Mr. Edward L. Freitag
Edward L. Freitag, 82, of Jacksonville died Monday evening, June 26, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born on October 16, 1917 in Morgan County the son of Samuel and Mabel Vensel Freitag. He first married Bessie Stewart and she preceded him in death. He later married Edith M. Powers on May 28, 1977 in Jacksonville and she also preceded him in death.
He is also survived by one daughter, Barbara (husband, Mike) Kennedy of Ashland, two grandsons, one sister, Wanda (husband, William) Harrison of Virginia, and one brother, Lee Freitag of Virginia. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Freitag had been a member of Laborers’ International Union of North American Local No. 253 for over 48 years and had at one time served as Local No. 253 President. He served in the United States Army, 6th Armored Tank Division during World War II. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with the family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Allen E. Fry
Allen E. Fry, 85, of Meredosia died Saturday evening, November 11, 2000 at his residence. He was born on August 17, 1915 in Naples the son of Jacob Wilbur and Jeanette Fulks Fry. He married Anna Thompson and she preceded him in death on June 16, 1955. He later married Wilma Cooper and she preceded him in death on January 12, 1997.
He is survived by two sons, David (wife, Becky) Fry and Larry Fry, both of Jacksonville; one daughter, Kim (husband, Donnie) Isenhower of Hollister, Missouri; two step-daughters, Pat (husband, Joe) Caldwell of Jacksonville and Pam (husband, Mike) Metzger of Mt. Sterling; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bessie Jane Boiseranc of California. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Fry was a machinist for Chapin Cylinder Head prior to his retirement in 1980. He enjoyed fishing and playing musical instruments. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Chapin Cemetery. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Meredosia Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Dorothy J. Fuller (Judd)
Dorothy J. Fuller, age 95, of New Hartford, Ill. died Thursday morning (December 7, 2000) at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill..
She was born August 2, 1905 in New Canton, Ill. daughter of the late Ben and Eliza Monroe Judd.
She married Ulysses Grant Fuller and he preceded her in death on November 12, 1966.
Surviving are close friends, Dennis Burnett of Rockport, Ill. and his parents, Charles and Delia Burnett of Summer Hill, Ill.; and many other friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Hurst Judd.
Mrs. Fuller, at one time, operated a restaurant in Kinderhook, Ill. and was a self-employed cleaning lady. She enjoyed flower gardening and cooking.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 9, 2000) at Shearer Cemetery near New Canton, Ill. with Rev. Bob Morwell officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Griggsville Estates c/o the funeral home. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tressie P. Furlong (Joplin)
Tressie P. Furlong, 94, of Jacksonville died early Monday morning, June 26, 2000 at Villa Health Care East in Sherman. She was born on July 14, 1905 in Logan, Illinois the daughter of Daniel and Ellander Smothers Joplin. She married George E. Furlong on December 28, 1924 in Logan and he preceded her in death on December 2, 1974.
She is survived by four sons, Eldon “Bob” (wife, Laverne) Furlong and Jack (wife, Lois) Furlong, both of St. Louis, Earl (wife, Sue) Furlong of Athens, and Jerry (wife, Sharon) Furlong of Sherman; three daughters, Jeanne (husband, Clayton) Stephenson of Murrayville, Sharon Furlong of Taylors, South Carolina, and Pamela Furlong of Del Ray Beach, Florida; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Maxine Young, five brothers, and one sister.
Mrs. Furlong was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Melines Nursing Home. Following retirement, she did volunteer work at several nursing homes in the Jacksonville area. She was a member of the Assembly of God, Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2000 at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with the family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to New Heights Fellowship in Peoria.

Larry Gene Gansz
Larry Gene Gansz, 58, of Bluffs formerly of Green e Co. died at 11 A.M.
on Sunday Sept. 17, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
Born on August 29, 1942 in Bluffdale Twp. he was the son of the late Fred
A. and Elsie E. Swearingin Gansz.
Surviving are his wife Sharon, 2 daughters: Sheila Breeden of Beardstown
and Becky Moore of Springfield. A son Randy Gansz of Arizona also
survives as does 4 grandchildren and 5 sisters: Erma Hall of Jerseyville,
Wanda Behringer of Shipman, Mary Zimmerman of Lyna Grove, Ky., Judy
Beckman of Jacksonville and Brenda Gilbert of Missouri. There are 3
brothers surviving: Gary Gansz of Winchester, Fred Gansz of East Alton and
Darrell Gansz of Jerseyville.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: David and Gerald Gansz.
Graveside rites will be held on Friday at 2 P.M. at the Providence
Cemetery east of Carrollton. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home is in charge.

Mildred Ladd Garrison (Giberson)
Mildred Ladd Garrison, 79, of Carrollton died at 9:50 A.M. on Wednesday at
the Skyview Manor Nursing Home in Jacksonville.
Born in Kane on April 29, 1921 she was the daughter of the late Andrew
and Martha Fessler Giberson.
She first married Victor “Picky” Ladd in 1940 in St. Charles, Mo. and he
preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1977. She then married Paul Garrison on
Oct. 1, 1984 in Bowling Green , Mo. and he survives.
Also surviving are 4 step-daughters: Carol Loy of Jacksonville, Mabel
Thuer of Carrollton, Martha Axley of Carrollton and Judy Garrison of
Carlinville, several step grand and great grandchildren. A sister Dorothy
Linenfelser of Livingston and a brother Francis Giberson of Girard also
survive.
Mrs. Garrison was a member of the Kane Baptist Church. She loved life
and she will be missed by family and friends.
Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. on Friday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral
Home in Carrollton where services will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday with
Rev. Jon Lobos officiating. Burial will be in the Kane Cemetery and
memorials are suggested to the Kane Baptist Church.

Mrs. Vivian Fern Gibbs
Vivian Fern Gibbs, of Modesto, died Thursday, September 21, 2000 at Sunshine Manor in Carlinville. She was born August 30, 1906, in North Otter Township, Macoupin County, the daughter of James Henry Hammer Jr. and Nellie Rae Jenkins Hammer. She married Ralph E. Gibbs on June 27, 1925 in Edwardsville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1991.
Surviving are: one son, Marvin (wife, Jo Ann) Gibbs of Modesto, one daughter, Marjorie (husband, Loren) Hunt of Carlinville; one sister, Alma (husband, Riley) Mack of Carlinville, eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one step great-grandson; two great-great grandchildren; one niece and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one sister, Pauline, in childhood; and one great-grandson; Jimmy Quarton.
Mrs. Gibbs was a member of the Modesto Christian Church, a past member of the Modesto Household Science Club, the Willing Workers, and Terry Park Community Club.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2000 at the Stults – Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra, with Rev. Keith Warner officiating. Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. Saturday with the family meeting friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra. Memorials are suggested to Modesto Christian Church or Northwestern Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Anna Mildred Gibler (Damm)
Anna Mildred Gibler, 92, of Jerseyville formerly of Green e Co. was
pronounced dead at 9:16 A.M. on Nov. 30, 2000 at her residence
unexpectedly.
Born near Rockbridge on May 1, 1908 she was the daughter of the late
Elias and Anna E. Winters Damm.
She first married Roy Powell who preceded her in death in 1944. She
later married Harold “Bud” Gibler in Carlinville on Sept. 15, 1953 and he
preceded her in death on March 30, 1994.
She is survived by a brother Ernie Daum of Green field and several
nieces and nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by a sister: Bernice Weisner and 2
brothers: Carl Damm and Ebert Damm.
Visitation will be from 10 A.M. on Saturday until service time at 11
A.M. at the White Hall Cemetery in White Hall, Ill. Airsman-Hires Funeral
Home in Carrollton is in charge.

Mr. Charles William "Bill" Giger
Charles William "Bill" Giger, 78, of Pittsfield, died in his home on December 29, 2000.
He was born December 19, 1922 on a farm near Time, Illinois. The family later moved to a farm near Detroit, Illinois where he attended a nearby Liberty grade school. He attended high school in Pittsfield, Illinois. In January 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was initially assigned on a destroyer escorting supply convoys across the Atlantic to the Allies in Europe. When the U.S. declared war on Japan he was transferred to an Attack Troop Transport Carrier, the U.S.S. Barnett, to begin the Pacific island invasion campaign. Also, on the Barnett he saw action in the North African, Italian and Normandy invasion campaigns. He ended WWII on a Tank Landing ship in the invasion of Okinawa, Japan. He rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and his highest personal combat award was the Silver Star. After his discharge he returned to Pike County, Illinois to transition to a farming career.
On October 27, 1946 he was married to Isabel McEwan of Blairmore, Scotland whom he had met and dated prior to the North African and Normandy invasions. They had three sons, Charles, Phillip and Sam and five grandchildren. In addition to farming he worked in the masonry trade; he and Isabel owned and operated knitting shops in Pittsfield and Jacksonville, Illinois; and he completed his working career with the Secretary State of Illinois.
After retirement Bill and Isabel enjoyed traveling and winters in Rockport, Texas. Bill was an Elder, Deacon and board member in the First Christian Church of Pittsfield, twice a commander of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post, an American Legion member, a charter member of the Abraham Lincoln chapter of People to People, and an active Hospice volunteer in Texas and Illinois. Bill was preceded in death by his father and mother, Floyd and Mabel (Caughlan); sister Virginia and brother Don. He is survived by sisters June Stevens and Marge Lotz and brother Paul (Jim) Giger all living in Florida.
Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Pittsfield First Christian Church with burial immediately following at the West Cemetery in Pittsfield. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home where family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m.. Memorials are suggested in his name to the WWII Memorial, 2300 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington, VA 22201 or call (800) 639-4WW2; or the Pike County Blessing Hospice both c/o the funeral home.

Mr. Joseph "Joe" Gilleland
Joseph “Joe” Gilleland, 86, of Carrollton died on Sunday August 6, 2000
at 10:50 P.M. at the Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Born in Eldred on July 30, 1914 he was the son of the late Raymond C.
and Nellie Mae Brannan Gilleland.
He married the former Millie Herring on June 22, 1933 in Carrollton and
she preceded him in death on June 5, 1996. Surviving are:
a daughter- Barb Robinson of Carrollton and a son Joe David Gilleland of
Carrollton. There are 4 grand and 2 great-grandchildren and a sister Velma
Seibold of Cottage Hills.
He was preceded in death by a brother Russell Gilleland and a sister
Roberta Acord.
Mr. Gilleland had served a Carrollton Twp. Road Commissioner for many
years and had worked for the township over 30 years.
Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until service time at 11 A.M. on
Wednesday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial will be
in the Carrollton City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American
Heart Assn.

Mrs. Betty J. Gillespie
Betty J. Gillespie, 89, of Jacksonville died early Wednesday morning, August 2, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital. She was born May 14, 1911 in Knifely, Kentucky, the daughter of Alvin and Effie Bottoms Hardwick. She married Willard Tranbarger in 1928 and later married Wade Gillespie on October 2, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1970.
Surviving are two sons: Jack Tranbarger of Jacksonville and Robert (wife, JoAnn) Tranbarger of Sacramento, California; one stepson: James Gillespie of Sacramento, California; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by twin daughters in infancy and several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Gillespie was a homemaker and especially enjoyed quilting.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin. The family will meet friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Williamson Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Ms. Bessie E. Gilman
Bessie E. Gilman, age 98, of Pittsfield, Ill. and formerly of Winchester, Ill. died early Tuesday morning (November 21, 2000) at Pittsfield HealthCare Center in Pittsfield, Ill..
She was born April 28, 1902 in Bluffs, Ill. daughter of the late John and Effie Brown Gilman.
Surviving is a granddaughter, Verna Lee Litton of Aurora, Colorado; a sister, Mrs. Harold (Ruth) Reichert of Pittsfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Otis Vernon Gilman; two sisters, Ethel Six and Lula Crum; and two brothers, Howard Gilman and Kenneth Gilman.
Ms. Gilman was employed as a cook in Evanston, Ill. for Dr. Seth Brown for many years before moving to Scott County, Illinois. Later she was employed by the Hainsfurther family in Winchester, Ill. as a cleaning lady for many years. She loved to do embroidery and was a member of the Undenominational Church.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday (November 24, 2000) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester, Ill. with Walter Knochenmus and Dale Parker officiating. Burial will be in Winchester City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
