Harold Z. Wood, 79, Westview Nursing and Rehab Center, Bedford, formerly of Mitchell, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Westview.
Born in Mitchell, he was the son of Robert and Edna M. (Clouse) Wood Sr. He married Lela Chastain on Feb. 16, 1940, and she survives.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the European Theater, and a retired truck driver. He had worked for Hall Brothers in Orleans and Jefferson Trucking in Shoals. He was a member of Mitchell Church of Christ, Senior Citizens, Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and served on the board of directors of Hoosier Uplands.
Surviving with his wife of Mitchell are one son, Ronald Wood of Detroit, Mich.; one daughter, Brenda Dorsett of Bloomington; two brothers: Chester and Robert Wood Jr., both of Mitchell; one sister, Betty Speck of Mitchell; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Kenneth, Lowell and Glenn Wood; one sister, Mildred Baker; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mitchell Church of Christ with Brother Allen Burris officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery, with graveside military rites accorded by members of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, Mitchell.

POLK CITY, Fla. -- Homer Dale Miller, 68, Polk City, Fla., formerly of Bedford, died Tuesday in Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Fla.
Born in Oolitic, he was the son of Charles Wesley and Martha Mary Miller. He married Shirley Ann Pruett in September 1950, and she survives.
He retired from General Motors, where he worked in the maintenance department and also Delco Remy in Anderson. He was a member of the First Church of Nazarene in Winter Haven, Fla., and United Auto Workers Local 662.
Surviving with his wife of Polk City, Fla., are three daughters: Cheryl Wainscott of Indianapolis, Michele Grills of Anderson and Beverly Hicks of Lafayette; four brothers: Bill, Charles and Dean Miller, all of Bedford, and Houbert Miller of Indianapolis; three sisters: Lois Walters and Reva Roberts, both of Bedford, and Sharon Lucas of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Winter Haven, Fla., and 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carmony-Ewing Broadway Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with the Rev. Richard Carr officiating.

COLDWATER, Mich. -- Cleo Underwood, 84, Coldwater, Mich., formerly of Bedford, died at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Coldwater.
Born in Shawnee Town, Mo., she was the daughter of William and Mary Holt. She married the Rev. Ralph Underwood on Nov. 4, 1932, and he preceded her in death.
She was an evangelist and minister of United Pentecostal Church for 60 years.
Surviving are one daughter, Fayretta McPheron of Taylor, Mich.; two sons: the Rev. Fred Underwood of Bedford and the Rev. Ralph Underwood of Coldwater; one sister, Alma Ragsdale of Bedford; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Billy Joe Underwood; and several brothers and sisters.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Day & Carter Mortuary, Bedford, with the Rev. W.T. Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery, Bedford.

Nova Fern Lewis
CAMPBELLSBURG -- Nova Fern Lewis, 88, Campbellsburg, died at 8:15 p.m. Sunday at Heritage House of Salem.
Born in Washington County, she was the daughter of Sanford and Gertrude (Busick) Fancher. She married Clarence D. Lewis on June 24, 1934, and he died Feb. 23, 1982.
She was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church in Gould, Ark.
Surviving are two daughters: Juanita Leffler of Corydon and Nita Batchelor of Campbellsburg; one son, Carl Lewis of Campbellsburg; four sisters: Opal Fancher of California, Beulah Watson of Clarksville, Pat Collins of North Carolina and Dora Coddings of Georgia; one brother, George Fancher of Florida; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Herschel, Therman and McClellan Fancher; and one sister, Ella Mae Fancher.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chastain Funeral Home, Mitchell, with the Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Burial will be in Stampers Creek Cemetery.

SHOALS -- Helen Pauline Robbins, 76, Shoals, died at 3:58 p.m. Saturday at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Born in Martin County, she was the daughter of Hershel and Pearl (Ballard) Payton. She married Charles Robbins on March 1, 1937, and he preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are three sons: Charles Edward of French Lick, Ronnie Lee and Larry D. Robbins, both of Shoals; two daughters: Betty Ann Gilbert and Sandra K. Spears, both of Shoals; a sister, Catherine Vessal; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Queen-Lee Funeral Home, Shoals. Burial will be in Trinity Springs Cemetery.

BLOOMINGTON -- James H. Stillman, 71, Bloomington, died at 5:55 a.m. Sunday at Bloomington Hospital.
Born in Lawrence County, he was the son of Harold W. and Minnie L. (Hawkins) Stillman Sr.
He was a retired florist having worked at Ellis Floral Shop and Bouquet Shop. He was a member of the Methodist Church and 1949 graduate of Shawswick High School.
Surviving are two nephews: Timothy Stillman of Bedford and Neal Stillman of Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; lifetime companion, Manford Lee Hough who died Sept. 10, 1997; two brothers: George E. and Harold "Windy" Stillman Jr.; and one sister, Ida Jeanette McCullough.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene & Harrel Chapel, Bloomington, with Pastor Lowell Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Clover Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

MITCHELL -- James L. Edmonson, 31, Mitchell, died at 5:55 a.m. today at Dunn Memorial Hospital, Bedford.
Born in Bedford, he was the son of James E. and Sue (Mattix) Edmonson. He married Rebecca Barlow on July 3, this year, and she survives.
He worked as an underground cable layer in Shelbyville and was of Protestant faith.
Surviving with his wife are his parents, James and Sue Edmonson of Mitchell; one son, James Cayden Edmonson of Bloomfield; three daughters: Jamahlyn and Natasha Edmonson, both of Orleans, and Brianna Barlow of Mitchell; two brothers: Robbie and Jerrid Edmonson, both of Mitchell; and several aunts and uncles.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Haverly Mortuary, Mitchell. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

She is survived by Marietta Montgomery, who was her caregiver for more than 28 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Howard Cook.

Born in New Albany, she was the daughter of William Woodrow and Vivian (Nash) Knight.
She was a homemaker and a member of the homemakers club.
Surviving are two sisters: Donna Jones of Middletown, Ill., and Olive Andry of Eckerty; two brothers: Bill Knight of Pana, Ill., and Larry Knight of Orleans; her maternal grandmother, Opal Nash of English, with whom she had lived with for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Lonna Knight.

SPRINGVILLE -- Charles Robert Stewart, 77, R.2, Springville, died at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn Memorial Hospital, Bedford, after a lengthy illness. Born in Lawrence County, he was the son of John David and Effie Elizabeth (Ray) Stewart. He married Mary Ellen Miller on Sept. 20, 1941, and she survives. He was a World War II Army veteran, receiving the Purple Heart with Bronze Star, EAME Theater Service Medal, three Bronze Battle Stars and Oak Leaf Cluster. He retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane and worked as a farmer. He was member of the Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, and Federation of Government Workers. He was a former Boy Scout leader. Surviving with his wife are one son, Danny Charles Stewart of Oolitic; two daughters: Donna Gayle Chinn of Ravenna, Ohio, and Diana Sue Flynn of Springville; one sister, Catherine Hannum of Oolitic; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Audrey Owens, and two brothers: Lloyd Godsey and Doyle "Dean" Stewart. He married Wanda Terrell on April 13, 1974, and she survives. He was a self-employed contractor. (Clements) Barrett. She married Clair Robert Fisher on Jan. 17, 1942, and he died April 16, 1993. She was a homemaker and member of Woodville Baptist Church. She married Robert V. Myers and he died in May 1982. She was a retired telephone operator with Indiana Bell and a member of the 25th Street Church of Christ. Surviving are two daughters: Virginia "Gini" Bonebrake of Columbus and Sandy Haanen of Grand Rapids, Minn.; two brothers: John Mann of Mitchell and Ollie Man of Tennessee; one sister, Elsie Branan of Bedford; four grandchildren and one great-grandson. SHOALS -- Thomas A. George, 87, Shoals, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Martin County Health Care and Rehab Center. Born in Martin County, he was the son of Thomas and Oma (Wade) George. He married Vera Holt in 1931 and she died in 1940, Bernadette Dobson in 1941 and she died in 1973, and Wilma Wininger in 1974 and she died in 1986. He had been a foreman at National Gypsum, county highway superintendent in Martin County, past Martin County commissioner and councilman and was self-employed in the honey business. He was a member of Dover Hill Christian Union Church. Surviving are three sons: John George of Indianapolis, Hilbert and Carroll George, both of Shoals; five daughters: Mary Ann Kuper of Jasper, Mariane Baugh, Linda Bauer and Donna Downs, all of Shoals and Norma Jean Sims of Odon; one half brother, William Strange of Burn City; 17 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeremy George; three grandsons and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dover Hill Christian Union Church. Born in Burns City, she was the daughter of Alexander Bradford and Julia Ann (Scott) Girdley. She married James Arles Kirby on March 21, 1936, and he died Sept. 25, 1981. MITCHELL -- Edward Lee Beavers, 60, Mitchell, died Friday at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born in Lawrence County, he was the son of Edward Esco and Grace (Bridges) Beavers. He married Mary Jane Baker on April 26, 1968, and she survives. He was an Army veteran and worked at Dana Corporation in Mitchell. He was a graduate of Huron High School and a member of Mitchell Church of Christ and the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250. Surviving with his wife are five half-brothers: Opal Leroy Edwards of Mansfield, Texas, Jim Beavers of Tunnelton, Carl Beavers of Mitchell, Richard Beavers and Michael Beavers, both of Owensburg; and six half-sisters: Darlene Rose White of Mitchell, Ollia Mae Houshour and Patricia Lauderdale, both of Bloomington, Victoria Allen and Wilma Frazier, both of Bedford, and Susie Allgood of Buddha. BROWNSTOWN -- Everett Smith, 87, Brownstown, formerly of Medora, died Friday at Memorial Hospital in Seymour. Born in Lawrence County, he was the son of Frank and Nora (Gullet) Smith. He married Edith L. Johnson on Feb. 5, 1940, and she survives. He had worked as a truck driver, a security guard at Marion-Kay in Brownstown and a foreman at Medora Plastics. He was also a Medora Town Marshal for many years. He was a member of the Driftwood Christian Church. Surviving with his wife are a son, Jerry D. Smith of Brownstown; a daughter, Mary Smith of St. Paul; two brothers: Noble "Smooty" Smith of Vallonia and Orville Smith of Russiaville; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Fay Smith; a sister, Virginia Cottingham; and three brothers: Hiram, Neal and Taft Smith. He married Capitola Hall on Jan. 19, 1950, and she survives. He was the owner of the old Wrightway Service Station in Pekin and an ordained Baptist minister. Surviving with his wife are two daughters: Diana Butler of Louisville, Ky., and Loretta Nicholson of Pekin; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
