BROWNSBURG -- Steven J. Ifert died Nov. 11 at his Brownsburg home. He was 49 and had formerly resided in Newburg. Born May 9, 1952, in Anderson, he was a son of the late Norman Ifert and Patricia (Davis) Mitchell, who survives and resides in Anderson. He married Laurie J. Ifert, who also survives. Mr. Ifert was a pharmacist for 26 years with CVS Pharmacy in Mooresville. He was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church. Additional survivors include daughters Rebecca Walsh of Brownsburg and Courtney Oldham of West Lafayette; a step-father, Jim Mitchell of Anderson; brothers Tim Ifert of Lapel, Jeff Ifert of Pendleton and Tracy Mitchell of Anderson; sisters Angie Terry of Anderson, Juli Markwell of Noblesville and Lisa Laird of Anderson. Services were held Nov. 14 at St. Malachy Catholic Church with Fr. Dan Staublin officiating. Interment was at St. Malachy Cemetery West. Matthews Mortuary handled arrangements. Hines
BROWNSBURG -- Thresia R. Hines died Nov. 8 at Brownsburg Health Care. She was 64 and had resided in Brownsburg for 26 years. Born July 25, 1937, in Indianapolis, she was a daughter of James and Julia (Yates) Hines. Mrs. Hines owned and operated Hobby Lobby Craft Shop in Brownsburg for 20 years before retiring in 1996. Prior to that, she worked 20 years for L.S. Ayres and five years at Jesse's Family Market in Brownsburg. Survivors include sisters Mary Woods and Betty Wilson, both of Brownsburg. Services were held Nov. 10 at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg with the Rev. Al Willhouse officiating. Interment was at Bethesda Cemetery in Brownsburg.

Kersey
INDIANAPOLIS -- Jack E. Kersey Sr. died Nov. 12 at his Indianapolis home. He was 70. Born July 19, 1931, in Plainfield, he was a son of Carl and Merle (Goodpastor) Kersey. He married Romona M. (McNutt) Kersey, who survives. Mr. Kersey was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served from 1948-52. He worked as a truck driver for Frank Moore Trucking in Phoenix, Ariz., from 1978-85 before retiring in 1985. Prior to that, he worked for Yellow Freight Lines and Overland Freight. He also worked as a detention officer at the Indiana Youth Center in Plainfield. He was a member of Spencer VFW Post #1405. Additional survivors include sons Jackie E. Kersey Jr. of Indianapolis, Karl E. Kersey of Utah, and Ric L. Kersey of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Deanie Hoffman of Avon; a sister, Sharon Mundy of Plainfield; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughters Sheila D. Watson and Marla Jean Kersey. Services will be 11 a.m. Nov. 16 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield with John Newlin officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home.

King
BROWNSBURG -- John Patrick King died Nov. 11 in Indianapolis. He was 37. Born Oct. 1, 1964, in Indianapolis, he was a son of Frank and Jeane (Christley) King. He married Stephanie K. (Bloomer) King, who survives. Mr. King worked four months as national sales manager at Nachi America Inc. Prior to that, he worked 10 years for Valenite Inc. He was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church in Brownsburg. Additional survivors include a son, Patrick C. King, and a brother, Tom King of Chicago. Services will be 1 p.m. today at St. Malachy Catholic Church with Fr. Dan Staublin officiating. Interment will follow at St. Malachy Cemetery in Brownsburg. Lindstrom
HAVANA, Ill. -- Helen T. Lindstrom died Nov. 8 at Havana Healthcare Center. She was 89. Born Nov. 24, 1911, in Chicago, she was a daughter of Peter and Mary (Hammerstedt) Decker. She married LeRoy Lindstrom on Nov. 22, 1930, in Chicago. He died May 18, 1983. Mrs. Lindstrom worked for Ford Motor Company and Jay's Potato Chips in Chicago. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Havana, Ill., and Havana Senior Citizens. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Harry Elliott of Havana, and Barbara and Dan Kacer of Plainfield; a sister, Esther Junkunc of Sebring, Fla.; and seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services were Nov. 10 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Havana with pastors Martin W. Liebmann and Dan Kacer officiating. Interment was at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Raigner
GREENFIELD -- Betty Ann Neely Raigner died Nov. 11 at her Greenfield home. She was 65 and had formerly resided in Clayton. Born Feb. 18, 1936, in Virginia, she was a daughter of Everett and Vola (Wallen) Neely. She married Paul Raigner on Oct. 28, 2000. He survives. Mrs. Raigner had been a secretary for WZPL Radio Station for more than 20 years. She was a member of Rawles St. Church of God in Cumberland. Additional survivors include three nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by brothers Billy and Evain "Tom" Neely. Services will be 1 p.m. Nov. 16 at Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home in Clayton. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 15 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Clayton Cemetery.

Robinson
STILESVILLE -- Mollie Scaggs Robinson died Nov. 7 at Hendricks Community Hospital in Danville. She was 75. Born July 26, 1926, in Rowan County, Ky., she was a daughter of Dee and Minnie (Blakenblecker) Scraggs. She was the widow of John Robinson. Mrs. Robinson worked for Mallorys and as a waitress in Stilesville for several years before retiring. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Jerry and Suzy Robinson of Sherman, Texas, James and Debbie Robinson of Plainfield, Roger and Tracy Robinson of Greencastle, David and Vikki Robinson of Amo, and Ron Robinson of Avon; daughters and sons-in-law Janet and Steve Wood of Plainfield and Patsy and Jim Hurrle of Indianapolis; sisters and brothers-in-law Mert and Roby Detro of Texas, Jean and Rusty Foxx of Greencastle, Anna and Lowell Stringer of Terre Haute and Freda Foxx of Greencastle; brothers and sisters-in-law Arlie and Betty Scaggs, Donald and Betty Scaggs, Junior and Carol Scaggs and Glenn and Roberta Scaggs, all of Greencastle; 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Robinson; a daughter-in-law, Dona Robinson; a brother, Burse Scaggs; and two grandsons. Ruark
ROCKVILLE -- Roland E. Ruark died Nov. 8 at Hendricks Community Hospital in Danville. He was 79. Born Dec. 23, 1921, in Putnam County, he was a son of Chester Burl and Emma Ethel (Hunter) Ruark. He was the widower of Betty L. Ratcliff, who died May 7, 1949. He then married Betty Jo (Davies) Seward on Nov. 1, 1999. She survives. Mr. Ruark was a 1940 graduate of Fillmore High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. He owned and operated Ruark Well Drilling with his son in Putnam, Parke and surrounding counties before retiring in 1986. He had been a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Rockville. Additional survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Diana Ruark of Rockville; daughters and sons-in-law LaConda "Connie" and Don Lambermont of Greencastle and LaReta Morrison of Avon; sisters Dorothy Toney of Sun City, Ariz., and Madeline O'Hair of Greencastle; a stepson, Joe and Cathy Seward of Rockville; a stepdaughter, Lou and Dan Spurr of Rockville; grandchildren Staci and Doug Parent of Greencastle, Travis and Amy Lambermont of Greencastle, Jamie and Ryan Ruark of Rockville, and Sara and Keenan Morrison, both of Avon; stepgrandchildren Annie and Sam Spurr, both of Rockville; great-grandchildren Dakota, Josie and Lyndi Parent, all of Greencastle. Sparks
INDIANAPOLIS -- Joyce Charlene Sparks died Nov. 10 in Indianapolis. She was 73. Born May 15, 1928, in Townley, Walker County, Ala., she was a daughter of Zellie M. Jordan of Indianapolis and the late Samuel C. Sparks. Mrs. Sparks worked 30 years as a statistician for Amax Coal Co. before retiring in 1991. She had been a member of First Baptist Church in Brazil. Additional survivors include a sister, Muriel F. Buzard of LaGrange, Ga., and a nephew, Brodley E. Buzard of LaGrange. Graveside services are pending at Carbon Hill in Alabama with the Rev. Vernal Sides officiating.

Steele
BROWNSBURG -- Jeanette Steele died Nov. 10 at Brownsburg Healthcare Center. She was 96. Born May 11, 1905, in Jamestown, she was a daughter of Cecil and Onetia (McCormack) Steele. Mrs. Steele graduated from Central Normal School and was a school teacher for 46 years. She taught in a one-room rural school in Hendricks County and at John S. Irwin School in Fort Wayne. She also taught in Lizton, Ladoga, Mooresville and Elkhart. Survivors include a sister, Miriam Jeffries of Brownsburg, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were brothers Darrell and Howard Steele. Graveside services were Nov. 13 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Jamestown with Betty Allen officiating.

Wethington
DANVILLE -- Clement E. Wethington died Nov. 10 at his daughter's home in Indianapolis. He was 75. Born Feb. 1, 1926, in Liberty, Ky., he was a son of Robert and Aletha Wethington. He was the widower of Marie (Poole) Wethington. Mr. Wethington was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a farmer and also worked 20 years for Wroten Scavenger Service in Danville. He had been a member of Danville American Legion Post #118. Survivors include sons Carmen Wethington of New Palestine, Terry, Lawrence and Randy Wethington, all of Fortville, and Donald Wethington of Indianapolis; daughters Rosetta Cantrell of Puerto Rico, Theresa Gross of Indianapolis and Letha Jordan of Fortville; a brother, Oval Wethington of Clementsville, Ky.; and 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. BLOOMFIELD -- Sandra Kay (Ward) Wethington died Nov. 2 in Bloomington. She was 58. Mrs. Wethington worked 25 years as a nursing QMA, two years as a truck driver and five years as an artist. Survivors include daughters and a son-in-law Melissa and Tony Butcher of Roachdale and Melanie Cherry of Bloomfield; a son, Clifford Brian Wethington of Bloomfield; a sister and brother-in-law, Sheila Ann and Ron Brown of Plainfield; brothers and sisters-in-law Lloyd C. and Delpha Ward of Lafayette, Adrian E. and Evelyn Ward of Indianapolis, James H. and Cindy Ward of Danville, and Mark A. and Brenda Ward of North Salem; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and six grandchildren. Tomi L. (Worthington) Forsythe of Avon died Dec. 19. She was 46. Born Oct. 17, 1955, in Indianapolis, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Roberta Jo (Lucas) Worthington. She married Mark R. Forsythe, who survives. Mrs. Forsythe served in the U.S. Marine Corp and was a 1978 graduate of Indiana University. She was a self-employed forensic accountant and professional consultant for 14 years before retiring earlier this year. She attended Bartlett Chapel United Methodist Church. Additional survivors include a daughter, Sarah L. Forsythe; sons Christopher, Benjamin and Andrew Forsythe; sisters Sandi Massey, Cathi Kiger Watson and Janey Zurface. Patricia Jean Hamblin of Fayetteville, Ark., died Dec. 17 at Fayetteville Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 69 and formerly resided in Lebanon. Born Nov. 2, 1932 , in Fayette, she was a daughter of the late Vaughn and Amilda (Clements) Belt. Mrs. Hamblin was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Fayette. Survivors include sons Donald, Tim, James, Paul and Emory Hamblin; a daughter, Gloria Maybee; a sister, Lavon Watson of Brownsburg; and three grandchildren. Velma I. Hesson of Plainfield died Dec. 18 at Parkwood Healthcare Center in Lebanon. She was 81. Born Nov. 7, 1920, in Washington, she was a daughter of the late Carl Conrad and Naomi Estel (Ashby) English. She married Raymond C. Hesson on Dec. 7, 1940. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Hesson was a 1938 graduate of Huntingburg High School. She was a retired U.S. government employee and a beautician. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, West Newton United Methodist Church and past president of the Indiana Chapter of Airstream International. Survivors include a daughter, Joeen Loveless of San Clemente, Calif.; sons Larry Hesson of Plainfield, John Hesson of Austin, Texas, Michael Hesson of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; sisters Amy Brooner and Marie Ferguson, both of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Leland English of Washington; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by a brother, Marvin Ferguson. Services were held Dec. 21 at the Nass and Son Funeral Home. Interment followed at Fairmount Cemetery.

Barbara K. Walls of Indianapolis died Dec. 19 at St. Vincent's Hospital. She was 56. Born June 14, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Ada (Hudson) Morse. Mrs. Walls was a homemaker and a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Speedway. Survivors include sons Steven Blythe and Michael Blythe, both of Indianapolis; sisters Diana White of Mooresville and Carla Mucha of Darien, Ga.; and five grandchildren. Debra "Debbie" Mann of Indianapolis died Dec. 19 at her Indianapolis home. She was 40. Born Nov. 3, 1961, in Indianapolis, she was a daughter of Ralph J. and Diane (Bilbee) Hopkins of Clayton. She married Randy L. Mann on June 12, 1996. He survives. Mrs. Mann was a 1980 graduate of Bethesda Christian High School in Brownsburg and a homemaker. She also had worked as a carpenter, pet shop manager, dietary worker for a nursing home, deli clerk, waitress and a child care provider. She also enjoyed gardening. Additional survivors include a son, Aaron Ward of Magnolia Springs, Ala., step-daughters April Popham of Ball Ground, Ga., and Tracy Mann of Lafayette; a brother, Rick Scott of Shelbyville; a sister, Lisa White of North Salem; a step-sister, Cathy Jo Phillips of Washington; a grandmother, Marianna Bilbee of Brownsburg; and a step-grandson, Devin Hiatt of Lafayette. She was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Hopkins. Services were held Dec. 22 at Myers Chapel of Memories in Lebanon with Pastor Brent Hopkins officiating. Lester L. Best of Indianapolis died Nov. 25. He was 71. Born Aug. 19, 1931, in Elizabethtown, Ky., he was a son of the late Lelvy and Lottie (Lane) Best. He married Marilyn Blackburn, who survives. Mr. Best worked as a laborer for the National Asbestos and Insulation Workers Local No. 18 and Plasterers Local No. 46 before retiring in 1980. He was a member of both locals. Doris M. (Kern) Carlin of Plainfield died Nov. 27 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. She was 73. Born March 5, 1929, in Lafayette, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert H. Kern and Nettie Fae Jackson. She was the widow of B.B. Carlin. Mrs. Carlin was a 1950 graduate of Purdue University. She worked for 15 years as a bank teller for Bank One of Plainfield. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Plainfield and Tri Kappa. She volunteered with the Ronald McDonald House and Hendricks Community Hospital. Survivors include a son, David K. Carlin of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughters Julie C. Land of Noblesville and Tudy Newlin of Clarendon Hill; a sister Margaret Knoop of Williams; and nine grandchildren. Pauline (Montgomery) Ellett of Plainfield died Nov. 27 at Hendricks Community Hospital in Danville. She was 88. Born Sept. 10, 1914, in Lizton, she was a daughter of the late Elsworth and Edna (Dowdy) Montgomery. She married Sylvester Kern Ellett on Sept. 18, 1932 in Coatesville. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Ellett worked 25 years as a key punch operator for the Link-Belt Corporation before retiring in 1976. She was a member of Clayton Baptist Church. Survivors include a son Ronald Ellett of Mooresville; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Services were Nov. 30 at Hall-Baker Funeral Home in Plainfield with Dennis Pickett officiating. Interment was at Stilesville Cemetery.

Fred W. Ellis of Greencastle died Nov. 27 at Hendricks Community Hospital in Danville. He was 66 and had formerly resided in Danville. Born Oct. 16, 1936, in Indianapolis, he was a son of the late Evelyn (Combs) Ellis. He married Inas Irene Brock Jan. 19, 1957. She survives. Mr. Ellis served eight years in the National Guard. He worked 16 years at American Bakeries as a shipping supervisor. Later, he worked 26 years as an operating engineer out of Local No. 841 before retiring in 1998. Additional survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Terri and Fred Nicholls of Poland, Evelyn and Greg Cooper of Gifford, Ill., Tammie and Kevin Hock of Fayetteville, Pa., Tina and Dave Nissen of Fillmore; a daughter, Darla Ellis of Huntington; brothers Jerry Ellis and Wayne Ellis; and eight grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a grandson. Services were Dec. 1 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle. Vincent L. Fisher of Indianapolis died Nov. 28 at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis. He was 56. Born Nov. 10, 1946 in Louisville, Ky., he was a son of the late Boyd Ellis Fisher and Jessie Mae Mathley. He married Clayroy L. Smith, who survives. Mr. Fisher worked 15 years as a mechanic for Koster-Swoop Buick in Louisville. Later, he worked 10 years as a general manager or Metropolitan Messenger Corporation in Indianapolis before retiring 1989. He was a member of Clifton Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky. Additional survivors include sons and daughters-in-law R.D. Born Oct. 23, 1938, in Bowling Green, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Garnett and Hattie (Russell) Meeks. She was the widow of Willie Lawson. Mrs. Lawson was a homemaker and self-employed home health aide. Also, she worked for Davis Orchards in Clayton. Survivors include a son, Ralph V. Simpson Jr., of Avon; daughters Angela V. Pevler

Carl E. Pevler died Nov. 25 at his Danville home. He was 78. Born May 8, 1924, in Acton, he was a son of the late Addison and Lakie (Hommel) Pevler. He married Inez DeBurger June 6, 1961, in Bargersville. She survives. Mr. Pevler graduated from Clark High School. He worked for 40 years as a truck driver before retiring in 1985 from ABF Trucking. He was a commander of Sons of American Legion Post No. 118. He was a member of the Western Star Lodge No. 26 F&AM, the Plainfield and Mooresville Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Danville Conservation Club, the Murat Shrine, Scottish Rite, Hendricks County Shriner's Club, Teamster's Retiree Club No. 135 and the Moose Lodge. He was also a member of Providence Christian Church in Bargersville. Additional survivors include a son, Vic Pevler of Danville; daughters Rita Page and Carla Wiggam, both of Danville; a sister, Helen Gill of Plainfield; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were sons Gene Pevler and Rex Pevler; and a brother, Leroy Pevler. Services were Nov. 30 at Baker Funeral Home in Danville. Interment was at South Cemetery in Danville.

Rosemary (Brown) Smiley of Greencastle died Nov. 25 at Hendricks Community Hospital in Danville. She was 71 and had formerly resided in Indianapolis. Born May 12, 1931, in Tuscon, Ariz., she was a daughter of the late Cleo A. and Lois L. (Byram) Brown. She married Gerald W. "Jerry" Smiley April 18, 1952. He survives. Mrs. Smiley was a homemaker. She was a member of Roachdale Christian Church. Additional survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Mark W. and Rebecca Smiley of Indianapolis and Rick W. and Leisa Smiley of Greencastle; a daughter and son-in-law Lisa L. and Kevin Hensley of Danville; a brother, David H. Brown of Plainfield; a sister Dorothea MacGruder of Coatesville; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services were Nov. 29 at Roachdale Christian Church with the Rev. John Nolan officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Putnam County.

Harriet Mitzi (Platt) Taivalkoski of Plainfield died Nov. 26 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. She was 72. Born Oct. 11, 1930, in Stevens Point, Wis., she was a daughter of the late Burchard Platt and Letha Flower. She married George W. Taivalkoski, who survives. Mrs. Taivalkoski was a graduate of Indiana University. She worked as a legal secretary for Cinergy in Plainfield and Henderson, Daley, Withrow and Devoc law firm in Indianapolis. Additional survivors include sons Kevin P. Taivalkoski of Plainfield and Thomas G. Taivalkoski of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Laura Jean Hamilton of Greenwood; a brother, Charles Platt of Chesapeake, Ohio; sisters Lois Berghold, Ramona Forrest and Beth Platt, all of Phoenix, Ariz. and Marian Goddard of Plainfield; grandchildren Stuart Hamilton, Joshua Hamilton, Markella Taivalkoski, Katrina Taivalkoski, Gregory Taivalkoski, Emeri Taivalkoski and Kacie Taivalkoski. Services were Nov. 30 at the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield with the Rev. George D. Silavs officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent Hospice and the A.L.S. Association of Indiana.

Donald Austin Tretter of Indianapolis died Nov. 26. He was 71. Born April 2, 1931, in Petersburg, he was a son of the late Jacob Tretter and Antoinetta Brosemer. He married Janet Warren, who survives. Mr. Tretter worked 35 years as a cable loop supervisor at Ameritech before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Ben Davis Lions Club. Additional survivors include daughters Janeen Spaulding of Brownsburg and Lizabeth VerKamp of Indianapolis; a sister, Imogene Perry of Monroe City; brothers David Tretter of Indianapolis and LeeRoy Tretter of Tuscon, Ariz.; and a granddaughter, Anya VerKamp. Services were Nov. 30 at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Danville with the Rev. Don Buchanan officiating. Interment was at West Ridge Park Cemetery in Indianapolis. Conkle Funeral Home in Avon handled arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Ben Davis Lions Club in care of Louis Kleis, 70 N. Merrimac Place, Indianapolis, IN 46214.

Betty C. (Allee) Wood died Nov. 26 at her Coatesville home. She was 60. Born May 4, 1942 in Greencastle, she was a daughter of the late Delbert Allee and Mozella McKnight of Coatesville. She married Carol Lee Wood, who survives. Mrs. Wood worked 23 years as a benefits specialist with the Indiana State Police before retiring in 2002. She was a member of Coatesville Christian Church. Additional survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Brandee Wood of Terre Haute; and a grandson, Peyton Wood. Preceding her in death was a brother, Richard Allee. Services were Nov. 30 at Coatesville Christian Church. Interment was at Coatesville Cemetery.
