Mrs. Myrtle E. Fields, 86, a resident of the Knox County Nursing Home Knoxville, formerly of Abingdon IL, died at 9:38 p.m. Monday September 4, 2000 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Funeral services will be at 1 PM on Thursday September 7, 2000 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Robert Friese will officiate. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel. Burial will be in, Abingdon Cemetery. She was born December 16,1913, in Clayton County, Iowa to John and Emma (Fry) Brown. She married Ewald Meyer 1932 He died in 1945. She then married Elmer O. Fields in 1948 in Galena. He died May 27, 1977. Surviving are three sons, Leon Meyer of Westby WI, Allen Meyer of Abingdon, and Robert Meyer of Farmersburg IA; three daughters, Janie McMahon of Farley IA, Diane Fields of Bushnell IL and Regina Horton of Galesburg; one brother, Veryl Brown of Tacoma, WA; 38 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Elmer Fields Jr.; two daughters, Dorothy Christopher and Donna Southwick; three brothers; two sisters and two grandsons. She lived in Abingdon since 1959 and in the nursing home for the past month. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Betty L. Mack, 77, of 1445 Chartres St. LaSalle, IL, died at 2:00 AM, Monday September 4, 2000 at the Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru, IL. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Friday September 8, 2000 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. Rev. Steven Storms will officiate. Friends may call from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Family. She was born on April 11, 1923 in Bushnell IL to Fred and Maude B. (Carpenter) Smith. She first married Herschel Edmon Hulett. She later married William E. Mack in Quincy IL on May 25, 1968. He preceded her in death on October 9, 1993. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bushnell IL. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Hulett-Libby of Mark, IL and Marcia Hulett-Lindsey of Granville, IL; one sister, Eva Campbell of Bushnell, IL; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Mrs. Josephine M. Mathers, 86, of 550 E. Carl Sandburg Drive Galesburg, IL, died at 5:06 PM Monday September 4, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. Funeral will be at 1:30 PM Friday September 8, 2000 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Tom Larsen, Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, North Henderson. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church. She was born on November 10, 1913 in Fayette MO to James E. and Josephine (Gilmore) Searcy. He married John A. Mathers in Boonville MO on October 11, 1936. He survives. She was a registered nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Galesburg for 13 years, retiring in 1972. She also worked at the Red Cross Blood Bank. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg and the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Joanne Harwick of Hayes, KS and Mary Kay Henry of Moline, IL; one sister, Virginia Mounter of Fayette, MO; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Mr. John H. Weinberg, 71, of 437 Oakwood Dr. Galesburg, IL, died at 9:00 PM, Sunday September 3, 2000 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday September 7, 2000 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. James Hazelwood will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Thursday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Galesburg Rescue Mission. He was born on May 29, 1929 in Galesburg to Hjalmar N. and Thelma I. (Wilfong) Weinberg. He married A. Colleen Kittle in Galesburg on November 24, 1948. She survives. He was a brick mason for 53 years retiring in 1994. He was a partner in Weinberg Masonry in Galesburg. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg and was a lifetime member of the Bricklayers Union. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Stan Weinberg of Bloomington, IL, and Steve Weinberg of Phoenix, AZ; three sisters, Dorothy Bern and Jean Johnson of Galesburg, IL and Lois Kidder of Barstow, CA; two brothers, James Weinberg of Galesburg, IL and Richard Weinberg of Davenport, IA; and one grandson, Austin.

Mr. Kermit L. Johnson, 88, of 300 Memorial Drive Abingdon IL, died at 3:20 AM Thursday August 31, 2000 at the Care Center of Abingdon. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday September 2, 2000 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Raymond McLaren, Abingdon Christian Church, will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Christian Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. He was born on August 21, 1912 in Knox County IL to Victor and Beatrice (Bergman) Johnson. He married Ruth C. Johnson in Abingdon on July 30, 1955. She preceded him in death on May 20, 1985. He lived in the Abingdon area all his life. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1932. He farmed with his father near Abingdon and later worked at Blue Bell Manufacturing and the Abingdon Pottery. He retired on October 1, 1974 at the former Gale Products division of Outboard Marine Corporation after 21 years. He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews survive him. His parents, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Oliver G. Turner, 53, of 461 W. Brooks St. Galesburg, IL, died at 7:15 pm, Tuesday August 29, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday September 2, 2000 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Pastor Bobby Moore will officiate. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. He was born on June 27, 1947 in Moro AR to Curnel and Dorothy Mae (Morrison) Turner. He married Jacquelyne L. (Jackie) Wallace in Springfield IL on March 9, 1970. She survives. He was the chief operator at the Galesburg Sanitary District for 30 years, retiring June 1, 2000. He was also the superintendent for the Yates City Sanitary District from 1988 through 1995. He graduated from Lincoln College in Lincoln IL. He was a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. and A.F.S.M.E. He was actively involved with the Boy Scouts and other youth activities. He was a foster parent through Bridgeway. Surviving are his wife; his mother, Dorothy Turner of Galesburg, IL; one daughter, Jocelyn Turner of Urbana IL; one son, Oliver Turner of Galesburg IL; three sisters, Christine Jones of Chicago, IL, Alberta Turner of Dallas, TX, and Pearlie Turner of Galesburg, IL; five brothers, Billy Turner of Blue Island, IL, Dennis Turner of Monmouth, IL, Carl Turner, James Turner, and Jerry Turner all of Galesburg, IL; and two grandchildren. His father, Curnel Turner in February 1994, preceded him in death.

Mr. Roland W. Guenther, 56, of 951 Arnold St. Galesburg, IL, died at 6:55 AM, Tuesday at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday September 1, 2000 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Lee Johnson, Bethel Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Wataga Cemetery, Wataga IL. The Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 will give military honors. Friends may call from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Thursday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Knox County Humane Society. He was born on August 13, 1944 in Galesburg IL to Harvey and Pauline (Lundeen) Guenther. He married Mary K. Olson in Knoxville IL on October 15, 1966. She survives. He was a laborer at Butler Manufacturing for 37 years. He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America - AFL-CIO and the Bethel Baptist Church. He served in the Army Reserves for 10 years. He was a graduate of Brown's Business College in Galesburg. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Brent (Carrie A.) Bernett of Galesburg, IL; three brothers, Dean Guenther of Africa, John Guenther and Harvey Guenther, Jr. both of Indianapolis, IN; nieces and nephews; and one granddaughter, Montana Renee Bernett.

Mrs. Betty J. Downey, 79, of Box 139 Keithsburg, IL, died at 6:45 PM Thursday October 26, 2000 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Saturday October 28, 2000 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM Saturday October 28, 2000 at the Central Congregational Church, Galesburg, with Rev. John D. Carson, Jr. officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Foundation or Central Congregational Church.

She was born on August 22, 1921 in Macomb IL to Elmer and Bernice (Collins) Lawton. She married Russell T. Downey in Plymouth IL on July 9, 1938. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2000.

She was a keypunch operator at Admiral Appliances for 37 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Central Congregational Church, Galesburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Diana Dress and Nancy McCune, both of Galesburg, IL; five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Her husband and one sister preceded her in death.

Mrs. Martha Evans, 86, of 1250 W. Carl Sandburg Dr. Galesburg, IL, died at 7:20 PM, Wednesday at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Saturday October 28, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Cremation will follow the service with the cremated remains buried in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Jacksonville. Friends may call from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Saturday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to East Naples Methodist Church. She was born on December 2, 1913 in Mason City NB to John W. and Daisey (Smith) Patterson. She married Courtney Ford, Ralph Yoder and Wendell Evans, who all preceded her in death. She was a registered nurse for 40 years. She was a 1931 graduate of Belleville (IL) Township High School and a 1935 graduate of the Jewish Hospital Nursing Program in St. Louis MO. She lived in Jacksonville IL for many years and Naples FL for 20 years. She was a member of the East Naples (FL) Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Lynn Conn of Galesburg, IL; one sister, Gertha Firebaugh of Peoria, IL; one grandchild and three great grandchildren. Four brothers, Warren, Harold, Farrell and Ellis Patterson, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Alice A. Epperson, 92, of 275 E. Carl Sandburg Drive Galesburg, IL, died at 4:23 AM Tuesday October 24, 2000 at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Thursday October 26, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. William Schlobohm officiating. Burial will be in Rio Cemetery, Rio. Visitation will be from 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to Rio Presbyterian Church. She was born on July 19, 1908 in Hillsdale IL to Harry and Clara (Bisbing) Fender. She married Walter W. Epperson in Pocahontas AR on April 28, 1948. He preceded her in death on November 29, 1989. She worked in the Rio School Cafeteria for 13 years. She was a member of the Rio Presbyterian Church, a past member of the Rio Women's Club being "Mother of the Year" in 1951. She was a 30-year member of the Rio Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star having been Worthy Matron and other chairs. She is survived by two sons, Harold Birdsley of Owensboro, KY and Lawrence Birdsley of Silvis, IL; two daughters, Mildred Hillard of Peoria, IL and Marilouise Simpson of Milan, IL; one brother, Robert Fender of Bettendorf, IA; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. Three brothers, two sisters, one grandson and one daughter, Arlene Birdsley, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Janice E. Marsh, 59, of 302 N. .Main St. Rio, IL, died at 4:05 PM Monday October 23, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. She was a beautician at the East Moline Mental Health Center for 10 years until its closure. She then owned and operated Jan's Hair Heaven in Rio since 1980. She was a 1959 graduate of Rock Island High School and a 1960 Graduate of the Sterling School of Cosmetology. She was a former board member of the Niabi Zoo. She is survived by her husband, Wil Marsh of Rio, IL; mother, Corinne Greer of Rock Island, IL; two daughters, Elaine Predmore Behr of Reynolds, IL and Cindy Predmore Circello of Rock Island, IL; one sister, Virginia McKee of Rock Island, IL and eleven grandchildren. Two sons, Charlie Predmore and Richard Predmore preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Roger Bird of Cheyenne, WY; one daughter, Cheryl Peterson of Galesburg, IL; one brother, Ralph Schulz of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. One brother preceded her in death.

Mrs. Nellie M. Warren, 93, of 275 E. Carl Sandburg Dr. Galesburg, IL, died at 6:44 AM Saturday October 21, 2000 at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday October 24, 2000 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Rev. Daniel Siems, First Baptist Church will officiate. Friends may call from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday October 21, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. She was born on July 17,1907 in Mt. Vernon IL to Earl and Nora (Venetta) Rector. She married Robert Warren in Mt. Vernon on January 18, 1925. He preceded her in death on November 2, 1962. She worked at Kresge's Department Store for 23 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Galesburg and a former member of the Order of Easter Star. She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Barton and Delores Sprinkle, both of Galesburg, IL; one sister, Janet Mays of Mt. Vernon, IL; twelve grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren. Her husband; one son, Everett Warren; two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Mr. Clifford E. Schisler, 89, of 207 Western Abingdon, IL, died at 4:20 PM Friday October 13, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday October 16, 2000 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with Rev. Raymond McLaren officiating. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon. He was born on November 6, 1910 in Knox County IL to John and Minnie (Dawdy) Schisler. He married Kathleen Stokes on November 23, 1932. He married Mabel Gott on December 8, 1972 in Springfield IL. She preceded him in death on December 31, 1996. A graduate of Abingdon High School, he farmed in the area for 40 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 519. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He is survived by three daughters, Donna Mason of Galesburg, IL, Linda Batson and Elaine Westover, both of Abingdon, IL; four step-daughters, Sharen Curtis and Karen Lowery, both of Cameron, IL, Beverly Earp of Monmouth, IL and Pauline Miller of Decatur, IL; two step-sons, Roger Gott of Sullivan, IL and Wayne Gott of Idaho Falls, ID; one son, Neal Schisler of Knoxville, IL; one sister, Irene Morris of Berwick, IL; one brother, Harold Schisler of AZ; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren . One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Mrs. Dorothy F. Little, 85, of 280 E. Losey Street Galesburg, IL, died at 6:59 AM Thursday October 19, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday October 23, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Leigh Nygard officiating. Burial will be in Haynes Cemetery, DeLong IL. She was born on January 14, 1915 in Galesburg to William E. and Roxy (Deathridge) Guy. She married Edgar Joseph Little in Aledo IL on February 10, 1934. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1975. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hope Wesleyan Church. A daughter, Kaye Randell of Galesburg, IL; a brother, Fred Nelson of CA; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild survive her. A stepdaughter, Frances Boehme, and a brother preceded her in death.

Mrs. Rochelle 'Rocky' Austin, 61, of 541 E. Knox Street Galesburg, IL, died at 11:57 PM Monday October 23, 2000 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. There will be no public services. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association. She was born on May 26, 1939 in Galesburg to Marion and Edna (Griffith) Clark. She married Donald Dean Martin in Galesburg on October 1, 1960. He survives. Also surviving is one son, Timothy Austin of Alpha, IL; two daughters, Donna Smith of Galesburg, IL and Christine Spillars of South Carolina; one brother, William Clark of Galesburg, IL; two sisters, Donna Gibb of Peoria, IL and Pamela West of Galesburg, IL; one grandson, Travis Austin of Alpha, IL.

Mr. James J. Risenhoover, 73, 1221 Park View Road, died at 12:35 a.m. Saturday October 21, 2000 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday October 23, 2000 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg, with Eleanor Landon officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday October 22, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Prayers will be said at 6:00 p.m. He was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Gatewood, Mo. to James B. and Georgia (Grimmett) Risenhoover. He married Vivian Brotherton on Aug. 12, 1942, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She died March 13, 1995. He was a mechanic at Galesburg Lincoln Mercury for 42 years. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, serving on the USS John D. Henly. He is survived by one brother, Hulen "Ike" Risenhoover, Houlton, Wis.; one sister, Martha Jones, Indianapolis, Ind.; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews; and a friend who helped care for him, Jennie Anderson, Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Ward L. Medhurst, 71, of 412 Central Cameron, IL, died at 8:07 am, Tuesday October 17, 2000 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday October 20, 2000 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Dennis Knotts officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. He was born on August 25, 1929 in Cameron IL to Ralph "Kinnie" and Margaret (Shaw) Medhurst. He married Dorothy Larson in Berwick IL on June 6, 1948. She survives. He worked as a mechanic and director of maintenance at Burlington Northern Transport for 35 years and at Bosch Trucking in Peoria for 2 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Cameron Christian Church where he served as a deacon and trustee. He was a former board member for the Mid-West Maintenance Council. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Medhurst of Cameron, IL; three daughters, Judy Kerr of Knoxville, IL, Jane Medhurst-Williams of Alexandria, VA and Julie Miller of Springfield, IL; one son, Steven Medhurst of Galesburg, IL; one sister, Martha King of Galesburg, IL; one brother, Walter Medhurst of Alexis, IL; and eight grandchildren. One brother, Robert, preceded him in death.

Mrs. Evelyn L. Bowen, 80, of 300 N. Jefferson St., Apt. 508 Abingdon, IL, died at 1:55 AM, Tuesday October 17, 2000 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Thursday October 19, 2000 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Mrs. Eleanor Landon officiating. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. She was born on August 2, 1920 in Galesburg to David and Mable (Crouch) Carroll. She married John Teel. He preceded her in death. She then married William Bowen in Galesburg on November 28, 1964. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1980. She was a nurse's aide at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1981. She is survived by one step-daughter, Joyce Bledsoe of MO; four step-sons, Bill Bowen of Rio Rancho, NM, Bob Bowen of Leesburg, GA, Dick Bowen of Avon, IL, and Jerry Bowen of Galesburg, IL; three daughters, Doris Connour of Abingdon, IL, Scherris Middaugh of Green Castle, PA, and Patricia Rohrer of Galesburg, IL; one son, Raymond Teel of Galesburg; 22 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren. One brother and three sisters preceded her in death.
