Mr. Ernest Howard Dennison
Ernest Howard “Denny” Dennison, Jr., 88, of Ellisville, Missouri died Saturday afternoon, January 20, 2001 in St. Louis. He was born on May 12, 1912 in Downing, Missouri the son of Ernest H. Dennison, Sr. and Lutie Randle Dennison. He married Lena Hammer on October 17, 1931 in LaSalle, Illinois and she currently resides in their home in Ellisville, Missouri.
Lt. Dennison is survived by three children: Randle (wife, Virginia) Dennison of Chesterfield, Missouri; Larry (wife, Luanne) Dennison of Creve Coeur, Missouri; and one daughter, Anita Dennison Johnson of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Mae Dennison, Ruth Elizabeth Rowe, and Thelma Irene Schupback.
Lt. Dennison graduated from High School in Downing, Missouri. He attended Culver Stockton College, N.M.S.T.C., and the International Police Acadamy at Northwestern University in Chicago.
In 1937, 7500 men applied for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and of this number, only 500 were chosen to take the mental and physical examinations. Lt. Dennison was one of only 36 chosen from this group of applicants to join the Patrol. He began his duty on July 1, 1937 in Kirkwood, Missouri, and served in troop headquarters in Unionville, Hannibal, Macon, and St. Louis. After 35 years of service tho the Patrol, Lt. Dennison and his wife retired to Sarasota, Florida in 1972. They returned to St. Louis in 1998.
Lt. Dennison was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Manchester, Missouri, Sons of the American Revolution, and the Masonic Lodge of Hannibal, Missouri. He organized the first adult men’s Sunday School class (King’s Men) at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hannibal.
Lt. Dennison competed throughout the United States and Canada in Senior Olympic and Athletic Competitions from 1988-1999, beginning at the age of 76. During that time he won 170 Gold Medals, 48 Silver, and 16 Bronze. He competed in Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, and Weight Throw. In 1989, he set the U.S. Senior Olympic record in the Shot Put at Washington University in St. Louis. In 1992, he set the Canadian National Olympic record for the Weight Throw.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Arenzville, Illinois, with burial at St Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Manchester, Missouri. The Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.

Anna Doris Dick (Ferguson)
Anna Doris Dick, 79, of Jacksonville and formerly of Kankakee, died Monday evening, November 20, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital. She was born on July 17, 1921 in Harrisburg, Kentucky.
She is survived by two daughters, Lois Meents of Jacksonville and Ruth (husband, Mark) Long of Clifton; one son, Jeff (wife, Jo) Dick of Rolling Meadows; seven grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Dick had been a nurse in the Kankakee area. After retirement, she worked assisting senior citizens.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home. Private burial services will be held in Kankakee. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Irene Kathryn Dickins (Engelbrecht)
Irene Kathryn Venna (Engelbrecht) Dickins, 96, of rural Bluffs died Saturday morning November 11, 2000 at her home.
She was born April 20, 1904 in Morgan County the daughter of Dick and Lizzie (Koke) Engelbrecht.
She married Alvin Joseph Dickins August 20, 1924 at the Trinity Lutheran Parsonage. He preceded her in death May 19, 1987.
Also preceding her in death was her brother Russell Fargo and her son-in-law Cyril D. Wardle.
Surviving is her son Thomas (wife Helen) Dickins of Chapin and her daughter Laverne Wardle of Bluffs, sister-in-law Helen Fargo of Bluffs. 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dickins was a homemaker and farmed with her husband. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Arenzville. For many years she was a member of Willing Workers. She loved to quilt, but most of all she loved her family and being a grandma.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday (November 14, 2000) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Arenzville. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery at St. Paul’s Church near Chapin.
Friends may call after 3:00 PM Monday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester where the family will meet with friends from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Visiting Nurses of West Central Illinois, Meredosia Rescue Squad or Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Mr. Raymond Dirksmeyer
Raymond Dirksmeyer, 76, of Carrollton was died at 6:15 P.M. on Tuesday
Dec. 19, 2000 at Reisch Memorial Nursing Home in Carrollton.
Born in Kampsville on Nov. 22, 1924 he was the son of the late John M.
and Josephine Ewen Dirksmeyer.
On August 2, 1952 he married the former Carmelita Becker in Kampsville
and she survives. Also surviving are 4 daughters: Mrs. Fred “Jackie”
Clifford of Murrayville, Mrs. Rick “Judy” Kastler of DeKalb, Mrs. Earl
“Joan” Davis of Riverton and Jean Dirksmeyer and her friend Renee Cabrara
of Springfield. 2 sons survive: John (wife-Debbie) Dirksmeyer of Carrollton
and David (wife-Karen) Dirksmeyer of Beardstown. 11 grandchildren and a
sister Lucille Funk of Glen Carbon also survive.
Mr. Dirksmeyer had worked for over 50 years as processing supervisor
for Columbiana Seed Co., later Seed Tech and later Agri-Pro. He was a
member of St. John’s Catholic Church and a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in both WWII and the Korean Conflict.
He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Thursday at the Airsman-Hires
Funeral Home in Carrollton with a prayer service at 6 P.M. Mass will be
celebrated on Friday at 10 A.M. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton
with burial to follow at Eldred Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials
may be made to Reisch Memorial Nursing Home or the Blessing Hospice of
Green e Co.

Mr. Stanley Stewart Dobson
Stanley Stewart Dobson, 93, of Winchester and Alsey died early Monday morning (May 29, 2000) at Jacksonville Convalescent Center.
He was born March 5, 1907 in Scott County the son of the late John and Minnie Stewart Dobson.
He married Lorene Virginia Todd August 12, 1939 in Bowling Green , Missouri.
She preceded him in death October 26, 1997. Also preceding him in death was a brother Clarence Dobson and a sister Lucille Haney and a niece Caroline Nash.
Survivors include a sister in law Courtney Dobson, a nephew Donald Haney of rural Winchester and a niece Dorothy Wright of rural Roodhouse. 5 great nephews and 1 great niece and several great great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dobson attended Keller country school and Manchester High School. He had worked in the Alsey Refractories mine and helped farm in the area. He owned and operated his own trucking company for many years hauling clay, tile and brick for area companies.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday at Bowers Cemetery near Alsey.
Memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s choice.
The Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Arthur William Doepel
Arthur William Doepel, 93, of Pittsfield and formerly of Detroit died early Sunday morning June 4, 2000 at Pittsfield Health Care.
He was born January 2, 1907 in Lutherville, Arkansas the son of Frank and Anna Marie Kauffeld Doepel.
He married Ruby Lucille Walker February 24, 1932 in Jacksonville. She preceded him in death February 18, 2000.
Also preceding him in death was an infant son Robert Frank Doepel and 3 sisters and 5 brothers.
Surviving is a daughter Mrs. Lewis (Anna Bell) Dawdy of rural Pittsfield, 5 grandchildren, Gary (wife Melissa) Shipley of New Berlin, Mrs. Eugene (Kathy) Meyer of Pittsfield, Bobby (wife Barb) Shipley of Winchester, Bruce (wife Jody) Shipley of Winchester and Larry Shipley of Roodhouse. 9 great grandchildren 2 great great grandchildren, several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Doepel attended school in Arkansas and moved to this area in 1928 where he farmed in the Scott and Pike Counties area until he retired.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery northwest of Winchester.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Bloomfield Cemetery.

Murle Edwin Dolen
Murle E. Dolen, 84 of Winchester died Monday afternoon (February 26, 2001) at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield.
He was born May 1, 1916 in Winchester the son of the late Robert and Molly Quinn Dolen.
He married Grace Claywell December 3, 1938 in Bowling Green , Missouri. She survives at home.
Also surviving are his children Judith Bender of St. Louis, MO, Ed (wife Jeanette) Dolen of Winchester, Connie (husband Steve) Nestler of Elmhurst, Shirley Wright-Jacquot (husband Bill) of Winchester and Bob Dolen of Winchester.
4 grandchildren Kirsten Nestler, Troy Dolen, Justin Wright and Ashlyn Jacquot. A sister Mary Jane (husband Dave) Davis of San Antonio, Texas.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Frank Dolen and a sister Anna Margaret Blackburn.
Mr. Dolen was employed by Illinois Rural Electric Company as a Field Engineer for 35 years retiring in 1978. He was a 1934 graduate of Winchester High School. He had been a member of the Farm Bureau and of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Pioneer Lodge 70 in Winchester.
He enjoyed playing cards and dancing.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday (March 1, 2001) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.
Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Friends may call on at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Winchester EMS or to the donors choice.

Verna Dorks (Kinser)
Verna L. Dorks, 78, of White Hall died at 11:07 P.M. on Saturday Sept. 2,
2000 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Born in White Hall on Jan. 1, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Carl
Stanley and Bertha Suttles Kinser.
She was married to John E. Dorks who survives her.
Also surviving are 1 daughter: Mrs. Mike “Doris” Brant of Sparta and 3
sons: Donald (wife-Karla) Dorks of Girard, Darrell Dorks of White Hall and
Dennis Dorks of White Hall. There are 9 grandchildren and 3 great
grandchildren surviving.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by
all.
Private services will be held with burial in Kinser Cemetery near White
Hall. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Assn. or the American
Diabetes Foundation. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall is in
charge of arrangements.

Mr. John E. Dorks
John E. Dorks, age 84, of White Hall, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000
at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born Sept. 19, 1916 in Athensville, the son of Herbert and
Frances Marlin Dorks.
He married Verna L. Kinser and she preceded him in death on Sept. 2,
2000.
He is survived by three sons, Donald (wife, Karla) Dorks of Girard;
Darrell Dorks and Dennis Dorks, both of White Hall; one daughter, Mrs.
Mike (Doris) Brant of Sparta; nine grandchildren, Don (wife, Michelle)
Dorks, Jr. of Auburn; Darren Dorks of Vandalia, MO; Angela (husband,
Mick) Madison of Springfield; Dan (wife, Shannon) Dorks of Rockbridge;
Scott (wife, Melinda) Brant of O’Fallon; Dawn (husband, Kyle) Lybarger of
Vandalia; Troy (wife, Andrea) Brant of Sparta; James Griffin of Springfield;
and Kari (husband, Jason) Hannah of Springfield; three great grandchildren,
Evan, Danielle and Kayla Dorks. He was preceded in death by one sister,
Ethel McWhorter.
Mr. Dorks farmed in the Walkerville area for nearly 35 years before
moving to White Hall and then worked at the White Hall Hospital for 17
years, retiring in 1987.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial in the Kinser
Cemetery west of White Hall. Family will meet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the
funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes
Association or the American Heart Association.
