Harold Eugene George
Harold Eugene George, 49, of Tamaroa, passed away at 7:23 A.M., Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Harold worked as a toe motor driver at Sparta Aluminum. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He was born January 12, 1954 at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Louie and Rosie (Knapp) George.
He married Angie Woodrome on June 24, 1972 at St. Johns, IL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Tamaroa, one daughter - Cathy Eubanks of Du Quoin, one son - Mark George of Tamaroa, mother - Rosie George of Tamaroa, four brothers - Jimmy George of Panama City, FL, Howard George of Tamaroa, Eddie George of Tamaroa, and Glen Harlan of Tamaroa, two sisters - Joann Skorcz of Tamaroa, and Patricia Ellison of Tamaroa, and five grandchildren - Danielle George and Samantha George of Valier and Brandon, Benjamin, and Nolan Eubanks of Du Quoin.
He was preceded in death by his father, one son - Harold Eugene George and one brother - Frank.
Funeral services were at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, August 31, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Rev. Joseph Crowe officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Interment was in the Tamaroa Cemetery at Tamaroa.
James Edward Heeren
James Edward Heeren, 67, of Danville passed away at 1:39 pm on Wednesday August 13, 2003 at Provena USMC Logan Campus. He was born on May 4, 1936 the son of Edward and Edna Fensterman Heeren in Granite City, IL.
He married Linda Gogerty on December 1, 1998 in Naples, FL.
Survivors include: his wife Linda Heeren of Danville, one son: Christopher (Wendy) Heeren of Danville, one step-son: Ryan (Kim) Haggerty of Bowling Green , KY, one daughter: Josie Heeren of Danville, IL, one step-daughter Stacy (John) Ehmen of Royal, IL, one brother: Dr. Robert Heeren of Issaquah, WA, two grandsons: Joey and Max Heeren both of Danville, one step-grandson: Gage Haggerty of Bowling Green , KY one step-grandaughter: Jordan Ehmen of Royal, IL, two nieces: Stephanie (Jeff) Justus and Katy Heeren all of Washington State, one nephew: Jon Heeren also of Washington State, as well as four dogs: Redd, Raja, Rok, and Lexus.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was retired from Danville Area Community College after 27 years of service where he was Director of Financial Aid, and served as Head Basketball Coach at DACC for many years.
He received his Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Louisville where he played on the 1956 NIT Championship Basketball team. He later received his Masters Degree in Psychology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Throughout his career he helped many people achieve their education dreams.
He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
He enjoyed spending his free time fishing, hunting, and traveling to field trial competitions with his Labrador Retrievers, most of all he loved being with his wife, family and friends.
A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday August 19, 2003 at 10:00 am in St. Paul's Catholic Church in Danville with Father Doug Hennessy officiating.
Burial was at Turtle Run Circle of Remembrance. Visitation was held on Monday August 18, 2003 from 4:00 to 8:00 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center with an 8:00 pm Prayer Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jim's name to the DACC Foundation or St. Paul's Catholic Church.
George Hopkins
George Hopkins, 94, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:15 P.M., Friday, August 15, 2003 at Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.
George worked as a tipple operator at Consol #2 coal mine. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of Du Quoin Masonic Lodge, Ainad Temple Shrine, Scottish Rites, and UMW of A. He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II.
He was born April 21, 1909 at Christopher, IL, the son of Gwilym and Jane (Waugh) Hopkins.
He married Dorothy May Bishop on January 10, 1943 at Perryville, Missouri and she preceded him in death on August 2, 2001.
He is survived by one daughter - Janet Hopkins of Du Quoin, one son - John Hopkins and wife Debbie of Du Quoin, and grandchildren - Debbie Hopkins, James Hopkins, Christopher, Amy, and Michael Hopkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers - Bill and James and one sister - Elizabeth.
Memorial services were held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Carl Mesiti officiating.
Friends called from 9 A.M. until 10:30 A.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Masonic service was conducted at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Military graveside rites were conducted by Du Quoin VFW.
Friends may make memorials to Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Elmo Gerald Jeremiah
Elmo Gerald Jeremiah, 81, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:15 A.M., Monday, August 4, 2003 at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Elmo worked as a superintendent with CIPS in Du Quoin and retired in 1987. He served with the U.S. Army Engineers in Europe as First Sargent from 1943 until 1946 and he retired as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve Infantry in December 1966. Elmo was a lifetime member of Du Quoin American Legion and Du Quoin VFW, an apprentice of Tamaroa Masonic Lodge, and Past Commander of District 15 VFW in Marion.
He was born July 22, 1922 at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Vernon and Nellie (Brayfield) Jeremiah.
He married Theresa Dunn on December 4, 1948 at Mayfield, Kentucky and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one daughter - Sandy Degler and husband Rick of Du Quoin, one son - Billy Lavern Jeremiah and wife Paula of Pinckneyville, two grandsons - Scott Loyd and wife Kimberly and Eric Ramsey, all of Du Quoin, step granddaughters - Amy and Kelly Wildermuth of Pinckneyville, great granddaughter - Elizabeth Marie Loyd of Du Quoin, step great grandsoon - Kelton David Linze of Pinckneyville, one sister - Virginia Heiple of DeSoto, IL, and one sister-in-law - Jean Jeremiah of Peoria, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepdad - Clarence Buckles, and two brothers - George and Vern.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 7, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Jerry Dunn officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Wednesday at the funeral home.
Military graveside rites were conducted by Du Quoin American Legion.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Manuel Kastin
Manuel 'Mike' Kastin, of Madison, Ill., passed away at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. on August 8, 2003 at the age of 82. He had been in failing health for several months.
Mike was born in Madison on January 16, 1921, the son of Harry and Rose (Friar) Kastin. He was united in marriage on December 20, 1969 at the First Presbyterian Church in East St. Louis to Eleanor Pyatt.
He retired in 1987 after serving as Accountant and Vice President of First Federal Savings and Loan and served on the Board of Directors of the Madison County Mutual Insurance Co. and on the Board of Directors of Magna Bank, formerly First National Bank in Madison, now Union Planters Bank.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II, the Korean Conflict and was commander of Amvets Post 204 of Madison.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Pyatt of Madison; two nephews, Craig Swartz and wife Cheryl of St. Louis, Mo. and Frank Dry and wife Shirley of Springfield; one niece, Marilyn Stringer and husband Steve of Ullin and one sister, Esther Swartz of Creve Couer, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jennie Bornstein.
Visitation was held at the Pletcher Funeral Home at 627 St. Louis St. in Edwardsville on Monday, August 11 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Graveside services were held at the Galum Presbyterian Cemetery on Tuesday, August 12 at 11 a.m. in Pinckneyville.
Memorials may be made to the Barnes Jewish Hospital Foundation or the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Douglas E. Kelly
Douglas E. Kelly, retired IRS employee, passed away at home on August 5, 2003.
He was the beloved husband of Janice (Howlett) Kelly; father of Pamela Kelly Hyde and Patricia Kelly; brother of Marylynn Kelly Taylor of Chicago, Mamie Kelly of Energy, Alva Leon Kelly of Du Quoin and Robert H. Kelly of Anchorage, Alaska. He was the son of the late Golda Kelly McLemore of Du Quoin.
Visitation was Friday, August 8 from 5 to 9 p.m. and funeral services will be Saturday, August 9 at 10 a.m. at Ted Foster & Sons White House Chapel North, Inc., 10192 Halls Ferry Road, St. Louis, Missouri.
