Lorna C. DeBeir, 90, of R.R. 2 Toulon, Il. died at 8:25 P.M. Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at Kewanee Hospital. She was born May 12, 1916 in Princeville Twp., Peoria County, Il. the daughter of William James and Grace Ada (Pierce) Peterson.

She married Joseph E. DeBeir June 12, 1934 in Cambridge, Il. The couple farmed for many years in the Toulon area. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1974. She was also preceded in death by two sons William J. and Jacque Marcel DeBeir, two sisters Fern and Evelyn and one brother William.

Surviving is one daughter Joan E. (John C.) Rounds of Geneseo, Il., two sons Don (Karen) DeBeir of Bellevue, Ne. and Noel (Diane) DeBeir of Toulon, Il. nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one brother H.O. (Helen) Peterson of Edmond, Ok.

She was a member of Jehovah’s Witness. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and canning produce.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 27, 2006 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. Clifford Wyss will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens, rural Kewanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home.

Mary Kathryn Mikenas
03/06/1917 - 10/26/2006
Mary Kathryn Mikenas, 89, of LaGrange, Il. and formerly of Kewanee and Harvey, Il. died October 26, 2006 at the Meadow Brook Manor Nursing Home in LaGrange. She was born March 6, 1917 in Chase, Il. the daughter of Victor J. and Cassandra (Smith) Olson. She was reared and educated in Kewanee. She married Anthony J. Mikenas on May 13, 1939 in Harvey, Il. The couple resided in Harvey from 1945 to 1978 at which time they returned to Kewanee, Il. He died in October of 1992. Mary moved to Harvey, Il. in 2001.

Surviving is one son John (Gail) Mikenas of Brookfield, Il., one grandson Michael Mikenas and one granddaughter Anne Mikenas. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kewanee.

A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. The Rev. Steven Bird will officiate. Inurnment will be the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee, Il. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.

Alta Kilby

Alta Kilby, 100, of Kewanee, Il. died at 6:15 A.M. Monday, October 16, 2006 at the Helen McIntire Home in Kewanee. She was born January 26, 1906 in DeWitt County, Il. the daughter of Turner J. and Junie (Armstrong) Campbell. She graduated from Decatur High School and Illinois State Normal College in Normal. She taught school in Stark Co., Illinois and later worked in Central Supply at the Kewanee Public Hospital.

She married Cecil L. Kilby June 25, 1927 in Decatur. He died January 31, 1967. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, a daughter Claribel and a son in infancy. Surviving are two sons Gary A. Kilby of Charleston, S.C. and Monte (Becky) Kilby of Kewanee, ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kewanee and the Kewanee Senior Citizens. She was a member of the former North Star Club and the Florence Nightingales of Kewanee Hospital.

She enjoyed flowers, gardening, travel, and spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, October 19, 2006 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Fr. Jerry Rafalko will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens, rural Kewanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or the Kewanee Senior Center.

Ruth Mildred Hunt
01/11/1909 - 10/14/2006
Ruth Mildred Hunt, 97, of Kewanee, died at 3:50 pm Saturday, October 14, 2006 at her daughter’s home in Newberg, Oregon. She was born January 11, 1909 in Victoria, Illinois the daughter of James L. and Emma J. (Johnson) Brown. She married Ralph I. (Doc) Hunt May 31, 1933 in Kewanee. Doc preceded her in death in August of 2000. She was also preceded in death by brothers Clarence, Harold and Fred Brown, two sisters Ethel Bates and Beatrice Bennett and one grandson Jeffrey Hunt.

In 2004 she moved to Naperville and in 2005 to Newberg, Or. where she resided with her daughter.

Surviving is her son Tyler R. (Connie) Hunt of Naperville, Il. and her daughter Jill (Andre) Bogers of Newberg, Or.. six grandchildren James Hunt of Suwanee, Ga., Jon Hunt of Chicago, William Bogers of Portland, Or. Jason Bogers of Newberg, Or., Allyn Bogers of Lake Oswego, Or. and Betsy Bogers of Tigard, Or. and three great grandchildren.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kewanee, participated in various circles and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Clio Club and enjoyed playing bridge, sewing and quilting.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 20, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Dale Kooi officiating. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. There is no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Kewanee or Legacy Hospice. The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. is in charge of arrangements.

Madalyn J. Swedman

Madalyn J. Swedman, 86, of Kewanee, Illinois died at 11:22 P.M. Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at Royal Oaks Health Care Center in Kewanee. She was born December 22, 1919 in Campbellsville, Ky., the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Creel) Morrison. She graduated from Toulon High School. She married Marvin Charles Hollars. She later married Albert Larson. She married Duane Swedman in 1972 in Cambridge, Il. He survives along with one daughter Marlene (Mel) Fuhrman of Kewanee, Il., one son David (Nance) Larson of Boulder, Co., five grandchildren, two stepsons William (Teresa) Swedman of Seattle, Wa., Robert (Julie) Swedman of Kewanee. and five step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters Virginia and Margaret and three brothers Melvin “Cookie”, Earl and Frank.

She had worked as a beautician in Cambridge for many years and later was the cosmetologist at Swedman’s Pharmacy in Kewanee prior to her retirement.

She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cambridge and was currently a member of First United Methodist Church in Kewanee.

She was a member of the Kewanee Pilot Club and Order of the Eastern Star of Cambridge. She enjoyed animals, horses and farming.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Kewanee. Rev. K. Bruce Rushing will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Friday, October 13th at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il.

Edmond R. “Squeak” Beauprez

Edmond R. “Squeak” Beauprez, 89, of Kewanee, Il. died at 11:49 A.M. Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Kewanee Hospital. He was born April 6, 1916 in Kewanee, Il. the son of Achiel and Elizabeth (Helleware) Beauprez. He was reared and educated in Kewanee. He married Ruth E. Frick November 16, 1940 in Maquoketa, Iowa. She preceded him in death December 8, 1999. Two brothers; Rene and Morris “Poot” Beauprez and one sister Laura Tieman also preceded him in death.

Surviving is a son Phillip (Gayle) Beauprez of Kewanee, three daughters Beth (William) Dolieslager of Kewanee, Mary (Dennis) Jackson of Kewanee and Jeanne (Tom) Barton of Nashville, Tn., five grandchildren Jamie, Chris, Brian, Nichole and Islande and two great grandchildren Elise and Jack.

He had worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps and later was employed at Kewanee Machinery and Conveyor where he worked as a welder, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Kewanee. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid Cubs, Bears and Illini fan.

A Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kewanee. Rev. Steven Bird will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Kewanee. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Senior Center or his church.

Jennie May Schmidt

Jennie May Schmidt, 94, of Kewanee, Il. died at 11:15 P.M. May 31, 2005 at the home of her daughter. She was born March 7, 1911 in Toulon, Il. the daughter of Everett and Pearl (Rice) Price. She married Walter Schmidt March 4, 1932 in Toulon. He died in 1974. She was preceded in death by two sisters Mildred Price and Jean Swan.

Surviving is one daughter Phyllis (Wayne) Wiedle of Kewanee. Three grandchildren Bruce (Kris) Jones, Larry Jones and Julie (Jeff) Petty. Four great grandchildren Leanne, Kindra, Amanda and Allie and three great great grandchildren Dakota, Makaylia and Megan. One sister Mrs. Pauline Whitten of Toulon.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Kewanee.

She had provided child care in her home and was a custodian at the former Lincoln School, rural Kewanee. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting.

Private graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 6, 2005 in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, rural Kewanee. Brian Giese of the First Christian Church will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church or Kewanee Hospital Hospice.

Dorothy J. Astrosky
07/19/1920 - 05/29/2005
Dorothy Juanita Astrosky, 84, of Kewanee, Il. was born July 19, 1920 in Kewanee, Il. the daughter of John W. and Margaret Ann (Viles) Kelly. She was reared and educated in Kewanee. She was a registered Beauty Culturist and also was a nurses aide; graduating with the last class from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Kewanee. She owned and operated Dorothy’s Beauty Shop in Kewanee for many years retiring in 1983.

She married Louis J. Astrosky April 29, 1939 in Davenport, Iowa. He survives along with a daughter-in-law Joan K. Astrosky of St. Joseph, Il. One grandson Michael A. Astrosky and one granddaughter Lori (Mrs. Ronald) Norton. Four great grandchildren Jacob and Victoria Elizabeth Astrosky, David and Ashley Norton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, three sisters and son Jerry Louis Astrosky in 2003.

She enjoyed working in her beauty shop and antiquing.

She had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Flemish American Club in Kewanee.

Funeral Services will be at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens, rural Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Rosalie M. Unakis
08/09/1919 - 05/27/2005
Rosalie M. Unakis, 85, of Kewanee, Il. died at 5:25 P.M. Friday, May 27, 2005 at Royal Oaks Care Center in Kewanee. She was born August 9, 1919 in Springfield, Il. the daughter of Roy R. and Edith Marie (Arnold) Thompson. She married Alex P. Unakis April 12, 1939 in Davenport, Iowa. He died June 5, 1986. Her parents, two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.

Surviving is one son Roy R. Unakis of Moline, Il., one brother Charles Thompson of Battle Creek, Mi., one niece Marie Griffin and two nephews James and Jonathan Thompson.

Rosalie was employed as a manager in the ladies department at the former Spurgeon’s Store in Kewanee retiring in 1977.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kewanee and the WAWTABT Sunday School Class. She had been a member of the Kewanee Business and Professional Women and a sewing club.

She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, dogs, birds and flowers.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at the First Baptist Church, Kewanee, Il. Rev. Dr. Kevin Siscoe will officiate. Burial will be in the Wethersfield cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church, Kewanee, Il.
