Moss, Mildred L.

Services for Mildred Louise Moss, sister of Dale Seagle of Nokomis, were held this morning in Moweaqua with burial in the Macon cemetery. Mrs. Moss died at 2:15 a.m. Monday, July 26, 1999, in Fair Havens Christian Home, Decatur. She was 86 years old on November 28. She was born in Salem, a daughter of George and Lena Renfro Seagle. She married Kenneth B. Moss on February 22, 1933; he died March 9, 1997. Surviving are a son, Norman Moss of Manitou Springs, Colo.; daughter, Phyllis Mathias of Moweaqua; another brother, Earl Seagle of Ohlman; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mosser, Barbara Jean

Services for Barbara Jean Mosser, of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Ronald D. Rhodus of the Calvary Baptist Church, Hillsboro, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Mosser died at 12:04 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was 74 years old on September 4. She worked on an assembly line with Borg-Warner, York Division in Decatur for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She was born in Macon County, near Decatur, a daughter of George Harold and Mary Margaret Hennessey Smith. She married George O. Mosser and they were later divorced. Surviving are a son, Robert Mosser and wife Glenda of Litchfield; daughter, Angelia Moody and husband Wayne of Hillsboro; sisters, Pat Oliver of Litchfield, Mary Brown of Decatur; and three grandchildren, Adam K. Mosser of Litchfield, Taylor W. and Jordan Ashley Moody of Hillsboro. Preceding her in death was a sister, Elaine Goble. Services for Barbara Jean Mosser, of Litchfield, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Plummer Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Ronald D. Rhodus of Calvary Baptist Church, Hillsboro, officiated. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Musical selections for the service were "Just a Closer Walk with Thee," "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace." A letter written to Mrs. Mosser by her granddaughter, Angelia Moody, was read during the service by Angelia's husband, Wayne. Pallbearers were her grandson, Adam Mosser of Litchfield, John Burchard of Decatur, Ed Fogle and Mark Gray, both of Litchfield, John Highcock and Gary Mackling, both of Decatur. Following the committal service a luncheon was provided for the family and friends by the women of Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Mosser, 74, died Wednesday, April 14, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

Motika, Ima L.

Services for Ima L. Motika, sister of Carolyn Nimmo of Farmersville, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Davis - Anderson Funeral Home there with Greg Nimmo officiating. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Girard Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday in the funeral home from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Mrs. Motika, of Girard, died Sunday, September 26, 1999, in her home. She was 73 years old on April 1. She was born in Girard, a daughter of Harmon R. and Fern D. Leach Gardner. She married Frank Motika in 1946 in Girard; he died in 1982. Surviving are a daughter, Rena Motika of Girard; son, Bill Motika and wife Lesa of Virden; sisters, Iva M. Miller and husband Howard of Chatham, Carolyn Nimmo and husband Gerald of Farmersville; brothers, Melvin "Buzz" Gardner and Jim Gardner, both of Springfield; and a granddaughter.

Moultrie, Dixon L.

Services for Dixon L. Moultrie, Hillsboro police officer, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Patton Memorial Home with the Rev. Dr. Ronald Rhodus, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 1306 of Taylor Springs. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the elevator fund at Calvary Baptist Church or the elevator fund at St. Agnes Catholic Church, both in Hillsboro. Mr. Moultrie died at 8:10 a.m. Sunday, June 20, 1999, in his home. He was 49 years old on December 29. He would have been an officer in the Hillsboro Police Department for 20 years in September. He was a Livingston police officer for four years before moving to Hillsboro in 1981. He was a 1968 graduate of Staunton High School and attended Lewis and Clark Community College, Godfrey, where he earned an associate degree in Law Enforcement and specialized in institution and community law enforcement. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Charles "Ted" and Regina Blaszskowski Moultrie. He married Diana Mengal on November 25, 1972, in Staunton. Surviving are his wife, Diana; son, Scott Moultrie of Staunton; daughters, Shawn Moultrie of Hillsboro, Jamie Moultrie Gaskins of Jacksonville, Fla., Tammy Moultrie of Hillsboro; his parents, Ted and Regina Moultrie of Staunton; brother, James Moultrie and wife Pat of Staunton, Steve Moultrie of Missouri. Others surviving include his mother in law, Mary Mengal of Staunton.

Muirheid, Hilda Maree

Hilda Maree Muirheid, formerly of Nokomis, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, in Decatur Memorial Hospital. A resident of Decatur for the past several years, she was 92 years old on April 13. She was born in Nokomis, a daughter of John A. and Tena Luken Johnson, and married H. Donald Muirheid on February 14, 1937, in Nokomis. He died in 1987. Surviving is a daughter, Carmen Joy Auerback of Elmhurst. Preceding her in death were four brothers and four sisters. Services were held Wednesday in Decatur with burial in Graceland Cemetery there.

Mumper, Thomas R.

Memorial service for Thomas Ray Mumper, of Lake KaHo, Mt. Olive, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Olive with the Rev. Matthew Woodcock officiating. The remains are to be cremated. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers they suggest memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Olive. Becker and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Mumper died Thursday, June 24, 1999, in Jefferson Barracks Veterans Home. He was 67 years old on October 17. He was a printer for the Collinsville Herald for 35 years before retiring. He also served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1954. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Olive and the Lake KaHo Association. He was born in Collinsville, a son of James W. and Helen Lechowicz Mumper. Surviving are sons, Thomas R. Mumper II of Camden, Tenn., Charles Mumper and wife Sherri of Collinsville, Matthew Mumper of Mt. Olive; brothers, James Mumper of Clearwater, Fla., Donald Mumper of San Diego, Calif., Earl Mumper of St. Louis, Robert Mumper of Worden, Kenneth Mumper of Collinsville; sisters, Sally Borowka of Mt. Olive, Dolores Gibson of Staunton, Ruth Ann Conway, Norma Edwards, Barbara Emmons, Nancy Knapp, Pat Barnett, all of Collinsville, Bonnie Knoll of Caseyville, Sandy Kindell of Collinsville, Vicki Hladik of Orlando, Fla.; and four grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a sister, Emma Simmons.

Murkin, Verla L.

Verla L. Murkin, mother of Gary G. Murkin of Hillsboro and Evertt L. Murkin of Witt, died at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, in her home in Shelbyville. She was 80 years old on April 13. She was born in Assumption, a daughter of Emerzire H. and Vina Lovegrove Brown.ŒSurviving also are another son, Robert E. Murkin of Westervelt; daughters, Evelyn J. Cloe, Carolyn Sue Bendorf, Marilyn Carroll, all of Shelbyville, Virginia Buescher of Decatur, Bonnie Carlson of Westervelt, Shelby Girrulat of Pana, Rhonda Harbaugh of Sullivan; sisters, Opal Ballard of Springfield, Verna Smothers of Earlville; 29 grandchidlren, 39 great grandchidlren and four great great grandchildren. Services were held in Shelbyville with burial in Glenwood Cemetery there.

Murphy, Lavonne

Services for Lavonne Murphy, of Carlinville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Memorial Christian Church there. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Litchfield. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Davis Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville. The family suggests memorials be directed to the American Heart Association. Mrs. Murphy died at 12:58 a.m. Monday, September 28, 1998, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was 74 years old on January 13. She and her husband, Richard, owned the State Farm Insurance Company in Carlinville. She was born in Brookfield, Mo., a daughter of Lester and Grace Gustafson Moxley. She married Richard M. Murphy on March 30, 1946, in Litchfield. He survives. Surviving also are daughters, Jerilynn Webber of Philomath, Oregon, Karen Murphy Jones of Springfield; a son, Mark Murphy of Naperville; and two grandchildren, Dane and Sydney Murphy. Others surviving include a brother in law, Jim Murphy of Litchfield.

Murphy, Richard M.

Services for Richard M. "Dick" Murphy, of Carlinville, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Memorial Christian Church there with the Rev. Martin Miller officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Litchfield. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville. The family suggests memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Visiting Nurses of Memorial Medical Center Hospice. Mr. Murphy died at 2 p.m. Friday, September 17, 1999, in the home of his daughter in Springfield. He was 73 years old on June 21, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was an agent for State Farm Insurance Company in Carlinville for 35 years, retiring in August 1990. He was a past elder of the Memorial Christian Church. He was born in Litchfield, a son of Dane and Marie Crossett Murphy, and was a graduate of Litchfield High School in the class of 1946. He married Lavonne Moxley on March 30, 1946, in Litchfield. She died September 28, 1998. Surviving are a daughters, Jerilynn Webber of Corvallis, Oregon, Caren Murphy - Jones and husband Bruce of Springfield; a son, Mark Murphy and wife Dawn of Naperville; brothers, James Murphy of Litchfield, Patrick Murphy of Hillsboro, Russell Murphy of Mascoutah, John Murphy of Decatur; and two grandchildren, Dane Murphy and Sydney Murphy. Preceding him in death were sisters, Marion Barry and Betty Vanover.

Murphy, Ruth Hussey

Ruth Hussey Murphy, a teacher in the Litchfield School District for more than 40 years, died March 20, 1999, in Billings, Montana. She was 101 years old on October 15. Much of her teaching career was spent at Sihler school. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield and taught Sunday school there for many years. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of William H. and Lillian Belle Boden Hussey. Her husband, Edward R. Murphy, to whom she was married for only a short time, died in 1971. Surviving are a niece and two nephews.

Musial, Leona E.

Services for Leona E. Musial, of Nokomis, were held Sunday afternoon in Sutton Funeral Home there. The Rev. Edmund Hill officiated. Burial was in Nokomis Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Transitional Care Unit at St. Francis Hospital. Mrs. Musial died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, October 15, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 87 years old on August 21. She was born in Audubon Township, a daughter of Charles E. and Elizabeth Bauerle Johnson, and was twice married. She first married Roy Mansfield on July 2, 1929, in Vandalia; he died February 15, 1972. She then married Bruno Musial in Nokomis; he died in July 1996. Surviving are a son, Charles "Dude" Mansfield of Hillsboro; a sister, Veneta Huber of Nokomis; granddaughters, Nancy Anderson and Martha Mansfield; and a great granddaughter, Megan Anderson. A son, Jimmie Ray, preceded her in death.

Mutchler, Chauncey

Graveside service for Chauncey "Jack" Mutchler, of Butler, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Cress Hill Cemetery with the Rev. James Howie of Donnellson officiating. There will be no visitation. Friends may meet at Patton Fuenral Home on Monday at 10:45 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Mr. Mutchler died at 11 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. He was 73 years old on February 2. He was a resident of Butler for the last 45 years and had worked as a construction laborer and in farming before he retired in 1978. He was a former member of Laborers Union Local 338. He was born in Commerce, Mo., a son of Jacob and Mary Groves Mutchler. He married Marcella Brown on April 22, 1944 in Hillsboro. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Jack Mutchler and wife Pat of Springfield; daughters, Sherri Olson of Springfield, Tarianne Ames of Springfield; brothers, William Mutchler of Hillsboro, Ray Mutchler of Missouri; sister, Ellen Stewart of Taylor Springs, wife of the late Vester Stewart; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Connie Cartwright in January 1975; brothers, Norman, Wade, Gene and LeRoy Mutchler; and a sister, Juanita Mutchler.

Myers, Jr., Guy R.

Services for Guy Russell "Russ" Myers, Jr., formerly of Hillsboro, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Bass Funeral Home there with the Rev. Tom Compton, pastor of Hillsboro United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery, Litchfield. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Meyers died at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, October 19, 1998, in Fort Collins, Colo. He was 79 years old on May 17. He and his wife, Julia, moved to Fort Collins earlier this year to be near family. He was a resident of the Hillsboro and Litchfield areas most of his life and was a farm equipment salesman in Hillsboro for many years. He was born in Hillsboro, a son of Guy Russell, Sr., and Kathryn Grubbs Myers. He married Julia Rose Kates on August 10, 1941, in St. Louis. She survives. Surviving also are a son, Gary and wife Angela of Ft. Collins; daughter, Mary Lou Rauch and husband Gary of Mantua, N.J.; brother, Francis Myers of Hillsboro; and a grandson, Christopher Carl Rauch.

Naffziger, Della M.

Della M. Naffziger, sister of Maxine Snyder of Raymond, died Thursday, Setpember 24, 1998, in her home in Atlanta. She was 85 years old on October 30. She was born in Eminence Township, a daughter of Gilbert and Laura Petty Turner. She married Wayne T. Naffziger in 1935 in Peoria. He died in 1994. Surviving daughters, Patricia Kutilek of Lombard, Shirley J. Stroud of Champaign, Sharon McKown and Vicki S. Barry, both of Altanta; brothers, William H. Turner and Gilbert Turner Jr., both of Atlanta, Raymond E. Turner of Lincoln; another sister, Eleanor Schmidt of Atlanta; 12 grandchidlren and 26 great grandchildren. Services were held Sunday in Atlanta with burial in Union Cemetery in rural Emden.

Nagel, Margaret I.

Services for Margaret I. Nagel, mother of Beverly I. Nemeth of Litchfield, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Calvert and Ferry Funeral Home, Girard, with the Rev. Dan LaCount officiating. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Pleasant Hill Village. Mrs. Nagel died Wednesday, January 27, 1999, in Docotrs Hospital. She was 86 years old on December 14. She worked for the Virden Dress factory at one time, and was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Girard. She was born in Coal City, Pa., a daughter of John and Mary Frank Jupina. She married Bernard M. Nagel in 1934, in Girard. He died in 1996. Surviving are a son, Bernard J. "Bernie" Nagel and wife Linda of Auburn; another daughter, Patricia A. Sallade of Girard; a brother, John P. Jupina of Girard; and three grandchildren.

Nail, Edwin

Services for Edwin Nail, formerly of Waggoner, were held Tuesday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel, Colleyville, Texas, with burial in Garden of Rainbow Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. The family suggests that memorials be sent in care of Hough Funeral Home, Raymond. Mr. Nail, of Hurst, Texas, died Sunday, December 27, 1998. He was 65 years old last January 15, and a veteran of World War II. He was a son of Myron Nail of Waggoner and the late Bertha Bergman Nail. He was an airline pilot before he retired. Surviving besides his father are daughters, Kate Capshaw Spielberg, Carrie Elizabeth Wunderle, both of California, Kelly Lynn Fehlberg of Wisconsin; sons, David Leon Nail and Jeffrey Howard Wunderle, both of California; and 10 grandchildren. Among others surviving is a nephew, Rodney Matthews of Waggoner. A sister, Wilma Matthews, preceded him in death.

Napier, Green

Services for Green Napier, of Staunton, were held at 11 a.m. today in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Livingston. The Rev. Father George Radosevich officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Williamson Funeral Home, Staunton, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Shriners Hospital. Mr. Napier died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 1999, in Ven-Cor Hospital, St. Louis. He was 78 years old on September 8, and an Army veteran of World War II. He spent 20 years on active duty with the Army, retiring with the rank of Major. He then spent 22 years as a civil servant, working for the Army. He had resided for the past four years in Staunton. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston, Staunton VFW Post 1241 and Masonic Lodge 177 AF&AM of Staunton. He was born in Little, Kentucky, a son of Edward and Elva Strong Napier. His wife, the former Elsie Dzurus, survives. Surviving also are brothers, Earl Napier of Jackson, Ky., Henry Napier of Fort Wayne, Ind., Bill Napier of Jackson, Ky.; sisters, Ann Filburn of Jackson, Ky., Betty Welch and Virginia Gobel, both of Kendallville, Ind. Preceding him in death were a sister, Minerva Napier and brothers, Charles and Hiram Napier.

Nash, Larry D.

Services for Larry D. Nash, of Nokomis, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sutton Funeral Home there with the Rev. Father Pat Jakel and Rev. Jay Keele officiating. Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Illinois National Guard and the American Legion. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Nash died Friday, July 17, 1998, in Warrenton, Mo., as the result of injuries suffered in truck accident. He was 43 years old on May 21. He was a truck driver for Carry Transportation Company. A member of the Illinois National Guard for 20 years, he served in Desert Shield of Desert Storm. He was born in Chicago, a son of Donald and Anna Bucaro Nash. He married Teresa Menin on October 8, 1977, in Nokomis. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Bryan and Bobby Nash, both at Home; mother, Anna Nash of Nokomis; brother, Rodney Nash of Copper Cave, Texas; sister, Cathy Pavolka of Nokomis; grandmother, Grace Nash of Nokomis.

Nash, Nancy Lee

Services for Nancy Lee Nash, formerly of Nokomis, were held Wednesday in Vandalia with burial in Ramsey Cemetery. Mrs. Nash died at 1:45 a.m. Monday, January 25, 1999, in her home in Bingham. She was 44 years old on January 7. She was a beautician and a member of the New Life Assembly of God Church in Coffeen. She was born in Nokomis, a daughter of Johnnie Edwards and Mary Lucille Huber Stokes. She married Ronald Ray Nash on November 28, 1972, in Fayette County. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Dustin D. Nash of Ramsey; daughter, Brandi Kelly and husband Jeremy of RAmsey; her mother, Mary Stokes of Ramsey; brothers, Carol Stokes of Vera; Bill stokes and Johnnie R. Stokes of Ramsey and Clyde Stokes of Nokomis; sisters, Judy Hughes of Shobonier, Doreen Brown of Ramsey and two grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her father, Johnnie, and a son, Brandon Ray Nash in 1990.

Nation, John A.

Services for John A. Nation, of Ohlman, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home, Nokomis, with the Rev. John Bapst officiating. Burial will be in the Ohlman Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Mr. Nation died at 6 p.m. Monday, December 13, 1999, in Pana Community Hospital. He was 73 years old on March 13. He was a truck driver and a school bus driver before he retired, and was affiliated with the Baptist church. He was born in Girard, a son of Henry and Mary Ward Nation. He married Lorene Sullivan on March 14, 1944; she survives. Surviving also are sons, Larry Nation and wife Sharon of Tower Hill, Russell Nation of Nokomis, Clinton Nation and wife Melissa of Schram City; daughters, Debra Herpstreith of Gillespie, Barb Klotz and husband Glen of Borger, Texas; brothers, Harry Nation of Middletown, Ohio, Alfred Nation of Alton; sisters, Verna Clevewell of Indiana, Clara Fouts of Auburn; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a brother, Robert Nation and a sister, Beulah Nation.

Neal, Olinda Albrecht

Graveside service for Olinda Albrecht Neal, formerly of Worden, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Spangle Cemetery near Staunton with the Rev. Richard Feyen officiating. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will meet friends in the cemetery from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Mrs. Neal died at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 1998, in Hampton Nursing Home, Alhambra. She was 87 years old on October 20. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Staunton. She was born in Omphghent Township of Madison County, a daughter of Christ and Emma Hunecke Albrecht, and was the last of her family. Twelve brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

Neathery, Wanda G.

Wanda G. Neathery, who was retired from Hillboro Glass, died at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 1999, in Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia. She was 89 years old on August 27. A daughter of Lewis and Tina Crews Mackiney, she married Charles Neathery on November 27, 1936. He died on December 30, 1979. Surviving are daughters, Helen Hoyle of Vandalia, Charlotte Warner of Ramsey, Glenna Teter of Vandalia; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a brother, Glenn Mackiney; step brother, the Rev. Burlis Hill; and two grandchildren. Services were held today in Fillmore with burial in Green hill Cemetery at VanBurensburg.

Needham, Dorothy Marie

Services for Dorothy Marie Needham, of Lake Kaho, Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Becker and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Father Larry Anschutz officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Litchfield Amvets Post 16 or to cancer research. Mrs. Needham died at 4:50 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 74 years old on March 5. She worked at the First National Bank of East St. Louis for 25 years before retiring. She was a member of the Mt. Olive Senior Citizens and Litchfield Chapter 581 of the Women of the Moose. She was also an avid bingo player. She was a 1941 graduate of St. Theresa's Academy, East St. Louis, and also attended St. Joseph's Catholic School there. She was born in East St. Louis, a daughter of William and Marcella Knott Diercks. She married Donald F. Needham on February 16, 1946, in the rectory of St. Joseph's Church in East St. Louis. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Dee Allen Needham of Mt. Olive; a daughter, Ladonna Marie Roberts and husband Louis of Cahokia; a sister, Rosemary Rettig and husband Joe of Largo, Fla.; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services for Dorothy Marie Needham, of Mt. Olive, were held at 11 this morning in Becker and Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Father Larry Anschutz officiated. Burial was in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights. Pallbearers were Dean Jett, Charles Dowdy, Leonard Schneck, George Thompson, Charles Gilbert and Jay Rettig. Following the services a luncheon was served in the VFW hall by the Litchfield Amvets auxiliary. Mrs. Needham, 74, died Saturday, September 5, in St. Francis Hospital. CORRECTION In the follow up obituary of Dorothy Needham in Wednesday's services there was an error. The VFW auxiliary not the Amvets auxiliary provided lunch for family and friends in the VFW hall following the services.

Nelson, Loretta A.

Services for Loretta A. Nelson, of Coffeen, were held this morning in Toberman Funeral Home there. The Rev. Ivan Brake officiated. Burial was in Olive Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Nelson died Monday, May 3, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was 80 years old on August 25. She was a member of the Senior Citizens of Coffeen, Royal Neighbors of America, and New Life Assembly of God in Coffeen. She was born in Buckskin, Ind., a daughter of Creola Beacher. She married Jack Nelson on April 22, 1941, in Plymouth, Ind.; he died October 3, 1972. Surviving are daughters, Becky Wright and husband Ron of Coffeen, Tana Holzmeyer of Carlisle, Ind.; son, Jack E. Nelson of Buckskin; brothrs, Charles Beacher of Bedford, Ind., Joseph Beacher of Bloomington, Ind., Edward Beacher of Virginia; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Neuberger, Joan

Joan Neuberger, of Nokomis, died Saturday, July 10, in Pana Community Hospital. She was 70 years old on July 4. She was a teacher in the Nokomis School District before she retired, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Nokomis. She was born in Quincy, a daughter of Cahrles A. and Marjorie Berry Neuberger. No services are planned. Inurnment will be at a later date in Nokomis Cemetery. Sutton Funeral Home, Nokomis, is in charge of arrangements.

Newman, Letitia

Letitia Newman, sister of Irene Salato of Coffeen, died Tuesday, February 16, 1999, in Annaheim, Calif. She was 89 years old on March 9. She was born in Coffeen, a daughter of Anton and Domenica Salato, and graduated from Coffeen High School in 1927. She then attended St. Anthony dePadua School of Nursing, Chicago, and graduated in 1931. A registered nurse, she worked at St. Anthony Hospital for several years and later in hospitals in California. She married David Newman in 1937 in Chicago. He preceded her in death. Surviving also are four children, David, Jonathon and Joan Newman and Mary Villaneuva, all in California; and six grandchildren. Preceding her in death were brothers, Joseph and George Salato and sisters, Gabriella Olson and Lucile Wilson. Services were held in California with burial in Resurrection Cemetery in San Gabriel.

Newport, Ethelyn June

Services for centenarian Ethelyn June Newport, of Hillsboro, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Hillsboro United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Compton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the church. The family suggests memorials be directed to Hillsboro Public Library, Hillsboro United Methodist Church or Hillsboro Hospital. Mrs. Newport died at 5:30 this morning, Wednesday, September 2, 1998, in Coalton. She was 103 years old on June 9. She was a resident of Hillsboro since 1939 but had resided in many other places during her lifetime, including Ramsey, Nokomis and Litchfield. She taught school in Coffeen during World War I, having graduated from Hillsboro High School in the class of 1915. She was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church. She was born in Hillsboro, a daughter of William P. and Frances Vanderburg McCullers. She married Aaron Newport on May 9, 1919, after his return from World War I. The Rev. Ezra Keller presided over the ceremony in the Lutheran Church Manse in Hillsboro. He died February 25, 1966. Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy Bass and husband Arthur of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Dan Bass of Jackson, Mich., Perry N. Bass of Houston, Texas, Dr. Ma'Lynn Newport Feingold of Avon, Conn., Ann Bass of Ashland, Oregon, Robert A. Newport Jr. of Mesa, Ariz., Mary Lynn Bass of Kansas City, Mo., Robert N. Bass, of Melbourne, Fla.; and eight great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, Ret. Col., Robert A. Newport; brother, William McCullers; sisters, Anna Suits, LaVerne McCullers, Florence Virden and Dorothy Weingand.
