Shirley D. Newnom (Newnom)
Shirley D. Newnom, 63, of Kampsville died at 5:58 P.M. on Wednesday
August 29, 2001 at Calhoun Care Center in Hardin.
Born in Green e Co. on Feb. 14, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Earl
and Margaret Mae Coonrod Newnom.
She is survived by a sister Mrs. Elmer “June” Lehr of Kampsville and
several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Baptist Faith.
Graveside rites will be held on Saturday Sept. 1, 2001 at 11 A.M. at the
Richwoods Cemetery west of Carrollton. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in
Carrollton is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martha June Norfleet (Twyford)
Martha June Norfleet, 70, of Jacksonville died early Friday morning, October 12, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born March 9, 1931 in Jacksonville the daughter of Claud and Florence Winner Twyford. She married Paul Norfleet on February 15, 1953 at Grace United Methodist Church in Jacksonville and he survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Nancy (husband, Robert) Oxley of Jacksonville, two sons, Douglas (fiancée, Lisa Bain) Norfleet of Pleasant Plains and Paul Norfleet of Mt. Vernon, and one granddaughter, Ann. She was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Twyford.
Mrs. Norfleet was a receptionist at the dental office of John Jarzen, D.D.S., and earlier for Howard Corey, D.D.S. She was a member of the Prairie State Orchid Society, Passavant Hospital Auxiliary Board and the Franklin-Alexander School Board. Mrs. Norfleet enjoyed volunteer work at Passavant Hospital and was an avid bridge player.
Private family services will be held. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Alexander Fire Department, the American Heart Association or to the Arthritis Foundation. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Audrey Faye Northrop (Savage)
Audrey Faye Northrop, 87, of Alsey passed away Monday morning at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was born May 30, 1914 near Glasgow the daughter of the late Chester Arthur and Laura Dell Sanders Savage.
She married Howard Edwin Northrop February 5, 1938 in Palmyra, Missouri.
He preceded her in death April 6, 1998. Also preceding her was her parents and a sister Hazel Marie Savage and a brother Clarence Andrew Savage.
Mrs. Northrop attended Glasgow, Alsey and graduated from Winchester High School. She also attended Gem City Business College. She worked as a Secretary for the Alsey Refractory until her marriage. She then worked with her husband on the family farm and was a homemaker until they retired. She was a member of the Alsey Baptist Church.
Survivors include a niece Claudine (husband Harold Lee) Fearneyhough of Liberty, 2 great nephews Paul (wife Debbie) Fearneyhough and Don (wife Dalene) Fearneyhough both of Winchester, a great niece Mary Ann (husband Mark) Corey of San Diego, California. 5 great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday (September 27, 2001) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in Glasgow Cemetery.
Friends may call after 3:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alsey Baptist Church or to the Winchester EMS.

Mrs. Betty Jane Norwick (Nolan)
Betty Jane Nolan Norwick, age 76, of Lowell, Massachusetts,
formerly of White Hall, died early Friday morning, Jan. 26, 2001 at
Glenwood Nursing Home in Lowell, Mass.
She was born April 16, 1924 in White Hall, the daughter of Lee H.
and Nellie Berline Nolan.
She married Vito Norwick in Massachusetts and he preceded her in
death. She was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Betsy Jean
Damrell and an infant brother, Richard Nolan.
Mrs. Norwick graduated from White Hall High School in 1942.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the White
Hall Cemetery. The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall is in
charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Emma Frances O'Donnell (Sullivan)
Emma Frances Sullivan O’Donnell, 101, of Jacksonville and formerly of Waverly, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, in Jacksonville Convalescent Home in Jacksonville.
She was born on April 28, 1899 in Pisgah Township, Morgan County, the daughter of John H. and Carrie Stilwell Sullivan. She married Jack O’Donnell and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. O’Donnell has several surviving relatives. She was retired as a seamstress from J. Capps and Sons in Jacksonville.
Funeral Services will be held at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, with visitation one hour prior to the time of the funeral. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Springfield. Memorials are suggested to Waverly Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Ida Mae Oney (Gross)
Ida Mae Oney, 85, of Alton and formerly of St. Louis, died on Friday afternoon, February 9, 2001 at Eunice C. Smith Nursing Home in Alton. She was born October 29, 1915 in Altus, Oklahoma, the daughter of Edward George and Clara Lydia Schmidt Gross. She married Charles H. Oney on October 14, 1938, and he preceded her in death on February 6, 1993.
She is survived by one daughter, Wanda (husband, David) Tiffany of Jacksonville; two grandsons and their spouses; one great-grand-daughter; two sisters-in-law; two nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Theodore and Walter Gross; one nephew; and an infant daughter.
Mrs. Oney, who lived most of her life in Missouri, had been valedictorian of Wright City High School and an outstanding athlete and musician in her youth. She graduated from Central Wesleyan College in Warrenton, Missouri, with additional course work at what was then Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College in Kirksville, Missouri. She was a teacher in rural schools in Warren and Lincoln Counties in Missouri until her marriage. She later served as a church secretary and newspaper correspondent. She was a life long member of the Methodist Church and served as church musician as long as health permitted. She was past Matron of the Lincoln Chapter 295 of the O.E.S. in Wright City, Missouri.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Union United Methodist Church in Wright City Missouri, with private burial at the Wright City, Missouri Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church of Ferguson, Missouri or the music ministry at the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Henry Osborne
Charles “Henry” Osborne, 83, of Roodhouse died at 8:24 A.M. at his
residence.
Born in Jacksonville on Oct. 17, 1918 he was the son of the late Charlie
and Eva Brown Osborne.
He married the former Velma Lorene Basham on June 26, 1946 in
Carrollton and she survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters: Janice Minor of
Jacksonville, Kathy (husband-Frank) Tucker of Jerseyville, Diana (husband
Aubrey) Wise of Carlinville, 2 sons: Michael (wife Teresa) Osborne of
Roodhouse and Ricky (wife Myra) Osborne of Roodhouse. There are 9
grand, 4 step grand, and 8 great grandchildren. One brother: Leo “Sam”
(wife Doris) Osborne of Roodhouse and 3 sisters: Viola Secymore of Milan,
Iola Basham of Murrayville and Dorothy (husband Sam) Jones of
Manchester. He was preceded in death by 4 bros.: Edward, Kenneth, Harlan
and Harley and 2 sisters: Betty Willis and Donna Steckel.
Henry was a World War II Army veteran where he received a purple heart for
wounds in combat. He was a life member of the Jacksonville American
Legion Post #2079. He also was a member of the White Hall VFW Post. He
had worked at Ruckles Pottery in White Hall, Kordite (now Pactiv) in
Jacksonville, the Rock Island Arsenal for 11 years, MacMurray College, and
retired from self-employment as a carpenter in 1982. He was known for his
bait shop in Roodhouse for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing,
whittling and visiting with his friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Roodhouse with burial in Fernwood Cemetery in
Roodhouse. Friends may call from 6-8 on Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are mentioned to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Eldon R. Owdom
Eldon R. Owdom, 71, of Jacksonville died early Thursday morning, June 21, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born on August 7, 1929 in Patterson the son of Harry and Nona McLane Owdom. He married Shirley Bruce on December 21, 1952 at the Wilmington Church in Patterson and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Mike Owdom of Jacksonville and Mark (wife, Andrea) Owdom of Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter, Michele (husband, Alan) Blake of Murrayville; four grandchildren; one brother, Lyndell (wife, Vivian) Owdom of Peoria and one sister Marilyn (husband, Dr. Robert) McKinney of Springfield. He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Hicks.
Eldon sold Chevrolet Automobiles in Jacksonville for nearly 50 years. He began as a salesman in 1952 with Cornbelt Chevrolet, later John Ellis Chevrolet, on South Main Street, later moving onto Morton Avenue with Jack Schmidt Chevrolet. He had remained at that same location with Green Chevrolet, now Dresing Chevrolet. Mr. Owdom served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a member and Past-Commander of Edward F. Brennan Memorial American Legion Post 279, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1379 and the Jacksonville Elks Lodge. Mr. Owdom enjoyed gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2001 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery at Patterson. The family will meet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Edward F. Brennan Memorial American Legion Post 279.

Mrs. Vivian Owens (Barker)
Vivian Owens, age 93, of Florence, Ill. died Tuesday evening (March 20, 2001) at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill..
She was born April 12, 1907 in near Beardstown, Ill. daughter of the late John and Sophia Deeder Barker.
She married Russell Owens on November 11, 1939 in Baylis, Illinois and he survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Carrol (Susan) Drake of Paris, Ill.; one son, John Owens and wife Betsy of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Wendell (Marjorie) Butler of Ramah, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Jennifer Drake; one sister, Pauline Bennett; and two brothers, Jack and Jerry Barker.
Mrs. Owens was a lamplighter for the U.S. Coast Guard for many years and tended to the lights on the Illinois River until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing and gardening.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday (March 24, 2001) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill.. Burial will be in Baylis Cemetery in Baylis, Illinois. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.. Memorials may be made to Baylis Cemetery.

Beulah Evelyn Owings (Welch)
Beulah Evelyn Owings, 91, of Winchester passed away Wednesday evening (May 16, 2001) at Jacksonville Convalescent Center.
She was born January 30, 1910 near Riggston the daughter of Jesse and Bessie Emmons Welch.
She married David Allison Owings August 19, 1925 in Virginia, IL. He preceded her in death December 26, 1990. Also preceding her in death was a daughter Marlene Scranton, a brother Luther Welch and a sister Bertha Besterfeldt.
Mrs. Owings was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church in Winchester.
Survivors include her children Chester (wife Dora) Owings of Barrow, Mancel Owings of Chesterfield, David Owings Jr. of Jacksonville, Douglas (wife Pat) Owings of Winchester, Frances Hepworth of Winchester, Violet (husband Jesse) Moore of Jacksonville, and Donna (husband Thomas) Michaels of Jacksonville. Also 3 other children she raised in her home 2 granddaughters Christine Raines of Roodhouse, Linda Harris of Winchester and a nephew Donald Besterfeldt of Jacksonville. Other survivors include 27 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren and 2 sisters Margie (husband Mack) Miller of Alton and Marcella (husband Gene) Copeland of Cottage Hills.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday (May 20, 2001) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call after 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:30 PM.

Mrs. Barbara Flynn Parker
Barbara Flynn Parker, 47, of Marietta, Georgia and formerly of Jacksonville, died Sunday morning, September 16, 2001 at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. She was born on September 14, 1954 in Jacksonville the daughter of Gerald and Agnes Flynn. She married Tom Parker and he survives in Marietta.
She is also survived by two daughters, Teri Parker and Laura Parker, both of Marietta; one son, Andy Parker of Milledgeville, Georgia; her parents of Lake St. Louis, Missouri; five brothers, John Flynn and Dan Flynn, both of St. Louis; Jim Flynn of Eugene, Oregon; Robert Flynn of Bloomington, Indiana, and Bill Flynn of Baltimore, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Parker graduated from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa with a degree in computer science. She was a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta where she was active in the choair and perpetual adoration. Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and a volunteer with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts.
A funeral mass for Mrs. Parker will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at the Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2001 at the Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville. Friends may call after noon on Friday at the Williamson Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Transfiguration Catholic Church Building Fund, 1815 Blackwell Road NE, Marietta, Georgia 30066-2911 and may be given at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wanda Gail Parkison (Mercer)
Wanda Gail Mercer Parkison, 48 of Palmyra, died in her home, Monday, May 14, 2001. She was born December 25, 1952 in Whitehall, Illinois, the daughter of Elmer Ray and Eunice Inez Doles Mercer. She married Terry L. Parkison on February 23, 1988 in Springfield, IL. and he survives.
Also surviving are her mother of Palmyra, two sons: Bradley Jo-Del (wife Courtney) Mercer of Girard, IL; James Nance of Palmyra, IL; three daughters, Vanessa Nance of Palmyra, Evelyn Felicia Nance of Palmyra, Victoria Parkison of Palmyra, two stepsons: Terry Joseph(wife Mary) Parkison of South Carolina; Charles Christian Parkison of Springfield, IL,; one stepdaughter: Rebecca Rae (husband Elwood) Jacobs of Sawyerville, IL.; two brothers:Joseph Andrew (wife Tammie) Mercer of Springfield, IL. Dale Edwin (wife Janet) Mercer of Clearwater, Florida; two grandchildren; six step grandchildren; one step greatgranddaughter; eleven nieces; one nephew, one great niece and two great nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, and one brother Floyd Mercer in July of 2000.
She had worked as a cook and as a nurses aide in Joiner Nursing Home, Virden Care Center, and Pleasant Hill Nursing Home in Girard. She was a member of the Holly Baptist Church in Corinth, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2001 in Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Gilead Church Cemetery in Hettick, IL. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Frances Lucille Patrick
Frances Lucille Patrick, 82, of Winchester passed away Friday evening (January 26, 2001) at Passavant Area Hospital.
She was born February 6, 1918 in Winchester the daughter of the late George W. and Percy E. Andrews Patrick.
She attended Winchester schools. She was retired from the Scott County Nursing Center. She attended the Primitive Baptist Church in Winchester.
Survivors include her daughter Mrs. George (Mari) Reynolds of Wood River. 2 grandchildren Kim Buel (husband Leslie) of Godfrey and Geoffrey Reynolds of Wood River. 3 Great grandchildren Justin and Jenifer Buel of Godfrey and Zachary Reynolds of Wood River.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday January 31, 2001 at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:30 am until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions can be made to the family.
