Ahnyae Greathouse
Ahnyae Mailin Greathouse, the granddaughter of Brown County resident Charles Clark, was stillborn Thursday, August 23, 2001, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
She was the daughter of Columbus residents Ronald E. and Ginny A. (Clark) Greathouse.
Other survivors include two brothers, Zachary and Isaac Greathouse, both of Kansas; grandparents, Sun Cha Fear and Terry and Sue Foley, all of Columbus and Ron and Freida Greathouse of Hope; and great-grandparents, Donald and Marilyn Clark, Mary Laraway and Mable Greathouse, all of Columbus, Fred and Ruby Lynch of Jasonville, and Oran and Jane Foley of Kentucky.

Cleora M. Morgan
Bittersweet Road resident Cleora M. Morgan died Wednesday, August 22, 2001, at the Brown County Community Care Center in Salt Creek Park. She was 91.
Mrs. Morgan was born February 21, 1910, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to Winter and Octavia Stewart.
She and Ralph H. Morgan were married April 11, 1937. He died June 8, 2001.
A homemaker and artist, she enjoyed painting Brown County’s rug-ged landscape and native flowers.
Mrs. Morgan also enjoyed writing poetry about nature and life in Brown County.

Oliver Petro
Brown County native Oliver C. Petro died Saturday, August 25, 2001, at Columbus Regional Hospital. A resident of Bartholomew County, he was 84.
Mr. Petro was born February 7, 1917, the son of David and Bertha Purtlebaugh Petro.
He and Florence Allman were married May 22, 1944. She preceded him in death August 23, 1996.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Petro was awarded a Purple Heart.

Beulah Prewitt
Beulah Lena Prewitt died Tuesday, August 21, 2001, at the Brown County Community Care Center. A resident of Nashville, she was 83.
Born July 2, 1918, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Arthur and Myrtle (Bostic) Sparks.
She and Russell L. Prewitt were married November 17, 1952. He survives.
A member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Elwood, Mrs. Prewitt had retired from Redelonans Hardware.

Grace C. Spicer
Morgantown resident Grace C. Spicer died Thursday, August 23, 2001, at The Waters in Martinsville. She was 93.
A native of Morgan County, Mrs. Spicer was born October 25, 1907, the daughter of Wiley L. and Zora (Whitaker) Burns.
She married Earl C. Spicer December 23, 1931, in Martinsville. He preceded her in death August 5, 1983.
A homemaker, Mrs. Spicer had worked at Morgantown Health Care Inn, Rider Canning Factory and Morgan Canning Factory.
She was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church in Johnson County.

Earl M. Burtt
Cordry Sweetwater Conservancy District resident Earl Martin Burtt died Friday, September 14, 2001, at his home. He was 76.
Mr. Burtt was born March 8, 1925, in Indianapolis to Martin and Hazel (Wood) Burtt.
A United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II, Mr. Burtt had worked at Armstrong Cork Company for 25 years before retiring in 1975.

Alexandra Gerholt
Alexandra Louise "Lexie Lou" Gerholt died Thursday, September 13, 2001, at Riley Hospital For Children in Indianapolis. A resident of Peoga Road, she was two.
Born August 30, 1999, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Walter A. and Julie R. (Ellis) Gerholt. They both survive.

David L. Hardin
Upper Schooner Road resident David L. Hardin died Saturday morning, September 15, 2001, at the Brown County Community Care Center in Salt Creek Park. He was 46.
Mr. Hardin was born October 8, 1954, in Franklin to Dave F. and Amy Lucas Hardin.
He and Diane Fleetwood were married June 21, 1986. She survives.
A member of Green Valley Apostolic Church, Mr. Hardin had worked in quality control at Bloomington’s General Electric Plant.

Frank Lawson
Life-long Brown County resident Francis M. "Frank" Lawson died Sunday, September 16, 2001, at his home on Lawson Road. He was 70.
Mr. Lawson was born January 24, 1931, in Brown County to Riley and Grace Bay Lawson.
He and Wanda L. Rohl were married January 28, 1953, in Indianapolis. She survives.
Mr. Lawson had worked as a section foreman for the Illinois Central Rail-road for 39 years - from 1947 until 1986.

Robert Tyler
Robert C. "Frankie" Tyler, the brother of Brown County resident Chester Lucas, died Friday, September 14, 2001, the victim of a shooting in Hope. A resident of Cincinnati, he was 28.
Born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, January 11, 1973, he was the son of Robert Lee Tyler of Vine Grove, Kentucky and Marie "Jeanie" Eddy Tyler of Cincinnati.
A member of the Salvation Army, Mr. Tyler was a construction worker for Priority One Construction in Cincinnati.

Albert Voorheis
Brown County native Albert Voorheis died Wednesday, September 12, 2001, at The Waters in Martinsville. A resident of that community, he was 99.
Born May 2, 1902, he was the son of William and Anna Marie (Schmidt) Voorheis.
He and Dorothy Zink were married June 22, 1937. She died August 24, 1974.
A farmer, Mr. Voorheis owned Myers Orchard and Farm in Brown County for 48 years.

Bertha Bellamy
Bertha L. "Popcorn" Bellamy, the sister of Nashville resident Donnie Horn, died Sunday, September 23, 2001, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. A resident of Westport, she was 45.
Born in Decatur County December 11, 1955, she was the daughter of Joyce Winchester Powers Fisher of Seymour and the late Russell D. Powers.

Eugenia Bright
Eugenia Blair (McDaniel) Bright, the mother of Nineveh resident Larry A. Bright, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at her son’s residence in Cub Run, Kentucky. A resident of Prince’s Lakes, she was 81.
She was born August 15, 1920, in Curtisville, to Loren T. and Chloe V. (Heflin) McDaniel.
She was graduated from Windfall High School in 1937.
She and Charles Guthrie Bright were married August 28, 1937, in Elwood. He died February 29, 1992.
A bookkeeper and office manager, she worked for Stevens Spring Company in Elwood for 10 years retiring in 1955.

Mary A. Caress
Retired long-time educator Mary A. Caress died Monday, September 17, 2001, at the Morgantown Health Care-Inn. A resident of Morgantown, she was 95.
Mrs. Caress formerly lived in Indianapolis.
She was born April 6, 1906, in Lawrence Co-unty to Hugh and Julia Moore Hays.
She was married to Charles L. Caress. He died in 1967.
Mrs. Caress taught school in Bedford and Plainsville. She began her career in education in 1925 and retired in 1991.

Lillian Cunningham
County resident Lillian A. Cunningham died Monday, September 17, 2001, at Bloomington Hospital. She was 88.
She had lived in Brown County since 1982. Before that she had lived most of her life in Indianapolis.
Born August 10, 1913, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Maurizo and Julia Marcolina Rosa.
She and John H. Cunningham were married in September 1938, in Indianapolis. He died in March 1987.
Mrs. Cunningham had been a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Indianapolis. She also was a member of Sycamore Valley Senior Citizens Center where she enjoyed playing Bingo.

Mary Ferguson
Mary Marguerite Ferguson, the aunt of Nashville resident Ann Scritchfield Miller, died Wednesday, September 19, at Bloomington Hospital. She was 91.
Born November 27, 1909, in Losciusko County, she was the daughter of Charles and Myrtle (Kiger) Wood.
She married Jay Dale "Fergie" Ferguson. He died in 1989.
A graduate of Indiana University, Mrs. Ferguson was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
She had held and coordinated the position of patient representative at Bloomington Hospital and was a former first-grade teacher at McCalla Elementary School.

Ralph Fluharty
Ralph L. Fluharty, the brother of Bean Blossom resident James C. Fluharty, died Sunday, September 16, 2001, after a motorcycle accident in southern Brown County. A resident of Martinsville, he was 52.
Born June 16, 1949, in Franklin, he was the son of James J. and Sarah J. (Gatewood) Fluharty. They both preceded him in death.
A member of the American Legion post in Edinburgh, Mr. Fluharty had served 33 years in the Army National Guard.
He also had been a motor sergeant in the Indiana National Guard at Camp Atterbury and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Martinsville.

Andrew Hatchett
Andrew "Bud" Wesley Hatchett Sr. died Friday, September 21, 2001, at his residence on State Road 46. He was 71.
Born October 10, 1929, in Brown County, he was the son of William Thomas and Ina (Woods) Hatchett.
He and Barbara Hillenburg were married October 24, 1949. She survives.
An employee of RCA in Bloomington for 16 years, Mr. Hatchett also had owned and operated Bud’s Masonry in Nashville, retiring in 1990.

Zannie Lucas
Nashville resident Zannie L. Lucas died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at her daughter’s home. She was 65.
Born September 4, 1936, in Ashland, Illinois, she was the daughter of Elby and Shirley Rich. They survive in Kentucky.
A homemaker, Mrs. Lucas enjoyed working on crafts. She especially enjoyed making dolls and wind chimes.
Other survivors include a daughter, Treasa Floyd of Nashville; and three grandchildren, Bud Finley, Carol Finley, and Gary Finley.

Dora Nelson
Dora L. (Kirts) Nelson died Monday, September 17, 2001, at Morgantown Healthcare Inn, leaving relatives in the county. A resident of Indianapolis, she was 95.
She had been a public health nurse for Visiting Nurse Associa-tion for 30 years, retiring in 1974.
Mrs. Nelson was a member of University Heights Christian Church and United Senior Action.

Dorothy Rost
Dorothy Irene Rost, the mother of Nashville resident David W. Rost, died Thursday, September 20, 2001, at her residence. She was 72.
Born April 14, 1929, in Green County, she was the daughter of Chester and Lelah (Mitchell) Baker.
She married Robert W. Rost. He survives.
