Richard S. Lurie, 33, assistant registrar for the last 10 years, died July 23 [1994] at his home in Chicago of complications from AIDS. A memorial service was held July 29 at the Jeanne Vail Chapel.
Mr. Lurie was responsible for coordinating the scheduling of undergraduate and graduate classrooms on the Evanston campus and coordinating classroom maintenance.
He received five service excellence awards from Human Resources Administration and was nominated for an Employee of the Year Award.
Mr. Lurie was a member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and the Illinois Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.
He attended Princeton University and received a bachelorŐs degree in Speech and a master's degree in English from Northwestern in 1983 and 1989, respectively.
A resident of Rogers Park, Mr. Lurie was active in AIDS- related organizations. He was also an accomplished pianist.
Mr. Lurie is survived by his parents, Dr. Abraham and Natalie, and two brothers.
