RAYMOND C. SCHUTT
Raymond C. “Bud” Schutt, 75, of Sterling died Thursday, August 11, 2005 at CGH Medical Center, after an extended illness. He was employed as a machinist in the nail room of Northwestern Steel & Wire for 41 years until retiring in 1989. He also owned and operated Raylene Flagpole Company since 1980.
Raymond was born February 10, 1930, the son of Raymond and Louise (Knoll) Schutt. He served in the US Navy.He married Arlene Jellerichs on January 21, 1955 in Rock Falls. She preceded him in death November 27, 1993. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sterling and the VFW #326, Sterling.
Survivors include a daughter, Amy Schutt of Sterling; four sons, Raymond “Chuck” (Shirley Austin) Schutt, Randy (Jean) Schutt, both of Rock Falls, Richard J. Schutt, Michael G. (Susie) Schutt, both of Sterling; two sisters, Dorothy (Wes) Brown of Roscoe, Eleanor Wiese of Redlands, CA; three grandsons, Luke, Jonathon, Jacob Schutt; and a special friend, Delores “Babe” Jackley of Sterling.
Preceding him in death was a grandson, Josh Van Patter.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Saturday, August 13, 2005 at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Sarah Schaffner officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-7 Friday, August 12, 2005 at the Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established.

Major Angel Rodriguez
STERLING – Major Angel Rodriguez, 81, died Sunday, July 31, 2005 at his home.
Major Angel Rodriguez was born in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico on August 2, 1923, the son of Juan de Dios and Cruz (Martinez) Rodriguez. He married Connie Perez Navarro on June 24, 1951 in Mexico City, Mexico. Major Rodriguez was an officer of The Salvation Army for 40 years, before retiring on August 2, 1988, and also a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by 3 daughters, Rachel (Ron) Adams of Rock Falls, Abigail (Clyde) Newsome of Omaha, NE; Vasthi (Mike) Gibson of Rapid City, SD; one son, Aholiab (Carol) Rodriguez of Council Bluffs, IA; five sisters; two brothers; twelve grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; one grandson; one grand-daughter, and one great-grand-daughter.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at the Sterling First Church of the Nazarene with Major Wayne Griswold Sr. officiating. Visitation will be Monday, August 1, 2005, from 5-8 PM at the Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to the First Church of the Nazarene, Salvation Army, and KSB Hospice.

Myrtle I. Hines
Sterling - Myrtle I. Hines, 95, died Sunday, July 24, 2005 at Coventry Village.
Myrtle Hines was born February 27, 1910 in Deer Grove, the Daughter of George and Della McQuay Schneider. She married Ralph M. Hines July 1, 1933 in Rock Falls. He preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1992. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Sterling.
Survivors are one sister, Marian Smith of Sterling; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Oehlert officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be 9 to 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 26 at the Schilling Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to the First Christian Church of Sterling.

ROY DOWELL
Sterling - Roy Dowell, 79, died Saturday, July 16, 2005 at CGH Medical Center. He was employed as a steel worker for Northwestern Steel & Wire Mill for 35 years until retiring.
Mr. Dowell was born July 16, 1926 in Troutdale, VA, the son of Bruce and Rosa (Moran) Dowell. He married Elizabeth Blevins on March 22, 1952 in Dixon. He was in the US Army during WW II. He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church, Sterling. He was an avid sports fan.
Survivors are his wife Elizabeth, one daughter, Letha (Perry) Frey of Sterling; one son, Mickie (Karen) Dowell of Middlebury IN; one sister, Betty Stevens of Rock Falls; one brother, Lacy Dowell of Rock Falls; two grandchildren, Alan Dowell and Andy Dowell.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Tracy Dowell, and a sister, Louise Dean.
Services will be held at 1 PM, Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Robin Dale of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Joseph Porter, Deacon of Harvest Time Bible Church, officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be 6-8, Monday, July 18 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.
A memorial has been established.

Bonnie May Leonard
Rock Falls - Bonnie May Leonard, 79, died Friday, July 15, 2005 at New Beginnings Care Center.
Mrs. Leonard was born December 19, 1925 in New Boston, MO, the daughter of Homer and Ethel (Law) Davis. She married James Leonard November 27, 1948 in Brookfield, MO.
Survivors are her husband; a daughter, Connie (Mike) Monnier of Rock Falls; a son, Jerry (Diane) Leonard of Rock Falls; a sister, Freida Echols of Loveland, CO; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at the Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be 9-10:30, Tuesday, July 19 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

HENRY MAGANA
Henry Magana, died Saturday July 9, 2005 at his home, after an extended illness with his family at his side.
Henry was born in Dixon on August 8, the son of Petra (Alvarez) and Juan Magana.
He attended Stoney Point one room school house of Dixon and Wallace School of Sterling. He married Marie Terronez on April 23, 1949 in the Chapel of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport, Iowa.
Henry was employed for thirty-one years at Northwestern Steel & Wire Company retiring in 1986. He enjoyed gardening, watching boxing matches and was a former amateur Golden Gloves Boxer.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; three daughters, Patricia Rascon and Victoria Magana of Sterling, and Camilla Magana of Davenport, Iowa; three sons, Kenneth (Margaret) Magana of East Moline, Steven (Nancy) Magana and Andrew Magana of Sterling; two brothers Louis (Martha) Magana of Sterling and Robert (Socoro) Magana of Silvis; fifteen grandchildren, Angelica A. Portillo, Melissa Magana, Ann Marie Magana, James R. Magana, Eric Rascon, Elena M. Horwedel, Gabriel O. Rascon, Matthew Rascon, Isaac R. Magana, Jacob H. Magana, Jason M. Conley, Jesse A. Gisel, Nina Jo Law, Amy Ann Kurfiss, Maria Lynn Magana; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son Eric in infancy, two brothers Jesus and John Magana and three sisters Antonia Gonzalez, Josephine Perez and Mary Martinez.

Fred Schettler
Fred Schettler, 96, died Friday, July 8, 2005 at CGH Medical Center. He was Owner/Operator of Van Petten Grain Elevator and after selling the elevator in 1970,he worked at Rock Falls High School as a custodian until his retirement in 1982.
Mr. Schettler was born November 17, 1908 in Como, the son of Carl and Helen (Wolber) Schettler. He married Alma Lauts March 23, 1938 at Hopkins Lutheran Church. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Churcha charter member of the Sinissippi Rod & Gun Club and was actively involved at the Whiteside County Senior Center..
Survivors include his wife Alma, a daughter, Linda (Charlie) Dunphy of Harmon; a son, Larry (Adele) Schettler of Sterling; and two grandchildren Rose Dunphy and Mary McGrail..
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marion and Lawrence Schettler;two sisters Minnie Schettler and Gladys Robert.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Reverend Leo Patterson, Assistant Pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be 4-7, Monday, July 11 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

William B.Yemm
Sterling - William B. Yemm, 78, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at CGH Medical Center. He was a teacher, coach, counselor, dean and principal. He taught at Orion, United Twp. and Sterling High School and was Sterling High Principal for 21 years until his retirement in 1988.
Mr. Yemm was born March 9, 1927 in Wakefield, NE, the son of Rev. Stephen and Fern E. (Shurtleff) Yemm. He received his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from Kansas State University. He served in the US Army during WW II. He married Louise Clayberg on June 3, 1951 in Cuba, IL. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was currently an elder, a member of the Sterling Kiwanis Club since 1968, Board of Directors of Illinois High School Assoc., Rock River Region Illinois Prinicipals Assoc., Trustee of the Sauk Valley College Board and also served as President and a member of the Sterling Library Board.
Survivors include his wife; and one daughter, Kristyn Yemm (Tim) Pemrick of Elgin; four sons, Stephen J. (Shannon) Yemm, M.D. of Fort Collins, CO, William D. (Julie) Yemm, D.D.S. of Sterling, Gregory C. (Jenny) Yemm of Overland Park, KS, Robert S. (Susan) Yemm, M.S. of Fort Collins, CO; one brother, Richard S. (Betty) Yemm of Galesburg; 15 Grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, July 11, 2005 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Peter Wilkinson of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation will be 3-6 P.M. Sunday, July 10 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Burial will be at 11 AM, Tuesday, June 12, at Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, IL.
A memorial has been established.

Vivian T. Snyder
ROCK FALLS - Vivian T. Snyder, 86, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at CGH Medical Center.
Mrs. Snyder was born November 22, 1918 in Erie, the daughter of Clay W. and Florence (Quade) Cox. She married Verlin Keith Snyder on July 1, 1937 in Lyons, IA.
Survivors include two sons, Allen W. Snyder of Sterling; Ronald K. (Geraldine) Snyder of Chidester, AR; two daughters, Sharon M. (Harold) Langley of Rock Falls, Linda S. Snyder of Sterling; two brothers, Roy (Arvilla) Cox of Erie; Ross (Elizabeth) Cox of Hartford, AL; three sisters, Jeanne Kay of East Moline, Ava (Walter) Biggs of N. Sacramento, CA, Anne (Jim) Johnson of Erie; seven grandchildren; and several great-Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, July 11, 2005 at the Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be 10-11, Monday, July 11 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

Alda C. Schneider
STERLING - Alda C. Schneider, 99, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Coventry Village. She was self-employed as a seamstress for many years.
Mrs. Schneider was born November 27, 1905 in Albany, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Brubaker) Rummel. She married Reuben Hein who died in 1947. She then married Ralph Schneider in 1951. He died in 1970.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy (Charles) Maxwell of Sterling; three step-daughters, Betty Dravis of Sterling, Joyce (Alfred) Schwitters of Cedar Rapids, IA, Eleanor (James) Vidal of Golden, CO.; sixteen grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vivian Buckingham, a step-son George Schneider and one great-grandson.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, July 8, 2005 at the Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be 12-1, Friday, July 8 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

John Phillip Mangan
Orlando - John Phillip Mangan, 80, formerly of the Sterling area, died Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at Specialty Select Hospital, Orlando, FL. He was employed as a Welder for Northwestern Steel & Wire for 40 years.
Mr. Mangan was born June 12, 1925 in Dixon, the son of Claude and Amanda (Krug) Mangan. He married Nina O. Walters on May 30, 1948 in Sterling. He was in the US Navy during WW II. He was an avid golfer with a long-time membership at Emerald Hill.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Jeri (Daniel) Klepp of Hubertis, WI; Kay (Benjamin) Sharpton of Roswell, GA; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Tarner.
Services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, at the Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Christine Gilbert of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Friday, July 8 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.
