Mr. Kenneth E. Morss, 80, of 311 E. Simmons St. Galesburg IL, died at 10:50 PM Tuesday February 6, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg IL. His funeral will be 1:30 PM Friday February 9, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Pastor Jerry Webb officiating. Burial will be in Haynes Cemetery, DeLong. Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Friday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Square Activity Fund.
He was born on September 27, 1920 in Knox County IL to Oscar and Elsie (Gibbs) Morss. He married Eleanor Metcalf in Galesburg on December 17, 1951. She preceded him in death on November 14, 1997.
He worked as an insurance salesman for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 25 years, retiring in 1983. He currently was working for R.F.M.S., Inc. (Residential Facilities Management Specialists). He was a graduate of Galesburg High School. He was a member of First Church of God, Galesburg. He was a board member of the Francis House.
He is survived by a step-daughter, Sharon Hull of Galesburg IL; a step-son, Ronald Lewis of Waterloo IA; a nephew, Steven Morss; two nieces, Pam Peterson and Sharon Weems; and two grandchildren, Jacquie Pyle of Galesburg IL and Jennifer Pyle of Riverview FL.

Mrs. Florence R. Kirchgessner, 87, of 2345 N. Seminary St., Galesburg IL, died at 8:12 AM Friday February 9, 2001 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home, Galesburg, IL. Her funeral will be 10:00 AM Monday February 12, 2001 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Seibert officiating. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday February 11, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel where the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM. Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Organ Restoration Fund or the Seminary Manor Activity Department.
She was born on January 24, 1914 in Abingdon IL to John W. and Clara (Lance) Foster. She married Bernard Kirchgessner in Metamora IL on May 10, 1941. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1974.
She worked at the Ben Franklin Store in Abingdon and at the Galesburg St. Mary's Hospital's Kitchen. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters and a volunteer for the Galesburg Cottage Hospital Service Guild.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Ferris of Tucson AZ two sons, Daniel Kirchgessner and Gerald Kirchgessner, both of Galesburg IL; ten grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Mr. Daniel L. Bowman, 53, of 835 Wisconsin Ave. Galesburg IL, died at 5:25 PM Monday February 5, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Saturday February 10, 2001 at Alexis Cemetery, Alexis IL, with Rev. Thomas Heather officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. Saturday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Family.
He was born on December 28, 1947 in Galesburg to Cleo E, and Margaret (Alley) Bowman. He married Crystal Carson in Galesburg in 1966.
He worked in the warehouse for Roger Brothers for over 30 years. He lived in Galesburg most his life.
He is survived by his father, Cleo Bowman of Viola IL; two sons, William Bowman and Jeffrey Wilson, both of Galesburg; a sister, Cheri Taylor of Viola IL; a special friend, Gail Cameron of Abingdon IL and eight grandchildren. His mother and two sisters, Michelle Hammond and Theresa Breeding, preceded him in death.

Mrs. Bernice V. Rose, 91, of 7425 Xavier St. Westminster CO, died at 7:15 pm Monday February 5, 2001 at her home. Her funeral will be 10:00 AM Saturday February 10, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday February 9, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Exempla Lutheran Hospice of Wheat Ridge CO.
She was born on June 5, 1909 in Galesburg to Anton and Anna (Lundeen) Walberg. She married Milton J. Rose in Galesburg on January 3, 1936. He preceded her in death on November 1, 1986.
She worked as a registered nurse for many years. She was a 1928 graduate of Galesburg High School and a 1932 graduate of the Cottage Hospital Nursing School. She was a member of the Alumni Association of the Cottage Hospital Nursing School. She was a volunteer and member of the Guilds at St. Mary's and Cottage Hospital, both in Galesburg. She belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg IL and the Presbyterian Church in Fountain Hill AZ. She was a member of the Elkettes in Galesburg and the Woman's Club in Ft. Hills CO.
She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Furlong of Golden CO; a son, Bruce Rose of Louisville CO; a sister, Eula Gummerson of Galesburg IL; a brother, Gordon Walberg of Galesburg IL; several nieces and nephews; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. John B. Sieg, 90, of 949 S. Whitesboro St. Galesburg IL, died at 1:35 PM Sunday February 4, 2001 at his home. His funeral will be 10:00 AM Thursday February 8, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. John W. Sieg officiating. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens, Peoria. Visitation will be from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday February 7, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice.
He was born on July 25, 1910 in Chamois MO to Samuel and Lucinda (Mantle) Sieg. He married Georgia Deemie in Salina KS on October 8, 1932. She survives. He was the owner of Sieg's Grocery in Dahinda IL for 35 years, retiring in 1975.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Sieg of Galesburg IL; two daughters, Pam Allen of Knoxville IL and Lou Wiedeman of Chillicothe IL; a son, Ben Sieg of Galesburg IL; two sisters, Ada Clark of Pacific MO and Mary Cramer of Nicki MO; a brother, Robert Sieg of Branson MO; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Donald L. Curry, 64, of 559 Clark St. Galesburg IL, died at 10:50 AM Saturday February 3, 2001 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria IL. Graveside services will be 11:30 AM Thursday February 8, 2001 at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, with Rev. Ed DeWitt officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday February 7, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born on September 6, 1936 in Galesburg to Flavios and Nellie (Oatman) Curry. He married Tway Shaw in Galesburg on December 21, 1968. She survives.
He was a 1955 graduate of Galesburg High School. He was a machine operator at Butler Manufacturing Company for 12 years, and then he worked 14 years as a salesman for Corbin Furniture in Galesburg retiring in 1988. He served in the US Navy. He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 Galesburg, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Tway Curry of Galesburg IL; mother, Nellie Louthan of Ringling OK; four daughters, Linda Claeys, Lori Duran and Teresa Gordon, all of Galesburg IL and Donna Curry of Houston TX; two sons, Donald Curry of Abingdon IL and Kenneth Curry of Knoxville IL; three sisters, Joyce Brunson of Ringling OK, Debbie Dryer of Freeport IL and Elaine Rogers of AZ; two brothers, Doug Curry of Cameron IL and Earl Curry of Greenville SC; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister.

Mrs. Margaret Joyce Hendricks, 70, of 1414 Bridge Avenue Galesburg IL, died at 11:50 AM Sunday February 4, 2001 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg IL. Her funeral will be 10:00 AM Wednesday February 7, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Friese officiating. Burial will be in Wataga Cemetery, Wataga. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday February 6, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
She was born on June 26, 2930 in Woodhull IL to Harry and Ruth Peterson Anderson. She married Clarence Junior "Dusty" Hendricks in Woodhull on December 18, 1954. He preceded her in death on August 1, 1986.
She was a 1948 graduate of Oneida High School and worked as 10 years a librarian and secretary at the Galesburg High School Learning Center
She is survived by two sons, David Hendricks and Thomas Hendricks, both of Galesburg IL; a daughter, Joan Melissant of Galesburg IL; a brother, Kenneth Anderson of Galesburg IL; a sister, Mary Hannam of Galesburg IL; seven grandchildren and a great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Anderson, and a granddaughter, Hannah Marie Hendricks in 1996

Mr. Stuart J. Carter, 72, of 1531 Bateman St. Galesburg, IL, died at 11:45 AM Thursday February 1, 2001 at his home. His funeral will be 11:00 AM Tuesday February 6, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. John Grimes officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Knox County Humane Society or American Cancer Society.
He was born on February 2, 1928 in Galesburg to Harry S. and Edith L. (Vandeveer) Carlson. He married Trudy Block in 1946. He then married Nancy Tadie Carter in 1974.
He was a supervisor at the former Outboard Marine Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He then worked as a self-employed carpenter for several years. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1946.
He is survived by his mother, Edith Carter of Bloomington IL; two daughters, Cara Baker of Denver CO and Janet Elliott of Windsor CA; two sons, Robert D. Carter of DeSoto IL and Robert L. Carter of Bloomington IL; a brother, Rod Carter of Galesburg IL; two grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Mrs. Rose Marie Carlson, 89, of 1160 Bateman Street Galesburg IL, died at 8:56 PM Thursday February 1, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg IL. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday February 6, 2001 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.
She was born of July 6, 1911 in Galesburg to Enoch and Anna (Swan) Ekstrom. She married Maurice Carlson in Galesburg on June 24, 1933.
She was a nurse's aide at the former Galesburg State Research Hospital for 14 years, retiring in 1970. She belonged to the First Lutheran Church, Galesburg, being a member of the Church's Miriam Guild.
She is survived by a son, Richard Carlson of Knoxville IL; a daughter, Marian Walker of Gilson IL; two sisters, Doris Ekstrom of Flora IL and Violet Page of Galesburg IL; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Evelyn F. Purkis, 90, of 2345 N. Seminary St. Galesburg IL, died at 3:45 PM Wednesday January 31, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Her funeral will be 12:00 PM Monday February 5, 2001 at St. Patricia's Catholic Church, Hickory Hills IL, Mary Queen of Heaven with Rev. Gerald Malchay officiating. Burial will be in Mary Queen of Heaven, Hillside IL.
She was born on September 21, 1910 in Cicero IL to Emil and Mary (Wertz) Kleinke. She married Orlen Purkis in Chicago IL on July 5, 1930. He preceded her in death on July 28, 1989.
She was a receptionist for 20 years at the Borden Dairy, Chicago. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Galesburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Hays of Galesburg IL; a son, Ronald Purkis of Upland, CA; a sister, Lucille Necker of Blue River, WI; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Forrest G. 'Doc' Royse, Jr., 70, of 1101 Beaumont Centre Lane, Apt. 211 Lexington KY, died at 12:47 AM Tuesday January 30, 2001 at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington KY. His funeral will be 11:00 AM Saturday February 3, 2001 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday February 2, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with a prayer service at 8:00 PM with Rev. Mike VanAcker officiating. Memorials may be made to Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, 1838 Greene Tree Rd., Baltimore, MD 21208.
He was born on October 14, 1930 in Galesburg to Forrest G. and Clara E. (Parsons) Royse, Sr. He married Geraldine R. Griffith in Galesburg on January 31, 1953. She survives.
He was a purchasing agent for the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation, Galesburg, for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He had lived his entire life in Galesburg until moving to Lexington in June 2000. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1949 and from Carl Sandburg College, Galesburg. He was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and usher. He was a member of Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Lexington, KY.
Doc never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with friends and sharing fish stories. Doc's special joy was being a grandfather. He was happily married to Gerrie for 48 years.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Royse of Lexington KY; a daughter, Kathleen Bailey of Lexington KY; a son, Michael Royse of Florissant MO; a sister, Patricia Fricke of Denver CO; four grandchildren, Stephanie Kindle, Rachel E. Bailey, Michael S. Bailey and Cynthia Rose Royse; and one great grandson, Rick Kindle, Jr.

Mrs. Edith P. Staggs, 95, of 592 N. Cherry Street Galesburg IL, died at 7:52 PM Tuesday January 30, 2001 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Her funeral will be 9:30 AM Saturday February 3, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Shalom Renner and Mrs. Marilyn Anell officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday February 2, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
She was born on January 24, 1906 in Flemingsburg KY to George W. and Emma S. (Pearce) Cooper. She married Howard G. Staggs, Sr. in Flemingsburg on April 18, 1923. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1965.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Galesburg, the Kindness Circle and the United Methodist Women. She was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of Galesburg Woman's Club. She had lived in Galesburg since the 1940's.
She is survived by a son, Howard Staggs Jr. of Galesburg IL, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Janie E. Miller, 96, of 742 Monroe St. Galesburg, IL, died at 3:25 AM Sunday December 31, 2000 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Her funeral will be 1:30 PM Thursday January 4, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Nolan Purtell officiating. Burial will be in Swan Lake Cemetery, Peoria. Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Thursday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to charity of the donor's choice.
She was born on May 18, 1904 in Sheridan WY to Elmer O. and Clara E. (Galey) Colwell. She married John R. Miller in Maryville MO on April 11, 1925. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1974.
She was a beautician and homemaker. She was a member of the Allen Park Baptist Church, Galesburg, and the Order of Easter Star.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Darlene Jacobs, seven brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Lila F. Armstrong, 81, of 2721 40th St. Little York, IL, died at 1:15 AM Sunday December 31, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. Her funeral will be 10:00 AM Thursday January 4, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Pastor Jerry Webb officiating. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery, Monmouth. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday January 3, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Warren County Public Library.
She was born on July 19, 1919 in Galesburg to Irvin and Pansy (Dawson) Cherrington. She married Kenneth H. Armstrong in Missouri on September 26, 1937. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1995.
A 1936 graduate of Galesburg High School, she worked at the former Admiral Corporation for many years. She also farmed with her husband and son. She was a member of the Monmouth V.F.W and American Legion Auxiliaries.
She is survived by a son, Robert Armstrong of Little York, IL; three brothers, Bruce Cherrington and Irvin Cherrington, both of Galesburg, IL, and Elvin Cherrington of AZ, three sisters, Isal Franseen of Birmingham AL, Evelyn Riggs and Verna Sopher, both of Galesburg, IL; two grandchildren, David and Patricia; and one great grandchild, Kenna. She was preceded in death by one daughter and one brother.

Mr. Fred W. Nyman, 80, of 1329 Moshier Avenue Galesburg, IL, died at 8:10 am Friday December 29, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. His funeral will be 1:30 PM Wednesday January 3, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Robert Friese officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday January 2, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Knox County Humane Society.
He was born on August 28, 1920 in Galesburg IL to Arthur John and Mary Olivia (Nelson) Nyman. He married Dorothy Bayless in Galesburg on January 20, 1946. She preceded him in death on March 19, 1972. He then married Helen Conlon in Galesburg on July 31, 1982. She survives.
A 1939 graduate of Galesburg High School, he attended the Elgin Watch School. He owned Nyman Jewelers for 50 years, retiring in 1991. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church and had memberships in the Kiwanis Club, the Elks Lodge #894, American Legion Post #285, the Chamber of Commerce and Alpha Lodge #155 A.F. & A.M. He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Nyman of Galesburg, IL; two sons, Peter W. Nyman of Rock Island, IL and Rodney A. Nyman of Galesburg, IL; two daughters, Linnea Gassman of Madison, WI and Susan Medina of Galesburg, IL; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Burch of St. Louis, MO and Lori Mensch of Loveland, CO and 14 grandchildren. Two brothers, Willard N. Nyman and Arthur J. Nyman, preceded him in death.

Mr. William G. 'Bill' Edwards, 67, of 877 E. Grove Street Galesburg, IL, died at 10:44 PM Thursday December 28, 2000 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. His funeral will be 10:00 AM Wednesday January 3, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Thomas Seibert officiating. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery, Galva. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
He was born on December 25, 1933 in Washington IN to William Perry and Willis (Tomblesom) Edwards. He married Mary A. Pierce in Galva IL on August 3, 1979. She survives.
He was a sales representative for H.T. Hackney Grocery Wholesalers in Florida for 15 years and presently worked for Acosta Grocery Wholesalers in Chicago, IL. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Kewanee IL.
He is survived by his wife, Mary A. Edwards of Galesburg, IL; a stepson, John Armstrong of Galesburg, IL; three stepdaughters, Kathy Bobrick, Julie Hier, and Linda Norman, all of Galva, IL and six step grandchildren.
