Mrs. Violet M. Nelson, 71, of 1617 Indiana Dr. Galesburg, IL, died at 3:30 PM Saturday November 11, 2000 at 1617 Indiana Dr., Galesburg, IL. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday November 15, 2000 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg, with Rev. Daniel Siems officiating. Friends may call from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or OSF St. Mary's Hospice. She was born on August 16, 1929 in Alexis IL to Edward L. "Jack" and Maude E. (Lundgren) Scott. She married Paul W. Nelson in Rock Island IL on March 2, 1948. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1998. She worked at Maytag Appliance and Galesburg State Research Hospital. She owned Vi's Bottle Shop that sold antiques and bottles. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Galesburg. She is survived by one son, Bruce Nelson of Galesburg, IL; one daughter, Barbara Pennington of Gilson, IL; one brother, Phil Scott of Galesburg, IL; one sister, Dorothy Serio of Anaheim, CA; six grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Mrs. Ruth J. Stouffer, 97, of 540 N. Prairie St. Galesburg, IL, died at 5:55 PM Tuesday November 7, 2000 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Saturday November 11, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Norman Myer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Friends may call from 9:30 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to First United Presbyterian Church. She was born on December 19, 1902 in Dallas County IA to J. Franklin and Viloa (Morey) Jones. She married Lawrence W. Stouffer in Des Moines IA on June 20, 1939. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1980. She was a schoolteacher in the rural schools of Iowa for 18 years. She then was the Principal of the East Galesburg (IL) Elementary School. She was a graduate of the Minbern and Grand Junction (IA) High School and the Iowa State Teachers College. She also attended the University of Washington in Seattle, Western Illinois University in Macomb and Bradley University in Peoria IL. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg. She is survived by one daughter, Helen Dillon of Denver, CO; one son, Keith Stouffer of Littleton CO; and two granddaughters, Samantha and Stacey. One brother and one sister preceded her in death.

Mrs. Gertrude R. Goehrig, 98, of 275 E. Carl Sandburg Dr. Galesburg, IL, died at 11:15 AM Saturday November 4, 2000 at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Memorial services will be 3:00 PM Saturday November 11, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Tom Larsen officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Mr. Robert N. Fensterer, 78, of 429 Fifer St. Galesburg, IL, died at 9:35 PM Saturday November 4, 2000 at University of Iowa Medical Center, Iowa City, IA. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday November 8, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Thomas Heather officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Friends may call from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday November 7, 2000 at the Chapel. He was born on June 27, 1922 in Lebanon OH to Robert John and Helen Fensterer. He married Edith I. Van Dusen in Galesburg IL on February 11, 1950. She preceded him in death on March 1, 1979. He was a driver for Brown Specialty Company in Galesburg. He then worked for Outboard Marine Corporation for 28 years, retiring in 1983. After his retirement he worked at the former Farmers and Mechanics Bank. He served in the Army during World War II. He is survived by one son, Robert D. "Denis" Fensterer of Galesburg, IL; a special friend, Polly Snyder of Galesburg, IL; one nephew Robert Chester of East Peoria IL; three nieces, Micheline Smock of Abingdon IL, Janet Phillips of Peoria IL and Bonnie Hook of Gainesville TX; and one grandchildren. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Mrs. Mardell M. LeGrand, 90, of Bakersfield, CA, died Monday October 16, 2000 in Bakersfield, CA. She is survived by two sons, Donald LeGrand of Mesa, AZ and Kenneth LeGrand of Bakersfield, CA, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Esther R. Graves, 95, of 800 N. Market St. Knoxville, IL, died at 12:10 PM Friday November 3, 2000 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL. Graveside services will be 11:30 AM Monday November 6, 2000 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg, with Pastor Jerry Webb officiating. She was born October 2, 1905 in Batesville AR. She married Gerald T. Graves in Burlington IA on November 1, 1939. He preceded her in death on October 7, 1994. She was a waitress at the former Sportsman Club in Galesburg. She is survived by three nieces, Jean Adams Hall of East Galesburg IL, Marjorie Lundeen and JoAnn Lundeen, both of Galesburg IL; three great nieces; two great nephews; three great-great nephews and two great-great nieces.

Mrs. Lenore I. Kimbro, 88, of 2245 N. Seminary St. Galesburg, IL, died at 7:25 PM Friday November 3, 2000 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home, Galesburg, IL. Graveside memorial services will be held in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cheyenne at a later date. She was born on October 4, 1912 in Cheyenne WY to Hugh L. and Nora (Welch) Baggs. She married Charles Brown in Cheyenne WY in 1931, then Harold Kimbro in 1968. She lived in Cheyenne for most of her life with five years in Desert Hot Springs CA. She has lived in Galesburg since 1996. She is survived by two daughters, Sally Hunt of Galesburg, IL and Gale Moberley of Cheyenne, WY; one brother, Frank Baggs of Mountain Home, AR; one sister, Ruth Bradburn of CA; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. One son, Charles Brown, preceded her in death.

Mr. Lawrence M. Fetterer, 79, of 170 S. West St. Galesburg, IL, died at 7:10 PM Friday November 3, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday November 7, 2000 at Abingdon Cemetery with Mrs. Eleanor Landon officiating. Friends may call from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family. He was born on September 8, 1921 in Germany to Leo and Anna (Mittler) Fetterer. He married Marilyn "Phiney" Burns. After her death, he married Ruth Lincolnfelter in Missouri on November 10, 1987. He worked at a number of shoe stores throughout the United States for 32 years, including Shank's in Abingdon IL and Barr's in Monmouth IL. He retired in 1986. He served in the Navy on the USS Texas during World War II. He was a member of the Abingdon American Legion Post 381, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2257, the Moose Lodge and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Fetterer of Galesburg, IL; one stepdaughter, Joyce Bledsoe of MO; four stepsons, Bill Bowen of NM, Bob Bowen of GA, Jerry Bowen of Galesburg, IL and Richard Bowen of Avon, IL; one daughter, Christine Smith of Galesburg, IL; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.

Mr. Frank Wakefield, 76, of 30 Knox Hwy 37 Galesburg, IL, died at 5:27 am Thursday November 2, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. Memorial services will be 10:00 A Saturday November 11, 2000 at Central Congregational Church, Galesburg, with Rev. John D. Carson, Jr. officiating. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. He was born on December 23, 1923 in Alcester SD to Rev. Wilfred and Mary Wakefield. He married Gloria M. Grench in Brookfield IL on August 29, 1947. She survives. He was a union carpenter of the Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont IL for 20 years, retiring in 1986. He was a graduate of Riverside High School in Brookfield. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. He served in the Army Air Corp in the Pacific theatre during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Wakefield of Galesburg, IL; two daughters, Wynne Clark and Kim Wakefield Bullis, both of Galesburg, IL; two sons, David Wakefield of Earlville, IL and Scott Wakefield of Plano, IL; one sister, Marian Hawkinson of Naperville, IL; seven grandchildren and one great grandson. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Walter W. Lines, 89, of 275 W. Carl Sandburg Drive Galesburg, IL, died at 6:20 AM Thursday November 2, 2000 at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL. He was born on August 3, 1911 in rural Kansas to William and Frances (Larretto) Lines. He married Clara Laxton in Mill Springs MO on August 11, 1931. She preceded him in death on May 24, 1998. He worked at Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the United Church of Woodhull (IL) and the Woodhull Masonic Lodge. He is survived by five grandchildren, Jay Bainbridge of Albuquerque NM, Jill Gasaway of Norman OK, John Anderson of Iowa City IA, Amy Rutledge of Galesburg IL and Matthew Bainbridge of Brimfield IL; and six great-grandchildren. His wife; one son, John Thomas Lines; two daughters, Martha Anderson and Virginia Bainbridge; several brothers and sisters; and one granddaughter, Laurie Anderson, preceded him in death.

Mr. Donald B. Knutson, 72, of El Paso, TX formerly of Galesburg, died at 10:30 PM Wednesday November 1, 2000 in El Paso. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday November 7, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Friends may call from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital. He was born on August 19, 1928 in Galesburg. He married Joan F. Lynch in Galesburg on May 5, 1951. She survives. He owned and operated Don's Flower Shop in Galesburg for 23 years, retiring in 1996. He also worked at Admiral Manufacturing Co. for 19 years. He was a past member of the First Lutheran Church in Galesburg and active in the Galesburg Civic Art Center. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife, Joan Knutson of El Paso, TX; one son, Joseph Knutson of Chicago, IL; one daughter, Crystal Pipes of El Paso, TX; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. One daughter, Lou Ann Knutson, died in 1981. One son, Bruce Knutson, died in 1989.

Mr. Elbert O. Hicks, 85, of 1280 Harrison Street Galesburg, IL, died at 6:10 pm Monday October 30, 2000 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Private graveside memorial services will be at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, on Friday November 3, 2000. He was born on March 15, 1915 in Fillmore IL to Warner C. and Florence (Osborne) Hick. He married Ila G. Pease in Rock Island IL on May 26, 1936. She survives. He was an auto mechanic for 40 years, retiring in 1977. He is survived by his wife, Ila Hicks of Galesburg, IL; one daughter, Sheila Diane Anderson of San Marcos, CA; one son, T. Dale Hicks of Branson, MO; one sister, Verna Harris of Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. One brother, Howard N. Hicks, preceded him in death.

Mrs. Marylinn V. Conrad, 62, of 1063 Willard Street Galesburg, IL, died at 8:09 PM Tuesday October 31, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. She is survived by her husband, Clifford Conrad of Galesburg, IL; three daughters, Vanessa Barnes and Starrlin Klein, both of Galesburg IL and Melissa Bickerstaff of Knoxville, IL; one brother, Lewis Montgomery of Wheaton, IL and six granddaughters.

Mr. William M. Kellett, 76, of 271 N. Pearl St. Galesburg, IL, died at 5:40 PM Tuesday October 31, 2000 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Thursday November 2, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Tom Siebert officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. He married Dolores Helen Gerhardt in South Ozone Park NY on June 23, 1946. She survives. He worked as a rental property building manager in New York. He then worked at Admiral Appliances, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Church in Galesburg, the Knights of Columbus, SPEC at St. Patrick's Church. He served in the South Pacific as a US Marine during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Kellett of Galesburg, IL, one daughter, Janet Kellett Larson of Monmouth, IL and two step- grandchildren. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Mrs. Claire Ellen Spencer, 77, died on Monday October 16, 2000 in Federal Way, Washington. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Friday November 3, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. J. W. Barnds, Grace Episcopal Church, officiating. Private graveside services will be in the Knoxville Cemetery. Memorial may be made to the Claire Sherwood Spencer Scholarship, Wabash Valley College Foundation, and Mt. Carmel IL. 62863. She was born on November 13, 1922, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the fourth of six children of Lex and Pearl Sherwood. During her childhood, her family moved to Sullivan, IN., and then to Galesburg, IL where Claire attended high school. An enthusiastic student, Claire studied French. English Literature and Music at Knox College, Galesburg, Ill. She graduated magna cum laude in 3 ½ years, and was married to Theodore Hazen Kimble, also a Knox student.
A son, Peter Sherwood Kimble, was born in 1947 Christopher John Kimble was born 2 ½ years later. In 1954, her husband, by then managing editor of Household magazine, died of Hodgkin's Disease at age 32.
Claire's father, a coal mine superintendent, helped build a house for her near his home in Knoxville, IL where the two boys attended grade school. At a PTA meeting she met school superintendent James S. Spencer. They married on Christmas Eve, 1958. A daughter, Sarah Joan Spencer, was born two years later.
As her children grew, Claire taught French, English and Language Arts at several schools in central or eastern Illinois. She took a personal interest in the lives of her students, many of whom benefited from her individual attention. By the time the boys left home for College the Spencers had settled in eastern Illinois, where her husband, who had earned a doctorate in Education, became chancellor of Illinois Eastern Community College District 529. The Spencers were instrumental in helping several minority students from Chicago enroll at the three colleges in the district. One student lived with them in their Olney IL home.
Claire was an active supporter and leader of community efforts to promote mental health, rehabilitation and higher education. She tutored disabled students, volunteered in a psychiatric institution, helped minority people find housing, and served on a variety of committees, commissions and boards, For several years she was a board member for the Southeastern Mental Health Center, and she served as its chairperson for a term. She founded two chapters of P.E.O, an organization that gives college scholarships to young women who would otherwise have no hope of a higher education. Claire helped found the Women's League for Community Progress in Olney IL and served as president for two years. At Wabash Valley College, in Mt. Carmel IL the Spencers endowed the Claire Sherwood Spencer Scholarship. The student lounge at Wabash Valley College is named in her honor.
Following retirement, the Spencers eventually settled in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Claire was active in the local PEO chapter, volunteered for the American Cancer Society, and sang in the choir of Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Before her illness incapacitated her, she enjoyed frequent visits with her children and grandchildren, who survive her, Peter and Brenda Kimble, and their son Austin; Chris and Pat Kimble, and their son Ted; Sarah Spoor, and daughters Laura, Emily and Constance, She is also survived by her husband, Jim Spencer, and by a brother, Ben Sherwood.

Mrs. Blanche M. Carlson, 92, of 723 Pine St. Galesburg, IL, died at 4:00 PM Monday October 30, 2000 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL. Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday November 1, 2000 at Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, with Rev. W. J. Barnds officiating. Memorials may be made to Knox County Nursing Home Memorial Garden or to the Family. She was born on April 27, 1908 in Yates City IL. She married William A. Carlson in Galesburg on October 11, 1930. He preceded her in death on September 16, 1985. She worked as a registered nurse at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Galesburg. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Libby of Galesburg, IL, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. One Son, Richard Carlson, several brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

Miss Helen Josephine Woolsey, 96, of 800 N. Market Street Knoxville, IL, died at 8:37 AM Tuesday October 31, 2000 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday November 8, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Mrs. Marilyn Anell officiating. Burial will be in Victoria Cemetery, Victoria. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Wednesday November 8, 2000 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church. She was born on June 22, 1904 in LaGrange IL to Henry D. and Josephine (Hedstrom) Woolsey. She graduated from Brown's Business College in Galesburg. She worked in the offices of the Knox County Clerk and Knox County Treasurer for 22 years, retiring in 1964. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Iota Business Sorority. She is survived by one niece, Nancy Anderson of Silverton, OR; one cousin, Dorothy King of Knoxville, IL; and a sister-in-law, Ella Rowe Woolsey of Mt. Angel, OR. One brother, Mac Woolsey, preceded her in death in 1986.

Mr. Arthur R. Nelson, 81, of 2370 US Highway 150 N Rio, IL, died at 1:05 pm Monday October 30, 2000 at Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy, IL. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Thursday November 2, 2000 at Henderson Grove Cemetery with Rev. Jan Bengtson officiating. Friends may call from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday November 1, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 will provide military honors. Memorials may be made to Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy IL.
He was born on October 1, 1919 in Rio IL to Henry and Lillian (Matson) Nelson. He farmed in the Rio area his entire life. He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church and served in the Army in World War II.
He is survived by one stepson, James Lipes of Galesburg, IL; two sisters, Leona Mohlenhoff of Diamond City, AR and Mildred Patrick of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers, Nels Nelson of Knoxville, IL and Ernest Nelson of Belvidere, IL; several nieces and nephews; three step-grandchildren and several step great grandchildren. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Earl Richard Henry, 79, of 1145 Frank St. Galesburg, IL, died at 7:50 AM Saturday October 28, 2000 at the Galesburg Terrace, Galesburg, IL. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday November 1, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg with Rev. Ted Gillum officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. He was born on April 16, 1921 in St. Louis MO to Richard and Daisy (Todd) Henry. He married Helen Mae Janes in Galesburg on August 28, 1942. She preceded him in death on September 20, 1992.
He worked at Rowe Manufacturing Co. in Galesburg for 40 years. He also worked in the maintenance departments for Galesburg School District #205 and the First Baptist Church. He was treasurer of the union at Rowe. He was a member of the 15 Gallon Club-Red Cross Blood Donor and a member of the First Church of the Open Bible.
He is survived by two sons, Richard Henry of Phoenix, AZ and Ronald Henry of Hartland, WI; four grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew, Thomas and Karli; and one great granddaughter, Deshay.

Mr. Robert E. Raymond, 61, of Rural Route 3, Abingdon, died at 1:40 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2000, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday November 1, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon will officiate. He was born on August 24,1939 in Galva IL to Earl J. and Marion (Tillman) Raymond. He married Debbie Courson on Dec. 31, 1977, in Peoria. She survives.
He was a foreman at Maytag Co. in Galesburg, where he had worked for 42 years. He was a Vietnam War veteran. He attended Western Illinois University.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Randy and Steven, both of Galesburg; two daughters, Angela Mahnesmith and Julie Mackey, both of Galesburg; and three grandchildren. One son, Jeffrey Raymond, preceded him in death.

Mr. Charles J. Simons, 79, of 710 Century Estates Galesburg, IL, died at 5:37 AM Friday December 29, 2000 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born on October 11, 1921 in Elvaston IL to Alva and Grace (Dillman) Simons. He married Donna Oliver Lanier in Geneseo IL on November 22, 1968. She survives.
He was the Manager for Bowman Shoe Company for many years. He later worked in the Shoe Department at J.C. Penney. He last worked as a Security Guard at Bergner's Department Store. He graduated form Elvaston High School in Elvaston IL. He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Simons of Galesburg, IL; two stepsons, Charles Lanier of Galesburg, IL and Robert Lanier of Princeton, IL; two nephews and four grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.

Mrs. Martha E. Weaver, 89, of 1319 N. Academy Street Galesburg, IL, died at 9:11 PM Wednesday December 27, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. Her funeral will be 11:30 AM Saturday December 30, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Shalom Renner officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. Saturday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
She was born on November 24, 1911 in Galesburg to Cornelius Aaron and Lousia (Clay) Smith. She married L. Alvin Weaver in Galesburg on June 11, 1933. He preceded her in death on March 30, 1990.
She was the head of the cafeteria services at Churchill Jr. High School and Galesburg Senior High School for 15 years, retiring in 1973. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Church's Circle and the Home Culture Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Corey of Winfield, IL; a foster daughter, Eva Mae Dunsworth of Macomb IL; a son, Ward Weaver of Kewaskum, WI; 5 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a foster son, Douglas Graham Dunsworth in 1981, three brothers and a sister.

Mrs. F. Elizabeth Cox, 74, of 1443 Monroe Street Galesburg, IL, died at 1:45 AM Wednesday December 27, 2000 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Her funeral will be 3:30 PM Friday December 29, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Pastor Jerry Webb officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 2:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. Friday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
She was born on October 28, 1926 in Glasgow KY to Otis and Verna (Carey) Polson. She married Edward Cox on November 18, 1945 in Glasgow KY. He survives.
She was a homemaker. She graduated from Glasgow High School Glasgow, Ky. She was a member of First Church of God.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Cox of Galesburg, IL; a son, Daryl Cox of Galesburg, IL; a daughter, Gwen Owen of Maquon, IL; a brother, J.C. Polson of Glasgow, KY; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. One brother, Willard Polson, preceded her in death.
