Betty Kropf

STERLING -- Betty L. Kropf, 75, died February 10, 2007, at Sterling Pavilion. Betty died of cancer, which was discovered a few weeks ago. She was born on August 24, 1931, the daughter of Earl and Lorene (Brunk) Henderson. Betty married Milo E. Kropf on September 6, 1951. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Milo, and granddaughter Faith Boettner. Survivors include her children; Jeanette (Steve) Boettner of German Valley, Merlin of Sterling, Sally of Dixon, Sandra of Rock Falls, Ann (Bob) Kurtz of Freeport, Rita (Derrick) Miller of Freeport, Dale of Des Plaines, and Noland of Davenport. 24 Grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She has one brother, Ansel Henderson of Ohio.

Betty always had a smile on her face. She loved to talk and visit with family and friends. She was a very giving person that would always want to help others. When it came to hobbies, she would always be knitting up some project for someone or creating something with her plastic canvas and yarn. Baking cookies for family and friends was also a way for Betty to put a smile on their faces. During her younger years, Betty would always have a flower garden that would make the air pleasing to smell and beautiful to see. When you went in the house, you were always greeted with Betty’s friend, Tigger, who always wanted to be petted.

Mom will be missed very much by her children, grandchildren, brother, relatives, and friends. Visitation will be Monday February 12, 2007 from 5-8 P.M. at the Schilling Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 A.M. Tuesday February 13, 2007 at Science Ridge Mennonite Church at. Burial will be at Science Ridge Mennonite Church cemetery for the family members and close friends.

A memorial has been established.

Domitilla E. Herrig Cerjan

Born on May 18, 1920 the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Tuberty) Molloy of Albert Lea, Minnesota at Navee Hospital.

Graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1937. Domie received her B.S. degree from Winona State Teachers College. She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed bowling, bridge and crossword puzzles.

She married Dr. Joseph Herrig September 1, 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1956. Together they had three children, Jane (Dan) Melton, of Bellevue, Iowa; Charles (Janet) Herrig, Cottage Grove, Minnesota; and Katherine (Richard) Schroeder, who preceded her in death on February 14, 1999.

She married Anthony M. Cerjan in 1957. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1997. Together they had two daughters; Susan (Bill) De Souza of Wentzville, Missouri, and Margaret (Gary) Weidler of St. Simons Island, Georgia.

Domitilla taught English literature at Morrison Community High School from 1970 until her retirement in 1982. Prior to teaching in Morrison, she taught at Dubuque Senior and Hempstead High School, Dubuque, Iowa, and Andrew High School in Andrew, Iowa.

Six grandchildren: Molly (Brent) Grover of Dubuque, Iowa, Christopher (Rhonda) Melton of Missoula, Montana, Jessica (Andy) Espinoza of Chicago, Illinois, Anthony Herrig of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Benjamin (Carly) Herrig of Chicago, Illinois, and Andrew Schroeder of Chicago, Illinois.

Three great-grand children: Cory Grover, Payton Grover, and Cameron Matz.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the The Domitilla Cerjan Scholarship Fund to be set up at Morrison High School.

A visitation will be held at St Anne’s Episcopal Church on Friday February 9th from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday at 10:30 at St Anne’s.

INA L. SHIPMAN

Ina L. Shipman, 93, of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, February 06, 2007 at Rock Falls Rehabilitation Center. She had been employed as a packer and instructor for 36 years at Lawrence Brothers until retiring in 1979.

Mrs. Shipman was born September 2, 1913 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of John H. and Flora E. (Hileman) Apple. She married Vernon C. Shipman on December 26, 1978 in Rock Falls. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2002. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Rock Falls.

Surviving are five step-daughters, Linda Lou Shipman of Decatur, Linda Sue (Kenneth) Ebright of Dayton, OH, Rosemary (Chris) Stark of Des Moines, IA, Sally (Marc) Perkowitz of Arlington Heights, Kitty Keime of Rock Falls; five step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM, Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling with Reverend Brian Moore, Pastor of the First Christian Church, Walnut, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 PM, Thursday.

A memorial has been established to the First Christian Church, Rock Falls.

MELBA L. BLUMER

Melba L. Blumer, 89 of Morrison, died Monday, February 5, 2007 at Resthave Retirement and Nursing Home. She and her husband farmed in the area.

Mrs. Blumer was born August 24, 1917 in Humansville, MO, the daughter of Robert and Velma (Woods) Webb. She married George W. Blumer on May 3, 1947 in Muscatine, IA. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded by three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Wesley S. Dickson, Pastor of Coleta United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Bethel cemetery, Milledgeville. Visitation will be from 9-10 AM, Saturday at the Funeral Home

KRISTINE ANN WIRE

ROCK FALLS - Kristine Ann Wire, 53, died unexpectedly, Monday, February 05, 2007 at her home. She was employed by Illinois Department of Transportation in Dixon since 1971 and for the past several years held the position of executive secretary for the Bureau of Local Roads and Streets.

Kristine was born April 20, 1953 in Sterling, the daughter of Richard H. and June A. (Coats) Gibbs. She married Jeffery A. Wire on May 3, 1975 at East Jordan Methodist Church. He preceded her in death in June of 1980.

Survivors include her mother of Polo; a brother, Marty Gibbs of Polo and her dog, Jake.

She was also preceded in death by her father in 1981.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling with Reverend Roger Carlson, Pastor of Berean Baptist Church, Rock Falls, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Wednesday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

A memorial has been established.

Keith E. Lester

Rock Falls - Keith E. Lester, 89, died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at his home. He was in the local carpenters union for over 50 years specializing in floor covering.

Mr. Lester was born April 1, 1917 in Rock Falls, the son of S. Lloyd and Edna (Eshleman) Lester. He married Edith M. Noon March 1, 1941 in Rock Falls. She preceded him in death April 29, 2001. As a corporal in the US Marine Corp he served during WWII in the Asian Theater. He was a 50 year member of Rock Falls Christian Church.

Survivors are two sons, Roger (Joan) Lester of Forsyth, Paul (Daretta) Lester of Blytheville, AR; five grandchildren Mark (Katie) Lester, Jeffrey Lester, Kimberly (Eric) Benting, Hollie (Mark) Bosarge, Heidi Lester; and three great-grandchildren Hailey and Whitney Benting, and Andrew Lester.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth White and a brother, John.

Services will be held at 10 A.M Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend April McClure Stewart of First Christian Church of Rock Falls officiating. Burial will be 1 P.M. Thursday with Military Rights at the Tampico Memorial cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7, Tuesday, January 30th at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

A memorial has been established to the Rock Falls Christian Church and Sauk Valley Marine Corps detachment.

NINA ORIENNE MANGAN

ROSWELL, GA - Nina Orienne Mangan, formerly of Sterling, died Monday, January 15, 2007 on her 81st birthday at Sunrise Assisted Living after an illness.

Mrs. Mangan was born January 15, 1926 in Huntsville, MO, the daughter of Clarence and Ora Catherine (Henry) Walters. She married John Mangan May 30, 1948 in Sterling. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2005. She was a devoted wife and mother all her life. She and John enjoyed golfing, bridge, and travel before retiring to Orlando, Florida.

Survivors are two daughters, Kay (Benjamin) Sharpton of Roswell, GA, and Jeri (Daniel) Klepp of Hubertus, WI; 4 grandchildren Matthew Klepp, Amanda Rasmuson, Nicole Sharpton, and Jonathon Sharpton, and 3 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one brother Hugh Walters, two sisters Eula Sears and Anna Cramer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 19, 2007 at with Reverend Christine Gilbert of the First United Methodist Church, Sterling officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling on Thursday, January 18, 2007.

A memorial has been established.

OSCAR CHAN J. FREY

STERLING – Oscar Chan J. Frey, 56, died Monday, January 8, 2007 at his home. He was a machinist for General Electric for over 30 years.

Mr. Frey was born October 6, 1950 in Sterling, the son of Oscar and Blanche (Messmer) Frey. He served in the US Army. He attended Bethel Reformed Church in Sterling.

Survivors are his mother of Rock Falls; two sisters, Donna (Frank) Seibert of Blue Grass, IA, and Bonnie (Richard) Decker of Rock Falls.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, January 13, 2007, at Bethel Reformed Church, Sterling with Reverend Kenneth Zuithoff, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM, Friday at the Schilling Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established to Bethel Reformed Church.

KATHERINE “KATHY” J. DRYNAN

STERLING - Katherine “Kathy” J. Drynan, 60 of Sterling, died Friday, January 5, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends in Madison, Wisconsin.

Kathy was born December 17, 1946 in Sterling, the daughter of Lloyd and Martha (Genster) Klocke. She married Leland A. Drynan on August 23, 1969 in Sterling. She was employed at Peterson Insurance for thirty-five years where she greatly enjoyed her work and all the people she met as a personal lines manager. She was a member of Women’s Insurance and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sterling and was active in the Why Catholic group.

Survivors include her husband, Leland of Sterling; her mother Martha Klocke of Sterling; two sisters, Barbara (Thomas) Luther of Madison, WI and Martie (Thomas) Kojis of Green Bay, WI; nieces and nephews; an extended family of close friends and her dog Bugsy.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Maricarole Jenner and her father, Lloyd “Sonny” Klocke.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sterling with the Reverend Paul Lipinski officiating. Burial will be at Calvary cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling and Thursday from 9:30 -10:30 AM at the church.

Kathy enjoyed summers on the river, vacation cruises, dancing, cooking for friends and especially making others laugh. Her positive attitude and spirit will forever live on in our memories.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Kathy’s name.

JERRY G. KENNEY

MT. MORRIS - Jerry G. Kenney, 66, died Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at his home of natural causes. He was the owner of Kenney Insurance Agency in Dixon and Mt. Morris for 42 years.

Mr. Kenney was born July 15, 1940 in Sterling, the son of Fred and (Lucille Rhodes) Kenney. He served in the Air Force.

Surviving are three sons; Fred (Jen) Kenney of Oregon, Scott (Carrie) Kenney of Sterling and Charles (Julyne) Kenney of Cortland, one daughter, Rosalie (Lonnie) Feary of Polo, one brother; James (Anne) Kenney of Sterling, one sister; Sue (Walter) Smith of Sterling and 9 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 8, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Christine Gilbert pastor officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be 1-3 PM, Sunday, January 7 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.

MARA C. DUDLEY

Sterling - Mara C. “Bunny” Dudley, 90, of Sterling, died Monday, January 1, 2007 at Coventry Living Center. She was employed as a clerk for Dodge Manufacturing for 20 years.

Mrs. Dudley was born March 1, 1916 in Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of William and Ruth (Otterbein) Beghtel. She married Harl W. Dudley on September 29, 1934 in South Bend, IN. He died December 28, 1979. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Sterling.

Survivors are a daughter, Eloise (Kenneth) Murray of Brewster, MA; a son, Donald (Betty Lou) Dudley of Morrison, four sisters, Dorothy Billey of South Bend, IN, Meryl Cowan of Denver, CO, June Pridachuck of Seattle, WA, Jeanette Brown of Chicago; and nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Bernard and Roy Beghtel.

Services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, January 4, 2007, at First Baptist Church, Sterling with Reverend John Kermott, Pastor, officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM at the Church. Arrangements were completed by the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling

CHRISTOPHER ALAN HUNTER

STERLING -- Christopher Alan Hunter, 36, died Sunday, December 24, 2006. He was an apprentice high lineman.

Christopher was born August 29, 1970 in Sterling, the son of Donald and Mary Jo (Britt) Hunter.

Survivors include two sons, Jeremy and Justin Hunter of Rock Falls; his parents, Donald and Mary Jo Hunter of Sterling; a sister, Jennasue (John) Stinson of Ft. Riley, KS; a brother, J.D. (Jessica) Hunter of Newport News, VA; maternal grandparents, Jim and Sue Britt of Morrison and paternal grandmother, Bethel McBride of Sterling.

He was preceded in death by a paternal grandmother, Jennalee Hunter.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 29, 2006 at Schilling Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Schilling Funeral Home.
