William Miller
William H. Miller of Flat Rock died Friday, September 11, 1998, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was 74.
Mr. Miller left survivors in Brown County.
He was born January 8, 1924, in Shelbyville to Roy and Anna Stitt Miller.
He and Ann S. Messina were married December 19, 1947. She survives.
Mr. Miller had dairy farmed in Shelby County.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. For his service, Mr. Miller was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Hope American Legion.
Other survivors include four sons, Larry E. Miller, Jerry L. Miller and Barry J. Miller, all of Flat Rock, and Garry W. Miller of Nashville; two daughters, Linda D. Harrod of Flat Rock and Terri L. DeWitt of Indianapolis; a brother, John Miller of Hope; a sister, Evelyn Quillen of Columbus; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Kim Huffman conducted a service Tuesday, September 15, at Norman Funeral Home in Hope.
Burial was in Shelby County's Flat Rock Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Terry M. Shields
Terry Michael Shields, the brother of Nineveh area resident Mark E. Shields, died Wednesday, September 9, 1998, at his home in Monrovia. He as 56.
Mr. Shields was born March 23, 1942, in San Diego, California to James Elmer and Beulah Christine Owings Shields.
He was married to Rosalyn Jane Graham. She survives.
Mr. Shields had worked as a truck driver for Allison Transmission for 31 years before retiring.
He had also operated Shields Small Engine Repair in Monrovia since 1977.
During the past year, he had worked in sales for R.J. Reynolds and Company.
Mr. Shields was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.
He wa a member of ABATE and the Monrovia Masonic Lodge.
Other survivors include a son, Tony M. Shields of Monrovia; two daughters, Cari C. Napier of Franklin and Teresa M. Shields of Monrovia; and a grandchild.
The Reverend Jeff Castetter led a service Saturday, September 12, at Carlisle and Son Funeral Home in Mooresville.
Burial was at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Hall.

Paul Ensminger
Trafalgar area resident Paul Warren Ensminger died Friday, August 28, 1998, in an automobile accident along State Road 37 in Martinsville. He was 74.
Mr. Ensminger was born December 17, 1923, in York, Pennsylvania to Paul P. and Nell Ferne Miller Ensminger.
He and J. Larraine Croessant were married May 11, 1946. She survives.
Mr. Ensminger had worked as a bacteriologist at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis for 40 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of Brown County's Church of the Lakes.
Mr. Ensminger also volunteered at Community Hospital South in Marion County.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include a daughter, Karen "Sue" Birt of Franklin; three sons, David D. Ensminger of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Curt J. Ensmin-ger of Indianapolis and Michael P. Ensminger of Petaluma, California; a sister, Betty Taylor of Richmond, Virginia; and eight grandchildren.
Mr. Ensminger's son, Carl Bruce Ensminger, was also fatally injured in the accident.
The Reverend Richard Crowley and Reverend Chris Labs conducted a service Friday, September 4, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home's State Road 135 Chapel.
Burial was in Johnson County's Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Jerry Jewell
Nashville resident Jerry "Bo" Jewell died Wednesday evening, September 2, 1998, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was 53.
Mr. Jewell was born in Hart County, Kentucky to Keith and Gladys Jolly Jewell. His mother survives in Louisville, Kentucky.
Mr. Jewell was graduated from Caverna High School in Kentucky and attended Western Kentucky University.
He was a United States Air Force veteran.
Mr. Jewell was a member of the Bear Wallow Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald Jewell of Florida and Derek Keith Jewell of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters, Jeaneen Goodhue of Radcliff, Kentucky and Camille Saranchak of Louisville, Kentucky; three nieces; and a nephew.
A service was conducted Sunday, September 6, at Houk Cemetery in Hart County, Kentucky.
Winn Funeral Home in Horse Cave, Kentucky was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Vicki Y. Abbett
Vicki Y. Abbett died Saturday, August 29, 1998, at Universal Health Care Center in Franklin after a long illness.
A resident of that city, she was 42.
Ms. Abbett was born December 12, 1956, in Franklin to Jim A. Abbett and Nancy L. Harmon Ledger. Her father survives in Florida. Her mother lives in Edinburgh.
Her parents formerly lived in the Morgantown area.
Ms. Abbett had worked as a nurse's aide at several nursing homes in the Franklin area.
She was graduated from Southwestern High School in 1975.
Other survivors include her step-father, William Ledger of Edinburgh; a daughter, Shelley Abbett of Greenfield; a brother, Michael W. Million of Shelbyville; a sister, Melissa E. Helms of Greenfield; and a granddaughter, Melea R. Pitcock of Greenfield.
The Reverend Anthony J. Schommer will lead a service today, September 2, at 10 a.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in that community's East Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Melea R. Pitcock Trust Fund, in care of Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, Post Office Box 308, Morgantown, Indiana 46160.

Kathryn Bazzell
Brown County Community Care Center resident Kathryn M. Bazzell died Saturday evening, August 29, 1998, at the center in Salt Creek Park. She was 83.
Mrs. Bazzell was born January 29, 1915, in Doniphan, Missouri to William Arch Worley and Ada Mae Brooks.
She was married to James Bazzell. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Bazzell was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Christian church.
Survivors include two sisters, Billie Jean Sprague of Louisville, Kentucky and Ada Mae Stanley of Doniphan, Missouri; and a nephew, Don Sprague of Columbus.
Private family services were conducted at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.

Olive Blanton
Former Nashville resident Olive "Robin" Rodgers Blanton died Saturday, August 29, 1998, at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital.
A resident of Carmel, she was 86.
Mrs. Blanton was born March 3, 1912, in Monroe, Ohio to James and Martha Meyers Rodgers.
Mrs. Blanton received a degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
She and S.W. "Bill" Blanton were married in 1933. He survives.
Mrs. Blanton was a homemaker.
During the Depression, she taught fourth grade until her marriage.
Before moving to Carmel, Mrs. Blanton was active in community affairs.
She was a member of the Nashville United Methodist Church, Brown County Historical Society and Indiana Weavers.
Other survivors include a daughter, Robin Manetta; two sons, Bill Blanton and Peter Blanton; a sister, Martha Morrissett; and four grandchildren.
A service was conducted Tuesday, September 1, at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Darlington.
Flanner and Buchanan Carmel Mortuary in Hamilton County was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

John A. Dixon
Dixon Road resident John A. Dixon died Saturday evening, August 29, 1998, at his home in southern Brown County. He was 78.
Mr. Dixon was born April 3, 1920, in Marion County to John W. and Fern Arford Dixon.
He was married to Bonnie Clark. She survives.
Mr. Dixon had worked security for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for 12 years. He also built furniture and cabinets.
Mr. Dixon was an avid conservationist.
He attended the Azalea Friends Church.
Other survivors include two sons, John Dixon and David Dixon, both of Columbus.
A service was conducted Tuesday, September 1, at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on State Road 135 North.
Burial was in Van Buren Township's Christiansburg Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Columbus Regional Home Health Care.

Mary E. Enzinger
Mary E. Enzinger died Thursday, August 27, 1998, at her home in Bloomington. She was 67.
Mrs. Enzinger left survivors in Brown County.
She was born February 2, 1931, in Batesville to Bert and Irene Ingle Schultz.
She was married to William Enzinger. He survives in Monroe County.
Mrs. Enzinger was had worked as a nurse before retiring.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Other survivors include two daughters, Irene Inman of Bloomington and Elaine Enzinger of Nashville; three sons, Stephen Enzinger and Michael Enzinger, both of Mooresville and Gary Enzinger of Bloomington; two sisters, Martha Sutton of Mooresville and Ruth Sappenfield of Dallas; a brother, Robert Schultz of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Enzinger was preceded in death by a brother, John Schultz.
Pastor Dan Cloud led a service Monday, August 31, at Deremiah-Frye, Greene and Harrell Chapel in Bloomington.
Burial was in that city's Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bloomington Hospital Foundation.

Wilbur M. Meese
Brown County Art Guild member artist Wilbur M. Meese died Friday, August 21, 1998, in Indianapolis.
A resident of that city, he was 87.
His wife, Jean Ward Meese survives in Marion County.
Mr. Meese had worked as a commercial artist, package designer and art director for Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis before retiring in 1983.
A nationally known artist, Mr. Meese's works can be found in the collections of Indiana University, Purdue University, Indiana State University, Eli Lilly and Company, Indiana Bell Telephone Company, Merchants National Bank and P.R. Mallory as well as in others across the country.
Mr. Meese had been a member of the Brown County Art Guild since 1980 and was president of the organization in the mid 1980s.
He had been a member and former president of the Indiana Artists Club and the Art Directors Club of Indiana.
Mr. Meese was a charter member and first president of the Watercolor Society of Indiana.
He was also active in Indiana Heritage Arts, another Nashville-based art organization.
Other survivors include a daughter, MaryAnn Meese Fletcher; a son, Jon Michael Meese; two sisters, Roberta Beckman and Mae Marnitz; a brother, Ray Meese; and three grandchildren.
A service was conducted Monday, August 24, at Flanner and Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary in Indianapolis.
Burial was in that city's Washington Park North Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Watercolor Society of Indiana.
