Ballard, Michael L.

Services for the couple killed in a car-train crash Saturday afternoon near Nokomis are being held jointly at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Agape Word Fellowship Church in Vandalia. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in rural Ramsey. The families of Michael Lee Ballard and Nikki Sue Elliot will receive friends in the Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday or at the church on Thursday from one hour before the service. Michael Lee Ballard, of Vandalia, was pronounced dead at 2:40 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 1999, at the scene of the accident. He was 21 years old on January 5, and a laborer with Try-R-Construction of Ramsey. Nikki Sue Elliot, of Ramsey, was also pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 2:40 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 1999. She was 16 years old on October 28 and a student at Ramsey High School. The couple had a son, Kyle Barry Elliot, who was not with them at the time. He survives. Mr. Ballard was born in Hillsboro, a son of David and Vickie Hanley Hutchcraft; they survive. Also surviving are a brother, Billy Allen Hutchcraft of Vandalia; and grandparents, Bob and Lulubell Hanley of Ramsey and Alta Kendall of Vandalia. Miss Elliot was born in Effingham, a daughter of Barry Lynn and Renee Nash Elliot. Her mother, a resident of Memphis, Tenn., survives along with a sister, Bambi Elliot of Ramsey; grandparents, Chuck and Pat Nash of Ramsey, Roy Elliot of Vandalia, Elaine Elliot of North Carolina. Her father, Barry Elliot, preceded her in death on April 7, 1997.

Ballard, Michel Lorraine

Graveside memorial service for Michel Lorraine Ballard, of Litchfield, will be held at a later date in Protem, Mo. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in Plummer Funeral Home. They suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis. Mrs. Ballard died at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 35 years old on August 3. She was a seamstress with Ameritex Industries in Litchfield. She was born in St. Louis County, a daughter of Lawrence Wesley and Patricia Louise Nave Dreyer. She married Michael Ballard in 1985 and they divorced in 1994. Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Ballard of Chester, Ark.; her mother, Patricia L. Dreyer of St. Louis; and sisters, Carolyn Bain of Auburn and Elaine Specking of Litchfield.

Ballard, Opal

Services for Opal Ballard, formerly of Irving, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Friday from one hour before the service. Mrs. Ballard, of Sullivan, died at 3:49 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 1999, in Decatur Memorial Hospital. She was 88 years old on January 27. She was a nurse's aide for many years at the Illinois Masonic Home in Sullivan. She was born in Irving, a daughter of Rolla and Florence Beasley King. Her first husband was Robert Lynn Barker, whom she married in 1927. On October 27, 1943, she married Jay Wilbur Ballard in Decatur; he died May 8, 1979. Surviving are sons, Rolla Barker of Carbondale, Charles Ballard of Decatur; daughters, Wanda Vess of Pasadena, Texas, Helen Trombly of Kenley, N.C., and Pauline Shasteen of Sullivan; a sister, Ruby Renken of Hillsboro; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Ballentine, Ann M.

Funeral Mass for Ann Marie Ballentine, formerly of Mt. Olive, was said Saturday in St. James Catholic Church, Riverton. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery near Riverton. Mrs. Ballentine, of Riverton, died at 1:35 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 1999, in Springfield Healthcare. She was 81 years old on February 26. She born in Mt. Olive, a daughter of John and Susanna Kvak Rimar. She married Harold Ballentine on April 22, 1938; he died January 8, 1980. Surviving are a daughter, Peggy Ann Noyes and husband Gary of Sherman; a son, Donald L. Ballentine and wife Mary Teresa of Chatham; a brother, Michael Rimar of Niles; and four grandsons.

Ballinger, Marjorie L.

Services for Marjorie L. Ballinger, sister of Orville Brackenhoff of Raymond, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Grace Lutheran Church in Paris. Committal service will be held at 2:30 p.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Nokomis. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the Sutton and Son Funeral Home in Kansas, Ill. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund. Mrs. Ballinger, of Kansas, died Sunday, November 28, 1999, in Columbus Hospital, Columbus, Texas. She was 78 years old on April 16. She was a teacher. She taught math and science at several high schools for 34 years. She retired in 1985 from the Kansas High School. A graduate of Nokomis High School, she earned degrees from Illinois State University and Eastern Illinois University. She was born in Nokomis, a daughter of Henry G. and Sophie Brakenhoff. She married Elwin O. Ballinger in 1943 in Lincoln. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Roy Ballinger and wife Trudy of Rochester; daughter, Joyce Johnson of Kansas; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Balon, Frank

Funeral arrangements for Frank Balon, of Hillsboro, are pending at Patton Memorial Home there. Mr. Balon died at 8:37 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 82 years old on January 30, and an Army veteran of World War II. He moved to Hillsboro in 1993 from Chicago where he had worked as a photo engraver from the age of 17 until his retirement from Northwestern Photo Engravers. He loved to water ski. He was born in Staunton, a son of John and Wilhemina Balon, and moved to Chicago at the age of 6. He married Lorene Sidwell on September 2, 1941, in St. Louis. She survives. Surviving also are son, Frank L. Balon and wife Mickey of Lombard; daughter, Connie Earnest and husband Jim of Hillsboro; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Preceding him in death were a son, William "Bill" Balon on July 22, 1995, and a brother, William Balon. Services for Frank Balon, of Hillsboro, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Patton Memorial Home there with the Rev. Kenneth Sandlin, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 1309 of Taylor Springs. Friends may call in the funeral home on Saturday from noon until the time of service.

Bandy, David L.

Services for David L. Bandy, formerly of Litchfield, were held October 7 in the Frist Christian Church of St. Ann. Burial was in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in St. Louis County. Mr. Bandy, of St. Louis, died October 4, 1998. He was 59 years old on April 20. He was director of sales for Star International Marketing for 39 years, and a member of the First Christian Church of St. Ann. He attended Southern Illinois University after graduating from Litchfield High School in 1957. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Leland A. and Dorothy Bandy. His wife, the former Judy A. Givens, whom he married January 27, 1962, survives. Surviving also are daughters, Deborah Hollman and Laura Hoell and three grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his mother, Dorothy Bandy and a brother, Barry Bandy.

Bandy, Leland Albert

Services for Leland Albert Bandy, of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Johnson, of the Union Avenue Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Ridge Cemetery at Honey Bend. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Mooseheart Children's Home. Mr. Bandy died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 84 years old on November 3. He was a rail foreman with the Wabash Norfolk and Western Railroad for 38 years before he retired. He was a member of the Union Avenue Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Litchfield and of Litchfield Moose Lodge 1634. He was born in Bond County near Green ville, a son of Louie and Stella Gertrude Savage Bandy. He married Dorothy Rosetta Thompson on May 29, 1938, in St. Louis. She died January 13, 1990. Surviving are a daughter in law, Judy A. Bandy of St. Ann, Mo.; brother, William W. "Bill" Bandy and wife Peggy of Crestwood, Mo.; sisters, Fern Terry of Florissant, Mo., Dorothy Pease of Taylor Springs, Wanda McCready of Murryville, Pa.; two grandchildren, Debbie Hollman and husband Kurt of Rolla, Mo., Laura Hoell and husband John of St. Ann; and three great grandchildren, Luke and Clair Hollman and Hillary Hoell. Preceding him in death were sons, Barry W. and David L. Bandy and brothers, Jim and Bernard Bandy. Srevices for Leland Albert Bandy, of Litchfield, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Plummer Funeral Home. The Rev. Jay Johnson, pastor of Union Avenue Christian Church, officiated. Burial was in Cedar Ridge Cemetery at Honey Bend. Musical selections for the service were "His Eye is on the Sparrow," "How Great Thou Art," "In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages." Pallbearers were Jim Curto, Don Jones, Marvin Lowe, Charlie Marit, Mike Wood, all of Litchfield, and Jim Wolfe of Gillespie. Following the committal service a meal was provided for the family and friends by the Women of the Moose. Mr. Bandy, 84, died Tuesday, January 12, in St. Francis Hospital.

Bandy, Stephanie M.

Funeral Mass for Stephanie M. Bandy, of Litchfield, will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Litchfield. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Plummer Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Holy Family Building Fund. Mrs. Bandy died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in St. Francis Hospital. She was 84 years old on December 30. She was a nurse's aide at St. Francis Hospital for many years before retiring, and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was born in St. Louis, a daughter of Stanislaws and Louise Gleba Mydlowski. She married Frank Kuciejcik in 1931 and he died in an accident near Honey Bend in 1936. She later married Willard Bandy on March 18, 1942, in St. Louis. He died in 1963. Surviving are sons, James Kuciejcik of Orlando, Fla., Thomas Bandy and wife Pat of Cottage Hills, Michael Bandy and wife Karen of Litchfield; a daughter, Frances Rymowicz and husband Anthony of Lemay, South County, St. Louis; six grandchildren, Monica and Keith Kuciejcik, Gail Remer, Stephanie Weisenborn, Sharon Clarke and Debbie Bandy; and five great grandparents. Preceding her in death were brothers, Stanley and Walter Mydlowski and sisters, Stella and Laura Lorodo and Frances Lears. Funeral Mass for Stephanie M. Bandy, of Litchfield, was said at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Family Catholic Church by the Rev. Father Ted Schelich, chaplain of St. Francis Hospital. Placing the pall were Mary Jean Moore and Karen Bandy. Kathy Skinner was the organist and Polly Wand, the cantor. Musical selections were "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," "Eye Has Not Seen" and "Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee." Sr. Rosella Uding was the lector. Mary Thunhorst and Kitty Daly, ministers of the Eucharist, also brought forth the gifts. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tom Currie, Joe Funk, Mike Funk, Richard Hampton, Keith Kuciejcik and Tom Moore. Following the committal service a luncheon was provided for the family and friends by the women of the church. Plummer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Bandy, 84, died Sunday, April 4, in St. Francis Hospital.

Bandy, Thelma B.

Services for Thelma Bernita Bandy, of Litchfield, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Allen officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Plummer Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church Building Fund. Mrs. Bandy died at 2:20 a.m. today, Wednesday, October 6, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. She was 85 years old on December 7. She was employed by Hillsboro Dress Factory and Betty Dee Garments of Litchfield from 1949 to December 1976, and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union for 28 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield, the Zanesville Household Science Club, Order of the Eastern Star, White Shrine and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was born near Barnett in Shaws Point Township in Macoupin County, a daughter of Thomas Stanley and Minnie Alice Wallis Gates, and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1932. She married Benjamin Wayne Bandy on May 1, 1933. He died April 28, 1991. Surviving are a son, Joe W. Bandy and wife Joan of Mt. Vernon; daughter, Alice B. Schneider of Litchfield; sisters, Helen Holliday and husband Eugene, Dorothy Zimmerman, all of Litchfield, Frances Roth of Jerseyville, Esther McCutcheon of Red Bud; seven grandchildren, Janet Pruitt and husband Gary, David Schneider, Brad Schneider, all of Litchfield, Sue Miller and husband Terry of Hillsboro, Steve Bandy of Dyersburg, Tenn., Ruth Rhoades and husband Todd of Edwardsville; eight grandchildren, Chad Titsworth, Josh Titsworth, Scott Pruitt, Benjamin Reener, Abby Schneider, Gregory BAndy, Caleb Rhoades and Leah BAndy; and one great great grandson, Jacob Titsworth. Services for Thelma Bernita Bandy, of Litchfield, wree held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church of Litchfield. The Rev. Gary Allen officiated. Burial was in Cedar Ridge Cemetery. During the service vocalist Shirley Edwards sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." She was accompanied by organist Ruth Holliday. Pallbearers were grandsons, Dan Bandy, Steve Bandy, Gary Pruitt, Todd Rhoads, Brad Schnieder and David Schneider. Following the committal service a lunch was provided for family and friends at the First Baptist Church. Plummer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Bandy, 85, died Wednesday, October 6, in Heritage Manor.

Barbatti, Alfred (Fred)

Alfred "Fred" Barbatti, formerly of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, in Tampa, Fla. He was 86 years on November 12, and a veteran of World War II. Mr. Barbatti was in the restaurant business, having been part owner in The Moonlight Y and The Country Squire in Hillsboro. He first got into the restaurant business in the late 1940s when he and a brother, Dominic, jointly operated one in the red brick building now known as The Squire. In 1954, the two purchased the Moonlight Y across the highway and worked together until 1963 when they split up as partners. Fred Barbatti then went back across the road to purchase the restaurant again, operating it with Jim Hilt and naming it The Country Squire after a race horse owned by Hilt. Fred Barbatti and his wife Mary operated the restaurant until the family business was sold in 1996. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Warner; a daughter, Cathy Mastrolia of Tampa; a sister, Dema Ghini of Michigan; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Erica. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Barker, Donald L.

Donald L. Barker, who has relatives in the Nokomis area, died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, in Mt. Carmel Medical Center, Grove City, Ohio. He was 65 years old on June 21. Mr. Barker, of Washington Court House, Ohio, was born in Illinois, a son of Myrvle A. and Mary McCaslin Barker. His wife, Beverly, survives. Surviving also are a son, Bradley Barker of Grove City; daughters, Myra Morris, Karen Wysong and Donwnea Hurley, all of Ohio; brothers, Lloyd Barker of Ringwood, Myrvle and Ralph Barker of Nokomis; sisters, Nadine Beaman of Wonder Lake, Lydia Kettlekamp and Viola Frazier of Nokomis; 11 grandchildren and two step grandchildren. Services were held in Grove City, Ohio, with burial in Alton Cemetery there.

Barker, Norah Alice

Services for Norah Alice Barker, of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Dale United Methodist Church with burial in Digby Hill Cemetery at Dale. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Gholson Funeral Home, McLeansboro. Mrs. Barker died at 3:18 this morning, Friday, March 19, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. She was 93 years old last April 5. She was a store manager for The Salvation Army from 1954 until her retirement in 1971. She managed stores in Chicago, Springfield, Decatur, Indianapolis, Ind., and St. Louis. Upon her retirement in 1971, she made her home in Litchfield. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dale and a member of the Ruthean Class and Martha Circle at St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Litchfield. She was born in Dale, a daughter of John Wesley and Edith Jennings Tucker. She married Loomis McKinley Barker on January 2, 1929, in McLeansboro; he died November 25, 1946. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara C. Tolley and husband Bill of Litchfield; brother, Oscar W. Tucker of McLeansboro; grandchildren, Carolyn Nimmons and husband Howard of Florissant, Mo., Loralea Liss and husband David, Teresa Hocking and husband John, all of Champaign; great grandchildren, Joseph Nimmons of St. Louis, Matthew Nimmons of Columbia, Mo., Lauren and Elise Hocking of Champaign. Preceding her in death were brothers, Carl D., John W., James T., R. Challey and William D. Tucker; and sisters, Georgia E. Hunt, Deborah A. Beachum and Frankie Jo Tucker.

Barnabe, Susan

Services for Susan Barnabe, of Gillespie, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Kravanya Funeral Home there with the Rev. Dennis Hill officiating. Burial will be in Gillespie City Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to Adopt A Pet. Mrs. Barnabe died at 2:45 a.m. Monday, March 22, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 83 years old on June 16. She was born in Illinois, a daughter of John and Susan Lambie McKechan. Her husband Quinto Barnabe died September 29, 1979. Surviving are a sister, Janet Quinn of Chiefland, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were sisters, Ann Easton, Agnes Knopp and brothers, Robert, James and John McKechan.

Barnes, Leroy

Services for Leroy Barnes, of Butler, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hough Funeral Home, Raymond, with the Rev. James Howie officiating. Burial will be in Morrisonville City Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Butler Union Church or to Diabetes. Mr. Barnes died at 8:40 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 82 years old on June 24. He was a farmer before he retired and also worked at the LaClede Steel Mill for 15 years. He was a member of the Butler Union Church and the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. He was born in Farmersville, a son of Irvin and Mary Weffenstette Barnes. He married Helen Ring on March 1, 1941, in Nokomis. She survives. Surviving also are a son, John Barnes and wife Elizabeth of reading, Mass.; daughter, Glenda Williams and husband Richard of Springfield; brother, Harlan Barnes of Trinity Center, Calif.; grandchildren, Rebecca Baugh and Eugene Slightom; and four great granddaughters. Preceding her in death were a brother, Bryce Barnes; sister, Mildred Manning and two granddaughters.

Baron, Virginia B.

Graveside service for Esther Virginia Baron, of Taylor Springs, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Cress Hill Cemetery, rural Hillsboro. The Rev. Father Dave Schmidt, pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, will officiate. Bass Funeral Home, Hillsboro, is in charge of arrangements. The family requests memorials be directed to St. Agnes Catholic Church. Mrs. Baron died at 11:36 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 1999, in Montgomery Health Care Center. She would have been 81 years old on May 27. She was a resident of Taylor Springs for most of her life and worked as a nurse at Hillsboro Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of St. Agnes Church. She was born in Tovey, a daughter of Ransey F. and Minnie E. Laramore Payne. She married George L. Baron, Sr., on February 14, 1935, in Hillsboro; they were later divorced. Surviving are sons, George L. "Jack" Baron Jr. and wife Bonnie of Taylor Springs, Robert Baron of Florida; daughter, Sue Reece and husband Ryan of Columbus; a sister, Daisy Josephine Ondrey of Morton; 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were brothers, Charles H., Hugh Orville and Harvey Johnson Payne and a sister, Stella Mae Chumley.

Barr, Doris E.

Services for Doris E. Barr, of Worden, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Staunton, with the Rev. Richard Feyen officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Sorento. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Williamson Funeral Home, Worden. The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Mrs. Barr died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 1999, in Rosewood Care Center, Edwardsville. She was 71 years old on April 21. She was a bus driver in the Worden school district, member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Staunton and the Order of the Eastern Star in Sorento. She was born in Old Ripley, a daughter of Earl J. and Lillian G. Enloe Dauderman. She married Charles E. Barr on June 30, 1946, in Green ville. He died November 1, 1989. Surviving are daughters, Malia Noel and husband Lee of Glen Carbon, Darlene Barr of Wilmington; a brother, Charles Dauderman and wife Susie of Rockford; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Others surviving include a friend, Herman Schuette of Staunton. A son, Earl Barr, preceded her in death.

Barr, Lois W.

Services for Lois W. Barr, formerly of the Honey Bend area, were held this morning in Barton Baptist Church, Barton, Ark. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, West Helena, Ark. Mrs. Barr, of Memphis, Tenn. died Friday, August 7, 1998, in Baptist Memorial Medical Center in North Little Rock, Ark. She was 85 years old on August 1. She formerly resided in Barton, Ark., where she was employed as a secretary in the Barton School District. Before that was employed as a house mother at the Baptist Children's Home in Monticello, Ark., and at the Methodist Children's Home in Texas. She was born in Honey Bend, a daughter of Willis Dale and Lottie Sanders Watkins. Her husband, Fredrick E. Barr of Barton, preceded her in death. Surviving are sons, Jesse Barr of Winslow, Ark., Joel Barr of Concho, Ariz.; daughters, Janette Rhoderick of Rio Rancho, N.M., Judith Rosenthal of Hot Springs Village, Ark., Lynda Langford of Little Rock, Ark., Katie Henderson of Nashua, N.H., Nita Turner of Lexa, Ark.; 10 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a son, Navy Commander John Fredrick Barr, who last resided in Houston, Texas. Roller Citizens Funeral Home of West Memphis, Ark., was in charge of arrangements.

Barrows, L. David

L. David Barrows, of Morrisonville, died Monday, June 1, 1998, in Pana Hospital. He was 83 years old on February 24, and before he retired worked as an electrician. He was born in Sandwich, a son of David and Jessie Mitchell Barrows. He married Gertrude Newberry on May 17, 1941, in CAnton, Mo. She died April 2, 1993. Surviving are a son, David Barrows of Pana; daughters, Jessie Pulley of Taylorville, Dorothy Luchtefeld of Belleville, Marilyn Skinner of Morrisonville; a brother, James Burrows of Moline; 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A daughter and a sister preceded him in death. Services were held this afternoon in Morrisonville with burial in Morrisonville Cemetery.

Bates, Mary Lou

Services for Mary Lou Bates, of Taylorville, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First United Methodist Church there with the Revs. Randal Perry and Kent Lolling officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call today in Hough Funeral Home, Raymond from 4 to 8 p.m. or on Tuesday in the church from noon until the time of service. Mrs. Bates died Saturday, March 6, 1999, in Raymond at the home of her parents. She was 60 years old on February 11. She worked for the Christian County Mental Health Department for several years before retiring in 1998. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Taylorville. She was born in Taylorville, a daughter of Kenneth and Beatrice Entsminger Smith, and married John Bates on August 1, 1965, in Raymond. Surviving are her husband, John; daughter, Lorri Bates of Columbus, Ohio; parents, Kenneth and Beatrice Smith of Raymond; a brother, Robert Smith of Raymond; a sister, Ruth Ann Driskell of Taylorville.

Batty, Lynn L.

Lynn L. Batty, formerly of Litchfield, died Thursday, January 7, 1999, in his home at Bayonet Point, Fla. He was 63 years old, and a Navy veteran. He had resided in Bayonet Point since 1985, having moved there from St. Louis. He was a retired insurance agent for Benco Insurance Planners. He was born in Litchfield. Surviving are brothers, Wayne Batty of Litchfield, Dean Batty of Florissant, Mo.; and a sister, Dorothy Barros of Bayonet Point. In the obituary of Lynn Batty, the sister's name should have read Dorothy Barrow of Bayonet Point, Fla. Memorial service for Lynn L. Batty was held Saturday at graveside in Elmwood Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Allen, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Mr. Batty, son of Lester and Maude Batty died January 7, 1999, in Hudson, Fla. He was 63 years old on October 14, and a graduate of Litchfield High School with the class of 1953. Survivors include brothers, Wayne Batty and wife Audrey of Ltichfield, Dean Batty and wife Marilyn of Florissant, Mo.; and a sister, Dorothy Barrow and husband S.E. Barrow, of Hudson, along with several nieces and nephews.

Bauer, Thomas Arthur

Services for Thomas Arthur Bauer, of Gillespie, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the United Methodist Church there with the Rev. Dennis Hill officiating. Burial will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie. Mr. Bauer died Thursday, November 5, 1998, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 45 years old on October 24. He was a district sales manager for Morgen Manufacturing, a maker of construction equipment in South Dakota. He was born in Litchfield, a son of John H. and Anna Niebrand Bauer. Surviving are sons, Thomas Gary, Bradley Aaron and Kyle Mathew Bauer and daughters, Melanie Marie and Beth Ann Bauer, all of Gillespie; the children's mother, Evelyn Ahrens Bauer of Gillespie; brothers, Gary Bauer of Gillespie, John Bauer of Bunker Hill; sister, Helen Day of Bunker Hill. Preceding him in death was a son, Matthew Thomas Bauer.

Baugh, Goldie F.

Services for Goldie F. Baugh, of Gillespie, were held at 3 p.m. today in Kravanya Funeral Home there. Burial was in Peaceful Valley Cemetery at Odin. Mrs. Baugh died at 2:50 p.m. Friday, May 14, 1999, in Heritage Manor of Gillespie. She would have been 92 years old on June 24. She was a lifelong resident of Gillespie and a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was born in Green e County, a daughter of John L. and Myrtle Slightom Jouett. She married Ralph W. Baugh on September 6, 1926 in Hillsboro. He died June 28, 1979. Surviving are sons, Larry W. Baugh and wife Shirley of Litchfield, Roy W. Baugh of Bunker Hill; brothers, Thurman Jouett of Wood River, John Jouett and wife Doris of Green field; a sister, Erma Freer of Bethalto; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a brother, Leslie Jouett; sister, Opal Jouett Van Doren and a grandson, Randall Baugh.

Baugher, Margaret G.

Funeral arrangements for Margaret G. Baugher, of Hillsboro, are pending at Bass Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Mrs. Baugher, 84, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, December 21, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was a seamstress at Heslov's in Hillsboro for many years. Funeral Mass for Margaret G. Baugher, of Hillsboro, will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Agnes Catholic Church there by the Rev. Father David Schmidt. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Bass Funeral Home. Prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Hillsboro Hospital Edward and Margaret Baugher All Employees Fund or the Hillsboro Public Library. Mrs. Baugher died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, December 20, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 84 years old on February 26. She was a lifeŠlong resident of Hillsboro and worked as a seamstress for Heslov's in Hillsboro for many years. She was a member of St. Agnes Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Vonderlack Murphy. She married Richard Edward Baugher on August 3, 1935, in Hillsboro. He died in 1984. Surviving are daughters, Patricia Lynch and husband Louis, Myrna Neely and husband Walter, Linda Young and husband Gerald, Jane Blackburn and husband Bob, all of Hillsboro, and Sally Cleaver and husband James of Springfield; 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were four brothers and three sisters.

Bauman, Leona M.

Services for Leona M. Bauman, of Nokomis, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church there with the Rev. Bert Eickhoff officiating. Burial will be in Ohlman Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Stiehl - Dawson Funeral Home, Nokomis. Mrs. Bauman died at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 1999, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 77 years old on January 22. She was a bookkeeper before she retired, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was born in Nokomis, a daughter of William and Ollie Janssen Johnson. She married LaVerne L. Bauman on April 4, 1949. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Larry Bauman and wife Carol of Santa Anna, Calif.; a sister, Freda Perkins of Tuscon, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.
