Dale Owen
Dale Owen, age 82, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away Monday evening, January 20, 2003 at his home.
Dale was born January 23, 1920 in Pinckneyville, IL the son of Thomas and Viola (Hubler) Owen. He was united in marriage to Mabel E. Presswood and she preceded him in death November 13, 1981. Dale was a veteran of the US Army during WWII and was awarded the Bronze and Silver Star and a Purple Heart Medal. He worked as a self-employed painter in the Pinckneyville area.
Dale is survived by three sons; Kenneth D. Owen and wife Carol A. of East Carondelet, IL, Douglas R. Owen and wife Nancy L. of Cahokia, IL, Robert W. Owen and wife Janie of Bangor, PA, eight grandchildren; Thomas A. Owen and wife Kristina, Michael W. and Joshua J. Owen, Melandie L. Goedecke and husband Jason, Nicole R. Owen, Heather A. Owen, Jessica M. Owen, Danielle N. Owen, two great grandchildren, Dalton M. Owen and Bryce Pachorkowski, four brothers; Thomas Owen of Cahokia, IL, Ray Owen of Michigan, Doug Owen of Sparta, IL, and Joe Owen of Alabama, and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Tommy Owen, and four brothers, Alfred, Waldo, Wilfred, and one sister, Dorothy Owen Hopp.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning, January 23, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in the Trinity Assembly of God Church in Pinckneyville, IL with Pastor Kenneth Owen officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill Cemetery.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m., then at the church Thursday morning from 8:00 a.m. till services.
Memorials may be made to the Family of Dale Owen.

Theodore H. Pick
Theodore H. Pick, age 71, of Pinckneyville, passed away Thursday morning, January 16, 2003 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Ted was born in Pinckneyville on January 22, 1931, the son of Walter and Hanna (Wildermuth) Pick. He was united in marriage to Edith M. Beck on October 11, 1958 and she preceded him in death on April 28, 1995. He then married Evelyn Koch on October 16, 1995 and she survives. Ted was a farmer, a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Pinckneyville and was confirmed April 30, 1944, member of the Aid Association for Lutherans and very involved in his church activities.
Ted is survived by his wife Evelyn; two daughters, Deb Blair of Pinckneyville and Bonnie Hitzeman and husband Daniel of Wheaton; one sister, Hilda Roethe of Pinckneyville; three grandchildren, Matthew and Grace Hitzeman and Hailey Blair and a step-daughter, Robin Knope of Steeleville. Ted was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Edith; brother, John and three sisters, Lena Brooks, Velma Dehne and Lillian Albers.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, January 18, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Pinckneyville with Pastor Russ Helbig officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville Friday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., then at the church from 12:30 p.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Archie M. Queen
Archie M. Queen, 88, of Tamaroa, passed away at 2:25 P.M., Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Archie was a retired farmer. He was a member of Friendship Church of Christ in Tamaroa and a former church elder.
He was born October 28, 1914 at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Homer and Martha (Hester) Queen.
He married Viola Evalyn Miller on October 22, 1938 at Du Quoin, IL and she preceded him in death on July 30, 1996.
He is survived by three daughters - Bonnie Tedder of Tamaroa, Glenetta Loucks and husband Gordon of Tamaroa, and Mala Jones and husband Larry of Du Quoin, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter - Brenda Tate, and twelve brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 4, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with his grandsons - Tim and Todd Tate and Bro. Darrell McCombs officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Friendship Church of Christ Building Fund.

Lucy M. Scarlett
Lucy M. Scarlett, 91, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:12 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Marshall Browning Hospital.
Mrs. Scarlett was a member of First United Methodist Church in Du Quoin for 80 years. She was a member of the Crusaders and had been a Counter Clerk at a drug store.
She was born March 17, 1911 at Du Quoin, the daughter of Edward and Maude (Hill) Harriss. She married William A. Scarlett on July 27, 1933 at Mt. Vernon and he preceded her in death on August 1, 1972.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Tootie and Bob Keeler of Du Quoin; two granddaughters, Cindy Broha and husband Jim of Pinckneyville and Jenylle Showalter of Du Quoin; a great-grandson, Kline Peradotta and a step-great-granddaughter, Amber Broha.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one infant son, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 4 at 11 a.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Carl Mesiti officiating. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Friends called on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of services at Neal-McClure Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.

Walter J. Schneider
A funeral Mass for Walter J. Schneider, 76, was celebrated Saturday, January 4, 2003 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Du Quoin. There was no visitation. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Mr. Schneider died Monday, December 30, 2002 at St. Alexis Hospital in Hoffman Estates. He was born March 31, 1926 in Du Quoin. He and his wife have resided in Du Quoin since he retired in 1984.
Mr. Schneider was a 31-year resident of Hammond, Indiana, where he served as a school teacher for the entire time. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #1298 in Du Quoin.
Surviving are his living wife, Loretta C. (Crider) Schneider, whom he married August 16, 1948 in Du Quoin; children, Linda Harris of Arlington Heights and Robert (Clarissa) Schneider of St. John, Indiana; grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason Harris and Matthew Schneider; sisters and brother, Cleopha McNeely of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Eugene Schneider of Garnderville,Nevada and Ida Hess of Christopher and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the late I.W. and Ida Schneider and his step-mother, Mary Buettner.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund in Du Quoin or to the charity of your choice.

Virginia M. Smith
Virginia M. Smith, of Pinckneyville, IL died in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at 6:05 p.m.
Virginia was born in Pinckneyville, IL, the daughter of Henry Scott Smith and Mary Ann (Eydman) Smith. She was a member of the Matthews Baptist Church and worked as a custodian for the Perry County Sherriff's Department.
Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Joslin and husband Jim of Pinckneyville, IL, one grandson, Jim Joslin, Jr. and wife Dorothy of Island Lake, IL and their four children, Amber, Alexander, Amanda, and Alisia, a niece, Shirley Prichett and a nephew, Bill Smith and his wife Marilyn all of Pinckneyville, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, William R. Smith and Harold Smith and a sister, Dorothy Smith.
Funeral services were at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville, IL Saturday morning, January 25, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Charles Smith officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill Cemetery in Pinckneyville, IL.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. then on Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. till services.
Memorials may be made to the Perry County Gold Plate Program.

Dennis Eugene Stanley
Dennis Eugene Stanley, 54, of Springfield, IL, passed away at 2:15 A.M., Thursday, January 23, 2003 at his residence.
Dennis was a sales representative for Borbein Young of St. Louis, MO and Byco Automotive of Springfield, IL. He was also manager of Quincy Wheel & Brake. He graduated from Fulton High School in Fulton, MO and Southwest Missouri State University. He was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed wood working.
He was born February 25, 1948 at Quincy, IL, the son of Harold and Colleen (Harris) Stanley.
He is survived by his parents - Harold and Colleen Stanley of Springfield, IL, one son - Shane Eugene Stanley and wife Andrea of St. Charles, MO, one daughter - Shannon Gregory and husband David of Warrenton, MO, four grandchildren - all of Missouri, sister - Deborah Berry and husband Richard of Augusta, MO, friend - Kathryn Hill of Springfield, IL, aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 27, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Bro. Jim Fisher officiating.
Friends called from 9 to 11 A.M., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Interment was in the Tamaroa Cemetery in Tamaroa.
Friends may make memorials to the American Cancer Society.
