C.R. Goedsche, 92, of Evanston, professor emeritus of German, died March 1 [1997].
Mr. Goedsche was a member of the Northwestern faculty from 1934 to 1972. He was chairman of the German department for 26 years and wrote several books.
Mr. Goedsche was elected president of the Illinois Modern Language Association in 1949 and president of the American Association of Teachers of German in 1951. He served as director of language instruction at the Civil Affairs Training School for German and Japanese from 1943 to 1945. He also directed the 1960 and 1965 Teachers Institutes sponsored by the National Defense Education Act.
In 1961, Mr. Goedsche was decorated with the Officers Cross of the Order of Merit First Class by the Federal Republic of Germany.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Terese, and is survived by his daughter, Charlotte, of Asheville, N.C. Burial was private.
