Lois E. Wallace
Lois E. Wallace, 75, of DuQuoin, passed away at 8:24 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2001 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Lois was a homemaker and had worked as a nurses aid at Marshall Browning Hospital for nine years. She was of the Protestant faith.

She was born December 8, 1926 at DuQuoin, the daughter of Jesse Coffel Sr. and Jessie (Brayfield) Coffel. She married David Wallace on August 3, 1944 at Norfolk, Va. and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by four children, David Wallace and wife Cathy of San Francisco, Calif., Danny Wallace of Chicago, Debbie Aldridge of DuQuoin, Donna Newcomb and husband David of Patoka, Helen Foster and husband Dean of DuQuoin; brother, Jesse Coffel Jr. and wife Sharon of DuQuoin; sisters-in-law, Lucille Coffel and Mildred Coffel, both of DuQuoin; 10 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Dale, Claude and Jerry Coffel and a grandson, Brian Wallace.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Friday, December 14 at the Old DuQuoin cemetery with Bro. J.W. Fleming officiating.

The Searby Funeral Home of DuQuoin was in charge of arrangements.

Those attending the services were asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Interment was in the Old DuQuoin cemetery.

Jerry Wayne Brocaille
Jerry Wayne Brocaille, 50, of Tamaroa, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at his residence.

Jerry was a construction concrete laborer and had worked at Freeman #3 Mine. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Tamaroa.

He was born October 11, 1951 at DuQuoin, the son of James V. and Norma Lee (Branum) Brocaille.

He is survived by his mother, Norma Brocaille of Tamaroa; children, Stacy Burns of Bakersfield, Calif., Scott Brocaille and wife Melinda of Bakersfield, Calif., Jeremy Brocaille and special Friends Crystal Otter of Lincoln and Rick Brocaille and wife Natalia of Lincoln; sister, Sandra Ward of Tamaroa; brothers, James A. Brocaille and Jeff Brocaille, both of Tamaroa; grandchildren, Ryan Burns, Steven Burns, Justin Sandu, Bryann Brocaille, Bryant Brocaille, Bryndan Brocaille, Chloe Brocaille, Khelsey Brocaille, Carissa Brocaille and Laura Otter.

He was preceded in death by his father; brother, David Lee Brocaille and a nephew, Bill Ward.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 15 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Rev. Dwight Dame officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.

Interment was in the Tamaroa cemetery.

Friends may make memorials to the Grace Baptist Church.

Luella Jane Bandy
Luella Jane (Hamann) Bandy, 66, of Kissimmee, Florida, passed away December 8, 2001 at Kissimmee, Florida.

Surviving are her husband, Larry Bandy; sons, Mark D. bandy of Gainsville, Georgia and Michael E. Bandy of Cummings, Georgia; daughter, Christy Jane Bandy of Sylvia, Georgia and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Clara (Emling) Hamann of DuQuoin.

Funeral services were held on December 13 with her daughter, Rev. Christy Bandy, officiating. Interment was in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge, Georgia.

Victor Arvat
Victor Arvat, age 76, of Belleville, formerly of Pinckneyville, passed away Friday evening, December 14, 2001 in the Belleville Memorial Hospital.

Victor was born in La Thuile, Italy, October 23, 1926, the son of Pietro and Balbina (Morise) Arvat.

Victor fought against Nazi Germany as a member of the Italian Resistance in the mountains of Northern Italy. He then migrated to the USA in 1949 where he lived with his uncle in Pinckneyville, for over 20 years and worked as a farmer. He then earned his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University, went on to receive a master's degree and earned a PhD in Poultry Science from the University of Missouri School of Agriculture. He was employed by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization as an animal nutritionist working for many years in Africa. He then returned to the Belleville area and continued consulting work in his field of expertise. Victor as a member of the World Poultry Health Association, U.S. Poultry Science Association, SIU Alumni Association, University of Missouri Alumni Association and the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Belleville.

Victor is survived by his brother-in-law, Tony West of England; numerous cousins in Italy and dear friends, Ann, Patrick, Theresa and Timothy Mathis. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Catrina.

A funeral mass was held Tuesday, December 18 at St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville at 11 a.m. with Father John Venegoni officiating. Interment was in the St. Bruno Catholic cemetery.

Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. and again on the day of service from 8 until 10:30 a.m. A Prayer Service was held on Monday evening at the funeral home at 7:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Roy James Beal
Roy James Beal, 94, of Centralia, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2001 at Centralia Manor.

He was born April 4, 1907 in Washington County, the son of Walter Christian and Rebecca (Kennedy) Beal. He married Mary Storment on April 4, 1931 in Centralia and she preceded him in death on September 1, 2000. Mr. Beal was a resident of Centralia all his life.

Mr. Beal's major life's work was with the Centralia Baking Company, in the bread wrapping department. He later worked for the Hindman Manufacturing Company until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of Demaree United Methodist Church in Centralia and the Bakers Union.

Surviving are two daughters, Shirley J. Holt of Springfield, Mo. and Nora Jane Jackson and husband Bob of DuQuoin; three grandchildren, Kevin Holt and wife Jean of St. Louis, Mo., Chris Holt and wife Susan of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Jane Ellen Klosterman and husband Michael of Charlotte, N.C.; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Beal was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; two brothers, Philip Dewey Beal and Oscar Beal and three sisters, Alta Abrams, Mabel Bonner and Ruby Hirsch.

Funeral services were Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Pacey Funeral Home in Centralia with Rev. Brad Henson officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Friends called Wednesday from 12 p.m. until time of services at the Pacey Funeral Home in Centralia.

Memorials may be made to the Demaree United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Mary Ann Bramlet
Mary Ann Bramlet, 78, of DuQuoin, passed away at 9:05 p.m. Monday, August 6, 2001 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Mrs. Bramlet had been an English professor at John A. Logan College. She was a member of First Methodist Church of DuQuoin and had lived in DuQuoin since 1979.

She was born November 10, 1922 at Harrisburg, the daughter of Wash and Gertrude (McGill) Clark. She married Major Herb Bramlet I.S.P. on August 16, 1943 in North Carolina. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1982.

Surviving are two sons, Eugene C. (Pat) Bramlet of Carbondale and Mike Bramlet of Springfield; two sisters, Pat Beasley and Sue Parks, both of Eldorado; brother, Charles Clark of Shreveport, La.; grandchildren, Beth (Scott) Robertson of Carterville and Brad Bramlet of Carbondale and one great-grandson, Aaron Robertson of Carterville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.

Funeral services were Thursday, August 9 at 11 a.m. at Maxton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carl S. Mesiti officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.

Friends called after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Maxton Funeral Home in DuQuoin.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Methodist Church.

Audrey I. Milligan
Audrey I. Milligan, age 95, of Pinckneyville, died Monday, August 13, 2001 at 4:15 p.m. on Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.

Audrey was born in Perry County on July 23, 1906, the daughter of Grant and Irene Jane (Milligan) Anderson. She married Willard W. Milligan in November 1928 and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1972. She was a homemaker, a member of the former Galum Presbyterian Church, rural Pinckneyville, and currently a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Williamson of Pinckneyville and Irene Adele Weber of Sparta; a son, Robert L. Milligan and his wife, Charlotte, of Raymond, Ill.; four granddaughters, two grandsons; six great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Mary Anderson of Belleville and Annie Milligan of Campbell Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Gerald Milligan; two brothers, Loren and Auris Anderson and one sister, Vera L. Fulton.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 15 at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Byron York officiating. Interment was in Galum Presbyterian cemetery.

Friends called at the First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday from 9 until 11 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the Galum Presbyterian cemetery Association.

Arrangements were by Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville.

Frieda Ruth Fritz
Frieda Ruth Fritz, 84, of DuQuoin, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2001 at 9:20 a.m. at her residence.

Mrs. Fritz was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of Senior Citizens and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was born April 26, 1917 in Jackson County, the daughter of Sherman and Ruth (Leffler) Heape. She married J.G. (Bill) Fritz on August 8, 1940 at DuQuoin and he preceded her in death on October 13, 1994.

Surviving are a daughter, Billie J. Lynes of Hazard, Ky.; grandchildren, Christine Martin of Hazard, Ky. and Norman Lynes of DuQuoin; great-granddaughter, Kelly Martin; three sisters, Mary (Carl) Porter of DuQuoin, Judy Barrett of Phoenix, Ariz. and Audrey Groom of Osage, Okla. and a brother, Abe Heape of San Francisco, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were a Memorial Mass at Sacred Heart on Wednesday, October 3 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart cemetery.

There was no visitation.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Maxton Funeral Home of DuQuoin was in charge of arrangements.

K. Kirwan Heisner
K. Kirwan Heisner, age 63, of Pinckneyville died Tuesday morning, September 18, 2001.

Mr. Heisner was born May 6, 1938 in Percy, the son of Karl John and Margaret (Kirwan) Heisner. He married Lois M. (Schafer) Raines on July 25, 1988 in Las Vegas, Nev., and she survives.

Other survivors include two sons: Kyle Heisner and wife Shelly of Austin, Tex. and David Raines and wife Valerie of F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyo.; two daughters: Michelle Atkins and husband Mark of Benton, and Jeana Raines of Pinckneyville; 11 grandchildren: Megan Warder and husband Dustin, Jonathan Neil, Zachary and Holly Atkins, Jonathan and Allison Heisner, and Courtney, Zachary, Jacob, Joshua and Jonas Raines; one great-grandson: Nicholas Warder; three aunts: Georgia Leming of Briny Breezes, Fla., Louise Martin and husband Austin of Decatur, and Herma Shively of Bristol, Va.; and numerous other relatives and many friends. His parents preceded him in death.

During his lifetime, Mr. Heisner served with the U.S. Army and worked as a salesman for Rexall Pharmaceuticals. He worked for Consol Coal Company and retired from Burning Star #4 Mine. He was a volunteer fireman with the Pinckneyville Fire Department, and an emergency medical technician for the Pinckneyville Ambulance Service.

In 1983, he was elected to the Pinckneyville City Council as Street Commissioner and was re-elected to that post in 1987 and 1991. On May 1, 1995, he was sworn in as mayor of the City of Pinckneyville. He was re-elected in May, 1999. He had recently served on the Community Planning Commission and the Revolving Loan Fund Committee.

He was a member of the Southern Illinois Mayor's Association and was past president of the organization, having held the office for three years. He was a member of the board of directors of the Illinois Municipal League and on the board of directors for the Greater Egypt Regional Planning Commission. He was named Pinckneyville Citizen of the Year in 1999.

Mr. Heisner was also a member of the Mitchell Lodge #85 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Bodies of East St. Louis, the Ainad Shrine Temple, and the United Mine Workers of America.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2001 at the First Baptist Church at 105 S. Mill St. in Pinckneyville with Fr. John Venegoni, Rev. James Bush, Dr. Robert Smith and Rev. Gerald Wright officiating. Interment was in Mueller Hill cemetery, Pinckneyville. Graveside military rites were conducted by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504.

Visitation was held at the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until the hour of services Friday. Masonic services were held at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Mary Elizabeth Clapp Simpkins
Mary Elizabeth Clapp Simpkins, 90, of Old DuQuoin, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2001 at 3:15 a.m. at her home.

Mrs. Simpkins had been a seamstress for the Garment Factory. She was a member of Old DuQuoin Baptist Church.

She was born July 16, 1911 at DuQuoin, the daughter of Elza and Blanche (Senior) House. She married Harry Clapp on December 25, 1928 in DuQuoin and he preceded her in death on March 28, 1950. She then married Wayne Simpkins on June 23, 1962 in DuQuoin and he preceded her in death on September 29, 1986.

Surviving are one son, Dean Clapp of DuQuoin; one daughter, Gledith Fulkerson of DuQuoin; one step-daughter, Betty Fleming of Flanigan, Ill.; one sister, Anna Mae Schram of DuQuoin; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one grandson and one sister.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 11 at 2 p.m. at Old DuQuoin Baptist Church with Rev. Ted Clark officiating. Interment will be in Old DuQuoin cemetery.

Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Monday, September 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 12 Noon, at which time visitation moved to the church for viewing from 12:30 p.m. until time of service.

Memorials may be made to Old DuQuoin Baptist Church.

Arline C. Provart
Arline C. Provart, 89, of Sherman, Ill., formerly of the Paradise Community at Tamaroa, passed away at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2001 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Ill.

Arline was a homemaker and a member of the Living Faith Baptist Church at Sherman and had been an 80-year member of the Paradise Baptist Church. She had served as church clerk, Sunday School teacher and church organist and pianist. She was a charter member of the Perry County Home Bureau and had served as an officer for many years in that organization. She served on the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension State Board. She had been secretary of the District 208 School Board. She was a 4-H leader and had also been an Avon sales lady for 50 years. She was president of the Resident Council of Villa Healthcare Center at Sherman.

She was born May 8, 1912 at Paradise Prairie, the daughter of Henry C. and Elsie B. (Ragland) Krone. She married Bernis Provart December 25, 1932 at West Frankfort. He passed away October 6, 1994.

She is survived by seven children, Barbara Price of Scottsdale, Ariz., Wayne Provart and wife Sharon of Minneapolis, Minn., Robert Provart and wife Patricia of Loudon, Tenn., Bonnie Ortiz and husband Bob of State College, Penn., Ronald Provart and wife Sandra of Springfield, Ill., Beverly Boschert and husband Terry of Springfield, Va. and Roger Provart of Springfield, Va.; a sister, Norma Czar of Kissimmee, Fla. and a brother, Virgil Krone of Urbana; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Mildred Klym and Dorothy Baker and a son-in-law, Ron Price.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2001 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Shaw DeMent officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.

Interment was in the Paradise Prairie cemetery at Tamaroa.

Friends may make memorials to the Living Faith Baptist Church Building Fund at P.O. Box 185, Sherman, IL 62684 or to the Paradise cemetery or to the donor's choice.
