Lawana Leahy

GALESBURG - Lawana Leahy, 76, 914 E. Losey St., died at 7:38 a.m. Saturday (April 10, 2004) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born March 26, 1928, in Galesburg, the daughter of William J. and Lillian Roberta Jones Rogers.
She married Richard Leahy on June 10, 1947, in Galesburg.
Surviving are her husband; a son, R. Dennis (and Carol) Leahy, Rock Hills, S.C.; a daughter, Lawana (and Bernard) Cokel, Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Roberta (and Peter) Olson, Galesburg, and Mary Lou Youngren, Clearwater, Fla.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Galesburg, was a past officer in the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a member of golf and bowling leagues.
Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Thursday in Watson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Eshelman officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to any charity.

Lomax, Arnold S.
June 2, 2003
BUSHNELL - Arnold S. "Shan" Lomax, 86, Bushnell, died at 6:40 a.m. Sunday (June 1, 2003) in Elms Nursing Home, Macomb.
He was born Nov. 12, 1916, in Bushnell, the son of Frank and Luvada Arnold Lomax.
He married Maxine L. Tracey on May 11, 1953, in Bushnell. She died Jan. 5, 1992.
Surviving are a son, Stuart S. Lomax, Ft. Benton, Mont.; and a daughter, Tracey A. Lomax, Bushnell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He attended Knox College and received bachelor's and master's degrees from Western Illinois University.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a combat infantryman in the Southwest Pacific for 38 months and received a Bronze Star.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years.
He was a member, deacon, elder, treasurer and trustee of Bushnell Presbyterian Church. He was a former member of the Bushnell Mausoleum Board and was cemetery treasurer and sexton since 1982. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1422 and a 50-year member of T.J. Pickett Masonic Lodge.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jesse Pestle officiating. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home; visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Bushnell Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Bushnell Rescue Squad or Bushnell Public Library.

Loy, Margaret
June 1, 2004
GALESBURG - Margaret Loy, 79, a resident of Marigold Health Care Center, died there at 8:50 p.m. Friday (May 28, 2004).
She was born Oct. 3, 1924, in Shelbyville, Mo., the daughter of Donald and Minnie Leoda Dama Parton.
She married Albert "Jack" Loy on March 17, 1967, in Knoxville. He died April 5, 2004.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Linda Quinn, Galesburg, and Shawna Jean Loy California; a stepson, John Edward Loy; a half brother, George Eiker, Indianapolis; a half sister, Mary Honeyman, Knoxville; a grandson; six stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son and a brother.
She was reared and educated in the Galesburg and Knoxville areas.
She was a member of the Moose Lodge 880 of Galesburg.
She was of Methodist faith.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.
Memorials may be made to the family.

Maher, Albert E.
June 3, 2003
KNOXVILLE - Albert Edwin Maher, 78, 1025 Steakhouse Road, died at 6:25 p.m. Saturday (May 31, 2003) at home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Brimfield, the son of J. Albert and Teresa A. Dell Maher.
Surviving are three cousins, Frederick (and Frances) Carroll and Catherine (and Murray) Miller, both of Brimfield, and Berwin (and Evelyn) Dell, Princeville. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was reared and educated in the Brimfield area and graduated from Knoxville High School.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served from 1944 to 1946, including in the Asiatic-Pacific and Philippines, and was discharged as a seaman first class.
He was a farmer.
He was a life member and past commander of Harry Philblad American Legion Post 749.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Calvary Cemetery, Brimfield, with the Rev. Lawrence Morrissey officiating. No visitation is planned. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 749.

Mansager, Theodore B.
May 30, 2003
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Theodore Barnes Mansager, 95, Kalamazoo, formerly of Galesburg, died Sunday (May 25, 2003) in Kalamazoo.
He was born July 24, 1907, in Ellsworth, Iowa, the son of Odmund and Bertha Ystanes Mansager.
Surviving are a niece and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane, on Aug. 5, 1988; a brother and a sister.
He graduated from Ellsworth High School, from Coe College in 1932 and received a master's degree from the University of Iowa in 1939.
He taught at Galesburg High School and was chairman of the department of Social Studies when he retired.
He spent most of his retirement years in Harlingen, Texas.
Cremation was accorded. No services or visitation are planned. Burial will be in Ellsworth, Iowa. Farley-Estes & Dowdle Richland Chapel, Richland, Mich., is in charge of arrangements.

Ellen Beth Marcoux
April 13, 2004
BROOKINGS, Ore. - Ellen Beth Main Marcoux, 68, Brookings, died March 24, 2004, in Oregon Health and Science University Hospital, Portland, of natural causes.
She was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Altona, the daughter of Herold and Ilene Main.
She married Roger Marcoux on Aug. 8, 1969, in Hollywood, Calif.
Surviving are her husband; two sons, Michael (and Kathy) Marcoux, Grand Junction, Colo., and Mark Marcoux, Sierre Madre, Calif.; four brothers, Keith (and Jean) Main and Gary (and Suzanne) Main, both of Altona, Don (and Betty) Main, Lafayette, and H.K. (and Hazel) Main, Galva; a sister-in-law, Alice of Altona; a grandson; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
She graduated from ROVA High School in 1953.
She moved to Los Angeles in 1955 and worked as a secretary at Alcoa Aluminum Company. She and her husband retired to Brookings in 1992.
She was a member of Brookings Presbyterian Church and the Brookings Garden Club.
Services were April 5 in Brookings Church of the Nazarene. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in United Church of Altona, with the Revs. Roger Olson and Davey Lefler officiating.

Marshall, Carl G.
May 31, 2003
ROSEVILLE - Carl G. Marshall, 92, Roseville, died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday (May 29, 2003) in Care Center of Abingdon.
He was born Feb. 28, 1911, in Higgsville, Va., the son of Henry M. and Allie Jennings Marshall.
He married Florine Byerly on Dec. 13, 1934, in Galesburg.
Surviving are his wife; one sister, Oka Moon, Kewanee; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
He lived in Pulaski County, Va., until his mid-teens when his family moved to the Greenbush/Avon area, where he attended school.
He farmed in the Greenbush township area most of his life and raised Hereford cattle.
He was a member of boards of the Warren County Farm Bureau, Warren County FS and the FHA.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Corman Memorial Home, Roseville. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roseville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Roseville Ambulance Service.

Margaret Masterson
April 16, 2004
LONDON MILLS - Margaret Masterson, 73, London Mills, died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday (April 15, 2004) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born Oct. 17, 1930, in Avon, the daughter of Russell and Neola Gossard Kepple.
She married Thomas Masterson on June 29, 1948, in Abingdon.
Surviving are her husband of London Mills; a brother, Harold Kepple, Galesburg; and two sisters, Mary Lindsey, Abingdon, and Beverly Parker, Mansfield, Mo.
She lived in Avon, Abingdon and in London Mills since 1949.
She worked at Blue Bell, Gale Products and Abingdon Nursing Home.
Cremation was accorded. Services will be later. Corman Memorial Home, London Mills, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the London Mills Fire Department and Ambulance Service.

Melvin, Betty J.
June 2, 2003
MONMOUTH - Betty J. Melvin, 82, Monmouth, died at 9:36 a.m. Friday (May 30, 2003) in Community Medical Center.
She was born May 14, 1921, in Biggsville, the daughter of Clark and Lorene Ervin Kelly.
She married Ward Melvin on Dec. 23, 1949, in Hernando, Miss. He died Dec. 17, 1974.
Surviving are a daughter, Angie K. Melvin, Monmouth; a son, David (and Karen) Melvin, Monmouth; two granddaughters; a great-grandson; a niece and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
She was reared and educated in Biggsville, graduated from Monmouth High School in 1939 and from Monmouth College in 1943.
She taught in rural schools for many years, including Reynolds, Media, Aledo, Seaton, and taught music and Spanish at Yorkwood, retiring in 1980.
She was church organist at United Methodist Church and Little Cedar United Presbyterian Church, both in Little York.
She was a member of DAR, Community Medical Center Auxiliary and Retired Teachers Association.
Cremation was accorded. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, with David Dutton and Phil Cooper officiating. Friends may call Saturday at the funeral home; family will receive friends one hour before the service. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Community Medical Center, United Methodist Church or Little Cedar Presbyterian Church.

Robert D. Metzger
April 13, 2004
GALESBURG - Robert Dean Metzger, 73, 93 Herring Avenue, died at 9:13 a.m. Sunday (April 11, 2004) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital of natural causes.
He was born June 8, 1930, in Winfield, Iowa, the son of Earl and Mabel Johnson Metzger.
He married Ruth Marshall on Nov. 25, 1951, in New London, Iowa. He married Beverly Clayton on Sept. 3, 1980, in Las Vegas, Nev.
Surviving are his wife; a son, David Dale (and Inez) Metzger, Burlington, Iowa; two daughters, Peggy Lynn (and Dennis) Stout, Ankeny, Iowa, and Jean Marie (and Mike) Schnellbacher, Danville, Iowa; two stepsons, Denny (and Angie) Jandrey, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Gary Jandrey, Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Jeanne Bohm, Miami, Fla.; grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
He was reared and educated in Winfield, Iowa.
He worked as an engineer at Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway, as a salesman at Montgomery Ward and at U.S. Borax Company in Burlington, Iowa.
He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge in Galesburg.
Cremation was accorded. Private services will be Friday in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Joe Patterson officiating. No visitation is planned. A celebration of life ceremony will be later. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to his church.

Miller, Jessie Lee
May 31, 2003
VIOLA - Jessie Lee Miller, infant son of Bonnie Melleny and Walter Miller III, Viola, died Thursday (May 29, 2003) at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus in Rock Island.
Surviving are his parents; three step-sisters, Janel Wiegand and Tina Miller, both of Oquawka, and Lindy Miller, Viola; paternal grandmother, Louise Miller, Viola; maternal great-grandparents, Harold and May Robbins, Viola; five aunts, Christine Kitchen, Moline, Isabelle Percy, Galesburg, Teresa Grubs, Aledo, Cathy Crose, Viola and Sue Melleny, Mt. Vernon, Iowa; and one uncle, Steven Melleny, Alexis. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Franklin and Connie Robbins Melleny, and paternal grandfather, Walter Miller Jr.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Alexis Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Dennison Funeral Home, Viola, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the family.
