Mrs. Orell E. C. Haack. Mrs. Orell Eliza Curtis Haack, 73, died at the Clinic at 5 a.m. today following a two-year illness. She had been a patient there for more than a year. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hummer mortuary. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. Friends may call at the Hummer mortuary tomorrow afternoon, evening and Thursday. Pallbearers will be her six sons, Leroy, Albert, Lewis, Howard, Charles and Norman Haack, all of this city. Mrs. Haack was born Oct. 13, 1879, in Iowa, the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Willard Curtis. She had lived here since childhood. On May 1, 1890, she married Charles A. J. Haack, who preceded her in death. In addition to her sons she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John Riley, Niles, Mich., Mrs. Jack Moore, Maxey, Ga., Mrs. Joseph Hart, Indianapolis, an adopted son, Clyde C. Haack, Indianapolis, 24 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Frank Palmateer, Gary. Four children preceded her in death.

OLD MAN KILLED. Aged Resident of Porter Met Untimely Fate Today. Friday, November 26. W.W. Curtis, Porter, a tottering old gentleman of 80 years, was killed this morning by a Michigan Central freight train at Porter. He walked between two cars and it was reported that he committed suicide, but that theory is discredited at Chesterton.

HIRAM L. CURTIS. VALPARAISO, Dec. 29-Last rites for Hiram L. Curtis, 68, who died Sunday night in his home, 303 Greenwich, after several years' illness with heart trouble, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 in the LePell & Son funeral home. Rev. C.M. Smail of the Christian church, will officiate, with burial in Graceland cemetery. Friends may call this evening and Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Curtis was born on Feb. 23, 1868 in Union township, Porter county, one of eight children born to Edward and Catherine (Hesser) Curtis. For many years he was engaged in farming in Union township. About fourteen years ago he came to Valparaiso and purchased the property where he now resides. Mr. Curtis never married. He was quiet and unassuming and had a large circle of friends. Particularly was he fond of children. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Byron Rigg, of Valparaiso, and Mrs. Reuben Quinn, of Odell, Neb., eighteen nephews and nieces.

GUY DODGE. LA PORTE, Ind. -- Guy W. Dodge, 84, Countryside Place, died at 4:58 p.m. yesterday (May 15, 1979 ) after a lengthy illness. Funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Root Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Gamuaf officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Friday until the service. Mr. Dodge was born Aug. 4, 1894, in Beaver Falls, Pa., to Gedion and Ninnie (Whutman) Dodge. He is survived by one son, George, Akron, Ohio, and one brother, William, Sarasota, Fla.

Mrs. Auga Bayles, age 92 years, 1 month and 5 days, passed away Tuesday, Apr 12, at 12:45 o'clock in the morning at her home in Valparaiso. She had been ill two weeks and death was due to age and heart fatigue. Auga Ann Curtis was born in Porter township, Porter county, IN, on Mar 7, 1849, the d/o Philander and Catherine Ann Curtis. She had always made her home in Porter county. On Jan. 21, 1844, she was united in marriage to John H.G. Bayles at (__) Grove, IN. After their marriage they lived about 2 miles east of Wheeler and then moved to Portage township where they resided on a farm for 2 years. About Mar 2, 18?? Mr. & Mrs. Bayles moved to Furnessville where they lived until 1920 on their farm which is adjacent to the Bayles schoolhouse. They resided in Chesterton for one year and then moved to Valparaiso where they have resided since. Mr. & Mrs. Bayles lived happily together for 62 years. Mr. Bayles, a Civil War veteran, passed away 12 years ago. Mrs. Bayles was a member of the Christian church since childhood. People here knew her as Grandma Bayles by her friends and a true friend. She was a member of the Chesterton Eastern Stars. She died in Valparaiso, IN. Funeral was at Flynn Chapel in Chesterton. Auga died at 12:45 in the morning at her home in Valparaiso. She had been ill two weeks and death was due to age and heart failure. Auga was born in Porter township, Porter Cty, IN. After their marriage they lived about two miles east of Wheeler for one year and then moved to Portage township where they resided on a farm for two years. About Mar 1, 1869 they moved Furnessville where they lived until 1920 on their farm, adjacent to the Bayles schoolhouse. They resided in Chesterton for one year and then in 1921 moved to Valparaiso where they resided since. John and Auga lived together happily for 62 years. She is survived by 28 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren. Also two sons preceded her in death. (Also included with the Dee's obit note to me is: "As a widow of John Auga collected benefits in 1894."
J.H.G. Bayles
Father of Mrs. O.D. Fay of MI City, died Wednesday in Valparaiso. He was 82 years old. His widow and several children survive him. J.W. Bayles, of Detroit, formerly of this city, is a s/o the decedant. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock on Saturday afternoon from the Methodist Church in Chesterton, the burial will be in Furnessville. (Furnessville Cem. 275 E. 1500 N., Westchester)

THE DEATH RECORD. Conrad F. Switzer died at 5 o’clock this morning at the Holy Family hospital, where he had been ill for four weeks, having been a sufferer for some time with kidney disease. He was born in Wuerttemberg, Germany, Mar 20, 1824. He came to America in 1866, locating in this city. His marriage to Miss Catherine Hoch was solemnized in 1862 in Germany. Four children were born in the union, two of whom survive, Gust Sweitzer, of this city, and John Sweitzer, postmaster at Union Mills. He also leaves a sister in Germany. For many years Mr. Switzer was employed as a seed salesman and gardener. The funeral, which will be strictly private, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, at the home of Gust Sweitzer on Maple avenue. Friends may view the remains from 12 to 1 o’clock Sunday. Weir & Sievert are the funeral directors.

Onalee Curtis. Mrs. Onalee Curtis, 75, of 506 Pine Lake Ave., La Porte, died Tuesday, May 15, at 4:50 p.m. at Fountainview Terrace Nursing Home. She was born Aug 1 1903, in Hartford, Mich., to Roy and Bertha (Meachum) Andrews and had lived there most of her life, coming from Hartford. On Feb. 11, 1922, in La Porte, she married Lloyd Curtis, Sr., who died in 1965. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Carmo) Johnson of La Porte and Mrs. William (Sandra) McVay of Niles, Mich.; one son, Lloyd J. Jr. of MI City; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Farrell Andrews and one sister, Mrs. Robert Weiler, both of La Porte. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Essling Funeral Chapel with the Rev. William McVay officating. DROWNING AT LA PORTE. Youth Eleven Years Old Finds Watery Grave. Edwin Brenn, aged 11 years, adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Sweitzer of La Pore was drowned in Stone lake north of La Porte at 7:30 o'clock Thursday evening while in bathing. The body was not recovered until morning when it was found in 30 feet of water and at a point 60 feet from where he drowning took place. The deceased is survived by his father and three brothers who reside in Chicago. Funeral Sunday afternoon at the German M.E. church at La Porte.

She was married here July 31, 1943, to Robert Johnson, who survives. Also surviving are two children, Myla Lynn Spitka and David, both of this city; one grandson; two sisters and three brothers. Mrs. George (Ann) Butch, Stanley and Walter, all of Lansing; Mrs. Victoria Juba, Tiltonsville, Ohio; and Henry, Barton, Ohio. Two brothers, Joseph and Frank, are deceased.
