Lena L. Reynolds

Lena L. Reynolds, 76, R.11, died at 1:26 a.m. Tuesday at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center, Mitchell. Born in Kent County, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of Frederick and Nancy Jane (Newberry) Jones. She married Benjamin F. Reynolds Sr., and he died in 1958. She had been manager at the old Lindley Hotel in Mitchell and was a member of Mundell Christian Church. Surviving are one daughter, Miriam E. King of Bedford; two sons: Robert P. Reynolds of Spencer and Roger A. Reynolds, Sandown, N.H.; two sisters: Clova Woodley of Bangor, Mich., and Clara Stevens of LaGrange; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters: Loretta Douglas and one in infancy; four sisters, three brothers and one grandchild. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Chastain Funeral Home, Mitchell, with the Rev. Bob Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Vivian M. Peterson
Feb. 14, 1917-Jan. 26, 1999
Vivian Marie Peterson, 81, 520 Fifth St., died Tuesday at Bloomington Hospital. Born in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Walter and Inez (Kinder) Williams. She married J. Robert Peterson on May 30, 1936, and he died Dec. 18, 1983. She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where she belonged to the Altar Society and was a 20-year choir member. She was a member of Omega Nu Tau Sorority and volunteered with the American Red Cross and St. Vincent Thrift Store. Surviving are one son, Larry Peterson of Lake Zurich, Ill.; one daughter, Emily Levitt of Middletown, Conn.; two sisters: Marjorie Nickas of Bloomington and Phyllis Drummond of Florida; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: George and Jimmy Williams. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford, with the Rev. Bernie Cox and Sister Joan Luerman officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Day & Carter Mortuary, Bedford, with scriptural prayers at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Helen L. Jones

PEKIN -- Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Weathers Funeral Home, Salem, for Helen L. Jones, 69, Pekin, who died at 5:58 p.m. Sunday at Robert E. Lee Retirement Home in New Albany. Brother John Denny will officiate. Born in Dwight, Ill., she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Mudd) Anderson. She was a retired medical technician, a Methodist and a Korean War Navy veteran. Surviving are one son, Douglas Jones of Fairfax, Va.; one daughter, Debra Gullett of Pekin; three brothers: Jerry, Jack and Jean Anderson, all of Dwight, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

Jewell O. Peters
Dec. 29, 1911-Jan. 25, 1999
Jewell O. Peters, 87, 2314 29th St., died at 7:40 p.m. Monday at Bedford Nursing Center. Born in Sparksville, she was the daughter of Mallie and Goldie (Tryon) Hunsucker. She married Morris A. Peters on Dec. 5, 1943, and he died June 26, 1984. She was owner and bookkeeper of Peters Accounting Service and attended Faith Mission Church, Bedford. Surviving are four sons: Don and Max Peters, both of Springville; Jess Gregory Peters of Indianapolis and Joseph Peters of Bedford; one sister, Oweettah Bevers of Zephyrhills, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Merle and Doyle Hunsucker. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Day & Carter Mortuary, Bedford, with the Rev. Leonard Sankey officiating. Burial will follow in Stampers Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Pallbearers will be Shawn Peters, Eric Keith, Thomas Porter, Brad Goss, Andy Selbee, Tim Breedlove and Phil Sanders.

Ruth E. Jackson

OOLITIC -- Ruth E. "Pat" Jackson, 62, Oolitic, died Sunday at her residence after a two-year illness. Born in Carterville, Ill., she was the daughter of Cleve and Verna (Barger) Phemister. She married Herbert Jackson in 1984, and he died in 1997. She was a homemaker and member of Eagles Lodge No. 654, Bedford. Surviving are one son, Ron Johnson of Bedford; four sisters: Myrthine Heckman and Marla Devaney, both of South Carolina, Helen Woodward of Bedford and Jacquline Eaves of Texas; one brother, Larry Phemister of Oolitic; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers. Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Day & Carter Mortuary, Bedford. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until service time Thursday at the mortuary.

Carl E. Chaney

SPRINGVILLE -- Carl E. "Skip" Chaney, 54, R.2, Springville, died at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday at his residence. Born in Bedford, he was the son of Carl and Pauline (Holbert) Chaney. He married Susan Hawkins and she survives. He was a tool and die maker at General Motors Powertrain, Bedford, and a member of Central Church of Christ and United Auto Workers Local No. 440. Surviving with his wife of Springville are his mother, Pauline West of Bedford; one son, Joe Chaney of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters: Rhonna Roberts of Bedford and Dianna Witte of Indianapolis; one sister, Vicky Thompson of Bedford; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Day & Carter Mortuary, Bedford, with Brother Gary Spear officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the mortuary.

ORLEANS -- Destin Wayne Moore, infant son of Gary and Lydia (Clipp) Moore, Orleans, was stillborn Monday at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Surviving in addition to the parents are one sister, Ivy Elizabeth Moore at home; his maternal grandparents: Donald "Bill" and Harriett Clipp; paternal grandparents, Gerald and Anna Jane Moore; maternal great-grandparents: William R. and Norma Jean Cundiff; and two aunts, all of Orleans. He was preceded in death by great-grandparents: John Harry and Edith Lydia (Hixon) Clipp, William and Elizabeth Roach; great-grandmother, Fannie Moore and great-great-grandmother, Marie Strange Williams. Private graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery, Orleans, with the Rev. Lewis Williams officiating. Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home, Orleans, is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation or services at the funeral home.

Ernest M. Workman
July 16, 1907-Jan. 26, 1999
BLOOMFIELD --ÊErnest M. Workman, 91, Bloomfield, died Tuesday at Greene County Rehabilitation Center. Born in Clay County, he was the son of James Calvin and Minty (Hudson) Workman. He married Elizabeth Foddrill, and she survives. He was a retired construction worker and had also served as a Center Township Trustee. Surviving with his wife, are eight sons: Dewey Workman of New Whiteland, Ivan Workman of Worthington, Robert Workman of Bloomfield, Vernon and Paul Workman, both of Redding, Calif., Jerry and Kenneth Workman, both of Springville and Glen Workman of Bloomington; one brother, William Workman of Bloomfield;Ê30 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Bernard Workman; five brothers and one sister. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Jenkins Funeral Home, Bloomfield, with the Rev. Lloyd Swango officiating. Burial will follow in Carmichael Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today and 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Naomi E. Turner

MILAN -- Services were held Jan. 9 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, for Naomi E. Turner, 81, of Milan who died Jan. 5 at the home of a daughter in Greendale. The Rev. Harris Long officiated. Burial was in New Craven Cemetery, Milan. Born in Bedford, she was the daughter of Isaac Joseph and Mary Myrtle (Browning) Hawkins. She married Eugene W. Turner on Sept. 4, 1937, and he survives. She was a homemaker and member of Milan Baptist Church and Order of Eastern Star Electa Chapter No. 135. Surviving with her husband of Dillsboro are three daughters: Sharon Sue Turner and Barbara Joanna Thomas, both of Greendale, and Darlene Elizabeth Bohall of Seymour; one sister, Thelma McDonald of Bedford; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and eight brothers. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Margaret Mary Hospital.
