Virginia Lee Valentine
Virginia Lee Valentine, age 61, of Pinckneyvlle, died Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at 11:55 p.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Virginia was born in Pinckneyville on August 23, 1941, a daughter of Wilfred and Sarah Mae (McCrary) Owen Sr. She married Harold Lee Valentine on February 25, 1960 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Todd's Mill, and he survives. She loved to bowl, play bingo and worked as a clerk at Dollar General Stores.
Survivors include her husband, Harold of Pinckneyville; two daughters, Sandy Buller and her husband, Chris, of Tamaroa, Cathy Valentine of Pinckneyville and her special friend, Mike George of Tamaroa; one brother, Wilfred Owen Jr. of Pincnkeyville; five sisters, Sarah Faye Jones and her husband, Jack, of Pinckneyville, Mary Ann Thomas and her husband, Don, of Pinckneyville, Melba Dunihoo and her husband, Frank, of Rice, Janet Harris and her husband, Tom, of DuQuoin and Shirley A. Risley of Swanwick; three grandchildren, Justin Valentine, Amber Frost and Michaela Valentine; two sisters-in-law, Lavon Owen and Dennise Owen, both of Pinckneyville and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Thomas H., Ernel Allen and William Dean Owen.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 2 at 10 a.m. in St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville with Fr. John Venegoni officiating. Interment was in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Cemetery at Todd's Mill.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 until 9:30 a.m.
A prayer service was held at the funeral home on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the Pinckneyville Ambulance Service.

Maurice Lester Ward
Maurice Lester Ward, 82, of Tamaroa, passed away at 11:15 A.M., Saturday, October 19, 2002 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Mr. Ward was a retired switch control operator for GTE Phone Company. He was of the protestant faith. He was a member of the Tamaroa Masonic Lodge # 207, Scottish Rites Valley of Southern Illinois, Ainad A.A.O.N.M.S. of E. St. Louis, IL.
He was born September 20, 1920 in Franklin County, IL the son of Maurice L. and Alpha (Bruce) Ward.
He is survived by a brother Walter Ward and wife Millie of Belleville, two sisters-in-law- Lillian Ward of Overland, MO and Margaret Ward of Benton, several nieces and nephews- Kenneth Ward of Bremerton, WA, Harold Ward of Texico, Ronald Ward of Tamaroa, David Ward of Whittington, Dale Ward of Akin, Steven Ward of Belleville, Scott Ward of Belleville, Sharon Allmond of Irving TX, Patty Schaffner of Florissant, MO, several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- Russell and Mack Ward, one nephew, one great nephew, one great niece.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Rev. Raymond Baggott officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa, Masonic services were held and 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Dix.
Friends may make memorials to the Tamaroa Masonic Lodge.

Opal Alene Wayer
Opal Alene Wayer, 74, of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:40 P.M., Thursday, October 31, 2002 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Opal was van driver and site manager at Gold Plate for 13 years. She also had worked at Country Set and Forrest City Garment Companies, and at Essex. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Du Quoin, Gold Plate, and American Legion Auxiliary.
She was born October 2, 1928, at Raddle, IL, the daughter of Charles Edward and Lettie (Phillips) Ralston.
She married Alfred Wayer on January 23, 1960 at Pinckneyville, IL and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, one daughter - Jean Harris of Du Quoin, one brother - Carl Ralston of South Houston, TX, two grandsons - Kevin R. Harris and Shawn D. Harris of Du Quoin, two granddaughters - Rebecca K. Harris and Amy Kristen of Du Quoin, four great-grandsons - John R. Harris, Kevin R. Harris Jr., Tyler A. Stowers, and Devin A. Harris of Du Quoin, four great-granddaughters - Gena Rae Boss, Kayla Ann Boss, Melissa Marie Harris, and Megan Renae Kristen of Du Quoin, and a host of special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and several sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, nine brothers, and son-in-law John R. Harris.
Funeral services were at 1:30, Sunday, November 3, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Frank White officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Brandon Lee Williams-Rose
Brandon Lee Williams-Rose, three weeks old, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2002 at Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Brandon was born in Carbondale September 19, 2002, the son of Dennis J. Rose and Samantha K. Williams.
In addition to his parents, surviving are his grandmother, Vickie Williams of DeSoto; grandfather, Robert Williams of Carterville; grandmother, Linda S. Henson of Pinckneyville; grandfather, Franklin D. Rose of DuQuoin; brother, Zakery Edward Michael Mueller of Pinckneyville and many loving aunts, close relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, October 14 at 11:30 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Hurst with Pastor Clyde Dempsay officiating. Interment was in Blairsville Cemetery.
Friends called from 9 a.m. until time of services on October 14 at Walker Funeral Home in Hurst.

Ralph Robert Andrews
Ralph Robert Andrews, 86, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:40 A.M., Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at the Veterans Hospital in Marion, IL.
Ralph had operated a used car dealership from 1956 to 1969. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Du Quoin VFW Post 513. He was a US Navy veteran of W.W. II.
He was born January 18, 1916 at Bismarck, ND, the son of Frank and Anna (Pelker) Andrews. He was raised by his stepmother, Frances Andrews.
He married Esther C. Bendrick on November 26, 1936 at St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois, IL and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2000.
He is survived by one sister-in-law - Loretta Reidelberger of DuBois, IL, one brother-in-law - Dr. A.J. Bendrick of Chicago Heights, IL, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother - Stanley, and one sister - Catherine.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 30, 2002 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois with Fr. Daniel Jurek officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Rosary was recited at 7 P.M., Friday at the funeral home.
Interment was in the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in DuBois.
Military graveside rites were conducted by Du Quoin VFW Post 513.
Friends may make memorials to the St. Charles Church Renovation Fund and National Tuberous Sclerosis Association.

James C. Baker
James C. Baker, 78, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:50 P.M., Thursday, November 7, 2002 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
James was a retired jailer with the Perry County Sheriff's Department. He was of the Pentecostal faith. He was a member of Du Quoin VFW and a former member of Rod & Gun Club. He was an Army veteran of W.W. II and earned a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.
He was born March 24, 1924 at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Louis C. and Leona (Rice) Baker.
He married Mary Macaluso and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by five sons - James C. Baker Jr. and wife Linda M. of Du Quoin, Richard A. Baker and wife Scherry of Du Quoin, Louie E. Baker and wife Vickie L. of Du Quoin, Jack W. Baker of Du Quoin, Billy D. Baker and wife Joyce M. of Quicksburg, VA, one daughter - June E. Roznowski and Harold Miller of Elkville, one brother - Jack Baker of Du Quoin, one sister - Shirley Baker of Du Quoin, special friend - Lois Steadman of Du Quoin, twelve grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services were at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, November 10, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Kurt Harris officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin. Military graveside rites were conducted by Du Quoin VFW Post 513.
