Cemetery, Rochelle. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Tuesday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.
A memorial has been established to Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church.
