Betty M. Bruce
Betty Marie Bruce died Tuesday afternoon, October 6, 1998, at Columbus Regional Hospital. A resident of that city, she was 61.
Mrs. Bruce left survivors in Brown County.
She was born November 21, 1936, in Columbus to Marshall and Marie Kreinhagen Lucas.
She and James E. Bruce were married July 11, 1954. He died January 24, 1991.
Mrs. Bruce had worked at the Bartholomew County Public Library for 16 years.
She attended East Columbus Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Bruce was an avid bingo player.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Dale Bruce of Columbus; two daughters, Jane Marie Petro and Patty Ann Bunton, both of Columbus; seven brothers, Carl Lucas of Memphis, Tennessee, Eddie Lucas of New Castle, Wesley Lucas of Shelbyville, Leslie Lucas and James Lucas, both of Columbus, Fredie Lucas of Nashville, and Mike Lucas of Franklin; six sisters, Bertha Winn of Columbus, Rosie Hatchett of Indianapolis, Donna Cripe of Florida, Judy Comingore of Bloomington, Diane Mitchell of Taylorsville, and Brenda Johns of Columbus; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Paulette Comingore.
The Reverend Leslie Beardon conducted a service Friday, October 9, at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home in Columbus.
Burial was in that community's Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Ruby J. Downey
Ruby J. Osborne Downey, the mother of Morgantown resident Delores Griffin, died Friday, October 9, 1998, at Morgan County Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. A resident of that city, she was 81.
Mrs. Downey was born December 21, 1916, in Blackwater, Virginia to Peter H. and Cornie L. Fletcher Davis.
She was married to Leonard H. Osborne. He died in 1965.
Mrs. Downey was a homemaker.
She was a member of Life Church of God in Morgan County.
Other survivors include a son, David Osborne of Indianapolis; three other daughters, Anna Ridener and Deborah Collins, both of Martinsville, and Donna Tillberry of Brooklyn; three brothers, Paul Davis of Martinsville, Richard Davis of Ripon, Wisconsin and William Davis of Crawfordsville; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Downey was preceded in death by a son, Arnold Osborne; two brothers, Marvin Davis and Cecil Davis; a sister, Virgie Laposa; and a grandchild.
A service was conducted Monday, October 12, at Shumaker Cemetery in Eminence.
Costin Funeral Home in Martinsville was in charge of arrangements.

Howard Fischvogt
Former area resident Howard Max Fischvogt died Monday, October 5, 1998 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
A resident of that city, he was 62.
Mr. Fischvogt was born December 14, 1935, in Columbus to Frank and Clara Fischvogt.
His widow, Janice Fischvogt, survives in Arkansas.
Mr. Fischvogt had worked at the Weyerhaeuser Company in Hot Springs for 30 years until retiring in 1990.
After retirement, he moved back to Bartholomew County.
Mr. Fischvogt later moved to Little Rock, where he owned and operated Wild Bird Unlimited until 1997.
He was active with Habitat for Humanity and other outdoor volunteer work.
Mr. Fischvogt was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Little Rock.
Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kimberly Fischvogt of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; a daughter and son-in-law, Candy and Paul Lovett of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; a brother, Norval Fischvogt of Columbus and two sisters, Mary Anne Collins of Naples, Florida and Lorene Workinger of Sarasota, Florida; and five grandchildren, Greg Parris, Laura Parris, Cassidy Johnson, Lauren Lovett,. and Timothy Fischvogt.
He is also survived by Lee and Kim Parris of Cabot, Arkansas and Ray and Jill Johnson of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Mr. Fischvogt was preceded in death by his parents.
Pastor Dan Schepmann led a service Thursday, October 8, at Christ Lutheran Church.
Burial was at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Ruebel Funeral Home in Little Rock was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 800 Scott Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72201, or Lutheran High School, 315 South Hughes, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205.

Dorothy Floyd
Dorothy Maxine Rehmel Floyd died Saturday morning, October 10, 1998, at Ohio Pythian Home in Springfield, Ohio. She was 77.
Mrs. Floyd was born April 20, 1921, in Sullivan County to Ora O. Rehmel and Leona F. Railsback.
She and Thurle C. Floyd were married October 24, 1956. He died October 31, 1993.
Mrs. Floyd was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Kevin Floyd of Springfield, Ohio; three step-daughters, Mary Ann Penn, Judith Ann Hanselman and Darlene Sue Flores; a sister, Lois G. Wertz of Springfield, Ohio; a brother, Orvan L. Rehmel of Coalmont; and several step-grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
The Reverend James McCallie conducted a service Tuesday, October 13, at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.
Burial was in Brown County's Duncan Cemetery.

Mary E. Hoten
Mary E. Horner Hoten died Sunday, October 11, 1998, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.
A resident of Leavenworth, she was 86.
Mrs. Hoten left many survivors in Brown County.
She was born May 17, 1912, in Fredericks-burg to Charles Elmer and Maggie M. Pen-nington Horner.
She was married to Shelby F. Hoten for more than 60 years. He died February 27, 1998.
Mrs. Hoten had worked at Old Welcore Company in New Albany before retiring.
She was a member of the Milltown United Methodist Church.
During visits to Brown County, Mrs. Hoten attended services at Unity Baptist Church in Hamblen Township.
Survivors include two sons, George O. Hoten of Leavenworth and Charles E. Hoten of Fredericksburg; a daughter, Ellen M. Gaither of Upper Salt Creek Road; two sisters, Edna Byrne and Esther Horner, both of Fredericksburg; 16 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
The Reverend Monty Mahoney conducted a service Tuesday, October 13, at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey.
Burial was in Kays Chapel Cemetery at Fredericksburg.

Virginia Hynes
Nashville resident Virginia Elizabeth Bonta Hynes died Thursday, October 8, 1998, at St. Francis Hospital and Health Centers in Beech Grove. She was 75.
Mrs. Hynes was born September 28, 1923, in Indianapolis to James H. and Sarah E. Darnell Bonta.
She and John F. Hynes were married June 15, 1940, in Indianapolis. He survives in Brown County.
Mrs. Hynes was a homemaker.
During World War II, she had worked as a precision inspector at Stewart Warner Company.
Mrs. Hynes attended George Washington High School in Indianapolis.
Other survivors include two sons, Jerry L. Hynes of Indianapolis and James P. Hynes of Morgantown; three daughters, Janine E. Cooper of Brownsburg, Janice M. Hynes of Indianapolis and Judy S. Reed of Terre Haute; two brothers, Robert Bonta and James Bonta, both of Indianapolis; a sister, Anna Kelso of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John F. Hynes IV; and three sisters, Thelma McKinney, Pauline Funkhouser and Nancy Greene.
The Reverend John Dunaway and the Reverend Burt Brock led a service Monday, October 12, at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home's State Road 135 Chapel.

Rebecca Knight
Rebecca A. Knight, the mother of Gatesville Road resident James Hobson, died Sunday, October 11, 1998, at her home in Orleans. She was 78.
Mrs. Knight was born November 27, 1919, in Orange County to Theodore and Ines Deweese Jones.
She was first married to Forrest Hobson. He preceded her in death. She then married Herschel Combs. He also preceded her in death.
Her third husband, Aden Knight, survives in Orange County.
Mrs. Knight was a homemaker.
She was a member of Stampers Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Other survivors include a daughter, Anne Henderson of Orleans; another son, Rovert Hobson of Cicero; four sisters, Ruby Pope and Marie Netherly, both of Bloomington, Alma Jean Royer of Ellettsville and Betty Jean Oakley of Paoli; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by two step-daughters, Joyce Spencer and Sondra Hamilton; a sister, Lillian Quinn; and four brothers, Noble Strother, Norman Jones, Tom Jones and Billy Jones.
Brother Mike Chastain led a service Tuesday, October 13, at McAdams Mortuary in Paoli.
Burial was in that community's Paoli Community Cemetery.

Vada B. Pruett
Nashville resident Vada B. Pruett died Thursday morning, October 8, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital. She was 84.
Mrs. Pruett was born July 16, 1914, in Muncie to Isaac Watts and Martha Plummer Watts.
She was married to Russell H. Pruett. He died in 1965.
Mrs. Pruett has lived in Brown County since January.
She had lived most of her life in Cammack, attending elementary schools there.
Mrs. Pruett was graduated from Yorktown High School.
She worked as a certified respiratory therapist at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
Mrs. Pruett was a member of the 20 Plus Club at Ball Memorial Hospital and New Burlington United Methodist Church.
She was a former member of the Cammack United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Russell Pruett of Nashville; a granddaughter, Jennie Pruett Brees of Muncie; a grandson, David Pruett of Brownsburg; and two great-grandchildren, Kelsey Pruett and Michael Pruett.
A service was conducted Sunday, October 11, at The Meeks Mortuary in Muncie.
Burial was in that community's Hawk Cemetery.

Ruby F. Voelz
Morgantown native Ruby F. Voelz died Thursday, October 8, 1998, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center. A resident of that city, she was 81.
Mrs. Voelz was born April 1, 1915, in Morgantown to J.C. and Betty Bada Routier.
She and Francis J. "Ace" Voelz were married April 5, 1941, in Columbus. He survives.
Mrs. Voelz was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Cummins Retired Employees and Kin Club.
Other survivors include a brother, Elmer Ray Routier of Amity; and three sisters, Ressie Whittaker of Spencer, Lucy Morgeson of Franklin and Opal Hamilton of Fairland.
Mrs. Voelz was preceded in death by six brothers; and three sisters.
The Reverend Robert W. Muncie led a service Monday, October 12, at Myers Funeral Service, Reed and Jewell Chapel in Columbus.
Entombment was in that city's Garland Brook Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bartholomew County, or the donor's choice of charities.
