Findley C. Wong

GALESBURG - Findley C. Wong, 54, 1691 Newcomer Drive, died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 23, 2003) at his residence.
He was born Oct. 6, 1949, in Canton, China, the son of Monshee "Lynd" and Lonnie Lew Wong.
He married Connie Todd on Aug. 30, 1969, in Galesburg.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Marc Wong and Tony (and Allison Skinner) Wong, both of Galesburg; his father, Monshee "Lynd" Wong, Galesburg; two sisters, Melinda (and John) Kilgore and Suzie (and Dale) Hopping, both of Galesburg; one brother, Russell (and Nancy) Wong, Harve, Mont.; one granddaughter and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.
He was reared and educated in Hong Kong, China, where he attended grade schools; and attended and graduated from Galesburg High School.
He became a naturalized United States Citizen in 1972.
He first worked at New China Restaurant in Galesburg, then at the coal mine in Victoria, then owned and operated Canton Cafe in Galesburg, and most recently owned and operated George's Restaurant in Knoxville, for the past 21 years.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, with the Rev. Michel D. Clark officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the East Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg.
Memorials may be made to the Knoxville Fire Department or OSF Hospice.

Wooldridge, M. Gene
September 15, 2003
GALESBURG - M. Gene Wooldridge, 73, 937 N. Prairie St., and Sebring, Fla., died at 6:23 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 13, 2003) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born May 21, 1930, in Abingdon, the son of Everett and Gladys Thurman Wooldridge.
He married Mary Ann Reed on April 7, 1951, in Galesburg. She died April 10, 1987. He married Donna Chivell on June 25, 1988, in Galesburg.
Surviving are his wife; four sons, Wayne (and Janette) Wooldridge, Tom (and Jan) Wooldridge and Ron (and Melissa) Wooldridge, all of Galesburg, and Tim (and Lori) Wooldridge, Louisville, Ky.; three stepsons, Jim Chivell, Orange City, Fla., Mike (and Pam) Chivell, St. Louis, Mo., and Jeff (and Debra) Chivell, Deltona, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Linda (and Fred) Hausknecht, Osteem, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He graduated from Abingdon High School.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He worked as a railroad engineer for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, later the Burlington Northern, for 42 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member and local chairman of United Transportation Union 1423, a member of the Brotherhood of Fireman and Knox County Farm Bureau, and a member and president of the Shuffleboard Club in Sebring, Fla.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Watson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post 285.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the family.

Woolsey, Kristie K.
August 4, 2003
HANNIBAL, Mo. - Kristie K. Woolsey, 56, Hannibal, formerly of Galesburg, died at 3:20 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 3, 2003) at Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Verna L. Wunder
September 24, 2003
KNOXVILLE - Verna L. Wunder, 74, 506 South Line St., died at 12:11 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 23, 2003) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born July 17, 1929, in Lacon, the daughter of Edward and Inez Lane Anderson.
She married Robert Joseph Wunder on Oct. 12, 1951, in Lacon. He died March 9, 1978.
Surviving are three sons, Robert (and Linda) Wunder, Gilson, and Bradley (and Diane) Wunder and Bruce (and Tammie) Wunder, both of Knoxville; a daughter, Beth Ann Wunder, Knoxville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
She was reared and educated in Lacon.
She was a homemaker and worked as cook at the P.E.O. Home and as a school crossing guard.
She was a member of Knoxville United Methodist Church and Harry Philblad American Legion Post 749 Auxiliary.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Knoxville Cemetery, with the Rev. Milton Marquith officiating. No visitation is planned. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to her church or any charity.

Wungluck, Ralph E.
February 12, 2004
DAHINDA - Ralph E. Wungluck, 73, 365 Charter Oak, Oak Run, died at 2 a.m. today (Feb. 12, 2004) at home.

Yarde, Albert C.
September 2, 2003
GALESBURG - Albert C. Yarde, 86, 1116 Pinetree Lane, died Sunday (Aug. 31, 2003) in Rosewood Care Center.
He was born Nov. 29, 1916, in Alexis, the son of Bert and Helen Benson Yarde.
He married Ruth Johnson in March 8, 1941, in Roseville.
Surviving are his wife; a son, John (and Beverly) Yarde, Alexis; a daughter, Karen L. (and Cecil) Hall, Corvallis, Mont.; a sister, Opal Parrish, Daytona Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother and a grandson.
He graduated from Alexis High School in 1935. He farmed all his life near Alexis, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Warren County Farm Bureau and Henderson Grove Grange, and on the committee for Kelly Township for 20 years.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in East Linwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
Memorials may be made to his church or Community Hospices of America.

Yaste, M. Marie
January 11, 2004
SMITHFIELD - M. Marie Yaste, 77, rural Smithfield, died at 1:33 p.m. Friday (Jan. 9, 2004) in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
She was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Frankfort, Ky., the daughter of Sam and Myrtle Harlow Singleton.
She married Virgil B. Yaste on May 17, 1943, in Frankfort.
Surviving are her husband; two sons, Virgil Yaste, Marietta, and Gary Yaste, Smithfield; one daughter, Mary Jane Haley, Oak Park; three sisters, Emma Couch and Mary Smith, both of Frankfort, and Grace Fancil, Georgia; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and four brothers.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Baughman Cemetery, Smithfield. There will be no visitation. Martin-Hollis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Young, Gloria D.
November 3, 2003
MONMOUTH - Gloria D. Young, 70, Roseville, formerly of Monmouth, died at 11:55 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 1, 2003) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born June 16, 1933, in Franklin, the daughter of Ernest D. and Hazel M. Gullette Birdsell.
She married Meredith Wayne Young on Aug. 23, 1949, in Virginia, Ill. He died Jan. 1, 1979.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna (and Victor Jr.) Baity and Sandra (and Bill) Daniel, both of Roseville; two sons, Ernie (and Brenda) Young, Monmouth, and Carl W. (and Sharon) Young Sr., Dahinda; a brother, Irwin (and Barb) Birdsell, Deer Creek, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and nine brothers and sisters.
She was reared and educated in the Chicago area and Beardstown.
She was a homemaker and had worked at Formfit in Monmouth, IAAP in Middletown, Iowa, Admiral in Galesburg and at Western Stoneware in Monmouth before retiring.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Turnbull Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ron Scarlett officiating. Friends may call Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home; family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before the service Wednesday. Burial will be in Monmouth Cemetery.

Mae Young
January 13, 2004
GALESBURG - Mae Young, formerly of 895 W. Brooks St., died at 2:51 a.m. Monday (Jan. 12, 2004) in the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.
She was born Nov. 13, 1918, in Mayfield, Ky., the daughter of Alonzo and Valera Pryor Duffy.
She married William Young on April 27, 1968, in Kansas City, Mo. He died in 1975.
Surviving are a brother, Leslie "L.C." (and Jean) Duffy, Galesburg; a stepdaughter, Linda Hill, Kansas City, Mo.; a niece; three nephews; a stepgrandson; great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
Her family moved to Galesburg in 1923 and she graduated from Galesburg High School in 1937.
She lived in Kansas City until returning to Galesburg in 1976.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Fletcher and McDougald Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jon Sibley officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

MONMOUTH - Michael J. Young, 55, formerly of Monmouth, died at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday (May 5, 2004) in St. Anthony's Central Hospital, Denver, Colo.

Youngdahl, Mary M.
April 27, 2004
GALESBURG - Mary M. Youngdahl, 96, Galesburg, died Sunday (April 25, 2004) in Seminary Manor.
She was born Jan. 27, 1908, in rural Nebraska, the daughter of Hans and Johanna Jorgensen Caspersen.
She married Earl E. Youngdahl on Aug. 12, 1936, in Marquette, Mich. He died Feb. 23, 1964.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol (and Quentin) Brown, Galesburg; a sister, Nora Elgard, Midwest City, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Arlene Caspersen, Grand Island, Neb.; and 15 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
She was educated in Boelus, Neb., attended Dana College in Blair, Neb and graduated summa cum laude from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., in 1930.
She taught school in Sisseton, S.D., and Ericson Elementary School and John Deere Junior High School in Moline and Moline High School, retiring in 1974.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, and volunteered at the former Lutheran Hospital.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Salem Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline.
Memorials may be made to the Mary Youngdahl Scholarship Fund at Salem Lutheran Church.

Zimmerman, Gary B.
October 23, 2003
GALESBURG - Gary Burton Zimmerman, 61, 703 Century Estates, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 21, 2003) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center
He was born Feb. 7, 1942, in Warren County, the son of Carlos B. and Helen Haynes Zimmerman.
He married Marlene R. Philhower on July 11, 1970, in Knoxville
Surviving are his wife; his children, Richard Zimmerman of Kentucky, Crystal (and Lester Jr.) Johnson, St. Augustine, and Kendall (and Dusty) Zimmerman, Galesburg; two brothers, Ronald K. (and Dayna) Zimmerman, Dahinda, and Andy Anderson of Illinois; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
He was reared and educated in Galesburg and graduated from Avon High School.
He worked as a crane operator at Butler Manufacturing for 22 years.
He was a former member of the Gold Wings Touring Association.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, with the Rev. Rick Shriber officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the family.
