Josephine Gray, 96
Josephine Gray, 96, of Carthage, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
She was born Nov. 5, 1907, in Kentucky. She married Cecil Albert Gray on Dec. 11, 1933; he preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1982.
Mrs. Gray lived in Carthage most of her life. She was a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church of Carthage and United Methodist Women.
Survivors include one son, Sam Gray (and wife Mary Lou) of Carthage; one daughter, Millie Alice (Mrs. Donald) Cooper of Scottsburg; 12 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, four brothers, six sisters, and one grandchild.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fletcher United Methodist Church of Carthage, with Pastor Roger Campbell officiating. The Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Vivian Mae Davis
Vivian Mae Davis, 86, of St. Paul, died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital, in Greensburg.
Born May 10, 1918, in Flat Rock, she was the daughter of Clem and Lucy (Pike) Higgins. She married Francis M. Davis on Nov.17, 1938, and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1989.
Survivors include five daughters, Donna Sue (husband, Tom) Ellerman, Sandra (husband, Les) Holzhausen, Barbara (husband, Roger) McCracken and Rita (husband, Tony) George, all of St. Paul, and Karen (husband, Garry) Streeval of Noblesville ; and one brother, William "Bill" Higgins of Shelbyville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Willetta Courtney, Virginia Isgrigg and Elsie Barlow; and one brother, Leonard Higgins.
Mrs. Davis grew up and spent most of her life in Shelby County.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Davis was member of Apostolic Tabernacle Church in Shelbyville for 43 years.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Robert Cavaness, Garry Streeval and Jeff Sangl officiating.
Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery, in St. Paul.
John E. Medsker
John E. Medsker, 63, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at his home.
Born April 15, 1941, in Whiteland, he was the son of Maurice O. and Wilma L. (Fitzpatrick) Medsker.
Survivors include his mother, of Shelby County; two sons, John A. 'Andy' (wife, Kim) Medsker and Tony Medsker, both of Shelbyville; one daughter, Amy (husband, Robert) Tyler of Marietta, Ga.; one brother, Donald Ray (wife, Debbie) Medsker of Shelbyville; two sisters, Anna Mae Lochridge and Carolyn Sue (husband, Russell) Snyder, both of Shelbyville; companion, Joyce L. O'Gara of Shelby County; and five grandchildren, Drew Medsker, Carleen Medsker, Cameron Medsker, Darian Tyler and Briana Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Maurice O. Medsker Jr.
Mr. Medsker was a lifelong Shelbyville resident.
He was employed at ABF Freight Systems, in Indianapolis, for 30 years, retiring in 1992 as terminal manager. He later was owner and operator of Medsker Auto Detailing for seven years, retiring in 2000.
Mr. Medsker graduated in 1958 from Southwestern High School.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Eagles Lodge and Jaycees. He was a former Indiana High School Athletic Association official.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.

Lucy M. Pierson
Lucy M. Pierson, 84, of Morristown, died Monday, June 28, 2004, at Morristown Manor, in Morristown.
Born July 8, 1919, in Needham, she was the daughter of James H. and Minnie (Morgan) Billingsley. She married Clyde D. Pierson on March 14, 1954, and he preceded her in death on March 11, 2000.
Survivors include two sons, James (wife, Marilyn) Lambert and David (wife, Chris) Pierson, both of Sebastian, Fla.; one daughter, Carol (husband, Tom) McAdams of Morristown; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Pierson was a lifelong Shelby County resident.
She was a homemaker and co-owner and operator of Pierson Marine and Appliance Store, in Shelby County, for many years.
Mrs. Pierson attended Fairland High School.
She was a member of First Christian Church and Concord Cemetery Board of Directors.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Concord Cemetery, in Shelby County, with the Rev. Bill Horner officiating.

Harold E. Junken
Harold Eugene Junken, 83, of Indianapolis, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at his home.
Born Sept. 1, 1920, in Rushville, he was the son of Jesse and Pearlie (McNamara) Junken. He married Lucy Mae Taylor on Feb. 17, 1944, and she survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Anita Lynn (husband, Michael) Stokes, Barbara Kay (husband, Father Keith) Coyner and Janet Richardson, all of Indianapolis; one sister, Evelyn Schoffner of Shelbyville; four grandchildren, Kevin Alan Coyner, Sarah Elizabeth Coyner, Stephanie Christina Richardson and Jeffrey Charles Richardson; and one great-granddaughter, Monica Kay Allman.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Kenneth Junken and Carl Junken; and one sister, Grace Ewick.
Mr. Junken lived in Shelbyville for 70 years.
He was a firefighter with Shelbyville Fire Department for 23 years, retiring in 1978, as captain.
Mr. Junken graduated in 1939 from Shelbyville High School
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving as staff sergeant.
Mr. Junken was a member of American Legion, St. Joseph Social Club and Eagles Lodge. He attended First United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Robert Campbell and Father Keith Coyner officiating.

Richard Remmler
Richard 'Dick' Remmler, 72, of St. Paul, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Columbus Regional Hospital, in Columbus, after a 16-year battle with progressive supranuclear palsy.
Born March 10, 1932, in Decatur County, he was the son of Louis and Mabel (Coy) Remmler. He married Ruth Evelyn Thornburg on Feb. 28, 1951, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Garry Remmler and Larry Remmler, both of Indianapolis; three brothers, William Remmler and Wayne Remmler, both of Connersville, and Gerald Eugene Remmler of Butlerville; and two sisters, Maxine Barclay of Greensburg and Virginia (husband, Robert) Robbins of Dothan, Ala.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Remmler.
Mr. Remmler was a lifelong resident of Decatur County.
He was owner of Remmler and Sons Distributors, in St. Paul, retiring in 1989. He previously was the first owner of Dairy Point Restaurant, in Greensburg, and was employed at Bohn Aluminum for 13 years.
Mr. Remmler graduated in 1951 from St. Paul High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Remmler was a member of First Baptist Church, in Greensburg, where he was a member of Loyal Builders Sunday school class.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Glenn E. George Funeral Home, 106 E. Franklin St. in St. Paul.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lee Riggs officiating.

Robert L. Coons, 70, of Indianapolis, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at Wishard Hospital, in Indianapolis.
Born Feb. 4, 1934, in Indianapolis, he was the son of William F. and Eva Lena (Graham) Coons Sr.
Survivors include one daughter, Sallie (husband, Jim) Lane of Shelbyville; two brothers, Stanley Coons and Wayne Coons, both of Indianapolis; and four grandsons, Ricky Coons, Corey Wright, Robert Edwards and Jason Edwards.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Coons; and two brothers, William Coons and Tommy Coons.
Mr. Coons was a lifelong Indianapolis resident.
He was employed at Aluminum Finishing of Indianapolis, for 20 years, retiring in 1974.
Mr. Coons was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Robert E. Suits, 70, of Shelbyville, died Thursday, July 1, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove.
Born Sept. 16, 1933, in Shelbyville, he was the son of E.O. McRoberts and Ruth Suits McRoberts. He married Becky Ann Platt on Sept. 12, 1952, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Randy (wife, Roxie), and Robby Suits, both of Shelbyville; and two daughters, Kathy Suits of Shelbyville and Vicky (husband, Phil) Davidson of Fairland.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
Mr. Suits was a lifelong Shelbyville resident. He attended Moral Township High School.
He was a biochemist for 28 years for Eli Lilly Co., in Indianapolis, retiring in 1993. He also was employed as a security guard for 20 years with Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Mr. Suits was a Boy Scout leader for 20 years in Shelbyville.

James Lewis Cregar Jr., 76, of Rushville, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004.
Born March 29, 1927, in Richmond, he was the son of James Lewis and Lula Bell (Jones) Cregar Sr.
Mr. Cregar was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy. He had been a furniture manufacturing supervisor.
Survivors include two sons, James Cregar (and wife Barb) and Michael Cregar (and wife Iris); one daughter, Sue Cregar; and eight grandchildren.
Margaret Henderson Ephlin, 97
Margaret Henderson Ephlin, 97, of Denton, Texas, and formerly of Indianapolis, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Denton Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 12, 1906, in Martinsville, she was the daughter of Courtland and Martha (Shireman) Henderson. She married Max L. Ephlin on June 21, 1927; he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Ephlin was a retired head bookkeeper at National Bank of Greenwood, where she worked for 25 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Kay (Mrs. Bob) Reed of Denton, Texas; one brother, Courtland M. Henderson of Dayton, Ohio; four grandchildren, including Cathy Schneider and Jim Ephlin Jr., both of Rushville; and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home in Greenwood. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be two hours prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Albert L. Hill, 87
Albert L. Hill, 87, of Falmouth, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Flatrock River Lodge in Rushville.
Born May 25, 1916, in Lewisville, he was the son of Sherman and Ruth (Miles) Hill, both deceased. He married Evelyn M. McBride on March 30, 1946, in Hyattsville, Md.; she survives.
Mr. Hill was a 1935 graduate of Raleigh High School, where he was on the basketball team all four years. He was a veteran of World War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 as a staff sergeant in Co. B, 351st Engineering Regiment serving in England, France, and Germany at the Battle of the Bulge. He won the Expert Rifle Medal Award. He lived in Washington Township all his life on the family farm which he worked with his wife and sons. He was a 75-year member of Raleigh Christian Church, an over-50-year member of Orange Lodge #234 F&AM, Rushville Elks, Farm Bureau, American Legion #150 in Rushville, AMVETS, Eagles, 40 et 8 in Connersville, and was a past trustee of Raleigh Zion Cemetery.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Stephen D. Hill (and wife Elaine) and Arnold L. Hill (and wife Mary), both of Falmouth; two sisters, Isabelle Dill of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Marjorie (Mrs. George) Brownell of Rushville; three grandchildren, Jason Hill (and wife Angie) of Tampa, Fla., Jennifer (Mrs. Justin) Paddack of Lewisville, and Brian Hill (and wife Lori) of Falmouth; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel, with the Rev. Tony Augsburger officiating. Burial, which will include gravesite military rites by American Legion #150 and VFW #1541 of Rushville, will follow in Raleigh Zion Cemetery. James M. Ferguson, 80, of Knightstown, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.
Born May 20, 1923, in Rush County, he was the son of Samuel and Lillie (Vogel) Ferguson, both deceased. He married Doris Adams on July 10, 1943; she survives.
Mr. Ferguson lived south of Mays until 1968, when he moved to Florida. He moved back to Indiana and located in the Knightstown area in 1981. He worked for GTE for 18 years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of Center Christian Church, where he had been a deacon. He was a past member of the Raleigh F&AM. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater.
Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, Bill of Hahira, Ga., John of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Tom Ferguson of Rush County; one daughter, Diane (Mrs. Tom) John of Shelby County; two brothers, Howard of Dayton, Ky. and Charles Ferguson of Fort Myers, Fla.; one sister, Emalene Stearns of Connersville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville, with Bill Worrell officiating. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery in Rush County. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
