Mr. Kermit E. Johnson, 95, of Claremont, CA, formerly of Galesburg, died at 6:30 AM Sunday May 20, 2001 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Claremont, CA. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday May 29, 2001 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating.
He was born on October 2, 1905 in Altona IL to John and Anna Sophia (Youngdahl) Johnson. He married Hannah Wing in Galesburg on February 19, 1932. She preceded him in death on May 16, 1996. He worked as a grocery clerk for many years. He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by a brother-in-law, Harley Swanson of Pekin IL, several nieces, nephews and cousins. A sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Arthur N. Coon, 71, of 116 Glenwood Avenue, East Galesburg, IL, died at 8:31 PM Wednesday May 23, 2001 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Saturday May 26, 2001 at Knoxville Cemetery with Rev. Milton Marquith officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Saturday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
He was born on May 17, 1930 in Farmington IL to Ora and Leota (Lumberry) Coon. He married Eldora Willene Beary in Knoxville IL on May 19, 1965. She survives. He was a custodian at Knox College for 28 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Farmington First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Willene Coon of East Galesburg, IL; two sons, Chuck and Ron Cummins, both of IN; a daughter, Vera Schneider of Galesburg, IL; three brothers, Dale Coon of Galesburg, IL, Jim Coon and Ralph Coon, both of Farmington, IL and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Richard 'Richie' Smith Jr., 42, of 842 Frank Street Galesburg, IL, died at 6:00 PM Wednesday May 23, 2001 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Saturday May 26, 2001 at East Linwood Cemetery with Rev. Joe Patterson officiating. Memorials may be made to charity of the donor's choice.
He was born on March 3, 1959 in Galesburg to Richard P. and Janice A. (Blakey) Smith. He was a carpenter for various contractors.
He is survived by his parents, Richard P. and Janice A. Smith, Sr. of Galesburg, IL; a sister, Ranee A. Collura of Galesburg, IL; Grandparents, Richard and Phyllis Bauer of Wyoming., IL; a niece, Melissa Collura of Bloomington, IL.

Mrs. Myra G. Flood Nyman, 75, of 167 Illinois Avenue Galesburg, IL, died at 12:07 PM Tuesday May 22, 2001 at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, IL. A celebration of her life will be 1:30 PM Friday May 25, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Paul Unger officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Cottage Home Options or First United Methodist Church.
She was born on July 1, 1925 in Raritan IL to Walter and Ina (Houlton) Flood. She married Frank W. Crookham in Roseville on October 28, 1943. She married Roy Nyman in Cambridge on June 12, 1971.
She was a licensed practical nurse working for the Visiting Nurse's Association of Knox County for 21 years. In 1990, she began working for Cottage Home Options until the time of her death. She was instrumental in developing free immunization clinics and in promoting a public health department. She specialized in visits to families of Sudden Infant Death, premature and high-risk infants. She graduated from Roseville High School in 1943 and from the Galesburg School of Practical Nursing in 1969. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Galesburg. She was on the advisory council for the Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging.
She is survived by a son, Robert Crookham of Dunlap, IL; two daughters, Janis Russell of La Mesa, CA and Judith Thompson of Pasadena, TX; four sisters, Alice Boyd of Galesburg, IL, Mary Covert of Raritan, IL, Eva Freeland of Monmouth, IL and Frances Wolford of Stronghurst, IL; six grandsons and a great grandson. A sister preceded her in death.

Retired US Army Sergeant First Class Robert Lee Williams, 69, of 176 S. Academy Street Galesburg, IL, died at 12:38 PM Tuesday May 22, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. His funeral will be 11:00 AM Friday May 25, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Thomas Heather officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday May 24, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
He was born on August 29, 1931 in Salem IN to Herschel R. and Mary Evelyn (Hedrick) Williams. He married Joan Mast in Whitehall IL on November 16, 1952.
He was in the United States Army for 20 years. He retired in 1968, acquiring the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. He had served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After returning to Galesburg, he worked at Admiral Corporation (now Maytag). He grew up in the Carrollton, IL area and spent a majority of his life in Galesburg.
He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Saathoff of McHenry, IL; three sons, Jonathan Williams of Harrison, AR, Joseph Williams of Phoenix, AZ and Robert Williams of Cedar Hill, TX; four sisters, Barbara Grizzle of Roodhouse, IL, Mary Maxville of Gillespie, IL, Martha Rauzi of Carlinville, IL and Susan Thorton of Greenfield, IL; two brothers, David Williams of Carrollton, IL and Jim Williams of Athensville, IL and five grandchildren. A half-brother and a sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Dennis M. Johnson, 52, of 482 Knox Hwy 26 Galesburg, IL, died at 7:47 AM Tuesday May 22, 2001 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. His funeral will be 10:00 AM Saturday May 26, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Dean Mathews officiating. Burial will be in Oneida Cemetery, Oneida. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday May 25, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Childrens Hospital.
He was born on July 14, 1948 in Galesburg to Vaughn "Sparky" and Jessie (McCormack) Johnson. He married Nancy A. Collopy in Knoxville IL on June 6, 1968. She survives. He was a firefighter for the City of Galesburg for 23 years. He also worked with his father "Sparky" Johnson in the State Farm Insurance office in Oneida, IL. He retired in 1998. He had lived in Oneida until 1968. He graduated from ROVA High School in 1966. He attended Canton Junior College. He was a member of Alpha Masonic Lodge #155, Galesburg and the Mohammed Shrine. He was a member of Lake Bracken Country Club. He was a member of Firefighters Union Local #555. He served in the National Guard from 1969 to 1975.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Johnson of Galesburg, IL; a daughter, Tina L. Johnson of Ewa Beach, HI; a brother, Jorghi Johnson of Oneida, IL and a sister, Trudy Kremer of Oneida, IL.

Mrs. Jeanne K. Farris, 82, of 649 Cypress Lane Galesburg, IL, died at 2:30 AM Tuesday May 22, 2001 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. Her funeral will be 11:00 AM Thursday May 24, 2001 at First Baptist Church in Blandinsville IL. with Rev. Daniel Siems officiating. Burial will be in Glade City Cemetery, Blandinsville. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday May 23, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Galesburg.
She was born on August 28, 1918 in Macomb IL to Ralph and Edna (Lane) Kirkbride. She married Wendell J. Farris in Blandinsville IL on November 12, 1938. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1999.
She worked as a salesperson for Radke Furniture for 30 years, retiring in 1976. She graduated from Blandinsville High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Galesburg IL. She was involved with the Knox County Fair Board Association. She was a member of the Newcomers Club and the Welcome Wagon.
She is survived by a daughter, Diana L. Davajon of Arlington Heights, IL, a son, William Farris of Woodbury, MN, and four grandchildren, Shawn Farris, Mallie Combs, Jeff Farris and Rebecca Farris.

Mrs. Lela P. Tropp, 86, of 275 E. Carl Sandburg Dr. Galesburg, IL, died at 8:46 PM Sunday May 20, 2001 at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Her funeral will be 10:00 AM Thursday May 24, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Mr. Willard Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Wataga Cemetery, Wataga. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Thursday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She was born on March 2, 1915 in Gage OK to Lewis and Nellie (Burkett) Throckmorton. She married Louis Myers in Nevada MO in 1953. He preceded her in death on January 30, 1942. She then married Arnold L. Tropp in Galesburg in 1949. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1999.
She was a seamstress at Gross Galesburg Manufacturing for 26 years, retiring in 1977. She was affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Willard "Bud" (Beverly A.) Morgan of Galesburg, IL, a sister, Eythel Kemmerly of KS, 6 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. A son, Louis Michael Tropp, one brother and eight sisters preceded her in death.

Mr. Arthur Donald Trammell, 74, of 1961 Washington St. Galesburg, IL, died at 9:20 PM Saturday May 19, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday May 23, 2001 at Wyaconda Cemetery, Wyaconda, MO with Rev. Nolan Purtell officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday May 22, 2001 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
He was born on December 1, 1926 in Memphis MO to Arthur D. and Mirinda (Collins) Trammell. He moved to Galesburg in 1947. He worked as a supervisor at Galesburg State Research Hospital for 17 years. He then worked for 5 years for K.C.C.D.D. (Knox County Council for Developmental Disabilities). He also worked as a driver for the VNA (Visiting Nurses Association) for 7 years. He lived in the Quad Cities for 15 years and worked for the Scott County Rescue Squad during the 1970's, before returning to Galesburg. He was a 1944 graduate of Wyaconda (MO) High School. He was a member of Four Square Gospel Church, Galesburg, O.A.K.S. (Older Americans of Knox) and the Galesburg Senior Citizens. He was also a member of "Grand Squares" Square Dancing Club and the Mix and Mingle Single's Club. He volunteered for the American Red Cross.
He is survived by his mother, Mirinda Nelson of Galesburg, IL, a niece, Tina Vaughn of Normal, IL and several cousins.

Mr. Charles W. Liby, 91, of 302 E. Main St. New Windsor, IL, died at 5:03 AM Saturday May 19, 2001 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, IL. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday May 23, 2001 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Louis Cheek of the Milan Christian Church officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday May 22, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Viola Masonic Lodge will provide services at 7:30 PM. Memorials may be made to Shrine Children’s' Hospital.
He was born on August 31, 1909 in Clinton IA to John and Martha (Jackson) Liby. He married Dorothy M. Morrissey in July 1930. She preceded him in death in April 1961. He then married Dorothy A. Chellos in May 1965. She preceded him in death in June 1991. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1972. He served on the New Windsor Village Board for 8 years and is a retired fire chief of the Rivioli Fire Department. He was past patron of the Violet and Woodhull Chapters of the Order of Eastern Star, a past master of the Alpha Masonic Lodge in Galesburg, a past master of the Consistory, the White Shrine and the Royal Arch Masons. He was a 50 year member of the Viola Masonic Lodge and the Violet Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of the Milan (IL) Christian Church. He served in the US Coast Guard.
He is survived by three sons, James C. Liby of Silver Springs, FL, Michael B. Liby of Gainesville, FL and Donald L. Liby of Vinton, IA; two daughters, Mrs. Mike (Linda L.) Noyd of Milan, IL and Mrs. Jerry (Nancy S.) Dufer of Rapids City, IL; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Mr. Robert H. Searl, 90, of 2345 N. Seminary Street Galesburg, IL, died at 10:20 PM Thursday May 17, 2001 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home, Galesburg, IL. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Monday May 21, 2001 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
He was born on October 6, 1910 in Oakville IA to Frank and Sophie (Herr) Searl. He married Geraldine Astle in Kahoka MO on May 29, 1938. She survives.
He was a conductor on the C.B. & Q. Railroad for 48 years, retiring July 1979. He was a charter member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He was also a member and past president of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Searl of Galesburg, IL; two sons, Ronald Searl of Greenville, SC and Thomas Searl of Galesburg, IL; six grandchildren; two-step grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mrs. Ethel M. Lage, 93, of 671 East 3rd Street Galesburg, IL, died at 11:30 AM Thursday May 17, 2001 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Saturday May 19, 2001 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Norman Myer officiating. Memorials may be made to the family.
She was born on April 14, 1908 in Galesburg to William and Jenny (Everett) Cline. She married Edward J. Lage in Galesburg on July 30, 1949. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1984.
She is survived by three step-sons, Glendale Lage of Horseshore, AR, John Lage of Green Castle, IN, and Lawrence Lage of Riverdale, GA; four daughters, Verna Dexter of Clarksville, TN, Ruby Hollis of Pontiac, MI, Beverly Shreeves of Galesburg, IL, Helen Quinlin of Springfield, IL; a step-daughter, Blanche Warden of Lacy, WA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
