Mr. Robert Napier, 83, of 121 W. Simmons St. Galesburg, IL, died at 11:32 AM Wednesday January 17, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL. Private family services were held Wednesday January 17, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Robert Malone officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Family.
He was born on April 12, 1917 in Coalville KS to Pat and Ore (Jennings) Napier. He married Wanda Davis Oglesby in Gilson IL on May 21, 1997. She survives.
He owned RN Food Service in Chicago Illinois, retiring in 1982. He attended Calvary Assembly of God Church. He lived in Galesburg most his life. He served in the Army Signal Corp during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Napier of Galesburg IL; a daughter, Misty Napier of Chicago IL; a stepdaughter, Marcy Oglesby of Maquon IL and a brother, Clarence Napier of Galesburg IL. He was preceded in death by a step granddaughter.

Mr. Weldon Allen, 90, of 3416 Lincoln Park Drive Galesburg, IL, died at 7:32 PM Monday January 15, 2001 at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL. His funeral will be 2:00 PM Thursday January 18, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Daniel Siems officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Disease Foundation.
He was born on October 12, 1910 in Savannah IL to John D. and Amy (Benson) Allen. He married Ethel Marie Seale in Thorntown IN on December 16, 1938. She survives.
His interest in photography and motion pictures led him into the theatre business. He was the owner of the former Gala and Grove Theatres in Galesburg and part owner of the former Fort Drive-In Theatre in Macomb. He retired in 1969. He had lived in Galesburg most of his life. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1928 and from Knox College in 1932 with a degree in Chemistry. He was a 75-year member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Allen of Galesburg IL; a son, John Allen of Normal IL; three daughters, Donna Early of Naperville IL, Nancy Hammes of Loda IL, and Pamela Silkwood of Bloomington IL; a sister, Vivienne Fisher of Phoenix AZ; thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Helen L. Shelton, 60, of 487 W. Tompkins St. Galesburg, IL, died at 10:30 AM Wednesday January 10, 2001 at Community Medical Center, Monmouth, IL. Her funeral will be 1:30 PM January 15, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Alfred Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to Galesburg Public Library.
She was born on October31, 1940 in Galesburg to Wayne and Hazel (Gullick) Blackwell. She married Donald Shelton in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1995.
A 1958 graduate of Galesburg High School, she was a records clerk at the Henry Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg for 15 years.
She is survived by her mother, Hazel Kimbrough of Galesburg IL; a daughter, Grace Shelton of Galesburg IL; a son, Harrison Shelton of Galesburg IL; seven brothers, Wayne Blackwell of Chicago IL, Cleatis Goodlow, Leroy Kimbrough, and William Goodlow, all of Portland OR, Eugene Goodlow, Charles Kimbrough, James Kimbrough, all of Galesburg IL and; three sisters, Mary Goodlow, Deborah Kimbrough, and Sheila Taylor, all of Galesburg, IL, and one granddaughter, Khamari Tellis.

Mrs. Florence W. Charnock, 98, of Louisville, KY, died at 10:00 pm Wednesday July 10, 2001 at Franciscan Nursing Home, Louisville, KY. Her funeral will be 2:00 PM Saturday January 13, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Sholom Renner officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
She was born on January 20, 1902 in Macomb IL to George and Gualetta (Shimp) Wiley. She married Richard W. Charnock in 1935. He preceded her in death on June 14, 1998.
She was a school teacher for 50 years. First in Lacon, IL for 14 years and then for 36 years at Cooke School, Galesburg as a second grade teacher and assistant principal. She retired in 1970. She graduated from Sparland High School and Western Illinois University with bachelors and master's degrees. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Galesburg. She was a member of Knox County Retired Teacher's Association.
She is survived by a son, Harold Charnock of Louisville, KY; two sisters, Marjorie Meller of Chula Vista CA and Hildred Wilson of La Jolla CA; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Mr. Leo M. McCreight, 83, of 1250 W. Carl Sandburg Dr. Galesburg, IL, died at 11:45 AM Tuesday January 9, 2001 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Saturday January 13, 2001 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Visitation will be from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the March of Dimes.
He was born on April 5, 1917 in Lebanon IN to Frank and Bessie (Heath) McCreight. He married Martha Robinson in Peoria IL on March 4, 1941 and then Louise Gummerson in Galesburg on September 11, 1982.
He was a 1936 graduate of Galesburg High School. He worked at Admiral/Maytag Manufacturing for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and had memberships in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #518 and American Legion Post #285. He was one of the founders of New Horizons. He served in the European Theatre during World War II.
He is survived by two sons, Dennis McCreight of Spring Valley, CA and Michael McCreight of Munster, IN; a daughter, Peggy Seifert of Houston, TX; a sister, Maryetta Antonnini of Pekin, IL; a brother, Homer McCreight of Creve Coeur, IL: ten grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. A brother and a son, Alan McCreight, preceded him in death.

Mrs. Mollye G. Sinn, 89, of Dallas, TX, died at 11:30 AM Tuesday January 9, 1901 at Golden Acres Nursing Home, Dallas, TX. Graveside memorial services will be 12:00 PM Monday January 15, 2001 at Brookside Cemetery, Galesburg.
She was born on April 29, 1911 in Omaha NE to Benjamin and Rose Green. She married Milton Sinn in Topeka KS on September 6, 1936. He preceded her in death on February 26, 1983.
She owned and operated the Bondi's Ready To Wear Ladies Specialty Shop in Kewanee IL for over 40 years. She was a member of the Ladies Reading Club, the Kewanee Woman’s Club, and the Civic Nurse Board-serving as chairman for 2 years. She was a member of the Midland Country Club, the League of Women Voters, a member of the American Cancer Board, the Community Chest, and the YMCA. She served on the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary and the Red Cross Board. She was active with the Girls Scouts-serving as a leader and board member.
She is survived by a son, Douglas Sinn; two daughters, Jacqueline Bailleu and Rochelle Brennan; seven grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Ms. Carla K. Castle, 59, of 1235 W. Carl Sandburg Drive Galesburg, IL, died at 4:30 PM Tuesday January 9, 2001 at her home. Private family services will be held at a later date.
She was born on October 21, 1941 in Ottumwa IA to Jack and Patricia (Helfrike) Castle. She is survived by two sons, Ricky Adkisson and Steven Adkisson, both of Danville, IL; three daughters, Sheila Ball of Berlin, MD, Jamie Grady of Des Moines IA, and Tina MacFarland of Mobile, AL; two brothers, Gary Castle and J.B. Castle; her companion, LeeRoy Hendricks of Galesburg, IL; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mr. Virgil Peterson, 86, of 126 S. Taylor St. Wataga, IL, died at 10:35 AM Friday January 12, 2001 at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL. His funeral will be 10:00 AM Monday January 15, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Nolan Purtell officiating. Burial will be in Wataga Cemetery, Wataga. Visitation will be from 2:30 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday January 14, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Galesburg Rescue Mission.
He was born on December 30, 1914 in Wataga IL to Charles and Nellie (Cogswell) Peterson. He married Mary Lou Yeldell in Laurel MA on February 3, 1944. She survives.
He worked at the Long-Bell Lumbar Yard in Oklahoma as the Assistant Manager for 12 years. He then worked at the former Gottenborg Plymouth as a salesman for 8 years. He later worked for School District #205 in the Maintenance department for 10 years, retiring in 1968. He lived in Oklahoma for 12 years. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #2257. He served in the Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the 390th field Artillery of the 94th Division.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Peterson of Wataga, IL, a son, Jim Peterson of Wataga IL and two grandsons. A daughter, Susan Elaine Peterson, and three sisters preceded him in death.

Mrs. Jeanette I. Proctor, 87, of 1145 Frank St. Galesburg, IL, died at 10:45 PM Tuesday January 9, 2001 at Galesburg Terrace, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Monday January 15, 2001 at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, with Rev. Lugene Finley officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Monday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church
She was born on August 7, 1913 in Louisiana MO to Leroy and Minnie (Berry) Hendricks. She married Ernest E. Proctor in Galesburg on November 22, 1951 He preceded her in death on February 23, 1991.
She was an assembler at the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg for several years before retiring. She had lived in Galesburg most of her life. She was a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Galesburg.
She is survived by a step-daughter, Ernestine Hardiman of Princeton, IN, two nephews, a niece and a great-niece and six step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a step daughter, three brothers and one sister.

Mr. Gould K. Specht, 94, of Morrison, IL, formerly of Galesburg, died at 1:30 PM Thursday December 28, 2000 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL. His funeral will be 10:00 AM Tuesday January 2, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Dan Swinson and Rev. Julie Bunt officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Morrison United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born on October 15, 1906 in Bible Grove IL to Louis and Effie (Gould) Specht. He married Ruth Hall in Carlyle IL on November 6, 1929. She preceded her in death on May 23, 1988. He then married Christine Bielma Renkes in Morrison IL on June 3, 1989. She survives.
He worked for the former C. B & Q. Railroad since 1928, first as a roundhouse laborer in Centralia IL then as a conductor. He retired in 1972. He was a graduate of the Centralia High School and the Centralia Business College. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Morrison and the United Transportation Union. He was also a lifetime member of the Alpha Lodge #155 A.F & A.M., the Moline Consistory and the Shriners.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Specht of Morrison, IL; a son, Kenneth Specht of Morrison, IL; two daughters, Nancy Christensen of Two Harbors, MN and Nova Klingebiel of Galesburg, IL; a step-son, Arlyn Renkes of Fredericksburg, VA; a step-daughter, Judy Renkes of Naperville, IL; ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchildren, six step grandchildren and ten step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ruth Ann, a granddaughter, a grandson and two sisters.

Mrs. Ruth E. Welsh, 88, of 205 Madison St. Galesburg, IL, died at 10:37 PM Wednesday December 27, 2000 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Her funeral will be 1:30 PM Tuesday January 2, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Jerald Hill officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Community Hospices of America.
She was born on September 12, 1912 in St. Augustine IL to James F. and Myra (Honts) Cooper. She married James D. Welsh in Monmouth IL on December 3, 1931. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1997.
She is survived by four daughters, Mary Hession of Thornton CO, Beverly Terpening of Englewood CO, Patricia Morgan and Doris Patterson, both of Galesburg IL; three sisters, Alta Fox and Ethel DeWitt, both of Galesburg IL and Edith Sedwick of Odesta CA; eight grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Welsh, four brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Forest G. Davis, 84, of 265 Cedar Avenue Galesburg, IL, died at 9:55 AM Tuesday at his home. His funeral will be 11:30 AM Saturday January 13, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday January 12, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Childrens Hospital.
He was born on January 6, 1917 in St. Augustine IL to Guy and Ruth (Moore) Davis. He married Genevieve E. McNeil in Rock Island IL on June 13, 1937. She preceded him in death on April 17, 1975. He then married Lena M. Saylor McNeil in Galesburg on September 4, 1976. She preceded him in death on August 1, 2000.
He was a conductor for the former CB&Q Railroad for 38 years. He retired in 1978. He was a member of Alpha Masonic Lodge #155 AF&AM, Galesburg, the Mohammed Temple, Peoria, El Bon Shrine, Scottish Rite-Moline Consistory, and the International Shrine Clown Association. He was a member of AARP and the Elk's Lodge. He was a graduate of Galesburg High School. He attended First Baptist Church, Galesburg. He had lived in Galesburg most of his life
He is survived by two sons, Donald Davis of Amherst, NY and William Davis of Amherst, NY; a daughter, Shirley Simpson of Buffalo, NY; a stepdaughter, Christine McNeil of Avon, IL; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Helen A. O'Bleness, 80, of 1250 W. Carl Sandburg Dr. Galesburg, IL, formerly of Keokuk IA, died at 8:10 AM Sunday January 7, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Funeral services will be 9:30 AM Wednesday January 10, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Pastor Robert Eshleman, Harmony Baptist Church, officiating. Friends may greet the family immediately following the service. Burial will be 2:00 PM Wednesday January 10, 2001 in Combs Cemetery, Luray MO. Memorials may be made to Harmony Baptist Church in Galesburg or the First Baptist Church in Keokuk.
She was born on October 8, 1920 in Granger MO to Claude B. and Carrie M. (Kirner) Overhulser. She married Edgar Sheets in March 1940. He preceded her in death in 1959. She then married Walter O'Bleness in November 1963. He preceded her in death in 1972.
She lived in Keokuk, IA for many years prior to moving to Galesburg in 1994. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Keokuk and attended the Harmony Baptist Church in Galesburg. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Rosie Davis of Cameron, IL and Mrs. John (Wanda) Ryner of Monmouth, IL; four sisters, Mrs. Madonna Perry of Kahoka, MO, Mrs. Fayla Thomas of Hollister, MO Mrs. Herb (Evelyn) Hibbard of Shell Knob, MO, and Mrs. Ray (Dorothy) Schroeder of Corona, CA; one brother, Eston "Jack" Overhulser of LaHarpe, IL; eight grandchildren;14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son, Claude Edgar Sheets; a brother, Wayne Overhulser; a son-in-law, Donald Davis and a granddaughter, Julie Katherine Ryner.

Mrs. Mary Surkamer, 93, of 2345 N. Seminary St. Galesburg, IL, died at 6:53 AM Saturday January 6, 2001 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday January 9, 2001 at Vermont Cemetery, Vermont IL, with Rev. Shalom Renner officiating. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two nephews, C.C. (Eileen) Leighty of Flint Hills, VA and Richard Surkamer of Lake Bluff, IL; a niece, Mrs. Dallas (Thelma) Bossort of Cornville, AZ; a second cousin, Mrs. Bill (Judy) Geer of Galesburg, IL and a Niece-In-Law, Evelyn Griffith of Bushnell, IL.
She was born on December 25, 1907 in Adair IL to Bert and Nellie (Young) Standard. She married Ivan M. Surkamer in Glen Ellyn IL on August 8, 1936. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1968.
She was a 1st grade school teacher for 40 years in Glen Ellyn, IL and Michigan City, IN, retiring in 1973. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, in Galesburg where she was a member of the Kindness Circle. She also was a member of National Education Association, Knox County Retired Teachers Association and State of Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She graduated from Industry High School, Industry, IL. She received a Bachelors degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb IL and a Masters degree from Valparasio, IN. She moved to Galesburg in 1973 when she retired.
