Mary E. Renner
Morgantown resident Mary Emily Renner died Sunday, August 8, 1999, at Hearne Health Care Inn in that town. She was 96.
Mrs. Renner was born April 26, 1903, in Little Point to Henry Franklin and Ollie Mae Lopossa Smith.
She was married to Claude M. Renner. He died in 1976.
The Reverend William Miller led a service Tuesday morning, August 10, at Mahalasville Cemetery in rural Morgan County.
Costin Funeral Home in Martinsville was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dollars for Scholars, in care of Indian Creek High School, 803 West Indian Creek Drive, Trafalgar, Indiana 46181.

Mary Tucker
Mary K. Bruce Tucker died Wednesday morning, August 11, 1999, in Bloomington. A resident of that city, she was 84.
Mrs. Tucker was born April 19, 1915, in Monroe County to George and Emaline Goss Rush.
She first married Roy H. Bruce. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Edward Tucker.
David Beecham and Dan Dix led a service Saturday morning, August 14, at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene and Harrell Chapel in Bloomington.
Burial was in Monroe County’s Clear Creek Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bloomington.

Alma Wilkerson
Long-time Nashville resident Alma Wilkerson died Thursday, August 12, 1999, at Vencor in Indianapolis. She was 72.
Mrs. Wilkerson was born September 3, 1926, in Jeffersonville to Charles H. and Lucy W. Dowell Roller.
She and Dale W. Wilkerson were married December 4, 1943, in Nashville. He survives.
Mrs. Wilkerson was a homemaker.
The Reverend Leroy Collins conducted a service Monday afternoon, August 16, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in Johnson County’s Nineveh Cemetery.

Jonathan Baker
Georgetown Road resident Jonathan B. Baker died Monday morning, August 16, 1999, in Columbus. He was 23.
Mr. Baker was born January 2, 1976, in Columbus to John S. Baker and Paula J. Seitz Baker Kirts. His father survives in Rockville. His mother lives in Columbus.
He had worked at Taylor Brothers Construction. Mr. Baker was a former bricklayer apprentice with Local 4 of Indiana and Kentucky.
Mr. Baker was a member of Laborers International Union of North America.
He was the state’s champion motocross racer from 1981 until 1983.
Mr. Baker was graduated from Columbus East High School in 1994.
Other survivors include his step-father, Stan Kirts of Columbus; his step-mother, Sherry Baker of Rockville; two brothers, Skyler Kirts and Daniel Baker, both of Columbus; three sisters, Kimberly J. Baker of Columbus and Katie Rogers and Amanda Taylor, both of Rockville; and his grandparents, Jim and Sally Strahl, Alice Mounts, Raymond Kirts and Josephine Baker, all of Columbus and Jerry and Mary Pearcy of Rockville.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Albert Baker and Henry Paul Seitz.
Pastor Richard Stolle led a service Thursday morning, August 19, at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home in Columbus.
Burial was in Van Buren Township’s Christiansburg Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Children, Incorporated.

Jane A. Eads
Jane Ann Eads died Monday, August 16, 1999, at her home in Ellettsville. She was 48.
Mrs. Eads was born January 5, 1951, in Indianapolis to Jack A. Olson and Joanne Widdop Olson Carpenter. Her mother survives in Nashville.
She was married to Donald Eads. He survives in Monroe County.
Mrs. Eads was a homemaker.
She had been graduated from Indiana University in 1985.
Other survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Eads Davis of Bloomington; three sisters, Jan Baer of Nashville, Jo Olson Autry of Bloomington and Jill Patrick of Evansville; and a grandson, Matthew Davis of Bloomington.
There was no service.
Burial was in Brown County Memorial Park Cemetery near the 4-H Fairgrounds.
Memorial contributions may be made to a Humane Society of the donor’s choice.

Gladys Edwards
Gladys M. Edwards, the mother of Nashville resident Jimmy Edwards, died Saturday morning, August 14, 1999, at her home in Columbus. She was 85.
Mrs. Edwards was born October 17, 1913, in Edmonton, Kentucky to George and Jettie Cassady Blaydes.
She and Elmer W. Edwards were married August 23, 1930. He died December 19, 1973.
Mrs. Edwards had been a member of the Baptist church in Kentucky. She attended the Upper Room Church in Indiana.
Other survivors include three daughters, Fay Harvey of Red Oak, Texas, Janet Hochstetler of Goshen and Judy Perkins of Louisville, Kentucky; five other sons, Buddie Edwards, Rex Edwards, Andy Edwards, all of Columbus, Jack Edwards of Waynetown and Leroy Edwards of Grammer; a brother, Glen Blaydes of Indianapolis; a sister, Sable Griswald of Hillsboro; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Edwards; and a daughter, Donna Barker.
The Reverend Charles T. Goodin conducted a service Tuesday afternoon, August 17, at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home in Columbus.
Burial was in Edinburgh’s Rest Haven Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice of charities.

Mary N. Fleener
Brown County native Mary Naomi Fleener died Saturday morning, August 21, 1999, at Morgan County Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. A resident of that city, she was 89.
Mrs. Fleener was born July 30, 1910, in Brown County to Milton Richards and Viola Robertson Richards.
She and Fritch A. Fleener were married August 10, 1930. He died December 3, 1998.
Mrs. Fleener had been a homemaker.
She was a member of Flat Rock Christian Church in Shelby County.
Besides Morgan County and Flat Rock, Mrs. Fleener had also lived in Fort Myers, Florida.
Survivors include a son, Wendell Fleener of Grapeview, Washington; three daughters, Maxine Lain of Edinburgh, Judy Stevenson of Lafayette and Maryleah Fleener of Highland; two brothers, Robert R. Richards and Harold S. Richards, both of Brown County; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Mrs. Fleener was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Richards and Jesse Richards; and two sisters, Mabel Logsdon and Helen Rund.
Pastor Al Johnson will lead a service today, August 25, at 10:30 a.m. in Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home at Edinburgh.
Burial was in Shelby County’s Flat Rock Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kenneth Living Center, 301 West Harrison Street, Martinsville, Indiana 46151, or the Flat Rock Christian Church Building Fund.

Irvin Payne
Bellsville Pike resident Irvin E. Payne died Sunday afternoon, August 15, 1999, at the Brown County Community Care Center in Salt Creek Park. He was 79.
Mr. Payne was born June 28, 1920, in Salem to Wiley Payne and Ola Gater Payne.
He and Orletha Beauchamp were married November 22, 1944. She survives.
Mr. Payne had worked at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for 31 years, retiring in 1982. He had also farmed land in Brown County.
He had been a member of Pikes Peak Church of Christ.
Other survivors include a son, Stephen Payne of Brown County; three grandchildren, Cindy Payne Keller, Doug Payne and Sarah Payne; a sister, Ruth McDill of Clarksville; and a brother, Melvin Payne of Vallonia.
Mr. Payne was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Hodson.
The Reverend Gary Williamson and Reverend Charles Wright conducted a service Wednesday morning, August 18, at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.
Burial was in Van Buren Township’s Christiansburg Cemetery.

Elva F. Price
Elva F. Price died Sunday, August 22, 1999, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, leaving survivors in the Morgantown area.
She was 76.
Mrs. Price was born March 23, 1923 in Greenfield, Indiana to Claude Thornberry and Bernice Wright Thornberry.
She was married to Henry N. Price on October 5, 1939 in Greenfield. He died on January 12, 1991.
Mrs. Price was employed in the finance center at Ft. Harrison in Indianapolis during the 1950’s. She also was a cook at the Morgantown Elementary School for 6 years from the late 60’s to early 70’s.
She was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and camping. She had also been active in the Indian Creek High School Band Boosters and the Morgantown Little League Boosters Club. She was also a past member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Mrs. Price was preceded in death by one sister, Rosella Price and one brother, Claude N. Thornberry.
Survivors include two sons, James H. Price of Morgantown and Marc V. Price of Greenwood; two daughters, Dora Jeanne Treece of Morgantown, and Sue A. Fleener of Morgantown; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A service will be held today, Wednesday, August 25, at 10 a.m. in Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown with the Reverend Burt Brock officiating.
Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church building fund, Post Office Box 306, Morgantown, Indiana, 46160.

Elizabeth Shultz
Long-time Pikes Peak resident Elizabeth A. Shultz died Saturday afternoon, August 14, 1999, at the Brown County Community Care Center in Salt Creek Park. She was 92.
Mrs. Shultz was born February 11, 1907, in Brown County to Edmund and Georgia E. Baker Ayers.
She first married Lloyd McClure June 15, 1929. He preceded her in death. She later married Floyd Shultz in 1934. He died January 2, 1948.
Mrs. Shultz had worked at Arvin Industries in Columbus. She also was a homemaker.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter Ayers, Bryan Ayers, Garland Ayers and Albert "Pink" Ayers; and two sisters, Bertha Bradley and Ethel Shepherd.
Pastor Richard Stolle led a service Tuesday afternoon, August 17, at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway-Myers Chapel in Columbus.
Burial was in that city’s Garland Brook Cemetery.

Marianne Walter
State Road 135 North resident Marianne Walter died Wednesday evening, August 18, 1999, at the Brown County Community Care Center in Nashville. She was 80.
Mr. Walter was born May 5, 1919, in Lafayette to Levi Levor and Byrdie Kiefer.
She was married to William E. Walter. He died in 1978.
Mr. Walter was an avid Bridge player and reader.
She had been a member of the Brown County Humane Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Michael Stadler of Nashville; a son, Pat Walter of Indianapolis; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Walter was preceded in death by a sister; and two brothers.
Jonathan and Deborah Hutchison led a service Sunday afternoon, August 22, at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.
Burial was in Nashville’s Greenlawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Brown County Humane Society and the Brown County Public Library.

Robert Wetzel
Dogwood Lane resident Robert W. "Bob" Wetzel died Wednesday morning, August 18, 1999, at Bloomington Hospital. He was 85.
Mr. Wetzel was born December 30, 1913, in Chicago, Illinois to Robert Wetzel Sr. and Frieda Wetzel.
He was married to Lois Knaak. She survives in Brown County.
Mr. Wetzel had been a member of the Nashville United Methodist Church.
He had worked as regional sales manager for Simplex Time Recorder in Chicago and for R.M. Hollingshead in New Jersey and Chicago.
For 16 years, Mr. Wetzel was sales manager for the House of Clocks gallery in Morgantown, retiring in 1993.
Other survivors include two sons, Bill Wetzel of Bloomington and Larry Wetzel of Nashville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Russell Wetzel of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The body was cremated. A service will be held at a later date.
The Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nashville United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Henry P. Ellis
Henry P. Ellis, the father of Nashville resident Tracy Knight, died Sunday, August 22, 1999, at his home in Bloomington. He was 67.
Mr. Ellis was born July 29, 1932, in Hope, Arkansas to Felix P. Ellis and Daisy Estelle Jackson.
He was married to Joan "Jody" McDowell. She survives in Monroe County.
Mr. Ellis was a retired sheet metal worker, having worked at General Sheet Metal, Traingle-Leahy and Bright Sheet Metal.
He had been a member of Grace Baptist Church, Ellettsville Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine, both in Indianapolis, Stone Belt Shrine Club in Bloomington, Bloomington American Legion and the Metal Workers Union.
Other survivors include a son, Henry P. "Hank" Ellis II of Bloomington; three other daughters, Stacy Ellis and Debra McGinty, both of Bloomington and Kim Shannon of Jeffersonville; a brother, James Ellis of Muncie; a sister, Melissa Pardue of Bloomington; and eight grandchildren.
The Reverend Dan Richwine conducted a service Wednesday morning, August 25, at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville.
Burial was in Greene County’s Solsberry Cemetery.

Carrie A. George
Mt. Liberty Road resident Carrie A. George died Friday, August 27, 1999, at her home. She was 83.
Mrs. George was born April 8, 1916, in Indianapolis to Ernest J. Culp and Bertha Culp.
She was married to Vinernie J. George. He died in 1978.
Mrs. George was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Richard George of Mooresville, Donald George of Nashville and Robert E. George of Hope; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A sister preceded her in death.
A service was conducted Monday morning, August 30, at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.
Burial was in Brown County Memorial Park near the 4-H fairgrounds.
