Mrs. Edith French (Sparks)
Edith French, age 94, of the Pittsfield HealthCare Center in Pittsfield, Ill. died 4 a.m. Wednesday (April 10, 2002) at the HealthCare Center.
She was born November 25, 1907 in Benville, Ill. daughter of the late William G. and Maude Miller Sparks.
She married Charles Loren Wagner and later married John E. French in February 21, 1948 in New Salem, Ill. and he preceded her in death in 1992.
Surviving is four sons, Billy L. Wagner and wife Phyllis of Thomasboro, Ill., Robert French and wife Melissa of Union, Michigan, Leroy French and wife Peggy of Hortonville, Indiana, and Jim French and wife Sandy of Sheraton, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents; husbands; three sisters, Eva Butler Lippincott, Dorothy Sparks, and Lena Sparks; two brothers, Eldon and William Sparks.
She was a member of the Pittsfield First Baptist Church in Pittsfield, Ill.. She enjoyed fishing, crafts, card games and playing “Pitch”.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday (April 14, 2002) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Bro. Robert Hammitt officiating. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to charity of the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Hazel Bernice Frenz (Downs)
Hazel Bernice Frenz, age 82, of White Hall, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 8, 2002 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born July 8, 1920 near Berdan, the daughter of Robert Frank and Sarah Ella Montgomery Downs. She married George E. Frenz on Jan. 31, 1948 in East Alton and he preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 1978. She is survived by two daughters, Georgia Ann Holder of Roodhouse and Betty Jane Johnston of Paducah, Kentucky; one granddaughter, Crystal Holder; one grandson, Terry Lee Johnston; and one sister, Wreatha Bettis of Roodhouse. She was preceded in death by infant twin daughters, and eight sisters, Sylvia Whitacker, Mae Koster, Marie Landreth, Agnes Crabtree, Ada Stauffer, Blanche Vestel, Thelma Downs and Alma Havlin. Mrs. Frenz worked for the Hartford Tannery in Hartford and at Olin Corp. at East Alton. She was a member of the Spring Street Assembly of God Church and was active in church and missions work there. She later attended the Jacksonville Assembly of God and New Life Church in White Hall. She was also a member of the White Hall VFW Post 7684 Ladies Auxiliary. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bethalto. The family will meet friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the VFW Tree of Joy.

Mr. Michael Dean Fricke
Michael Dean Fricke, 54, of Jacksonville died peacefully Tuesday, February 26, 2002, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on May 2, 1947, at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville, the son of Raymond and Mildred Fricke. His father preceded him in death in 1996, and his mother survives in Jacksonville. He married Beverly Ann Bartlett on March 29, 1968 and she survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Dena (fiance, Kyle Cherry) of Bloomington; Janel (husband, Tom) Barber of Winchester and Erica of Normal.
Also surviving is one sister, Shirley Fricke of Chapin; and two brothers, Harlan (wife, Diana) Fricke of Winchester; and Allen ( companion, Diana Lawson) Fricke of Jacksonville. Dean is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dean graduated from Triopia High School in 1965. He then served as a Drill Sergeant in the United States Army from 1966-1968. Dean began working for the United States Postal Service in Jacksonville in 1971 as a postal carrier. He was appointed Supervisor of Customer Services in 1977 and currently held that position.
He was a devout member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where he had served as Chairman of the Congregation, he held numerous elected positions on the church council, and volunteered in many capacities in his 24 years as a member.
Dean fought a 12-year battle with cancer. His courage, bravery and faith during this time were admirable. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. on Friday at Williamson Funeral Home with the family to meet with friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Mr. Russell Friday
Russell L. Friday, 80, of Jacksonville, died Sunday afternoon, December 29, 2002, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on June 25, 1922,in Quincy, the son of Chester and Edna Zander Friday. He married Margaret Ashcraft on March 29, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri, and she preceded him in death on March 14, 1986. He married Virgene Barnhart Sorenson on May 26, 1990 in Jacksonville and she survives. He is also survived by one son, Robert (wife, Mary) Friday of Rochester; two daughters, Rusty (husband, Alton) McGuffin of Stanford and JoEllen Young of Bloomington; one step-son, John Sorenson of Boise, Idaho; two step-daughters, Sheryl Mocrzycki of Jacksonville and Patricia (husband, Ken) Burleson of Bessemer City, North Carolina; five grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Loraine. Mr. Friday was an upholsterer for many years. He began working in the Jacksonville area in the early 1950’s with Orville Ing and later Lowell White. He later became owner of Golden Rule Upholstery and operated that business until his retirement in January of 2000. Mr. Friday served in the 320th Infantry of the United States Army during World War II. He received the Purple Heart for his efforts during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member and former deacon of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, and held memberships in the Jacksonville Moose, Elks, American Legion, VFW, and Disabled American Veterans. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends following the service at the church. Private interment will be at a later date at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Stanford. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or Woodhaven Hospice. Mrs. Edna Louise Fry (Suttles)
Edna Louise Fry, 71, of South Jacksonville died Tuesday afternoon, January 15, 2002 at her residence. She was born February 1, 1930 near Murrayville the daughter of Leo and Dorothy Phillips Suttles. She married William C. Fry, Jr. on May 8, 1949 in White Hall and he preceded her in death on August 29, 1986.
She is survived by three sons, Green e County Sheriff Mike (wife, Vicky) Fry of White Hall, and Jim (wife, Paula) Fry and Bob (wife, Mary) Fry, both of Jacksonville; four granddaughters, one step-granddaughter; one step-great-granddaughter; her mother, Dorothy Suttles of White Hall; two sisters, Delores (husband, Raymond) VanWinkle of Murrayville and Phyllis (husband, Ralph) Vincent of White Hall; one brother, Elmer (wife, Carla) Suttles of Winchester; and special friend Amos Johnson of Nokomis. She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Patricia Diane Fry.
Mrs. Fry, along with her husband, owned and operated Bill Fry’s Zephyr in South Jacksonville from 1966-77. She later joined her sister Delores in business as co-owner and operator of the Gold Thread Shop in Jacksonville, and had also worked at the Morgan County Courthouse and at GTE. Mrs. Fry was a lifelong seamstress, enjoyed dancing to big band music, gardening, and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She attended First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Nokomis, and Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at White Hall Cemetery in White Hall. Friends may call after 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Central Illinois, Jacksonville Branch; Mission Possible Home Care Service, or the family.

Ms. Winnie Virginia Fry (Heberling)
Winnie Virginia Fry, age 82, of White Hall, died Monday morning, Nov. 4, 2002 at her daughter’s residence in White Hall. She was born Oct. 18, 1920 in White Hall, the daughter of Clyde and Lora Nash Heberling. She is survived by one daughter, Lora (husband, James) Besaw of White Hall; one son, Terry (wife, Pat) Fry of Springfield; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Timothy; three brothers, Dean, Ralph and Myron Heberling; and three sisters, Mildred Carmean, Hazel Whiteside and Ada Seymoure. Mrs. Fry was a licensed practical nurse working at the nursing home in White Hall for many years. She was a member of the White Hall First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. The family will meet friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Blessing Hospice of Green e County.

Mr. John Alvin Gaines
John Alvin Gaines, 76, of Jacksonville, died Saturday morning, July 27, 2002 at Jacksonville Convalescent Center. He was born on October 9, 1925 in Versailles, the son of William and Annie Flynn Gaines. He married Lillian DeGroot on May 26, 1956 and she preceded him in death on February 14, 1990. He later married Doris Hamm on June 14, 1991 in Jacksonville and she survives. He is also survived by three sons, John (wife, Pam) Gaines, Jr. of Concord, William Herman (wife, Stacey) Gaines of Jacksonville, and James (wife, Michell) Gaines of Arenzville; two daughters, Debbie (husband, Rex) Goodpasture of Good Hope and Pattie Gaines of Beardstown; three step-sons, James K. (wife, Judith) Willoughby of Bloomington, George W. (wife, Darlene) Willoughby of West Virginia, and Earl Willoughby of Jacksonville, Florida; one step-daughter, Teresa (husband, Joel) Padgett of Fairbanks, Alaska; thirteen grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one great-grandson, and one brother, William “Bub” Gaines, Jr. of Concord. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, one brother, Eugene Gaines, and two sisters, Lorraine Thompson and Shirley Gaines. Mr. Gaines was a bulldozer operator and worked with Bob Nickel at Concord. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was a member of the Amvets and VFW. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Concord Cemetery at Concord. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Clarence "Sam" Gamble
Clarence A. “Sam” Gamble, age 95, of Pittsfield, Ill. died Tuesday evening (Aug. 13, 2002) at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill.. He was born December 1, 1906 in Adams County, Ill. son of the late Samuel and Myrtle Hendricks Gamble. He married Mildred Conroy on July 29, 1936 and she preceded him in death on August 5, 1985. He later married Marjorie Main Penstone on February 21, 1987 in Pittsfield, Ill. and she survives. Also surviving are two stepchildren, Julie Myers and husband David of Griggsville, Ill. and Lisa Leahy and husband Tim of Pittsfield, Ill.; three grandchildren, Audrey and Benjamin Myers of Griggsville, Ill. and Quinn Leahy of Pittsfield, Ill.; one sister, Erma Scheer of California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alan and Donald Gamble and one sister, Ila Osborne. Mr. Gamble graduated from Barry High School in 1924 and attended Illinois College and Western Illinois University where he attained his degree in Liberal Arts. He taught school and coached in the Hull, Liberty, and Pittsfield school districts for 27 years. He also owned and operated a restaurant in Jacksonville in his early years, and later worked at Farmers Bank of Liberty. He was a member of the Pittsfield First Christian Church where he served in various capacities. He was a member of the Pittsfield Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Knights Templer, Quincy Valley Consistory, and Springfield Ansar Shrine. He served on the Pittsfield Community Center Board for several years and was a member of Pittsfield Lion’s Club. Mr. Gamble was elected to the Board of Directors of First National Bank of Pittsfield, Ill. in 1966 and in 1977 retired from the presidency of the bank board. In 1978, he received a citation from Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill. for distinguished public service. He was proud to be chosen as Grand Marshal of the Pittsfield Fall Festival in 1986. He enjoyed fishing in his early years and spending time on his farm. In his later years, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Sweetie. He also loved to travel. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday (Aug. 16, 2002) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Rev. Clay Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.. A public Masonic service will be conducted by the Pittsfield Masonic Lodge #790 A.F. & A. M. at 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Pittsfield First Christian Church or to Pittsfield West Cemetery.

Paul E. Garrison
Paul E. Garrison, 85, of Jacksonville, formerly of Carrollton died on Monday
July 22, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
Born in White Hall on July 1, 1917 he was the son of the late George and
Erma L. Varble Garrison.
He first married Cora Hardwick in 1940 and she preceded him in death on
June 1 1980. He later married Mildred Giberson Ladd on Oct. 1, 1984 in
Bowling Green , Mo. and she preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 2000.
Surviving are 3 daughters: Carol Loy of Jacksonville, Martha Axley of
Carrollton and Judy Garrison of Staunton, a step daughter: Mabel Thuer of
Carrollton, several grand and great grandchildren, 2 brothers: Raymond and
Leroy Garrison both of Carrollton.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Betty Dunmire, 3 sisters: Alma
Wehlhausen, Virginia Parker and Lucille Hardwick and twin brother and
sister: Ruth and Robert Garrison.
Mr. Garrison worked for the City of Carrollton for 25 years, he later ran
a lawn care business before full retirment. He was a member of the Moose
Lodge in Jerseyville and the Kane Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Tuesday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton where services will be held on Wednesday at 2
P.M. with burial to follow in Providence Cemetery east of Carrollton.
Memorials may be made to the cemetery or Kane Baptist Church.

Omar Billy Gathing
Omar Billy Gathing, 34, of Jacksonville died Sunday morning, August 25, 2002 at Prairie Village Health Care Center in Jacksonville. He was born October 30, 1967 in Memphis, Tennessee the son of Sam and Clanna Williams Gathing, Jr. He is survived by his mother, Clanna Williams Wright of Kankakee; two brothers, Brian Williams of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Paul Wright III of Kankakee and one sister, Stacey Williams of Alexandria, Virginia. Burial will be held at a later date at Momence Cemetery in Momence, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth Haley Gauges
Kenneth H. Gauges, 60 , of rural Winchester passed away late Friday evening at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born March 18, 1942 near Alsey the son of Haley and Mildred Northrop Gauges. He married Marie Elaine McEvers October 20, 1962 at the Lynnville United Methodist Church. He was 1961 graduate of Winchester High School. He was a US Army Veteran serving in Vietnam. Mr. Gauges was a farmer and had worked several years for the State of Illinois as a License Inspector. He was a member of the Lynnville United Methodist Church, he had been a member of the Winchester VFW, the South Scott Saddle Club. He loved riding horses, he loved to farm and care for his livestock. Mr. Gauges is survived by his wife Elaine at home, his son Jeff Gauges of Severna Park, Maryland, his parents Haley and Mildred Gauges of rural Winchester, and a sister Karen (Kenneth) Collison of Merritt. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday (November 12, 2002) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery were military graveside rites will be performed. Friends may call after 3:00 PM Monday at the funeral home were the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Winchester EMS.

Mrs. Dorothy L. Gerard (Boren)
Dorothy L. Gerard, age 89, of St. Peters, Mo. and formerly of Pittsfield, Ill. died 2:10 p.m. Monday (January 7, 2002) at her daughter’s residence in St. Peters, Mo.
She was born February 21, 1912 in Milton, Ill. daughter of the late A. Clyde and Mary C. Petty Boren.
She married Kenneth Sparks in November of 1939. She later married Donald Gerard on June 11, 1966 in Bowling Green , Mo. and he preceded her in death on April 11, 1983.
Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. H. Paul (Mary Jane) Smith of St. Peters, Mo.; one grandson, Michael D. Smith and wife Jenny of Osage Beach, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Rylee Michelle, Brittany Ann, and Joshua Paul Smith all of Osage Beach, Mo.; one sister, Retta Ruth Donham; a sister-in-law, Maurine Boren of Pittsfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one sister, Madelyn Henry; and one brother, Lyndle Boren.
Mrs. Gerard was a graduate of Milton High School who worked at the Brown Shoe Company in Pittsfield, Ill. for many years retiring in the 1960’s. She was a past member of Green Pond Christian Church near Milton, Ill. and a member of the Pittsfield First Christian Church and the Pricilla Club at the church. She enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Pittsfield West Cemetery with Rev. Clay Boyd officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. Memorials may be made to the Pittsfield First Christian Church.

Betty Jane Gerson (Gillingham)
Betty Jane Gerson, 74, of White Hall died on Wednesday March 6, 2002 at
Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Born in Carrollton on May 2, 1927 she was the daughter of the late John
and Lora Wood Gillingham Sr.
She married Otis Gerson in Oct. 14, 1967 in Carrollton and he preceded
her in death in 1987. Surviving are: 5 sisters: Mary “Pete” Chapman of
Carrollton, Louise Scheffel of Carrollton, Mrs. Fred “Neoma” Schmidt of
Carrollton , Mrs. Gerald “Jo Ann” Roth of Carrollton and Mrs. Richard
“Darlene” Carmean of Roodhouse, 3 brothers: Harry (wife Mildred)
Gillingham of Carrollton, John (wife Lois) Gillingham Jr. of White Hall and
Neal (wife Pat) Gillingham of Carrollton. Several nephews and nieces also
survive. She was preceded in death by a brother Willis Gillingham and a
sister Lillian Helderman.
Mrs. Gerson was a housekeeper and member of the Carrollton First
Presbyterian Church, but also attended the Eldred Baptist Church and later
the Carrollton First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 9 A.M. until 11 A.M. on Friday at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Services will be at 11 A.M. that
day with burial to follow in the Eldred Memorial Gardens Cemetery at
Eldred. Memorials are to a charity of one’s choice.

Mr Rollin C. Giller
Rollin C. Giller,96, of Palmyra, died Thursday, October 31, 2002 at Heritage Manor in Carlinville, IL. He was born March 4, 1906 in Whitehall, IL, a son of Dr. Thomas Edward Augustus and Ella Strang Giller. He married Margaret Honey on August 26, 1934, and she preceded him in death on May 5, 2001 Mr Giller was a graduate of Brown’s Business School in Jacksonville, IL He was a cattle farmer and farmed south of Palmyra all of his adult life, an agent for Macoupin County Mutual Insurance Co. for a number of years, a member of Palmyra Christian Church , Palmyra Masonic Lodge # 463, Palmyra Lions Club and Macoupin County Farm Bureau. Mr Giller is survived by one son: Curtiss (wife Jackie) Giller of Naples Florida; Three Daughters: Linda (husband Morris) Hicks of Tucson, Az.; Lou Ann Querrey of Darien, IL and Jean Johnson of Carpentersville, IL, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents, his wife, two brothers: Gene and Howard Giller and one sister: Ruth Kauffman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, November 4, 2002 in Palmyra Christian Church. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 4pm until 7pm. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra. Memorials are suggested to: Palmyra Christian Church, Palmyra Lions Club or Northwestern Rescue Squad. Mrs. Ruby Mae Gillis (Pryor)
Ruby Mae Gillis, age 90, of White Hall, died Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 10, 2002 at the Scott County Nursing Center in Winchester. She was born Jan. 12, 1912 near Haypress, the daughter of George Washington and Lottie Jones Pryor. She married Eugene Gillis on Aug. 16, 1928 in Hillview and he preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1986. She is survived by one daughter, June (husband, Bob) Douglas of White Hall; five sons, John G. (wife, Mary Lou) Gillis of Farmer City; Harvey Lee (wife, Arlette) Gillis of Smyrna, Delaware; Fred E. (wife, Linda) Gillis of White Hall; Richard “Dick” (wife, Dodie) Gillis of Jacksonville; and George Edward (wife, Pat) Gillis of White Hall; 28 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Faye Campbell; her son-in-law, Kenneth Campbell; three grandchildren; two sisters, Blanche Schroeder and Hazel Heskett and three brothers, Ernest, Harvey and Claude Pryor. Mrs. Gillis was a member of the Patterson-Hillview Extension for many years. She attended the Wilmington Baptist Church in Patterson. Her hobbies included taking photographs of her family and friends, sewing and playing the piano. She was a homemaker, a good mother, grandmother and friend to all her knew her. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. The family will meet friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Wilmington Baptist Church.

Mr. William Pleasant Gilmore
William Pleasant “W.P.” Gilmore, 73, of Roodhouse died Saturday morning, May 4, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born on January 16, 1929 in White Hall the son of Hal S and Katheryne Shaw Gilmore. He married Mary Louis Richards in Carrollton on June 6, 1954 and she survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Tracy (husband, Casey) Graves of Orlando, Florida, Wendy Gilmore of St. Louis, Missouri, and Laurie Gilmore of Orlando, Florida; two granddaughters, Stephanie and Danielle Graves of Orlando; one sister, Jacqueline Cressy-Baxter of Vero Beach, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gilmore was a graduate of Roodhouse High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the first Master Counselor of Eli Chapter of Order of DeMolays at Roodhouse. He was a 52 year member of E.M. Husted Lodge 796, A.F. & A.M.; a 51 year member of Ansar Shrine; and a member of Springfield Consistory, Rasna Shrine Club, and the Royal Order of Jesters in Springfield. He retired in 1986 from the Board of Directors of the Roodhouse National Bank, a position he held for 36 years. He was past-president of the Illinois Cattlemen Association and farmed in the Roodhouse area for 60 years. Mr.Gilmore was President of the Illinois Tapioca Growers Association. He was a member of the Roodhouse United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at the Roodhouse United Methodist Church. The family will meet friends from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. George Gilford Gimbel
George Gilford Gimbel, 84, of Jacksonville, died Thursday evening, October 3, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on November 9, 1917 in Chapin, the son of Clarence and Dora Frances Gimbel. He married Clarabell Ballenger on January 18, 1939 in Bowling Green , Missouri, and she preceded him in death on April 20, 2002. He is survived by one son, Carl Gimbel of Jacksonville; two daughters, Tina (husband, Loi) Kemple and Rose Maddox, both of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Dean (wife, Wanda) Gimbel of Jacksonville, and one sister, Rose Aileen Tucker of Jacksonville. Mr. Gimbel was preceded in death by one son, George R. Gimbel; one daughter, Lula Bell Daniels; four grandchildren, three brothers, Clarence Wesley Gimbel, Ernest Carl Gimbel, and Donald Keith Gimbel; and four sisters, Tina Joe-Ann Gimbel, Eleanor Israel, Margaret Ticknor, and Bessie Gimbel. Mr. Gimbel was assistant director of maintenance and grounds and Illinois College for nearly 30 years. He served in the United States Navy, in the Pacific Theatre, during World War II. Mr. Gimbel enjoyed camping, woodworking, and welding. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Jacksonville East Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Sunday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Clarabell Gimbel (Ballenger)
Clarabell Gimbel, 81, of Jacksonville died Saturday afternoon, April 20, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born on October 7, 1920 in Brown County, Missouri the daughter of John Russell and Lula Tisha Ragan Ballenger.
She married George Gimbel on January 18,1939 in Bowling Green , Missouri and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tina (husband, Loi) Kemple and Rose Maddox, both of Jacksonville; one son, Carl Gimbel of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; one brother, Loren (wife, Peggy) Ballenger of Mt. Sterling and one sister, Velma Butler of Griggsville. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lula Bell Daniels; one son, George R. Gimbel, four grandchildren, and two sisters, Verna Moore and Veulah Buckner. Mrs. Gimbel had worked at J. Capps & Sons, Barton W. Stone Christian Home, and other local nursing homes. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed embroidery and crafts.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2002 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial in Jacksonville East Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Beulah M. Ginder (Wohlers)
Beulah M. Ginder, 72, of rural Arenzville died Wednesday morning, February 20, 2002 at Passavant Area Hospital. She was born September 10, 1929 in Morgan County the daughter of Arthur J.W. and Gladys Hamilton Wohlers. She married Lloyd Ginder on August 21, 1955 at Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville and he survives.
She is also survived by two sons, Carl (wife, Janet) Ginder and Rex Ginder both of Jacksonville; one daughter, Lisa (husband, Tim) Hammond of Peoria; 2 step-grandchildren; three brothers, Melvin (wife, Naomi) Wohlers of Jacksonville, Ralph (wife, Thelma) Wohlers of Franklin and Gerald (wife, Cheryl) Wohlers of Geneva; six sisters, Mary (husband, Paul) Dufelmeier of Arenzville, Lenora (husband, Howard) Lovekamp of Lockport, Roberta Wohlers of Jacksonville, Norma (husband, Gerald) Michael of Jacksonville, Betty (husband, Robert) Essex of Phoenix, Arizona and Thelma (husband, Jerry) Barrington of Springfield. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Owen Wohlers and Leonard Wohlers and one sister, Ruth Wohlers.
Mrs. Ginder graduated from Jacksonville High School and Hardin-Brown Business College. She had been a secretary at Lukeman’s and Jacksonville School District #117. She was also a homemaker who helped extensively on the family farm.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and a life member of Alpha Ioata Sorority and had served on the election board and Arcadia Cemetery Board.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2002 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Arcadia Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon on Friday with the family to meet friends from 5-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church.
