Gina Elizabeth Slabaugh
PLYMOUTH — Gina Elizabeth Slabaugh, 29, died in the morning of Sunday, July 28, 2002 on U.S. 31, south of Rochester, in a car accident.
Gina was born Sept. 22, 1972 in Sarasota, Fla., to Arlen and Neva Hochstetler Slabaugh.
A graduate of Memorial High School in Elkhart, she was a phlebotomist at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
She is survived by a daughter, Lela Crawford of Mishawaka, and her parents, Arlen and Neva Slabaugh of Plymouth.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister.
Visitation was Wednesday, July 31, 2002 from 5-8 p.m. at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, Wakarusa.
Services will be Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Greg Serafino, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Union Center Cemetery, Nappanee.
Memorial gifts may be given to the donor’s choice.

ZIONSVILLE — Carol Lyn Ewing, 52, died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at her residence.
Carol was a speech pathologist with the Wayne Township School Corp. for 19 years.
Survivors include her son, Matthew Ewing; brothers, Dennis, Donald and Richard Mackey; and her mother, Ethel Ruth Mackey of Culver.
Cremation has taken place.

Ruth Vera Thibodeaux
WALKERTON — Ruth Vera Thibodeaux, 80, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 in Walkerton.
Ruth was born in Walkerton on March 31, 1922 to Jesse Elmer Schroder and Ruby Ellen Hamilton Schroder. They preceded her in death.
Ruth was a farmer at heart. She was also a homemaker and worked at Easy-Heat Wirecraft factory in Lakeville, where she retired in 1988 after 25 years of service. She was a graduate of Tyner High School.
She is survived by three daughters, Rita Elaine Ernsberger of Nashville, Linda Jean Bukowski and Lorraine Adria David, both of Walkerton; a son, David C. Thibodeaux of Mishawaka; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Batcher and Edna August; a daughter Betty Toadvine Berry; a grandson, Douglas Dale Toadvine; and two great-grandchildren, Jordan Toadvine Keating and Garrett Travis Ernsberger.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 from 6-8 p.m. and 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home.
Services will be Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in South Bend.
Lorene K. Driscoll
WABASH — Lorene K. Driscoll, 81, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at 1:19 p.m. at her residence.
Lorene was born Dec. 5, 1920 in Wabash to Clearence Miller and Faye Holcomb.
On Sept. 14, 1940 she married Mark Driscoll. He died in August of 1982.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wabash.
She is survived by six sons, James Driscoll of North Manchester, Steve Discoll of Wabash, Michael and Judy Discoll of Denver, Patrick and Joan Driscoll of Dade City, Fla., Dan and Pam Driscoll of Wabash, and Gary and Dawn Driscoll of Fort Wayne; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Harold and Cathy Miller of Lovell and Max and Patricia Miller of Hobart; and two sisters, Mary Stevens of Wabash and Betty Riggers of Huntington.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and her parents.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 from 2-8 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, Eddingfield Chapel, 231 Falls Ave., Wabash. A Rosary will be given at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Wabash. Rev. Sextus Don will officiate.
Burial will follow at Memorial Lawns, Wabash.
Junia Q. Werst Kratzman
FORT WAYNE — Junia Q. Werst Kratzman, 95, died Tuesday, June 30, 2002 at 12:34 a.m. in Parkview Hospital fo Fort Wayne.
Junia was born June 22, 1907 in South Bend to James Leroy Trowbridge and Catherine Perry.
She married Harold Werst on Oct. 30, 1923. He died March 11, 1971. She was a resident of Fort Wayne most of her life.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Fort Wayne. She was homemaker and loved to crochet. She also loved tomatoes and her dogs.
She is survived by her children, Betty and Joseph Maksi and Patty and Fred Gulker, all of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Ruth and Harold Worsham of Warsaw, Norma and Ray Hite of Plymouth, Lou Dell Bollinger of Indiana and Phyllis and Devoe Huff of Nappanee.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Clabaugh, and her brothers, Paul, Judah, Perry and Welcome.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 from 12-2 p.m. in Deaton Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon.
Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon.
Deaton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

PLYMOUTH — Eileen J. Thomas, 81, a longtime resident of 700 Lincoln St. Plymouth, died at the family home of her daughter Cheryl, Sunday at 2:15 p.m. She had been in the care of her family and the Marshall County Hospice.
Eileen was born in Plymouth, on April 5, 1921, the daughter of Russell D. and Ollie F. Webster Shearer. She was a 1939 graduate of West High School. On January 24, 1942, in Plymouth, Eileen married Lester L. Thomas who survives. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She and Lester were avid Plymouth sports fan. Eileen was a member of the Plymouth Church of the Brethren.
She is also survived by daughters; Cheryl S. (Michael) Mertes of Plymouth and Patricia A. (Mark) Schutts of Mishawaka; a son; Matthew S. (Stacy) Thomas of Terre Haute,; six granddaughters, three grandsons, three great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons; sisters; Gwen (David) Scheetz of Plymouth and Jeanette Doran of Parma Heights, Ohio; a brother; Dewey (Phyllis) Shearer of North Webster; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Eileen was also preceded in death by a son Michael Thomas in August 1969.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 in the Plymouth Church of the Brethren. A gathering of family and friends will be held immediately following services in the Church Fellowship Hall. Interment will take place in New Oakhill Cemetery,. Memorial gifts may be made to the Marshall County Hospice or the Church. Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth is in charge of arrangements.

NAPPANEE — Earl E. Trueblood, 46, of Nappanee died Monday at 2:40 a.m. in Elkhart General Hospital Emergency Room after from extended illness.
Earl was born on March 14, 1956 in Anderson to Rollin Trueblood and Margaret Shelly.
Earl had lived in Nappanee for 25 years. On Feb. 18, 1977 in Clunette, he married Nancy Herr. Earl was a boat and auto mechanic as well as a Marine Veteran who served in Vietnam.
Other survivors include sons, Adam (Mary) Trueblood of Claypool and Timothy Trueblood of Nappanee; daughter, Christina (and Brian) Rains, Plymouth; brothers, Ronnie Trueblood and Steve (and Sheryl) Trueblood, all of Columbia, S.C.; sisters, Diana (and Bud) Yates, Warsaw, and Barbara Trueblood, of Florida.; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Visitation is Wednesday at the Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home 5-8 p.m. Services are Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hepton Union Cemetery with special military graveside services by the Nappanee American Legion and VFW.

PLYMOUTH — Dorothy L. Exley, 85, of 318 Ewing St. the past 50 years died, following several years of failing health, at 3:50 a.m. Saturday in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
Dorothy was born in Saegertown, Pa., on July 18, 1917, the daughter of Roy R. and Bessie (Bossard) King. She graduated from Academy High School in Erie Pa. Dorothy was a mother and homemaker who had worked as a bookkeeper for the former Montgomery Ward Co. and Truman Motors and then retired from Bomarko Corp. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Plymouth where she sang in the choir. Her interests included a love of airplanes and the wonder of astronomy. She enjoyed playing the piano, listening to Country Western Music and, some would say, she had a fetish for hats.
Survivors include daughter, Beverly A. (Jon) Dalton of Tallahassee, Fla,; grandchildren Stacy A. Dalton (Brian) Caf-farelli of Chicago and Dr. Jonathan A. Dalton of Evanston, Ill.; a brother Ronald (Marjorie) King; several nieces, nephews; and special friends, Bryan and Elese Emond.
Also preceding her in death was a sister, Betty Mae Rains.
Visitation is 9 .m. until 11 a.m. services Tuesday in the Johnson – Danielson Funeral Home, Rev. Charles Krieg, of the Salem United Methodist Church, Bremen, officiating. Burial will take place in the New Oakhill Cemetery.

KOONTZ LAKE — Daniel J. Becich, Jr., 60, 226 Mulberry Drive, Glenwood, Ill., formerly of Koontz Lake, died on Saturday in Ingalls Hospital, Harvey, Ill., after an illness.
Daniel was born on March 5, 1942 in Chicago, the son of Daniel and Louis (Anderson) Becich, Sr. He was an employee of Boilermaker Local No. 374, Hammond. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sharon.
Daniel is survived by a daughter, Denise Dimos of Glenwood; a son, Dennis Becich of New Lenox, Ill.; a brother, Ronald Becich of Munster; and three grandchildren.
Visitation is 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at Rannells Funeral Home. Cremation will take place.

DONALDSON — Sister Laverne Berg, P.H.J.C., 88, died at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday, in the Catherine Kasper Home, where she had lived since her retirement in February 1995.
Sister Berg was born in Fort Wayne on Jan. 30, 1914, the daughter of Anthony and Lo-retta (Wyss) Berg.
She entered the convent on June 25, 1931 and professed her first vows on June 25, 1934.
An obstetrical nurse most of her career, Sister Laverne began her nursing vocation as a nurse's aide with the elderly in St. Mary’s Home in Carlyle, Ill. and later in St. Vincent’s Home in Quincy, Ill. Six years later, she became a student nurse at Saint Mary’s Hospital in East St. Louis, Ill., and, after obtaining her RN, continued working there as a staff nurse. From 1946 through 1972, she was an obstetrical nurse and OB supervisor at three different hospitals. From 1946 to 1948, she served in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Ashland, Wis.: from 1948 to 1962, she was at Saint Mary’s Hospital in East St. Louis and from 1963 to 1972 she worked in St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago. From 1972 to 1974, Sister Laverne was head nurse at the Catherine Kasper Home. In 1974, Sister Laverne went to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Fort Wayne., where she was a staff nurse for 11 years, a patient registrar and receptionist for two more years and a volunteer for eight additional years until her retirement in 1995.
Sister Laverne is survived by five sisters: Marcella Becker of Hoagland; Muriel Rossworm and Jane Ternet, both of New Haven; Lucille Prouty of Roa-noke; and Doris Brager of Fort Wayne; a brother, Maurice Berg of Hoagland; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Tuesday in the Catherine Kasper Home, from 4:30-9 p.m. The Mass of Chris-tian Burial is Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Kasper Home, Father Edward Konerman, S.J. and Father William Kummer, St. Michael Catholic Church, Plymouth, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Donaldson, Indiana.

BREMEN — Barbara “Bar-bie” E. Jones, 67, of 203 S. Liberty St., died in her home at 10:43 a.m. Saturday.
Barbie was born on April 10, 1935, the daughter of Edward and Ruby (Kaser) Bope. She was a lifetime Bremen resident, wintering in Haines City, Fla.
She retired from Hop Cap in 2000, after 25 years of service. She was a member of Bremen Missionary Church. She married John Jones. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a stepson, Rick Jones.
Barbie is survived by daughters Jane Skipper of Elkhart, Debra (Gary) Carlson of Bre-men and Julie (Randy) Gast-field or Orlando, Fla.; stepsons Jim, John, Joe and Rob Jones, all of Bremen; brothers James (Treva) Bope of Winter Haven, Fla., Charles E. Bope of Bremen, Russell (Bev) Bope of Lake of the Woods and Garold “Jerry” Bope of Bremen; grandchildren Andrew Skipper of Elkhart, Angie Carlson of South Bend, Kristen Carlson of Orlando, Fla., and Garrett Gastfield of Orlando; several step-grandchildren.

PLYMOUTH — Margaret McAvoy, 90, of 19312 West 4th B Road, Walkerton died Friday at 8:22 a.m. in Catherine Kasper Life Care Center, Donaldson.
Margaret was born on June 22, 1912 in West Township, the daughter of Elmer and Minnie (Bradley) Couts.
She married Neal McAvoy on April 17, 1931. He died in 1976. Margaret worked at the Kingsbury ordnance Plant during the war.
She is survived by her son, Donald McAvoy of Walkerton; sisters Mildred (Lee) Reid of Culver; Iris (Eugene) Keck of South Bend; several nephews and nieces.
She was also preceded in death by brothers Alfred, Wil-liam, Daniel, Floyd and Everett Couts and sisters Hazel Ogle and Eva Harmes
Visitation is Tuesday, 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. services at the Van Gilder Funeral Home. Burial will be at the New Oak Hill Cemetery

BREMEN — Rozella M. Thornton, 90, of Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa, died at 3:32 p.m. Friday in Elkhart General Hospital.
Rozella was born on Sept. 25, 1912, the daughter of Ivo and Amelia (Hawkins) Foeck-ler.
She was a lifetime area resident, having lived in Lakeville, Bremen and Wakarusa. She was a former member of Salem United Methodist Church. She was retired from the Associate Investment Co., South Bend. She married Jesse Thornton. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three sisters.
Rozella is survived by a daughter, Glenda (Lyle) Case of Middlebury; grandsons Gary (Kim) Stanley of Elkhart and Larry (Kathy) Stanley of War-saw; great-grandsons Jason (Celeste) Stanley of Indianapo-lis and Joseph Stanley of War-saw; great-granddaughters Shan-non (Chad) Stover and Tracy Stanley, all of Nappanee.
