Louise Fish
Brown County native Louise S. Fish died Saturday, October 20, 2001, at her home in Columbus. She was 64.
Born June 22, 1937, in Nashville, she was the daughter of Lova Sipes of Columbus, and the Late Ada Bridgewater Sipes.
She and Alfred Fish were married August 5, 1956, in Jeffersonville. He survives.
An inspector at Cosco for 33 years, Mrs. Fish attended Shiloh Baptist Church and was a member of the Columbus Chapter of Order of Eastern Star.

Myrtle Kent
Myrtle M. Kent died Wednesday, October 17, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis leaving two brothers and a sister in Brown County. A resident of Columbus, she was 78.
Born January 5, 1923, in Delevan, Illinois, she was the daughter of Guy Calvin and Susie (Taylor) Hobbs.
She and Charles "Ed" Kent were married August 31, 1946. He preceded her in death April 14, 1984.
Mrs. Kent had worked at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus.

Bertha Melloan
Woodland Lake resident Bertha E. Goode Melloan died Monday, October 15, 2001, at Kendrick Hospital in Greenwood. She was 85.
Mrs. Melloan was born August 25, 1916, in Liberty, Kentucky to John E. and Sarah Belle Haggard Goode.
She was married to James Melloan Jr. He preceded her in death.
A homemaker, Mrs. Melloan enjoyed bowling and fishing.

Keith Rarick
Brown County Community Band founding member Keith C. Rarick died Thursday, October 18, 2001, at his residence on Tuck-a-way Ridge Lane. He was 88.
Born October 18, 1913, in Elgin, Illinois, he was the son of W. Carl and Mary Esta (Hooke) Rarick.
From the age of two, he was raised on a farm north of Muncie.

Ruth A. Tilton
Long-time music educator Ruth Alberta Tilton died Monday, October 15, 2001, at the Brown County Health and Living Community. She was 95.
Miss Tilton had lived in a home on Nashville’s Jefferson Street that had been in her family for generations before going to the nursing home a few years ago.
She was born August 12, 1906, in Story to Dr. Frank Lewis Tilton and Rachael Gore Tilton.
Miss Tilton was graduated from Williamsport High School in 1924 and later earned a master’s degree in education from Indiana University. She had also attended the Sherwood School of Music in Chicago.

Thomas Artis
Brown County native Thomas M. Artis died Monday, October 22, 2001, at Millers Merry Manor in Hope. He was 85.
Born February 13, 1916, in Brown County, he was the son of Thomas and Frankie (Carmichael) Artis.
He and Flora Seitz were married September 7, 1938. She died August 1, 1987.
He then married Catherine L. Donica Beck on December 19, 1987, and she survives.
A retired brick mason, Mr. Artis was a member of the Abundant Life Apostolic Church.

Richard Burks
Richard E. Burks, the brother of Nashville resident Phyllis Mann, died Saturday, October 27, at Bloomington Hospital. A resident of that city, he was 75.
Born March 5, 1926, in Bloomington, he was the son of Frank and Hazel (Kelly) Burks.
A World War II Marine Corps veteran, he was a mechanic at Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center for 18 years.
Mr. Burks served as an elder at the Highland Village Church of Christ, and was a member of the American Legion post in Bloomington.

Robert Corns
Robert G. "Doc" Corns, the father-in-law of Nashville optometrist Merle Pickel, died Friday, October 26, 2001, at his home. A resident of Lowell, he was 77.
He was graduated from Frankfort High School in 1942, where he lettered in football.
Mr. Corns attended Depauw and Purdue Universities and the University of Iowa. He was graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1949, where he received the "Leadership and Service" award.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he also was an Air Corps veteran and member of the Lowell American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Beatrice Hannah
Beatrice K. Hannah died Friday, October 26, 2001, at Brown County Health and Living Center. A former resident of Ashland, Kentucky, she was 94.
Born July 28, 1907, in Ashland, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Robert H. and Tempest Wortman Keggs. Her husband, Clyde T. Hannah, died in 1972.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ashland, Kentucky, and was the first woman to be elected to that community’s school board.
At her church, Mrs. Hannah was a choir mother and Sunday school teacher. She also was a Girl Scout leader, a Y-teen and band parent.

Travis Harden
Travis James Harden, the son of Helmsburg Road residents Kenneth and Loretta (Packer) Harden, died Friday, October 26, 2001, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Travis was born that day at 22 weeks gestation.
Other survivors include grandparents, William and Cindy Packer of Helmsburg and Rick and Trixie Harden of Trevlac.

Virginia Hardin
Virginia L. Hardin died Friday, October 26, 2001, at the Brown County Health and Living Center in Nashville. She was 67.
Born March 16, 1934, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of William N. and Dorothy (Terrell) Hardin.
A homemaker and child care provider, Mrs. Hardin was a member of Sanders Pentecostal Church where she served as secretary of the Women’s Auxiliary.

Elam Hibbard
Brown County resident Elam L. (Adams) Hibbard died Thursday, October 11, 2001, at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood. She was 71.
Born July 30, 1930, in Somerset, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Genie Othel and Mossie (Dugger) Adams.
She married Melvin Hibbard, who preceded her in death.
Employed as a salesperson by Roselyn Bakeries in Greenwood, she was a member of Chimney Rock Baptist Church.

Marvin Lucas Sr.
Brown County native Marvin D. Lucas Sr. died Monday, October 22, 2001, at his home in North Vernon. He was 50.
Born March 7, 1951, in Brown County, he was the son of George Marion and Francis Josephine Lucas.
He and Brenda Turner were married August 27, 2000, and she survives.
Mr. Lucas had been employed at Golden Foundry, and was an independent truck driver.

Laura McKee
Laura Louise McKee, the mother of Nashville resident Daniel R. McKee, died Friday, October 26, 2001, at Bloomington.
A former South Bend resident, she was 84.
Other survivors include a daughter, Susan A. Bennett of South Bend; and a son, Timothy C. McKee of Chesapeake, Virginia.

Robert Mickel
Robert D. Mickel, the brother of Spearsville resident Emy Lou Whalen, died Monday, October 24, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital and Health Centers in Beech Grove. He was 80.
Born March 22, 1921, in Madison, he was the son of Wilburn George and Leota D. Mickel..
He was married to Colleen (Carroll) Mickel for 59 years. She survives.
A statistical writer for Allison Division of General Motors for 40 years, Mr. Mickel retired in 1980.
A U.S. Army Air Force Veteran, Mr. Mickel was a past member of the Southport Lions Club.

Bettie Otte
North Shore Drive resident Bettie R. (Renard) Otte died Monday, October 22, 2001, at the Brown County Community Health and Living Center in Nashville. A former Indianapolis resident, she was 80.
She married Carl F. Otte, who preceded her in death.
A production control employee at Esterline-Angus Corp-oration for 13 years, she retired in 1975.
Mrs. Otte also had worked at American Art and Clay Company.

Brandon Schrader
Brandon S. Schrader, the four-year-old son of Nashville resident Todd Schrader, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001, at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident Monday, October 22, in Jennings County.
Born May 3, 1997, in Columbus, his mother, Kimberly D. Rooks Schrader, survives in Elizabethtown.
He attended Faith Victory Church and O.V.O. Head Start Preschool in North Vernon.

Geneva Bayne
Geneva Bayne died Thursday, November 1, 2001, at Brown County Health and Living Community. A former resident of Bloomington, she was 97.
Born October 16, 1904, in Greene County, she was the daughter of Walter and Bertha Mansfield Wade.
She married Carl Ellis Bayne Sr., who died November 26, 1984.
A retired hairdresser, she owned Geneva’s Beauty Shop. She also co-owned Bayne’s Harley Davidson in Bloomington.
Mrs. Bayne was a member of three square dance clubs, the Flying Hoosiers Motorcycle Club and Fairview United Methodist Church.

Martha Chambers
Martha Helen (Dickerson) Chambers, the mother of Nashville resident Barbara Stinson, died Saturday, October 27, 2001, at Homeview Center of Franklin. A longtime resident of that city, she was 77.
Born April 10, 1924, in North Vernon, she was the daughter of James A. and Anna L. (Johnson) Dickerson.
A 1942 graduate of North Vernon High School, Mrs. Chambers studied business administration at IUPUI Columbus.
She and James Barlett Chambers were married April 14, 1947. He died April 5, 1991.
She and her husband owned and operated Holthouse Furniture and Chambers Discount Furniture in Franklin for several years.

Richard Clark
Brown County native Richard A. Clark died Saturday, October 27, 2001. A resident of Columbus, he was 79.
Born April 27, 1922, in Brown County, he was the son of Rex and Dema (Sipes) Clark. They both preceded him in death.
He married Peggy J. Howe July 30, 1947. She died December 1, 1992.
Graduated from Brown County High School, Mr. Clark retired from Cummins Engine Company after 33 years of service.

Fred Green
Fred R. Green, the brother of Nashville resident Michelle A. Cline, died Tuesday, October 30, 2001, at his residence in Indianapolis. He was 40.
Born July 4, 1961, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Shirley R. and Rose Ann (Hayes) Green. They both survive.
He and Donna K. Moore were married May 15, 1982, in Indianapolis. She also survives.
A 1979 graduate of Franklin Central High School, Mr. Green was a dock worker and union steward at Consolidated Freightways for five years.
