William E. Whitlock
William E. Whitlock, 81, of Alton, formerly of Harrisburg, died 11:06 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at St. Anthony Hospital in Alton.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at Gaskins Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be in Big Ridge cemetery near Harrisburg. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at the funeral home.
He was born April 5, 1921, in Raleigh to William Wayne Whitlock and Molly D. (Oglesby) Whitlock Kruse. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maynelle Oliver.
He worked at Carmac Coal Company in Saline County for 18 years and then at Egyptian Construction Company in Cottage Hills until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion. He was in the Navy Seabees in Port Hueneme, Calif. from 1945 to 1946.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Charles (Elizabeth Beggs) Whitlock of Cottage Hills; three daughters, Margaret Trammel of Alton, Elizabeth (Terry) Van Meter of Carrier Mills and Barbara (Bert) Trammel of Harrisburg; 10 grandchildren, Stacey (Lance) Darr, Chris (Susan) Whitlock, Danielle Trammel, Aaron (Jean) Trammel, Sarah Trammel, Joe Van Meter, Tara (Donnie) Prather, Jessica Van Meter, Michael Trammel and Angie Trammel; and 16 great-grandchildren, Ian and Charlie Darr, Charley Whitlock, Caitlyn, Zachary and Devan Trammel, Jacob and Leah Trammel, Alexis Hathaway, Kellcey Jo Van Meter, Dillan Harrison, Addalyn Prather, Shelby, Gunnar and Peyton Trammel and Benjamin Spurlin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Wayne and Molly (Oglesby) Whitlock Kruse; his stepfather, A.W. Kruse and son-in-law, Fred Trammel.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton or the charity of your choice.

Lola M. Wilson
Lola M. Wilson, 86, of rural route 4, McLeansboro, died 9:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at the McLeansboro Health Care Center.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Scott Webb officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
She was the widow of James Randal Wilson Sr. She is survived by a son and his girlfriend and two grandchildren.

Gilford P. Griffin
Gilford P. Griffin, 31, of Hayward, Calif., formerly of Harrisburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with Fr. Don Abell officiating.
Further family details and funeral arrangements will be available later from Reed Funeral Chapel.

Harold Edwards
Harold Edwards, 77, of 19275 Edwards Road, Omaha, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Omaha with the Rev. James Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Palestine No. 2 cemetery in Omaha. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at the funeral home.
He was born March 19, 1925, in Omaha to the late Luther and Cleada (Carroll) Edwards. On March 23, 1989, he married Etta F. Craighead, who preceded him in death Aug. 5, 2000.
He was a veteran of the WWII Army and was a retired farmer.
He is survived by a sister, Margery Phillips of Ridgway; eight nieces, Joann Edwards, Joyce Dillon, Connie Disney, Rita Patrick, Darlene Wheatley, Linda York, Theresa Wright and Rosanne Ellis; four nephews, James Edwards, Paul Mitchell, John Mitchell and Richard York; and several cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsa Mitchell and Artie York; a brother, Amos Edwards; and two nieces, Elsa Aubuchon and Carol Grace.
The family suggests donations be made to the Gallatin County ESDA or to Palestine No. 2 cemetery in Omaha.

Ethel Marie Denbo
Ethel Marie Denbo, 85, of rural route 1, Dahlgren, died 7:20 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesdsay, Jan. 15, 2003, at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with the Rev. Jim Hefner officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery in McLeansboro. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, James Kenneth Denbo; a son; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; a brother; and a sister.

Juanita V. Smith
Juanita V. Smith, 83, of Oakland City, Ind., died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton, Ind.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Oakland City with Dr. Douglas Low officiating. Burial will be in White Church cemetery in Princeton. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City and 8 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the church.
She is survived by seven children, 10 brothers and sisters, 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Willard Leo Ford
Willard Leo Ford, 56, of Lansing, Kan., formerly of New Burnside/Carrier Mills, died at his home Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Davis Funeral Home in Leavenworth, Kan. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002.
He was born on Aug. 21, 1946, in Hardin County to Lucy Henson Ford and the late Sidney B. Ford.
He was employed for 17 years at the U.S. Federal Penitentiary in Leavenworth. He worked as a supervisor for 10 years at General Motors and served 10 years as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He served in the Vietnam War and 10 years in the U.S. National Guard.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Linda Ford; a daughter, Tracie (Terry) Sparks of Clarksville, Tenn.; a son, Rodney (Kim) Ford of Lansing, Kan.; daughter, Kelly (Robert) Purduski of Edwardsville, Kan.; son, Jason Ford of Topeka, Kan.; sister, Dorothy (Carol) Scott Bruce of Carrier Mills; sister, Paula (Bob) Shewmake of Harrisburg; sister, Betty Stricklin of Anna; sister, Judy (Daniel) Thompson of Leavenworth, Kan.; and sister-in-law, Ida Ford of Carrier Mills. Nine grandchildren: Ryan and Zack Sparks; Kendra, Jessie, Justin and Kayla Ford and Emily, Austin and Ashley Purduski; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in the Saline County area.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Gene Ford; a sister, Diane Sue Ford; aunts, Margret Henson, Mayme Jones and Ruth Williams; uncle, Glen Odel Ford and one grandchild, Sydney Purduski.
Memorial contributions may be given to: Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Southwestern Regional Medical Center, 2408 E. 81st St., Tulsa, Okla. 74137.

Michael Harrelson
Michael Harrelson, 49, of 20 Rays Road, Harrisburg, died 6:48 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills.

Eula M. Vaught
Eula M. Vaught, 96, a resident of Ridgway Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Junction in the Gibsonia community, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at her residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Pisgah General Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Patton and the Rev. Greg Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Leamington cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway.
She was born in Eagle Creek Township on Nov. 4, 1906 to the late T. Jeff and Laura (Hale) Williams. On Dec. 6, 1930 she married John E. Vaught, who preceded her in death in 1973.
She was a homemaker and a very loving mother. She was the oldest member of the Pisgah General Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Harold Vaught of Junction.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Edgar, Elsworth, Virgil, Jeff, James and Ted Williams.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Pisgah General Baptist Church Building Fund.

The Rev. Butch Cowsert
The Rev. Butch Cowsert, 52, of Rosiclare, passed away in the Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Dorrisville Social Brethren Church, 1320 S. Land, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Jay Raymond, the Rev. Steve Hunt, the Rev. Jason Cowgill and the Rev. Bernie Cowgill officiating. Burial will be in Grand Pierre cemetery in rural Golconda. Graveside honors will be by veteran's service clubs American Legion of Harrisburg Post No. 167 and Carrier Mills Post No. 364. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at the church. Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare is in charge of the arrangements.
The Rev. Butch Cowsert was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam. He worked for 25 years in the mining industry. Butch worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation in road maintenance. He was an ordained minister of the Social Brethren Church and served to pastor several area churches for approximately 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Kay Cowsert of Rosiclare; a daughter, Penny Davis of Harrisburg; two brothers, Kenny and Billy Cowsert of Rosiclare; a sister, Betty Foster of Rosiclare; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Loveless (Atkinson) Cowsert; a sister, June Cowsert; and an infant brother.

Charles Colin Carroll
Charles Colin Carroll, 58, of Harrisburg, died 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery near Eldorado. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at the funeral home.
He was born March 18, 1944 in Evansville, Ind. to George Washington and Margaret Maude (Dunn) Carroll.
He was a truck driver and a member of Little Chapel Church in Raleigh.
He is survived by four daughters, Melissa Carroll of Harrisburg, Sharon Carroll of Brownsville, Charlotte (Tony) Hayes of Huntington, Tenn. and Martha (Earl) Kile of Grisham, Ore.; two sons, Charles Carroll Jr. and Justin Wade Carroll, both of Eldorado; three stepdaughters, Sherry (Jason) Rhodes of Craig, Colo., Carrie (John) Baer and Tara Anderson, both of Carrier Mills; two sisters, Juanita Tayes of Tennessee and Lorene Schuttle of Evansville, Ind; a brother, George Carroll of Clifton, Tenn. and 18 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Dilback.
