Ralph James Thomas
Ralph James Thomas, 86 , of Quincy and formerly of Dekalb died Tuesday July 18, 2000 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
He was born February 23, 1914 in Holland, Kentucky the son of Bradford B. and Amy Deckard Thomas. He married Iva Blanche Walters August 19, 1939 in Jacksonville and she preceded him in death. He married DiAnne Estelle Mathre Johnson April 8, 1972 in Dekalb and she survives.
Also surviving is a son Philip Johnson (wife Irma) of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, 3 daughters Cynthia Cornish of Eustis, Florida, Karen Herman( husband David) of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Julia Myers (husband David) of Catonsville Manor, Maryland, 6 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. A sister Cleopa Shipp (husband Samuel) of Waverly.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his stepmother Era Thomas, his first wife and a sister Addie Lee Blankenship.
Private burial services will be held in the Waverly East Cemetery.
Memorial may be given to the Ralph J. Thomas Scholarship through Northern Illinois University Foundation or to the 1st United Methodist Church in Dekalb.

Mrs. Jeanne Tiemann
Jeanne Tiemann, age 68, of South Jacksonville, was taken by the angels on Saturday morning, July 29, 2000 at her residence. She was born on June 8, 1932 in Jerseyville, the daughter of Frank T. and Margaret Mary Baker Rex. She married Byron Tiemann on May 3, 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beardstown and he preceded her in death on July 30, 1983.
She is survived by one daughter: Sheila (husband, Kenny) Huey of Arenzville; two sons, Mark (wife Monica) Tiemann of Jacksonville and Brett (wife, Joann) Tiemann of Springfield; eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son: Gregg Tiemann.
Mrs. Tiemann was Valedictorian of White Hall Class of 1950 and a member of St. Paul/s Lutheran Church near Chapin with burial at Grace Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Monday at Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Illinois, Jacksonville Branch.

Glenn A. Tippy
Glenn A. Tippy, 88, of Jacksonville died Monday morning, October 23, 2000 at Prairie Village Health Care Center in Jacksonville. He was born on February 29, 1912 in Williamson County the son of James W. and Susie Kelly Tippy. He married Eula M. Johnson in Carbon Hill, Alabama and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on January 14th of this year.
He is survived by two sons, Charles (wife, Dee) Tippy of Springfield and Ronald Lee (wife, Regina) Tippy of Rochelle; one daughter, Glennis (husband, Randy) Reynolds of Murrayville; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one brother, Earl Kelly of Marion. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James Lawrence Tippy and Raymond Lester Tippy, and his twin brother in infancy.
Mr. Tippy had farmed in southern Illinois and in the Jacksonville area. He later worked for the Morgan County Highway Department, retiring in the late 1970’s. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church and enjoyed attending church, reading the bible, and gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Jacksonville East Cemetery. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to Faith Tabernacle Church.

Mr. Volney W. "Pete" Tipsword
Volney W. “Pete” Tipsword, age 85, of Modern Care Convalescent Center in Jacksonville, Ill. and formerly of Griggsville, Ill. died early Saturday morning (May 20, 2000) at the center.
He was born August 11, 1914 in Gillespie, Illinois son of the late Charles William and Ruby Gladys Hartman Tipsword.
He married Vera Galloway on March 24, 1935 in Pittsfield, Illinois and she preceded him in death 1947.
Surviving are two daughters, Mari Ann Griswold and Mrs. Tom (Irma Jean) Holmes both of Jacksonville, Ill.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ruby Murphy of Taylorville, Ill., Norma Kimble of Waseka, Ill., Bessie Hobson of Versailles, Ill., and Mardell Tipsword of Gillespie, Ill.; one brother, Edward Tipsword of Reddick, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters, Eva Henderson and Cora VanHyning; and three brothers, Floyd, Marvin “Red”, and Arthur Tipsword.
Mr. Tipsword worked for U & L Grain Co. in New Berlin, Ill. and was a janitor in the New Berlin school system until his retirement. He later worked for the Richard and Ronald Myers farms as well as Ackels & Schaefer Orchards in Griggsville, Ill. He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt, fish, and work in his garden.
Funeral services for Volney W. “Pete” Tipsword were
held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday (May 23, 2000) at the
Skinner-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Griggsville,
Ill. with Bro. Jim Cloe officiating. Pallbearers were
Yancey Tone, Adam Freehill, Marvin DeJaynes, Mark
Bush, and grandsons, Norman Griswold and Mike
Griswold. Burial was in Griggsville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Mr. Charles Tucker
Charles David Tucker, age 86, of Pittsfield, Ill. died 2:30 a.m. Monday (Dec. 11, 2000) at the Pittsfield HealthCare Center in Pittsfield, Ill..
He was born April 17, 1914 in Pittsfield, Ill. son of the late Charles D. and Elizabeth Ryan Tucker.
He married Mary Thornton in 1942 and she preceded him in death in 1994. He later married Frances Seybold Carroll on July 31, 1997 in Pittsfield, Ill. and she survives.
Also surviving are four sisters, Virginia Hoos of Englewood, Colorado, Beth Caughlan of Pittsfield, Ill., Mrs. Paul (Gertrude) Waag of Madera, Calf., Mrs. Howard (Alice Lee) Hayes of Marengo, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; and three brothers, Mack Tucker, Joe Tucker, Don Tucker.
Mr. Tucker was a salesman for Morton Buildings for many years. He was a member of the Pittsfield United Methodist Church and a past member of the Pittsfield Moose Lodge and owned and operated Tuckers Dam Bait and Tackle Shop at Mark Twain Lake, Mo. for many years.
Cremation rites were accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Pike Co. Visiting Nurses c/o the funeral home. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. is in charge of arrangements.

Marlin Dale Tuey
Marlin D. Tuey, 65, of Carrollton was pronounced dead at Boyd Memorial
Hospital Emergency Rm. on Sunday afternoon Nov. 5, 2000 unexpectedly.
Born in Carrollton on August 2, 1935 he was the son of the late Charles
W. and Adah L. Rogers Tuey.
Surviving him are his daughter and son-in-law: Marsha and Lewis Nance
of Brighton, his dear friend and companion: Carol Wood, 3 grandchildren:
Courtney Cooley, Lyndsay Nance and Shane Nance, 1 great grandchild:
Claire Cooley and a sister Maxine Mohr of Carrollton. Several nieces and a
nephew also survive.
He was preceded in death by his former wife the late Judith Walkington
and a brother Charles Tuey Jr.
Mr. Tuey had been parts manager for Simpson Motor Co. for many
years in Carrollton, worked many years at Ace Hardware in Jacksonville and
most recently at Target Stores. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and long time member of the Stuart Pierson Masonic Lodge in Carrollton.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Wednesday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton. Services will be held at the funeral home on
Thursday at 11 A.M. with burial in the Carrollton City Cemetery. Memorials
are mentioned to the American Diabetes Assn.

Mrs. Trela LaVaerne Turner
Trela Laverne Turner, 96, of Waverly, died Saturday, October 7, at Golden Senior Care in Chatham. She was born on October 16, 1903 in Scottville, the daughter of James Harley and Viola Jackson Hayes. She married Arthur C. Turner on August 3, 1926, in Scottville, and he preceded her in death on November 30, 1994.
She is survived by two sons: Lyndell (wife, Joyce) of Rockbridge, and Harlan (wife, June) of Creve Coeur, Missouri; one daughter, Eloise (husband, Gordon) Hankins of Waverly; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harley and Lawrence Hayes.
Mrs. Turner was a member of the Waverly First Baptist Church and a past church clerk for several years. She was also a member of the Modesto Household Science Club, a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Palmyra Chapter 453, and the Past Matrons’ Club. She graduated from Scottville High Scholl and then attended Bloomington Teachers College. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught in the 1920s at Berean School in Macoupin.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Waverly, with burial at Pulliam Cemetery in Modesto. The family will meet friends from at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Waverly or the Waverly Rescue Squad.

William Albert Turner
William Albert Turner, 76, of Palmyra died Sunday morning, October 22, 2000 at his residence. He was born October 19, 1924 in Franklin, the son of Howard and Hallie Hartsook Turner.
He is survived by two sisters, Ilene (husband, Delbert) Mansfield of Pekin and Ollie (husband, Leroy) Laycock of Carlinville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester W. and Ernest H.
Mr. Turner was a retired farmer, having farmed in Macoupin County most of his life. He was a member of Gilead Baptist Church in Hettick.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra. The family will receive friends from noon until time of service Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to Northwestern Rescue Squad.

Mr. Edward C. "Johnny" Turner
Edward C. “Johnny” Turner, age 73, of Roodhouse, Ill. died Thursday evening (June 22, 2000) at the White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall, Illinois.
He was born July 10, 1926 in Winchester, Ill. son of the late Roy and Lizzy Reining Turner.
He married Mary Taylor on July 23, 1976 in White Hall, Illinois and she survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Diane Baker and husband Richard of Roodhouse, Il.; two sons, Lewis Turner and wife Debbie of Saint Augustine, Ill. and Lester Turner and wife Karen of Winchester, Ill.; three step-daughters, Doris Lindsey and husband Steve of Petersburg, Ill., Amy Barger of Kansas City, Mo., and Terri Gulon of California; one step-son, Dean Taylor and wife Ruby of Camp Point, Ill.; fifteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Irma Rider of Winchester, Il.; one brother, Martin Turner and wife Frances of Winchester, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Ellen Evans, Claudine Williams, Ruby Hart, and Annadel Moore; and one brother, Randall Turner.
Mr. Turner was an Army veteran of WW II serving in Okinawa, Japan. He was a former mechanic for Taylor Motor Company in Winchester for 24 years and recently was employed by the Maintenance Department for the city of Roodhouse, Ill.. He enjoyed watching Westerns on television.
Funeral services will be held 11 am. Monday (June 26, 2000) at the Coonrod-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Winchester, Ill. with Rev. Paul Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Winchester City Cemetery where graveside military rites will be preformed by Julian Wells American Legion Post #442. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m.. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Blessing Hospice of Green e County.

Mrs. Mary Ann Uder (Green walt)
Mary Ann Uder, 96, of Palmyra, formerly of Carlinville, died on Friday, January 5, 2001 in her home in Palmyra. She was born on September 15, 1904 in Carlinville, Illinois, a daughter of Frank and Ella Watt Green walt. She married Charles O. Uder on July 4, 1933 and he preceded her in death in February 14, 1981.
Surviving Mrs. Uder are one son: Donald “Gene” (wife, Nancy) Uder of Brighton; two daughters: Wilma Steidley, of Peoria; Kathy (husband, Tom) Stults of Palmyra; one brother, Walter Green walt of Springfield; one sister, Ruth Barrow of Metamora, IL; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren, and four step great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Oren Green walt, and Harry Green walt, and one sister, Edith Green walt.
She was a homemaker and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2001 at the Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra. Memorials are suggested to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville.

Mrs. Lydia Lucille Vance (Miller)
Lydia Lucille Vance, 92, of Palmyra, died Saturday, February 10, 2001 in Doctor’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born on June 30, 1908 in Girard, a daughter of Solomon Dempsey and Mary Elizabeth Myers Miller. She married Kirwan Ralph Vance in Carlinville on August 24, 1929, and he preceded her in death on February 14, 1986.
Surviving Mrs. Vance are four sons: Donald (wife, Mildred) of Shebyville, Il; Norman (wife, Janie) of Palmyra; Coy (wife, Brenda) of Santa Monica, California; Kenneth (wife, Carol) of Springfield; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Coy Miller; two sisters; Essie Sample and Golda Vance; and three grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of Palmyra First Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at the Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra. The family will receive friends on Monday at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra. Memorials are suggested to Northwestern Rescue Squad or Palmyra First Baptist Church.

Barbara Ann Vandersand
Barbara Ann Vandersand, 49,of Carrollton was pronounced dead at
10:07 P.M. on Tuesday August 15, 2000 at her residence.
Born in Carrollton on March 20, 1951 she was the daughter of the late
William and Petronilla Zipprich Vandersand.
She is survived by 2 sisters: Mrs. Charles “Mary Helen” Edwards of White
Hall and Mrs. William “Joan” Tuey of Godfrey. 2 brothers: Mr. Jerome
Vandersand of Woodson and Mr. James Vandersand of Burleson, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Barbara was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton.
Visitation will be from 7-8 P.M. on Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church
in Carrollton. Mass will be celebrated at 8 P.M. that evening. Private
committal rites will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St.
John’s Church or a charity of one’s choice. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in
Carrollton is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Francis Varble
Rev. Francis M. Varble, 90,of Carrollton went to be with his Lord and
Saviour on Tuesday July 11, 2000 at 12:15 P.M. at Boyd Memorial Hospital
in Carrollton.
Born in Gillespie on Sept. 27, 1909 he was the son of the late Francis
“Frank” and Nettie Stevens Varble.
On June 6, 1934 he married the former Opal Emery in Alton and she
survives.
Also surviving are 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Wanda and Louie
Hartwick of Jerseyville and Jacqueline and Ned Wells of Bethalto, 2 sons and
daughters-in-law: Don and Carolyn Varble of Roland, Oklahoma and Larry
and Mary Ellen Varble of Carrollton. There are 10 grand and 11 great
grandchildren surviving.
He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Varble and 2 sisters:
Minerva Ashford and Clara Eads.
Rev. Varble had been in the ministery for 48 years beginning in 1942 at
Fayette, continuing was instrumental in the founding of the Faith Baptist
Church in Carrollton. He later held the pulpit in Fieldon , Versailles and
White Hall. He was a humble man of God and will be sadly missed.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Thursday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton. Services will be held on Friday at the Faith
Baptist Church in Carrollton at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in the
Carrollton City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Faith Baptist
Church or the Baptist Childrens’ Home in Carmi.
