Claude R. Sowle III, 68, former professor and associate dean at the School of Law, died March 2  in Puerto Rico while on a visit to a school for the accreditation committee of the American Bar Association.
Mr. Sowle was a member of the faculty at the School of Law from 1958 to 1965. He also served on the law faculties at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio State University and the University of Miami, where he retired in 1996. From 1969 to 1974, he was president of Ohio University.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Dix Sowle; a daughter, Leslie A. Sowle; a son, Stephen; two brothers; and a grandson. A memorial service was held March 6 at the law school.
