John Chapman
John Chapman, 97, of White Hall died at 9:10 P.M. on Sat. Sept. 8, 2001 at
Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Born in Walkerville on May 7, 1904 he was the son of the late Willis and
Addie McClellen Chapman.
In 1927 he married Goldie Meyer and she preceded him in death in 1985.
Surviving are : 3 daughters: Faye Brown of Bunker Hill, Grace Payne of
Piedmont, Ky. and Jean Kincaid of Shipman, 5 sons: Thurman “Doc”
Chapman of Hettick, Leonard Chapman of Shipman, George Chapman of
Batchtown, Robert Chapman of Dorcester and Joe Chapman of Carrollton,
several grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren survive, 1 sister:
Ethel Jackson of Clinton, Ky. and 2 brothers: Willis and Virgil Chapman.
Mr. Chapman worked for many years at Olin Corp. in Alton retiring in
1969.
Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. on Monday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton where services will be held on Tuesday at 10
A.M. with burial to follow in Eldred Memorial Gardens Cemetery near
Eldred. Memorials are to a charity of one’s choice.

Mr. Dick Chapman
Dick Chapman, age 81, of Griggsville, Ill. died Saturday morning (April 7, 2001) at his residence.
He was born February 21, 1920 in Griggsville, Ill. son of the late J.M. “Mort” and Helen Elledge Chapman King.
He married Rosalee Collins on November 18, 1944 in Pittsfield, Ill. and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Cindy) White, Mrs. Terry (Lois) Potter and Mrs. Rick (Penny) Tedrow all of Griggsville, Ill.; one son, Jim Chapman and wife Juanita of Griggsville, Ill.; six grandchildren, Mrs. Tony (Patricia) Sidwell of Griggsville, Ill., Teresa Potter of Quincy, Ill., Lee Ann White of Littleton, Colorado, Casey White and Todd and Tyler Tedrow all of Griggsville, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Josh Sidwell of Griggsville, Ill.; and several nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Paul Richard “Duke” Chapman; and one brother, Fay Chapman.
Mr. Chapman farmed south of Griggsville for many years and was employed by Griggsville Park District as caretaker for eighteen years retiring in 1999. He had also worked for McConnell Trucking of Milton, Ill. for five years. He enjoyed woodworking, and vegetable and flower gardening.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday (April 10, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. Dennis Will officiating. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Griggsville Fire Department, Pike County Hospice, or Griggsville Park District.

Mrs. Dorothy L Chappell (Browsie)
Dorothy L. Chappell, 73, of South Jacksonville died Tuesday evening, April 10, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born September 30, 1927 in Rockport, Illinois the daughter of Adam and Elizabeth Tedrow Brosie. She married Carl E. Chappell on November 30, 1947 in Pittsfield and he preceded her in death on February 5, 1993.
She is survived by four sons, Michael (wife, Mary) Chappell of Lawrence, Kansas, Gary (wife, Sandy) Chappell of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Dennis Chappell of Murrayville and Randy (wife, Crystal) Chappell of South Jacksonville: 6 grandchildren and one sister, Ermadel Capps of Pittsfield.
Mrs. Chappell was a telephone operator for GTE for many years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Jacksonville and the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, played bridge and bunco, and enjoyed working in her yard and spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. Friends may call after noon on Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or the South Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Squad.

Mr. Cecil Edward "Kicky" Charlesworth
Cecil Edward “Kicky” Charlesworth, 85,of rural Arenzville died early Monday morning, February 26, 2001 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on April 1, 1915 in rural Morgan County the son of Joseph Edward and Alice Margaret Vallery Charlesworth. He married Norma Farmer on February 14, 1947 in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Pam (husband, Steve) Ginder of rural Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Chris and Chad Ginder of Jacksonville, Vallery Charlesworth of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Aaron Charlesworth of rural Chapin; and one sister, Thelma Ginder of rural Arenzville. He was preceded in death by one son, Bruce Edward Charlesworth, (surviving wife Connie of rural Chapin.)
Mr. Charlesworth is also survived by five half-sisters, Peggy Badgley of Cobina, California, Ruby Jean Burnham of Issaquah, Washington, Nancy Charlesworth of San Dimas, California, Mary Charlesworth of Sun City, Arizona, and Iris Cleland of Lakeside, California. He was preceded in death by one half-brother, Gerald Edward Charlesworth.
Mr. Charlesworth farmed in the Arenzville-Concord Community his entire life. He entered the United States Army on June 6, 1941 in Beardstown and was sent to California where he served in the 155th Heavy Field Artillery Instrument and Survey Section. He was injured while in California and entered Kennedy General Hospital at Memphis, Tennessee on September 9, 1943 and was honorably discharged from there on February 15, 1944.
Mr. Charlesworth was a member of American Legion Post 604 at Arenzville for over 50 years, and attended Liter Baptist Church in Literberry. He enjoyed baseball, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved his grandchildren most of all.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Arcadia Cemetery at Arcadia. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Liter Baptist Church.

Mr. John E. Chaudoin
John E. Chaudoin, 54, of Jacksonville died Monday morning, September 24, 2001 at his residence. He was born on March 8, 1947 in Jacksonville the son of Otis L. and Mary Elizabeth Walters Chaudoin.
He is survived by two sisters, Carol F. Chaudoin of Jacksonville and Teresa A. Surratt of Meredosia; one brother, Lenny (wife, Janet) Chaudoin of New Berlin; two nephews and five nieces.
Mr. Chaudoin graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1965 and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He served in the United States Army in Korea during the Vietnam War. Mr. Chaudoin was an accountant with the State of Illinois-Division of Child Support Enforcement, and had previously been employed with Southern Illinois University.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Heart Fund.

Mr. Ervin C. Childers
Ervin Cordell Childers, 68, of South Jacksonville died of natural causes Friday afternoon, October 12, 2001 at his residence. He was born on December 26, 1932 in Winchester the son of James Franklin and Emma Jane Angelo Childers. He married Lois Brannan on January 6, 1957 at the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Carrollton and she survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Renee Lynne (husband, Jay) Meado of Alexander; one son, Timothy Craig Childers of Jacksonville; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Childers was preceded in death by three sisters, Flora Pullings, Rosa Hickok, and Edna in infancy; and two infant brothers, Bertie and Chester.
Mr. Childers graduated from Winchester High School on May 28, 1952 and entered the United States Army on February 17, 1953, just after the end of the Korean War. He served in the Army until his discharge on September 13, 1957. Following his discharge, he worked at Anderson-Clayton in Jacksonville for nine years and the Jacksonville Post Office for five years. Mr. Childers entered the Air National Guard in Springfield on August 1, 1961 and retired from there on December 31, 1989.
Mr. Childers held lifetime memberships in VFW Post #1379, Amvets Post #100, and Moose Lodge #865, all in Jacksonville, and American Legion Post #442 in Winchester.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 15, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. Friends may call after 12 Noon on Sunday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to VFW Post #1379, Amvets Post #100, Moose Lodge #865, all in Jacksonville; or American Legion Post #442 in Winchester.

Nina N. Clanton
Nina N. Clanton, 85, of Alsey passed away Tuesday morning (May 8, 2001) at her home.
She was born July 7, 1915 in Naples the daughter of the late James A. Jr. and Gladys Lawson Northcutt.
She married James Ernest Clanton July 8, 1933 in Pittsfield.
He preceded her in death October 26, 1971. Also preceding her in death was a son Dennis Clanton, an infant daughter Alice Marie Clanton, 3 brothers Arthur (surviving wife Louise) Northcutt of Granite City, Guy (surviving wife Tommy) Northcutt of Brighton, and David Northcutt.
Survivors are her children Claudine (husband Glenn) Day of Winchester, Everett Clanton of Hillview, Jean (husband Gary) Buckley of Piedmont, Missouri, Wanda Hardwick of Alsey, Richard (wife Jean) Clanton of Carrollton, Robert (wife Nancy) Clanton of Jacksonville, and Darrell (wife Pixie) Clanton of Hillview. 23 grandchildren 6 step grandchildren 23 great grandchildren, 19 step great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and 4 step great great grandchildren, a sister Norma Jean “Sally” Cummings of Staunton.
Mrs. Clanton attended Alsey schools and was a graduate of Winchester High School. She worked at Our Savior, Holy Cross and Norris Hospitals in Jacksonville for 28 years as a Ward Clerk and Nurse Aid. She loved working in the maternity ward caring for the newborn babies. She was a member of the Alsey Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday (May 12, 2001) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in the Glasgow Cemetery.
Friends may call after 2:00 PM Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM and from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alsey Grade School.

Angela Gale "Sunshine" Clanton
Angela Gale “Sunshine” Clanton, 18 of Arenzville and formerly of Jacksonville died Sunday afternoon, July 15, 2001, near Jacksonville. She was born on December 14, 1982 in Jacksonville the daughter of John and Gina Damm Clanton.
She is survived by her mother, Gina (husband, Tim) Duncan of Arenzville; her father, John (wife, Laura) Clanton of Conroe, Texas; one brother, Chad Clanton at home; paternal grandfather Everett Clanton of Hillview; paternal step-grandparents Bill and Darlene Duncan of Manchester; her boyfriend, Jimmy Peek of Jacksonville, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by maternal grandmother Anna Mae Hardwick and paternal grandmother Doris Clanton.
Ms. Clanton graduated from Jacksonville High School in 2001. She was employed as a waitress at West Kottage Kafe in Jacksonville. She enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with friends, riding four-wheelers, and writing poetry.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Manchester Cemetery in Manchester. Friends may call after noon on Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the Special Olympics.

Mr. Raymond F. Clark
Raymond F. Clark, 67, of Jacksonville died early Monday morning, January 1, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born on March 30, 1933 in Waverly the son of Frank and Mary Alta Nance Clark. He married Sandra Bryant on July 7, 1989 in Las Vegas, Nevada and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Debbie Chambers of Jacksonville and Lori (husband, John) Feld of Versailles; one son, Steve (wife, Rhonda) Clark of North Henderson; one step-son, Jason R. Bryant of Schaumburg; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; one sister, Pamela (husband, Virgil) Wallis of White Hall; four brothers, Lawrence (wife, Mildred) Clark of Barnett, Missouri, Russell (wife, Mary) Clark of Jacksonville, Willie (wife, Nancy) Clark of Covington, Georgia, and Willis (wife, Elaine) Clark of Stover, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Florence M. Martin.
Mr. Clark had been a maintenance supervisor at Mobil Chemical, retiring in 1992 after 35 years of employment. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1952 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Jacksonville.
Private services will be held. Memorials are suggested to the Cardiac Unit at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James Patrick Clayburg
James Patrick Clayburg, 41, of Miami, Oklahoma, died on Thursday, February 15, 2001, at the Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami, after an extended illness.
He was born on September 28, 1959, in Peoria, the son of Williamo Henry and Elsie Irene Lee Clayburg. He married Crystal Perronteau on February 20, 1994 in Pekin and she survives.
He is also survived by his father and stepmother, William and Mary Clayburg of Pekin; his mother, Elsie Irene Lee of Jonesboro, Arkansas; four daughters: Tonya of Orange, Texas; Amanda of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; and Jennifer and Jessica of Miami, Oklahoma; a son, Marcello Salazar of Pittsburg, Kansas; two brothers: William Edward of Hanford, California and Jerry Robert of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Debra Ann Works ands Pamela Diane Aldrich, both of St. Louis, Missouri and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Marilyn Linton and Neda Schmitz.
Mr. Clayburg was a disabled veteran serving in the United States Navy aboard the USS John F. Kennedy. He was a member of the Soccer Boosters in Miami; and the D.A.V. in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He worked as a volunteer at the Roosevelt Elementary School and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miami. He has lived in the Miami area since 1995, after moving from Pekin.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, with burial at Waverly East Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.

Mrs. Ruth N. Coker (Neutzman)
Mrs. Ruth N. Coker, age 84, died on June 8, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia. Mrs. Coker was born in White Hall, Illinois on November 9, 1916, the daughter of Wesley P. and Della Kitchell Neutzman. She married George E. Coker on April 18, 1936 and maintained a home in White Hall until she moved to Athens, Georgia in 1990. Recently, she had moved to Magnolia Estates in Bogart, Georgia.
Mrs. Coker worked at Gregory Laboratories and Affiliated Laboratories, later moving to an administrative support position with Centerre Trust Company in St. Louis, Missouri. Before her retirement in 1982, she was promoted to a trust officer position at Boatman’s Bank. She was active in several community clubs in White Hall and enjoyed all sports activities. She was an avid golfer and loved music and dancing as well as being an avid reader all of her life. Mrs. Coker had served on the Board of the White Hall Public Library.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a brother, Donald Neutzman, of Tacoma, Washington. She is survived by a son, David L. Coker (married to Sharon J. Price ), of Athens, Georgia; a sister, Gladys Roodhouse of Boulder, Colorado; a grandson, Steven D. Coker (married to Linda Groce) of Southlake, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will meet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2001 at Lord and Stephens West, 1211 Jimmy Daniels Road, Athens, Georgia. A Memorial Service will be held in White Hall, Illinois on July 7, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the White hall Public Library, White Hall, Illinois 62092.

Mr. Bill G. Colburn
Bill G. Colburn, 71, of Jacksonville died Wednesday morning, March 21, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born May 3, 1929 in Chandlerville the son of Charles Glenwood and Florence Blair Colburn.
He is survived by one son, Charles (wife, Lynn) Colburn of Jacksonville, one daughter, Linda (husband, Art Tustin) Colburn of St. Louis, Missouri; two grandchildren, and longtime special friend and partner, Jane Hadden of Jacksonville.
Mr. Colburn graduated from Virginia High School, Northwestern University, and Northwestern University Law School in 1952, at which time he entered the United States Air Force, serving as an officer in Korea during the Korean War. Mr. Colburn has been an attorney in Jacksonville since1956. In 1962, Mr. Colburn, with his father, founded Lincoln-Douglas Savings and Loan in Jacksonville. He was President of Cass County Abstract Company, and a member of the Morgan County Bar Association, Jacksonville Elks Club, American Legion Post 279, and V.F.W. Post 1379. He enjoyed many sports, both as a participant and as a spectator, and especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Private funeral services will be held. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Sherwood Eddy Memorial YMCA.

Edith Conrad
Edith Conrad, 75, of Jacksonville died Friday evening, August 10, 2001 at Prairie Village Health Care in Jacksonville. She was born on December 25, 1925 in Terre Haute, Indiana the daughter of George and Clara Scott Conrad.
Ms. Conrad is survived by one niece, Patricia Ellen (husband, Truman) Helmig of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Conrad, and two sisters, Helen Louise Keiser and Mary Conrad.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at Diamond Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends at the graveside following the service. Memorials are suggested to the Church of Christ Deaf Fund. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jaunita Louise Cook (Gabhart)
Jaunita Louise Cook, 83, of Jacksonville died Saturday afternoon, February 17, 2001 at Modern Care Convalescent Facility in Jacksonville. She was born on March 18, 1917 in Jacksonville the daughter of Edgar and Hallie Devine Gabhart.
She is survived by one son, James (wife, Jean) Cook of Jacksonville; two daughters, Jane (husband, Bob) Crowley of Pompano Beach, Florida and Sandra Cook of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; special brother-in-law and caregiver Duane Winter of Franklin; one brother, William (wife, Pat) Gabhart of Jacksonville; and three sisters, Bernice (husband, Carl) Robinson of Jacksonville, June (husband, Glenn) Schone of Chapin, and Bess (husband, Sol) Shurpin of North Miami Beach, Florida. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Chester, Marvin, Vernon, Jim and one infant, and three sisters, Viola Pulse, Mildred Winter, and Elsie Gabhart.
Mrs. Cook was a homemaker and had attended Westfair Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Westfair Christian Academy.

Mr. Wilmot Cooley
Wilmot Cooley, age 76, of Meredosia, Ill. died Friday morning (October 26, 2001) at St. John’s North in Springfield, Ill..
He was born November 7, 1924 in Fishhook, Ill. son of the late Charles A. and Edith Gleckler Cooley.
He married Betty Dougherty on June 12, 1948 in Pittsfield, Ill. and she preceded him in death on September 8, 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Shona Gillette and husband Steven of Rancho Murieta, Calf. And Jonna Cooley of Chatham, Ill.; one son, Todd Cooley and fiancée Ericka Baker of Meredosia, Ill.; three grandchildren, Bret McCartney of Carpentersville, Ill., Tyler Gillette of Oxford, Ohio, Kody Baker of Meredosia, Ill.; one sister, Sarah Kathryn Volbracht of Quincy, Ill.; one brother, Charles O. Cooley of Knoxville, Ill.; several nieces and nephews; and his dog Pookie.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Fern Kucera, Leano Turner; two brothers, Alvin and Marion “Jack” Cooley.
Mr. Cooley was a graduate of Perry High School in Perry, Ill. and was a long time sales representative for Bader Ag. in Meredosia, Ill.. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the Army and a 50-year member of the Perry American Legion Post. He served as a village trustee for the Meredosia village board for several years. He attended the Fishhook United Methodist Church in Fishhook, Ill.. He was an avid vegetable gardener who also enjoyed woodworking.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. with burial in Woodland Cemetery near Fishhook, Ill. with graveside military rites conducted by the Perry American Legion Post #1040. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with family meeting friends from 6-8 p.m.. Memorials may be made to the Woodland Cemetery.

Virginia L. Cordes (Powell)
Virginia L. Cordes, 86, of Carrollton died at 1:08 A.M. on Sunday Feb.
11, 2001 at the Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.
Born on Oct. 8, 1914 near Carrollton, she was the daughter of the late
Benjamin B. and Edith M. Boirum Powell.
On Dec. 17, 1932 she married Frank Cordes in Jerseyville and he
preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1988.
Surviving are 4 daughters: Doris Graham, Mrs. Tom “Mary Lou”
Winters, and Mrs. Joe “JoAnn” Harness all of Carrollton and Mrs. Bob
“Phyllis” Plogger of Carlinville, 2 sons: Bob (wife-Mary) Cordes and Neil
Cordes both of Carrollton. There are 18 grand, 23 Great-grand and 4
great-great grandchildren surviving.
Preceding her in death were: a son Mike Cordes, an infant son Charles
Cordes, a grandson-Carl Graham Jr., 2 brothers: Howard Powell and an
infant Benjamin Powell, a half brother-Buryl Powell and 5 half sisters: Irene
Haney, Hazel Chapman, Neva Fulkerson, Leva Barnett and Lelia English.
Mrs. Cordes was a homemaker and member of the St. John’s Catholic
Church in Carrollton.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Tuesday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday
at 10 A.M at St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton by Fr. Barry Harmon.
Burial will be in the church cemetery and memorials may be made to:
Green e Co. Health Dept., St. John’s Church or the Carrollton Public Library.
