Mrs. Jane A. Sage, 88, of 280 E. Losey St. Galesburg, IL, died at 7:06 AM Wednesday June 6, 2001 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Friday June 8, 2001 at East Linwood Cemetery with Rev. Tom Larsen officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
She was born on June 11, 1912 in Galesburg to Charles and Amy (Dahleen) Billings. She married George H. Sage in Galesburg on September 11, 1937. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1970.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Galesburg and several of its Women's circles including the Service of Love Circle. She is a graduate of Galesburg High School.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Brouillette of Dallas, TX and Patricia Smith of Delavan, IL; two sisters, Helen Asher and Ruth Billings, both of Galesburg, IL; two brothers, Fred Billings of Galesburg, IL and Robert Billings of LaCresenta, CA; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A brother and a sister preceded her in death.

Mr. Frank B. Carson, 93, of 3357 Sunset Lane Galesburg, IL, died at 6:32 AM Tuesday June 5, 2001 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home, Galesburg, IL. His funeral will be 10:00 AM Friday June 8, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Norman Myer officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Friday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
He was born on August 4, 1907 in North English IA to W. C. and Jessie (Herring) Carson. He married Margaret Patterson in Keokuk IA on July 4, 1936. She preceded him in death on October 6, 1986. He was the owner and general manager of State Loan Company in Galesburg for 39 years, retiring in 1973. He was also a partner in Galesburg Cigar and Specialty from 1962 to 1972. He was a 1928 graduate of the University of Iowa, a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Elks Lodge.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews including James Carson of Aurora, IL and a friend, Bill Evans of Galesburg, IL.

Mr. Glenn 'Bing' West, 75, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Monmouth IL, died at 6:45 AM Friday June 1, 2001at Nathan Adelson Hospice, Las Vegas, NV. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Thursday June 7, 2001 at East Linwood Cemetery with Rev. Robert Friese officiating. Visitation will be from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday June 6, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to Parkinson's Disease Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
He was born on June 4, 1925 in Monmouth IL to Roy E. and Grace (Winifred) West. He married Alice Scott
He was a member of the Monmouth Masonic Lodge. He served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Alice West of Las Vegas, NV.

Mrs. Anne Marshall, 76, of 1661 N. Academy Street Galesburg, IL, died at 6:30 am Sunday June 3, 2001 at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, IL. Private family services will be Wednesday June 6, 2001at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Norman Myer officiating. Entombment will be in Monmouth Cemetery Mausoleum, Monmouth IL. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday June 5, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
She was born on December 9, 1924 in Galesburg to Dr. Benjamin and Anna Belle (Stevenson) McClanahan. She married Frank R. Marshall in Galesburg on September 6, 1947. She preceded him in death on October 8, 1972. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Chapter W of PEO and Pi Beta Phi sorority.
She is survived by four sons, Alec J. Marshall of Victoria, IL, James V. Marshall of East Moline, IL, John S. Marshall of Elmhurst, IL and Steven B. Marshall of Batavia, IL; a sister, Mary Holmstrom of Chicago, IL and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Carl A. Witherell, 77, of 1439 Florence Ave. Galesburg, IL, died at 8:50 PM Friday at his home. Graveside memorial services will be 1:30 PM Friday June 8, 2001 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Joseph Cassady officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday June 6, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association.
He was born on September 21, 1923 in Kilbourne IL to Alfred E. and Anna M. (Mibbs) Witherell. He married Edna I. Austin in Kahoka MO on November 8, 1942. She preceded him in death on October 4, 1999.
He was a switchman for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 44 years, retiring in 1983. He served with the Army Engineers during World War II.
He is survived by a daughter, Sheila Wiley of Galesburg, IL; three sons, Barry Witherell of Ft. Worth, TX, Gregg Witherell of Galesburg, IL and Carl Witherell, Jr. of Pueblo, CO; a special friend and caregiver, JoAnne Perry of North Henderson, IL; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Three sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. L. Kenneth Pennington, 84, of 1192 E. Main Street Galesburg, IL, died at 11:45 PM Thursday May 31, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Monday June 4, 2001 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Lonnie Sheldon officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Monday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to Faith Church of the Nazarene or American Cancer Society.
He was born on June 30, 1916 in LaFayette IL to Henry and Grace (Wagher) Pennington. He married Iva G. Miller in Galesburg on March 3, 1973. She preceded him in death on November 20, 1991. He then married Thelma Shaw Watters in Galesburg on June 27, 1998. She survives.
He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Faith Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Pennington of Galesburg, IL; two daughters, Karen Boulton-Banks of Bartonville, IL and Diana Prichard of Bartonville, IL; a sister, Eva Archer of Galesburg, IL and two grandchildren. A daughter, Donna Pennington and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Conley Ferguson, 81, of 724 Olive Street Galesburg, IL, died at 11:52 AM Thursday May 31, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Monday June 4, 2001 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Rev. Thomas Heather officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 or Cottage Hospital.
He was born on May 28, 1920 in Forkton KY to Millard and Lillie (Walker) Ferguson. He married Dorothy W. Bramlett in Pontiac IL on June 22, 1946. She survives.
He worked as a machinist at the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation, Galesburg for 26 years. He then worked in maintenance for the Knox County Housing Authority for 7 years. He retired in 1982. He was a 55-year member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 and the Galesburg Press Club. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in New Guinea in the South Pacific. He had lived in Galesburg since 1947. He attended Cropsey High School, Cropsey, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ferguson of Galesburg, IL; two sons, R. Steven Ferguson of Galesburg, IL and Roger Lee Ferguson of Las Vegas, NV; three daughters, Marcia Kay Cox of Virginia, IL, Deborah Gail Dennis of Galesburg, IL and Christie Alane Cirone of Peoria, IL; a brother, Clarence Ferguson of Pontiac, IL; six sisters, Wilma Dehn of Chatsworth, IL, Patricia Hornickle of Chatsworth, IL, Loughran of Pontiac, IL, Geraldine Reyniers of Pontiac, IL, Ann Rubbins of Paxton, IL and Mariruth Therien of Lexington, IL; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. George W. Foreman, 77, of 258 Hawkinson Avenue Galesburg, IL, died at 5:30 PM Wednesday May 30, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Saturday June 2, 2001 at East Linwood Cemetery with Rev. John D. Carson, Jr. officiating. Memorials may be made to Central Congregational Church.
He was born on August 1, 1923 in Crook CO to David and Ruth (Sullivan) Foreman. He married Emma Jane "Susie" Cushman in Galesburg on January 29, 1948. She survives.
He graduated from Fullerton High School, Fullerton, Neb. and University of Illinois, 1950. He worked as a registered professional engineer, 6 years for Illinois Power Company. Then worked for Intra State Telephone Company (Centel/Sprint), retiring 1979. Then worked for Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company, Mattoon until 1986. He was a naval aviator during World War II serving on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific and was recalled during the Korean Conflict as an instructor. He was in the Naval Reserve until 1966. He was a member of Central Congregational Church, the Alpha Masonic Lodge #155, the Moline Consistory, and the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He was past president of Galesburg Chamber of Commerce and a past president of Galesburg Lions Club. He was a member of American Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
He is survived by his wife, Emma Foreman of Galesburg, IL; two sons, Brian Foreman of Eagan, MN and Roger Foreman of Austin, TX; a brother, David Foreman of Ft. Dodge, KS; two sisters, Maxine Krotochvil of Springfield, OR and Vivian Mchargue of Loveland, CO and five grandchildren. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Mrs. Rae K. Wodis, 89, of 2345 N. Seminary St. Galesburg, IL, died at 3:55 PM Wednesday May 30, 2001 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 4:00 PM Sunday June 3, 2001 at Sumter Jewish Cemetery in Sumter SC with Rabbi Mark Kline officiating. Friends may call from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Saturday June 2, 2001 at the Sumter SC home of Roger and Deane Ackerman. Memorials may be made to C.A.R.T. Fund for Alzheimer's Research c/o Rotary Club, PO Box1666, Sumter, SC or Temple Sholom.
She was born on June 10, 1911 in Poland to Isaac and Dora (Levsky) Katlan. She married Harvey Wodis in Chicago IL on August 2, 1931. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1982.
She was a homemaker who had lived in Galesburg since 1947. She and her husband were founding members of Temple Shalom, Galesburg. She was very active in The National Council of Jewish Women and served as a volunteer for OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg for many years. She immigrated to America at the age of nine with her family and settled in Chicago.
She is survived by two daughters, Deane Ackerman of Sumter, SC and Lynn Sherman of Rockwall, TX, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Velma R. Shipp, 68, of 1191 Lane Avenue Galesburg, IL, died at 3:32 PM Tuesday May 29, 2001 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL. Her funeral will be 1:30 PM Friday June 1, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Robert Banks officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Friday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made To The Family.
She was born on February 22, 1933in Hodgenville KY to Sylvester and Ona (Johnson) Ewing. She married Robert Mavis in Galesburg in 1950. She then married James O. Shipp in Galesburg on May 14, 1964. Both preceded her in death. She sold advertising for the Galesburg Shopper and real estate for Dahl Realty.
She is survived by a son, Robert Mavis of Portland, OR; two daughters, Brenda Lee of Alexis, IL and Lisa Shipp of Galesburg, IL; a brother, Carl Ewing of Monmouth, IL; a sister, Linda West of Galesburg, IL; 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren. A sister and a grandson preceded her in death.

Mrs. Opal B. Kieser, 87, of 275 E. Carl Sandburg Drive Galesburg, IL, died at 12:50 AM Thursday May 31, 2001 at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday June 6, 2001 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Buffalo Grove IL.
She was born on December 15, 1913 in Hillview IL to Charles and Oona (Settles) Graham. She married Edward Kieser in Waukegan IL on June 10, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1972. She was a nurse' aide t St. Martha's Nursing Home in Knoxville, retiring in 1972.
She is survived by a son, Michael Kieser of Galesburg, IL, a daughter, Virginia Kieser of Prescott, AZ, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A brother and four sisters preceded her in death.

Mr. Samuel 'Dutch' Fretueg, 89, of 2245 N. Seminary Street Galesburg, IL, died at 7:00 AM Wednesday May 30, 2001 at Hawthorne Inn, Galesburg, IL. His funeral will be 12:00 PM Saturday June 2, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Mrs. Marilyn Anell officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday June 1, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Community Hospice of America.
He was born on December 3, 1911 in Brown County IL to Delmur and Sadie (Armel) Freteug. He married Louise I. Nelling in Keokuk IA on September 15, 1935. She preceded him in death on April 20, 1997.
He was a carpenter for over 40 years with the Felix Bengtson Construction Co, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Galesburg and the Vesper Masonic Lodge #584.
He is survived by two daughters, Jane Gellert of Winfield, IL and Carol Willhite of Pittsburgh, PA; a brother, Wayne Fretueg of Muscatine, IA; a sister, Lee Jakale of Galesburg, IL; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Millie M. Oakes, 90, of 121 W. Willard Street Wataga, IL, died at 8:50 AM Tuesday May 29, 2001 at St. Jude's Hospital, Fullerton, CA. Her funeral will be 10:00 AM Tuesday June 5, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Jill Vivroux officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday June 4, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Galesburg Rescue Mission and Women's Shelter.
She was born on February 11, 1911 in Galesburg IL to Daniel and Marinda (Savage) Shane. She married Thomas D. Oakes in Toulon IL on December 2, 1929. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1991. She was a salesperson at Jack's Supply and Black's Hardware.
She is survived by two sons, Ernest D. Oakes of Swanton, VT and Thomas D. Oakes, Jr. of Pontiac, IL; two daughters, Patricia Sparks of LaHabra, CA and Nancy Campbell of Wataga, IL; a sister, Edith LaBrash of Galesburg, IL; 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 5 step great-grandchildren, 1 step great-great-grandchild. Three sisters, three brothers, a grandson and a daughter preceded her in death.
