Reva S. Query
Reva Sue Query, the mother of Brown County resident Marsha A. Placke, died Monday evening, August 23, 1999, at her home in Columbus. She was 67.
Mrs. Query was born November 25, 1931, in Bartholomew County to Fred and Frances Cooper Wasson.
She and Anthony M. "Tony" Query were married March 5, 1951. He survives.
Mrs. Query was graduated from Columbus High School in 1949.
She had worked as pre-school teacher at Children Incorporated in Columbus for 17 years.
Mrs. Query was a member of Sandy Hook United Methodist Church and Women of the Moose.
Other survivors include a son, Bruce A. Query of Columbus; four grandchildren, Nathan Smith, Karlie Jo Query, Alison Strawmyer and Brian Placke; three sisters, Norma Morse of Denver, Colorado, Joanne Ogilvie of Macon, Georgia and Donna Torrence of Indianapolis; and four great-grandchildren.
The Reverend J. William Keith Jr. led a service Friday morning, August 27, at Sandy Hook United Methodist Church in Columbus.
Burial was in that city’s Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Hook United Methodist Church, Hospice of Bartholomew County, or the American Cancer Society.

Merilyn Roberts
State Road 135 South resident Merilyn E. Roberts died Saturday morning, August 28, 1999, at her home. She was 72.
Mrs. Roberts was born June 18, 1927, in Smithville to Hobart Miller and Gladyce Griner Miller.
She and Carson Roberts were married September 3, 1943. He survives.
Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker.
She had been a member of Bean Blossom Mennonite Church.
Other survivors include a daughter, Marsha Roberts of Nashville; a son, Jerel Roberts of Morgantown; and two grandchildren, Matthew Roberts and Camille Roberts, both of Morgantown.
The Reverend Gary Link and Reverend Henry Wagler led a service Tuesday morning, August 31, at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bean Blossom Mennonite Church or Hospice of Bartholomew County.

Helen Stader
Former Brown County resident Helen Marie Abram Stader died Wednesday, August 25, 1999, at Beverly Health Care in Bloomington. A resident of that city, she was 83.
Mrs. Stader was born June 2, 1916, in Terre Haute to John Abram and Martha Arden Abram.
She was first married to Vern Lucas. He preceded her in death. Two other husbands, Harold Gwinnup and Thomas Stader, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Stader was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Pentecost faith.
Survivors include six daughters, Betty Littlejohn of Bloomington, Opal Pedro of Columbus, Edna Mansfield Parker and Linda Hunley, both of Crawfordsville, Patricia Gwinnup of Cape Cod, Michigan and Geraldine Gwinnup; two sons, Jerry Southerlin of Lafayette and William Gwinnup; a step-son, Freddy Gwinnup Lynch of Ohio; a brother, Ray Abram of Bloomington; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Stader was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lucas; and a brother, Melvin Abram.
A service was conducted Friday afternoon, August 27, in Washington Township’s Green Valley Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice of charities.

Marianne Walter
State Road 135 North resident Marianne Walter died Wednesday evening, August 18, 1999, at the Brown County Community Care Center in Nashville. She was 80.
Mrs. Walter was born May 5, 1919, in Lafayette to Levi Levor and Byrdie Kiefer.
She was married to William E. Walter. He died in 1978.
Mrs. Walter was an avid Bridge player and reader.
She had been a member of the Brown County Humane Society.
Survivors include a son, Michael Stadler of Nashville; a daughter, Pat Walter of Indianapolis; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Walter was preceded in death by a sister; and two brothers.
Jonathan and Deborah Hutchison led a service Sunday afternoon, August 22, at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.
Burial was in Nashville’s Greenlawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Brown County Humane Society and the Brown County Public Library.

Mary Anderson
Former Brown County resident Mary E. Anderson died Friday, September 3, 1999, at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. A resident of that city, she was 79.
Mrs. Anderson was born February 28, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois to James Elder Twyford and Selva Pendlum Anderson.
She was married to Charles M. Anderson. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Anderson was a successful model and pianist.
She had co-owned and operated Park Lawn Cemetery in Evansville and Custom Framer in Brown County.
Mrs. Anderson had been a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Greenfield. She had also been a Red Cross volunteer and Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include four sons, Dr. James Anderson of Greenfield, Charles Anderson Jr. of Avon, Brent Anderson of Evansville and Kurt Anderson of Tampa, Florida; four daughters, Caroline "Sis" Weaver of Greenfield, Sally Blanton of Indianapolis, Mary Faith "Mimi" Caudell of Fortville and Cosette "Ketty" Dennison of Franklin; 16 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
Father Severin Messick led a service Monday morning, September 6, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Greenfield.
Burial was in that city’s Washington Park Cemetery.
Pasco Memorial Mortuary in Greenfield was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Robert Butterfield Sr.
Robert S. "Bob" Butterfield Sr., the father of Morgantown resident Gail L. Glaze, died Sunday, August 29, in her Indianapolis home. He was 85.
Mr. Butterfield was born July 26, 1914, in Indianapolis to Albert Porter and Hazel Kelly Butterfield.
He was married to Dorothy M. Davis. She died in November 1982.
Mr. Butterfield had worked as a control wiring technician at Freyen Brothers Mechanical Contractors before retiring.
He had been a member of the Murat Shrine, Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite, Indianapolis Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star, Indianapolis 500 Old Timer’s Club and Destroyer Escorts Sailor Association.
Mr. Butterfield was a United States Navy veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include a son, Robert S. Butterfield Jr. of Shelbyville; another daughter, Linda S. Landrum of Gosport; a brother, Al Butterfield of Medway, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
A service was conducted Thursday, September 2, at Singleton and Herr Mortuary in Indianapolis.
Burial was in Johnson County’s Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Marjorie Elkins
Life-long Morgantown resident Marjorie E. Elkins died Thursday, September 2, at Hearne Health Care Center in Morgantown. She was 95.
Mrs. Elkins was born December 31, 1903, in Morgantown to Ira M. and Edith Shank Whitaker.
She and Marvin E. Elkins were married June 28, 1924, in Martinsville. He died February 26, 1988.
Mrs. Elkins had helped her husband operate his Mobil Oil delivery business for 30 years. She had also helped run the Ice House in Morgantown.
She was a member of the Morgantown First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Mrs. Elkins was also a member of the church’s All Willing Workers Sunday school class.
In addition, Mrs. Elkins was an artist and loved to paint.
She was graduated from the old Morgantown High School in 1921.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Jane Woods of Morgantown and Eva Marie Madison of Princeton; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Curtis Whitaker of Phoenix, Arizona.
Two brothers preceded her in death.
The Reverend Rick Amerine led a service Sunday afternoon, September 5, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in that community’s East Hill Cemetery.

Marlin Johnson
Nashville resident Marlin D. Johnson died Monday morning, August 30, at St. Francis Hospital and Health Center in Beech Grove. He was 73.
Mr. Johnson was born May 6, 1926, in West Port to Russell Johnson and Velma Allee Johnson. His mother survives in West Port.
His first wife, Donna J. Johnson, died in 1992. He and Madeline Ingram were married July 10, 1996. She survives.
Mr. Johnson graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1944.
He had worked as an instrument electrician for Indianapolis Power and Light for 29 years, retiring in 1989.
Mr. Johnson had been a member of West Port Baptist Church.
In addition, Mr. Johnson had belonged to the West Port Masonic Lodge for 50 years. He had also been a member of the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine.
Other survivors include a son, Dale Johnson of Indianapolis; two step-sons, Mark Dixon and Greg Dixon, both of Brown County; a brother, Wayne Johnson of Greensburg; three grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles S. Johnson; and a brother, Jerry Lee Johnson.
The Reverend George Plantz led a service Thursday morning, September 2, at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home’s State Road 135 North Chapel.
Burial was in Johnson County’s Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 510 North New Jersey Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204.

Brenda McCoskey
Morgantown resident Brenda May Kirby McCoskey died Tuesday, August 31, at her home. She was 44.
Ms. McCoskey was born March 16, 1955, in Johnson County to Lovell and Pauline Bray Kirby.
She had also lived in Edinburgh and Franklin.
Ms. McCoskey had worked at Athens Restaurant in Franklin and Roscoe’s Restaurant.
She attended First Mount Pleasant Baptist Church near Franklin.
Survivors include a son, Jason Paul Kirby of Indianapolis; brother, Larry Kirby of Trafalgar; and a sister, Judy VanWinkle of Morgantown.
Ms. McCoskey was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Kirby.
Chris Page led a service Thursday afternoon, September 2, at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin.
Burial was in Johnson County’s Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jimmy Kirby to the American Cancer Society’s Johnson County Unit at Box 78038, Indianapolis, Indiana 46268.

Robert Patrick
Robert E. Patrick, the grandfather of Brown County resident Charles Huesman, died Saturday, August 28, at the Todd-Aikens Health Center in Franklin. The Greenwood resident was 82.
Mr. Patrick was born October 21, 1916, in Indianapolis to Robert H. and Helen Jones Patrick.
He first married Dorothy Burch August 26, 1950. She preceded him in death. Mr. Patrick and Eva Carney were married September 22, 1973. She also preceded him in death.
He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis.
Mr. Patrick had worked as a conductor at Penn Central Railroad for 37 years, retiring in 1976. He had worked out of the Hawthorne Yard in Indianapolis.
He was a lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen as well as the Whiteland Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
Mr. Patrick was a United States Navy veteran.
Other survivors include a daughter, Kathy Payne of Greenwood; a granddaughter, Sarah Payne of Greenwood; two other grandsons, Dan Huesman Jr. of Columbus and Tim Payne of Greenwood; and a great-granddaughter.
A service was conducted Wednesday morning, September 1, in the chapel of First Flags at Washington Park East Cemetery.
Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin was in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie Farmer
Brown County native Bonnie Thompson Farmer died Wednesday, August 25, at her home in Fremont, California. She was 84.
Mrs. Farmer was born April 29, 1915, in Brown County to Homer Hershel and Willa Ann Fritch Breedlove.
She was first married to Howard O. Thompson. He preceded her in death. She later married Gordon Farmer. He also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Thompson and her first husband had owned and operated the Thompson Roto Grill in Amity for 15 years.
She had attended Greenwood Christian Church, Franklin Order of the Eastern Star and Glenns Valley Conservation Club.
Mrs. Thompson enjoyed collecting antiques.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Melinda L. Duncan of Fremont, California and Tracy S. Grose of Trafalgar; two sisters, Estelle Burns and Merle Kleinschmidt, both of Greenwood; and four great-grandchildren.
The Reverend Shan Rutherford conducted a service Tuesday afternoon, August 31, at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home’s State Road 135 North Chapel near Greenwood.
Burial was in that city’s Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Jessie Zimmerman
Former Brown County resident Jessie Zimmerman died Thursday evening, September 2, at Universal Health Care in Franklin. She was 82.
Mrs. Zimmerman was born January 10, 1917, in Helmsburg to Bert and Emma Long Rund.
She and Denzel L. Zimmerman were married July 15, 1933, in Brown County. He died June 26, 1966.
Mrs. Zim-merman had worked as a school bus driver for the Helmsburg schools during the 1940s. She ran her own house cleaning service in Morgantown for more than 10 years from 1969 until 1983.
From 1969 until 1973, she served on the board of the Brown County Welfare Department.
She had been a member of Lick Spring Baptist Church in rural Johnson County.
Mrs. Zimmerman enjoyed sewing.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilynn E. Adams of Trafalgar and Jody Ogden of Southport; a son, David Zimmerman of Trafalgar; a brother, James Rund of Brown County; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hubert Rund and Harold Rund; and two sisters, Edith Wood and Evelyn Walker.
The Reverend Ervin Stutzman conducted a service Tuesday morning, September 7, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in Johnson County’s Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
