Bainbridge, Jesse M.
January 6, 2004
EAST MOLINE - Jessie Marie Bainbridge, 77, East Moline, died Sunday (Jan. 4, 2004) in Trinity Medical Center West, Rock Island.
She was born May 30, 1926, in Dahinda, the daughter of James C. and Hilda Godsil.
She married James E. Bainbridge on July 6, 1942, in Kahokia, Mo. He died in 1994.
Surviving are a son, James "Tex" (and Peg) Bainbridge, Peterson, Iowa; two daughters, Jerre Bainbridge and Jennifer (and Dale) DeFauw, both of East Moline; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters, a granddaughter and a grandson.
She and her husband lived in Galesburg and Oquawka until her husband retired and they moved to St. Ambroise, Canada. She spent the last several years in Illinois.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Cremation will follow the visitation. Graveside service will be at 9 a.m. Monday in Rock Island National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.

Baker, Russell E.
February 2, 2004
WATSONVILLE, Calif. - Russell Emanuel Baker, 77, Watsonville, died Jan. 19, 2004, of natural causes.
He was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Burlington, Iowa.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Patricia (Stevens) Baker, formerly of Galesburg; nine children, Michael (and Andrea) Baker, Stockton, Patrick Baker, James Baker, Jeffrey Baker and Julie (and Randall) Leonard, all of Watsonville, Timothy (and Jenifer) Baker, Pleasanton, Lisa (and Gilbert) Chacon Jr., Hollister, Brian (and Cathy) Baker, Prunedale, and Steven (and Edna) Baker, San Antonio, Texas; and a brother, James (and Eunice) Baker, Santa Cruz.
He was raised in Galesburg, where he lived until 1961.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a combat engineer in 12 Bravo Company in Europe.
He was a former police officer in Galesburg and Watsonville, owned Salinas Transit System and worked at Santa Cruz Transit and Royal Coach Tours bus companies.
Services were Tuesday in Santa Cruz Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Baker, Joseph E.
January 4, 2004
ABIGNDON - Joseph "Joe" E. Baker, 93, 102 Harshbarger St., died at 9 p.m. Friday (Jan. 2, 2004) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born June 27, 1910, near Shawnee, Okla., the son of George E. and Caldonia E. Prine Baker.
He married Nora E. Sharp on May 9, 1942, in Jonesboro, Ark.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Jerry (and Michelle) Baker, Abingdon, and Charles "Bob" (and Janet) Baker, Cumberland, Wis.; two daughters, JoAnn Baker, Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Marsha (and Ric) Wixforth, Galesburg; one sister, Iva Smith, Galesburg; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two half-brothers, four stepbrothers and three half-sisters.
He worked in the mold department of Briggs Manufacturing for 33 years, retiring in August 1973.
He lived in Cash, Ark., before moving to the Herman and Abingdon area in 1942.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Avon.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Wislander officiating. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Avon and to Avon Nursing Home.

Bandick, Ralph G.
September 2, 2003
ORANGE, Calif. - Ralph G. Bandick, 87, died Aug. 14, 2003.
He was born Dec. 6, 1915, in Orange, Calif.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth (Line) Bandick; a brother, Richard Bandick; a sister-in-law, Mildred Higgins, Alexis; nieces, nephews and three great-nieces.
He served in Italy and Northern Africa during World War II.
He worked at Santa Ana Valley Irrigation Company.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Native Sons of Santa Ana Parlor No. 74 and American Legion Post 132 in Orange.
Fairhaven Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Fairhaven Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 161 S. Orange St., Orange, CA 92866; or St. Joseph Health System, 1895 W. Orangewood Ave., Orange, CA 92868.

Lucille E. Wolfe
April 5, 2005
KNOXVILLE - Lucille E. Wolfe, 96, a resident of Good Samaritan Nursing Home, died there at 4:30 p.m. Saturday (April 2, 2005).
She was born Oct. 26, 1908, in Victoria, the daughter of Lucious and Stella Gibbs Seward.
She married Leslie James Wolfe in 1944, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Jean Wolfe, Geneseo; two grandsons whom she helped care for, James Douglas Wolfe, New Lenox, and Jeffrey Steven Wolfe, Shorewood; a cousin who helped care for her, Charlotte Thagard; and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a son, James Wolfe in 2001.
She was employed as a nurse's aide for 20 years with the State of Illinois at the state research hospital.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Watson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Kay Groff
April 5, 2005
GALESBURG - Mary Kay Groff, 84, 976 E. Fifth St., died at 12:15 a.m. Monday (April 4, 2005) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born July 23, 1920, in Monmouth, the daughter of Harry and Mary Laughlin Winters.
She married Norman Groff on June 30, 1947, in Galesburg.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Michael (and Joyce) Groff, Galesburg; a daughter, Patricia (and David) Bevard, Galesburg; three grandsons; a stepgrandson; and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1938 and from Brown's Business College in 1940.
She was a homemaker and worked as a clerk at Hi-Lo Grocery for 15 years.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society; a member and volunteer of OSF St. Mary's Medical Center Auxiliary; a lifetime member of Brownsville, Texas, Medical Center Auxiliary; and a member of Moose Lodge 880 and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 Auxiliary.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Presley officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Watson Funeral Home, with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Alexis.
Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society or to Costa Catholic School.

Annie E. Oberlander
April 5, 2005
AVON - Annie E. Oberlander, 84, 201 S. Main St., died at 12:15 p.m. Monday (April 4, 2005) in Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born Feb. 1, 1921, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the daughter of Wess C. and Nancy Bigham Shelby.
She married William Howard Grammer. He preceded her in death. She married Charles B. Oberlander. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Charles Oberlander, Abingdon, and Frederick Oberlander and Howard Oberlander, both of Avon; four daughters, Peggy Hogg and Sue Frederickson, both of St. Louis, Susan Maussner, McAlister, Okla., and Anna Frakes, Avon; a brother, William Shelby, Tuscaloosa; a sister, Barb Brewer, Tuscaloosa; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren, two brothers and a sister.
She was raised in Tuscaloosa and moved to the Avon area in 1968.
She worked as a waitress at O.T. Johnsons and Hillyers Cafe in Galesburg, and worked at the Abingdon Nursing Home.
Services will be later. Corman Memorial Home, Roseville, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.

Carl J. Richardson
April 5, 2005
MOLINE - Carl J. Richardson, 79, Moline, died Saturday (April 2, 2005) in Rosewood Care Center.
He was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Alexis, the son of Henry and Clara Stern Richardson.
He married A. Jean Hedgespeth on Dec. 18, 1943, in Moline.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Carol Marhoefer, Moline; a son, Ken (and Phyllis) Richardson, York, Pa.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded him in death by two sisters and five brothers.
He was gear lab operator for International Harvester in Rock Island for 40 years.
He was a member of Moline Gospel Temple for 50 years, and a member of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in Moline. He also was a member of Sylvan Island Dreamers, Quad City Federation of the Blind, UAW Local 1309, Illinois Council of Senior Citizens and the Gem and Mineral Club of Moline.
Funeral was at Esterdahl Mortuary in Moline.

Faith H. Mikita
April 5, 2005
MONMOUTH - Faith H. Mikita, 80, Monmouth, died at 7 a.m. Monday (April 4, 2005) in Community Medical Center.
She was born April 10, 1924, in Keithsburg, the daughter of Mark and Susannah Baer Houfburg.
She married Myron Mikita on July 30, 1947, in Rock Island. He died Dec. 26, 1983.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Legner, Pontiac; a son, Myron "Mike" Mikita, Waterloo, Iowa; a sister, Hope (and Don) Teel, Galesburg; a brother, Carl (and Janet) Houfburg, Twin Falls, Idaho; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.
She was reared and educated in Keithsburg and graduated from Keithsburg High School. She received a teaching certificate from Western Illinois University.
She taught baking classes through Carl Sandburg College at Monmouth High School and taught at her home.
She wrote two cooking books and a home-spun poetry book, and won baking awards at the Illinois State Fair.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Monmouth.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Trinity Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Charles Flinn officiating. Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the church; family will be present one hour before the service. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Macomb. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to her church or to the Culinary Arts Department at the Illinois State Fair.

R. Earmadean Williamson
April 5, 2005
GALESBURG - R. Earmadean Williamson, 94, Galesburg, died at 2:47 p.m. Saturday (April 2, 2005) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born April 30, 1910, in Macomb, the daughter of Lewis and Grace Owens Horton.
She married Donald H. Williamson on May 12, 1944, in Galesburg. He died Jan. 27, 1985.
Surviving are a son, Jack (and Barbara) Silberer, Macomb; two daughters, Lynne (and Gary) Bauercamper, Bettendorf, Iowa, and Nancy (and Kenneth) Munson, Galesburg; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandchild.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oak Lawn Memorial Garden, with the Rev. Scott Rains officiating. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.

Lillian M. Pilcher
April 5, 2005
GALESBURG - Lillian M. Pilcher, 82, 306 Country Elm Estates, died at 6:05 p.m. Friday (April 1, 2005) in Heartland Health Care Center.
She was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Lockport, the daughter of Lacy and Mary Shelton Pettifurd.
She married Wendell Drake. She married Rex Pilcher in Knoxville. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Sam Drake and Larry Drake, both of Galesburg; three stepdaughters, Shirley Daves of Florida, and Marie and Marcie, both of Sparta, Mich.; two sisters, Mary Mason and Virginia (and Gary) Delagosky, both of Galesburg; and four grandchildren.
She graduated from Galesburg High School.
She worked for Northern Engraving Company in Sparta, Wis, Galesburg State Research Hospital in Galesburg, and for Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, as a nurse's aide for three years.
She was a member of Maxey Chapel United Methodist Church, Victoria.
Her body will be donated to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois in Chicago. Private family service and burial will be later. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Ethel MacDonald
April 6, 2005
GALESBURG - Ethel "Tillie" MacDonald, 79, 180 Country Elms Estates, died at 3:55 a.m. Monday (April 4, 2005) in her home, of natural causes.
She was born Jan. 2, 1926, in Galesburg, the daughter of Meryn F. and Isabel Sheldon Pierson.
She married Robert MacDonald on June 14, 1944, in Lynn, Mass. He died June 4, 1960.
Surviving are four daughters, Sharon (and Gerry) Carlton, Laurel (and Jim) Johnson and Heather (and Chuck) Finoglia, all of Galesburg, and Rhoda (and Tom) Wemhoener, Quincy; one sister, Lillian Kapan, Galesburg; one brother, David Larry Pierson, Galesburg; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
She was raised and educated in Knoxville.
She was a homemaker.
Private family graveside service was today in Knoxville Cemetery. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospices of America.
