Ronald “Ronnie” Dean Williams, 48, of Kewanee died Sunday October 30, 2005 at the Trinity West Hospital in Rock Island Il. He was born May 3, 1957 in Kewanee to Elmer and Jacqueline (Kaiser) Williams. He was reared and educated in Castleton Il. He married Marcia G. Richardson July 11, 2003 in Toulon Il. She survives as well as two daughters Tracy Williams of Galesburg Il, and Ashley Williams of Wyoming Il. One step daughter Wanda Dailey of Peoria Il. Two stepsons David and Jason Dailey of Kewanee. Six grandchildren Nicole, Gage, Connor, Jacob, Ryan and Karlie. He is also survived by two brothers Russell (Marsha) Williams of Andover Il.. and Chris (Nicole) Williams of Galva Il.

Five sisters Roberta (Bob) Meyer of Lacon, Il. Rita Williams of Galva Il, Renee (Michael) Richardson of Havana Il, Rachel (Gary) Lee of Castleton, Il. and Roxanne Abel of Chillicothe, Il.

He was preceded in death by both parents and one brother Randy in infancy.

He had been an over the road truck driver. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and sightseeing.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday November 2 ,2005 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Kewanee, with David Downs officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 am Wednesday until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in the Wyoming cemetery, Wyoming, Il. A memorial has been established and can be left at the Church or funeral home. The Schueneman & Tumbleson Funeral Home Kewanee, Il. is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Quinn Hurd Baxter

Ruth Quinn Hurd Baxter, of Rockford, Il. and formerly of Kewanee died Sunday, October 23, 2005 in Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was born in Kewanee, Il. the daughter of Harry Martyn and Mertie (Quinn) Hurd. Ruth was an eleventh generation direct descendant of Pilgrim William White of the Mayflower which arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1620 and an eleventh generation direct descendant of the first settled Pastor of the First Church of Christ (Congregational –United Church of Christ) in Wethersfield, Connecticut from 1641-1648. Her great grandfather Oliver W. Brown was an early settler in Wethersfield arriving in 1839.

Ruth’s childhood was spent in Kewanee growing up with one brother Orville William Hurd. After graduation from Kewanee High School, she attended Northwestern University, Evanston, Il. She also studied at the School of Art, Washington University in St. Louis where she was a member of the Pi Epsilon Pi social sorority. Following her studies there, she spent a year at the National School of Fine and Applied Art in Washington, D.C. while she worked for the U.S. government. Returning to the Midwest, she graduated from Metropolitan Business College in Chicago where she later taught English. In Chicago, she worked for the Chicago Transfer and Clearing House and was on LaSalle Street during the 1929 stock market crash.

She married George Byron Baxter, October 6, 1932 in Kewanee. She has been a Rockford resident since 1936. Having a lifetime interest in oil painting, she exhibited her works in many art shows and was past treasurer and an active member in the Rockford Art Guild. As a member of the Rockford Art Association, she served on the Book Stall Committee for the Greenwich Village Art Fair for many years. She was a charter member and deaconess of Spring Creek Congregational Church in Rockford. Also, she was past secretary of the Northwestern Alumni Association of Rockford. Additionally, she was a member of the Illinois Division, Magna Charta Dames and Barrons, The Plantagenet Society, Colonial Order of the Crown and The Society of Descendants of Knights of the Most Noble Order of the Garter. Gardening and traveling were her favorite pastimes. Europe was a repeated destination, and she also visited Japan, China, Central America, South America, Morocco, Greece and Turkey. Her enthusiasm for life, energetic nature and engaging wit made it a pleasure to be with her.

Survivors include her daughter Marilynn Ruth Baxter, Ph.D. of Rockford, a nephew Gerald Martin (Dorothy) Hurd of Phoenix, Az., and cousins Mary Quinn (Clif) Rattenbury of San Rafael, Ca. and Sue Ann Scott (Robert) Irwin of Denver, Co.

At her request, services will be private on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Dr. James Breed of the First Presbyterian Church of Kewanee will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to Spring Creek Congregational Church, 4500 Spring Creek Road, Rockford, Il. 61114.

Dorothy L. Kenney
06/16/1922 - 06/25/2005
Dorothy L. Kenney, 83, of Kewanee, Il. died at 2:20 P.M. Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Kewanee Hospital. She was born June 16, 1922 in Oxford Twp, Henry Co.., Il. the daughter of Donald And Mildred (Hulstedt) Stroud. She graduated from Galva High School in 1940. She married Edwin D. Kenney September 4, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Marion Stroud, Alvin and Glen Wexell and her special friend Dutch Strange.

Surviving are three sons Dale and Celeste Kenney of Phoenix, Az. Dennis and Cyndee Kenney of Kewanee, Il. and Pat Kenney of Beloit, Wi. Ten grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers Everett Wexell of Colona, Kenneth Wexell of Bishop Hill, Chester Wexell of Orion, Il., Laverne Wexell of Galva and Marvin Wexell of Cambridge, Il.

She loved working and had been employed at Pierces Restaurant, J.C. Penney, J. and L. Fabric, Carson’s, Ellison’s Bakery, Good’s Furniture and the Dairy Queen in Kewanee retiring in 2004 due to ill health.

She was a member of the Kewanee Senior Citizen Center, Women of the Moose and the Flemish American Club. She enjoyed dancing, golfing, bowling and playing cards.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Virginia Nelson will officiate. Cremation will follow the services on Wednesday with private family inurnment in Evergreen Memory Gardens, rural Kewanee at a later date. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday June 28 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Senior Center.

James Leslie “Jimmy” Ferris

James Leslie “Jimmy” Ferris, 34 of Lehigh Acres, Fl. and formerly of Kewanee, died at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Meyers, Fl. from injuries sustained in a vehicular accident.

He was born March 22, 1971 in Davenport, Ia. the son of Gerald and Judy (Cruse) Ferris. He was reared and educated in Kewanee.

Surviving is his mother Judy (Mrs. Wesley) McNaught Sr. of Kewanee, four brothers, Jeff Ferris of Kewanee, Wesley McNaught Jr., of Milwaukee, Wi., Gordon McNaught of Scottsdale, Az. Harvey McNaught of Madison, Wi., four sisters Jamie Burwell of Peoria, Julie (Mrs. Jake) Marsh of Brimfield, Il., Lisa McNaught of Lodi, Wi. And Marilyn (Mrs. Mike) Swearingen of Poulsbo, Wa. Numerous aunts and uncles and 12 nieces and nephews and special friends Mr. and Mrs. Dale Davis of Cape Coral, Fl.

His father Gerald preceded him in death in 2005 as well as a sister Jodi in infancy and maternal and paternal grandparents.

He was employed in construction work both in Kewanee and Florida. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kewanee and enjoyed speed skating, horses, boating and fishing. He was an avid bowler and pool player.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 22, 2005 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. Dr. Kevin Siscoe of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Osceola Grove cemetery, rural Bradford. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Friday, October 21st at the funeral home. A memorial fund for the family has been established and contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Amos W. “Bill” Phelps
05/03/1917 - 10/10/2005
Amos W. “Bill” Phelps, 88, of Manlius, Il. and formerly of Kewanee died at 2:40 P.M. Monday, October 10, 2005 at his home.

He was born May 3, 1917 in Center Prairie, Il. the son of Edgar and Mable (Chesser) Phelps. He married Maud M. Patty August 24, 1943 in Princeton, Il. She died November 3, 1990. His parents, one son Donald, two daughters Donna and Dolores, three brothers Alfred, Earl, Floyd and two sisters Eloise and Frances also preceded him in death.

Surviving is a son Thomas (Chris) Phelps of Manlius, Il. with whom Bill resided. Fifteen grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren and eighteen great great grandchildren.

Numerous nieces and nephews.

A veteran of WWII, he served in the Army in the European Theatre. He was a member of the Kewanee VFW Post 8078 and American Legion Post 32. He enjoyed fishing and crafts.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, October 13, 2005 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Virginia Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, rural Kewanee where the Kewanee Veterans Council will accord military honors. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, October 12th from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Parkinson’s or Diabetes Foundation.

Bertha B. Stuhlsatz
02/13/1917 - 10/09/2005
Bertha B. Stuhlsatz, 88, of Kewanee, Il. died at 6:26 P.M. Sunday, October 9, 2005 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Il. She was born February 13, 1917 in Kewanee, Il. the daughter of Frank and Bertha Belsky. She was reared and educated in Kewanee. She married Albert “Bus” Stuhlsatz September 13, 1941 in Kewanee. He died December 15, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Frank Belsky Jr., Benny Belsky and three sisters Mart Block, Onie Overstreet and Louise Belsky in infancy.

Surviving is one son Richard A. (Christine) Stuhlsatz of Shelby Twp., Michigan and two grandchildren Richard G. Stuhlsatz of Michigan and Jennifer Ferri of New Orleans.

She had been employed at Kewanee Works Walworth Co and was named “Miss Walworth” in 1939. She later worked at Boss Glove Co. in Kewanee prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kewanee and enjoyed sewing and knitting.

A mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Rev. Steven Bird will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee, Il. Visitation will be from 11:30 A.M. to 12:45 P.M. on Tuesday, October 11th at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Memorials may be directed to the Windmont Park Christmas Lighting Fund.

Julia Ann “Julie” Smith
11/17/1918 - 07/31/2005
Julia Ann “Julie” Smith, 86, of Kewanee, Il. died at 2:10 P.M. Sunday, July 31, 2005 at Kewanee Care Home. She was born November 17, 1918 in Kewanee, Il. the daughter of Peter Paul and Anna Louise (Merklaits) Martin. She was reared and educated in Kewanee. She married Ward Alvin Smith of Buda, Il. on June 28, 1941. He died April 16, 1989. Her parents, three sisters, two brothers and one niece also preceded her in death.

Surviving is a sister Helen Dorothy Smith of Kewanee. One niece Barbara Ann Boon of Rockford, one great nephew Glenn David Smith and three great great nephews Glenn Anderson, Glenn David Smith Jr. and Ernest Jacob Smith all of Rockford.

Julia taught nursery school for four years and later worked for thirty six years at the Boss

Mfg. Co., prior to retirement. She was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kewanee.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Friday, August 5, 2005 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. Steven Bird of St. Francis of Assisi Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Friday at the Funeral Home.

Mary F. DeBlock

Mary F. DeBlock, 102, of Kewanee, Il. died at 7:35 A.M. Tuesday, September 20,. 2005 at Royal Oaks Care Center in Kewanee, Il.

She was born November 20, 1902 in Belgium the daughter of Reniel D. and Leonie (Mestdagh) Standaert. Her birth name was Maria Valerie and was later changed to Mary Frances while attending grade school. She married Joseph K. DeBlock January 10, 1925 in Kewanee. He died November 19, 1954. Her parents, five sisters Margaret, Clara, Grace Frances and Helen and one brother Julius Standaert and a grandchild also preceded her in death.

Surviving is one son Robert J. DeBlock of Streator, Il. and three daughters Dolores (and Walter Siemers of Kewanee, Donna Junis of Neponset and Frances (and Frank) Sleaford of Sheffield, Il. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She attended Catholic School in Kewanee and was employed at the former Goodwin’s Fruit Market, Kewanee Works Walworth Co. and Kewanee Headwear. During her lifetime she was a member of St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s Catholic Churches and their Altar and Rosary Societies. She enjoyed dancing.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 23, 2005 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Kewanee. Rev. James G. Pallardy will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee, Il. Visitation will be from 9:00 -10:15 A.M. on Friday at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. where the rosary will be recited at 9:00 A.M.

Phyllis Rae Stringer
01/02/1934 - 09/10/2005
Phyllis Rae Stringer, 71, of Kewanee, Il. died at 9:15 A.M. Saturday, September 10, 2005 at Kewanee Hospital. She was born January 2, 1934 in Bloomington, Wisconsin the daughter of Raymond C. and Hutha F. (Brookens) Jamison. She was reared and educated in Wisconsin.

She married James Stringer. They were later divorced.

She was employed at Harper-Wyman in Princeton and Walworth and Hyster Co. in Kewanee prior to her retirement.

She enjoyed fishing, camping, her pets and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are three daughters Sharon Christiansen and Deb (Mrs. Jody) Wittmeyer both of Kewanee and Jodie Sherbeyn of Sparland, Il., two sons Lance (Julie) Stringer of Callahan, Fl. and Troy Stringer and his special friend Andrea Russell of Kewanee, Nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Her parents, one brother Robert Jamison and a sister Ramona Jamison preceded her in death.

Private family inurnment will be in the Blake Prairie cemetery, Bloomington, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Friday, September 16th at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society.
