Roscoe H. Knight Jr.

WESTPHALIA -- Roscoe H. Knight Jr., 65, Westphalia, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Born in Orange County, he was the son of Roscoe H. and Della F. (Jones) Knight Sr. He married Marjorie W. Hall on Jan. 20, 1957, and she survives.
He was a Korean War Navy veteran and contract carrier for Moorman Manufacturing Co., Sandborn and Paoli. He owned and operated Roscoe-Marjorie Tavern in Westphalia for 13 years. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 192 at Edwardsport and the French Club.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie W. Knight of Westphalia; one daughter, Teresa Franklin of Sandborn; four sons: Martin and Dale Knight, both of Vincennes, Tracy Knight of Sandborn and David Knight of Salt Lake City, Utah; one brother, Marlin Knight of Mooresville; four grandchildren, one niece and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Eric Knight, and one grandson.
A graveside service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Marco Cemetery with the Rev. David Wharton officiating.

Norma J. Figley
Jan. 23, 1931-June 26, 1998
Norma J. Figley, 67, 3326 Michael Ave., Bedford, died at 7:49 a.m. Friday at her home.
Born in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Russell C. Doub and Laura L. Dobson
She had worked at RCA in Bloomington and Ford Electronics in Bedford. She was a member of Grace Full Gospel Church in Bedford.
Surviving are two daughters: Teresa Blackburn of Springville and Christina Crites of Bedford; one son, Jason Figley of Bloomington; one sister, Sarah Kathryn Taylor of Bloomington; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Brent O'Neal officiating. Burial will be in Cloverhill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
Friends may call at Day & Carter Mortuary, Bedford, from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and at Grace Full Gospel Church Monday from 9 a.m. until the service.
David A. Bender
Oct. 22, 1948- June 25, 1998
BLOOMINGTON -- David A. Bender, 49, Bloomington, died Thursday at his residence.
Born in Indianapolis, he was the son of Harold and Christine (Crafton) Bender.
He was secretary-treasurer of Bender Lumber Company, which is based in Bloomington and operates stores in a number of other communities including Bedford.
He was a graduate of University High School, Bloomington, and attended Indiana University, Bloomington. He held a competition license with the Sports Car Club of America.
Survivors include a son, Brian Bender of Bloomington; a daughter, Carie Beth Bender of Bloomington; his father, Harold Bender of Bloomington; two brothers, John and Paul Bender, both of Bloomington, and a companion, Stacy Lentz of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Allen Funeral Home, 3000 E. Third St., Bloomington, with burial in Clear Creek Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scouts of America or the American Lung Association.
Hugh W. Trosper
June 27, 1920-June 18, 1998
PAOLI -- Hugh W. Trosper, 77, Paoli, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at his residence.
Born in Plainville, he was the son of John Henry and Nora Trosper.
He was a 1939 graduate of Plainville High School and was a life member of the Midwest Weavers Association. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and worked a hair dresser.
He is survived by one brother, John Trosper of Indianapolis; care takers: Donald and Donna Newton of Orange Park, Fla., and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Samuel, Joseph, Noah and Garner Trosper.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the McAdams Mortuary.
No visitation will be held because the body will be cremated.
Patrick J. Guthrie
Aug. 10, 1952-June 19, 1998
MEDORA -- Patrick J. Guthrie, 45, Medora, died at 1:55 a.m. Friday at the Bedford Regional Medical Center.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of Raymond "Sharkey" and Mollie (Murphin) Guthrie.
He was employed as a security guard at Williams' Investigation in Mitchell.
He is survived by a companion, Phyllis Clampitt; five brothers: Jim Guthrie, Art Guthrie and Stan Guthrie, all of Bedford, Mike Guthrie of Mitchell and George Guthrie of Columbus and two sisters: Myrtle Arnold and Clara Payton, both of Bedford.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hague Funeral Home in Medora with the Rev. Richard Chase officiating. Burial will be in the Leesville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until the service time on Monday at the funeral home.
Helen Deane
June 24, 1904-June 17, 1998
Helen Deane, 93, 1305 K St., died at 5:25 a.m. Wednesday at Hospitality House, Bedford.
Born in Bedford, she was the daughter of Clifford and Maude (Teague) Bickenheuser.
She retired from George O. Mayer & Co., Indianapolis and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 129, both of Bedford.
Surviving are one son, David Deane of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Mary Utterback of Bedford; two grandsons and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jim Bickenheuser.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Cresthaven Memory Gardens Chapel with the Rev. Steve Braden officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from noon until service time at the chapel.

Wilbur Winterrowd

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Wilbur L. Winterrowd, 82, Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Bedford, died at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
He was born in Peru, Ind. He married Reva Grant, and she survives.
He retired from Brunner Engineering in Bedford, was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the Battle of the Bulge, and former bank courier for Corporate Express in Fort Myers. He was a member of Harmony Christian Church in Leisure and a former member of the Civil Air Patrol.
Surviving are his wife, Reva Winterrowd of Elwood; two daughters: Janet Miller Beeson and Terri Strohl, both of Elwood; one son, Randy Paul Winterrowd of Fort Myers; three sisters: Leota Winterrowd of Upland, Helen Brown of Hartford City and Lola Banter of Marion; one brother, Weldon Winterrowd of Sweetser; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, Fairmount, with Kent Clark officiating. Graveside military rites will be accorded by members of Grant County Military Honor Guard.

James W. Deckard

James W. Deckard, 82, R.14, died at 11:10 p.m. Saturday at Dunn Memorial Hospital, Bedford.
Born in Lawrence County, he was the son of George Washington and Arizona (Stewart) Deckard. He married Madelyn Kinser on Dec. 24, 1937, and she survives.
He was a farmer and retired gang sawyer for Indiana Limestone Co., a life member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, a member of Springville Feeder Association and attended the Valley Mission Church.
Also surviving are three sons: James E., George B. and Jerry Don Deckard, all of Bedford; one daughter, Julia Spires of Bedford; one brother, Clinton Deckard of Lawrence County; two sisters: Cleo Hillenburg of Bloomington and Goldie Prince of Heltonville; 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Day & Carter Mortuary, Bedford, with the Rev. J.D. Pickett officiating. Burial will follow in Hanson Cemetery.

Carolyn E. Robertson, 78, Bedford, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday at Hospitality House, Bedford, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Unsinkinko, Korea, she was the daughter of Dr. Moorman Owen and L'Mee (Lehmann) Robertson.
She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Surviving are one sister, Myra Anne Henrywhose address was not provided; one niece and one great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Juanita Pruett

ORLEANS -- Juanita Pruett, 55, Orleans, died Sunday morning at Bedford Regional Medical Center.
Born in Evansville, she was the daughter of Paul and Elsie (Vines) Middleton. She married Roy Gene Pruett on June 16, 1961, and he died Oct. 21, 1994.
She had worked for the former Middleton Motors and later for the former Dan Pearcy Chevrolet in Mitchell. She was a 1961 graduate of Orleans High School, a member of Orleans Baptist Church, Order of Eastern Star No. 352, and a volunteer at Bedford Regional Medical Center.
Surviving are one son, Scott Pruett of Orleans; one daughter, Lisa Pruett of Bedford; one brother, Larry Middleton of Orleans; one sister, Donna Parish of Mitchell; companion, Ellis Reynolds of Orleans; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Carol Sue Middleton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home, Orleans, with Brother Mike Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Baptist Cemetery, Orleans.

ORLEANS -- Gladys Smith, 95, Orleans, died Sunday at Paoli Convalescent Center.
Born in Orleans, she was the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth (Brewer) Wallace. She married Rodger L. Smith on Oct. 23, 1937, and he died April 6, 1942.
She had worked for the Progress Ezaminer for 19 years as a reporter and bookkeeper and then worked for Public Service Indiana for 21 years before retiring in 1963. She worked for the Orleans Public Library for 10 years and later answered the phone for Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home for several years. She was a member of Orleans Christian Church, a charter member of the Orleans Phi Beta Psi sorority and a member of Orleans Eastern Star No. 352. She was a 1921 graduate of Orleans High School and attended Indiana State University.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mable Walker.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home, Orleans, with Bro. Thomas Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery, Salem.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. -- Bryce P. Hudleson, 95, Elizabethtown, Ky., formerly of Paoli, died at 9:20 p.m. Saturday at Elizabethtown Nursing Home.
Born in Blair, Neb., he was the son of Henry and Belle (Pipher) Hudleson. He married Goldie Newlin and she died in 1989.
He was a retired landscape gardener.
Surviving are three daughters: Evelyn Hittson of Orlando, Fla., Ann Cason of Stuart, Fla., and Lavonna O'Korn of Elizabethtown, Ky.; one son, Jerome Hudleson of Arvada, Colo., and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McAdams Mortuary, Paoli, with Brother Harvey McAdams officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellow Cemetery, Paoli.

ORLEANS -- Ray H. Hall, 85, Orleans, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at his residence.
Born in Crawford County, he was the son of Edwin and Margaret (Morgan) Hall. He married Iona Crawford and she died in 1975.
He was a retired truck driver for Lucus Trucking and a member of Moose Lodge of Indianapolis and Eagles Lodge of Bedford.
Surviving are his companion, Evelyn Patton; six sons: Robert E. Hall (address unknown), David and Terry Crawford, both of Kentucky, Ferril Crawford of Crawford County, Sam Crawford of Brazil and Robert Patton of Bloomington; five daughters: Lois Marie Jenkins of Bloomfield, Beverly Ward, Faith Pearce and Joanie Rissler, all of Brazil and Trillis Kendall of Orleans; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McAdams Mortuary, Paoli, with Brother Harvey McAdams and Brother Darrell Land officiating. Burial will follow in Paoli Community Cemetery.

She was born in Belmont, Ill. She married Theadore Roosevelt Drake and he died in July, 1989.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are two sons: Robert Drake of Paoli and Donald Drake of French Lick; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild.

SALEM -- Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Weathers Funeral Home, Salem, for Mary E. Cauble, 83, Salem, who died at 4 p.m. Friday at Heritage House. Brother Paul Martin will officiate and burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery, Salem.
Born in Miami County, she was the daughter of Milton and Carrie (Wray) Bruck. She married Charles N. Cauble and he died in 1947.
She was a retired kitchen worker for Washington County Memorial Hospital, Salem, and a member of old Mount Zion Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son, Norman D. Cauble of Salem; one daughter, Benita Lawson of Pekin; one brother, Ray Bruck of Salem; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

BLOOMINGTON -- Elma "Fern" Jones, 81, Bloomington, formerly of French Lick, died Sunday at Beverly Health Care Center.
Born in Orange County, she was the daughter of Martie and Maude (King) Crews. She married William Blakely, who died in 1970 and Leonard Jones, who died in 1982.
She taught for 42 years with Monroe County Community School Corp., 30 of which were at Elm Heights Elementary School. An Indiana University graduate, she was a member of North Central Church of Christ, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, and a member, past president and secretary of the Monroe County Retired Teachers Association.
Surviving are two sisters: Mary Bernhardt and Louise Fenton, both of Bloomington; one stepson, Ben Jones of Austin, Texas; one stepdaughter, Bonnie Sperry of Bloomington; four step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Crews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home, Bloomington, with Oliver Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery.

MARTINSVILLE -- Kathryn Dixon, 91, Martinsville, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at her residence.
Born in French Lick, she was the daughter of Logan and Bess (Dewey) Ballard. She married Frank Dixon in 1935 and he preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and had worked at the French Lick Hotel. She was a former member of Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church, French Lick, and a member of St. Martins Catholic Church, Martinsville.
Surviving are one son, Martin Dixon of Quincy; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, James Logan Ballard.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ames Chapel Cemetery, West Baden.
Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the cemetery.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Marceille Gahl, 81, Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Mitchell, died Nov. 15 at her residence.
Born in Bartholomew County, she was the daughter of Lora and Vivian (Mobley) Jolliff. She married Edward Gahl in 1944, and he survives.
She was a homemaker, gardener, golfer and charter member of Anceil Hoffman Women's Golf Club in Sacramento, Calif. She was a 1936 graduate of Mitchell High School.
Also surviving are two daughters: Barbara Clark of Redmond, Wash., and Sandra Watson of Sacramento, Calif.; one brother, Jack Jolliff of Santa Ana, Calif.; one sister, Martha Jean Holler of Mitchell; two grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Paul and James Joliff; and two sisters: Georgia Buher and Mary Tow.
Burial was in California.
