Helena Mildred James, 94, of Rushville, died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Rush Memorial Hospital.
Born June 23, 1909, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of John and Esther (McDonald) James, both deceased.
Mrs. James was a homemaker. She had lived in Rush County since 1918 and was a 1929 graduate of Rushville High School. She attended Hannegan Christian Church in Rush County.
Survivors include one sister, Anna Louise Shorter of Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville, with Warren Engel officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery in Arlington. Visitation will be after noon Wednesday at the mortuary.
Sarah F. Kennedy, 82
Sarah F. Kennedy, 82, of Arlington, died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Miller's Merry Manor in Rushville.
Born May 20, 1921, in Somerset, Ky., she was the daughter of Otis and Orpha (Warren) Cline. She married Roy O. Kennedy in 1954; he preceded her in death in 1988.
Mrs. Kennedy retired from the Original Tractor Cab Company after 35 years of service.
Survivors include one son, Ronnie Cline (and wife Joan) of Greenfield; one daughter, Arlene Kennedy of Rushville; one step daughter, Linda (Mrs. David) Tuttle of Albion; one sister, Faye (Mrs. Boyd) Wesley of Somerset, Ky.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville, with Bob Brock officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery in Arlington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Thelma L. McRoberts, 83
Thelma L. McRoberts, 83, of Knightstown, died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.
Born Feb. 22, 1921, in Muses Mills, Ky., she was the daughter of Fred and Margaret (Fisher) Pitts. She married Opal McRoberts on Feb. 22, 1939; he preceded her in death.
Mrs. McRoberts was a homemaker. She lived in Knightstown most of her life, and attended Knightstown Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol (Mrs. Richard) Moore of Carthage; one brother, Ivan Pitts of Pendleton; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown, with the Rev. Roger Abraham officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Donald Phillips, 78
Donald Phillips, 78, of Milroy, died Friday, March 12, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Sept. 1, 1925, in Greensburg, he was the son of Theodore and Nellie (Harbert) Phillips, both deceased. He married Dorothy Adkins on June 25, 1954; she survives.
Mr. Phillips retired in 1988 from Philco-Ford after 40 years of service. He was a member of the big Flatrock Christian Church and had been a Boy Scout leader in Milroy. He was a member of the Milroy Masonic Lodge. He was a U.S. Army veteran and P.O.W. during World War II. He also served in the Korean War.
Survivors in addition to his wife include one sister, Phyllis Moody of Connersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville. Burial, which will include a graveside military service given by the Rush County Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in East Hill Cemetery in Arlington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.

Cecil M. Stamm, 84
Cecil M. Stamm, 84, of Glenwood, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Flatrock River Lodge in Rushville.
Born Oct. 8, 1919, in Glenwood, he was the son of Charles and Beulah (Chew) Stamm, both deceased. He married Wilmetta Franklin on July 26, 1940; she survives.
Mr. Stamm lived in Rush County his entire life. He was a 1937 graduate of Orange High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He worked as a plasterer for Stamm Brothers for many years. He also worked for 20 years at Philco-Ford in Connersville, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Glenwood Church of Christ and the Rushville American Legion and for more than 50 years belonged to Orange Lodge #234 F&AM. He also served as sexton of Glenwood Cemetery for more than 30 years.
Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, Larry Stamm (and wife Susan) of Mishawaka, Tom Stamm (and wife Patricia) of Shelbyville, and Jeff Stamm (and wife Pam) of Kokomo; one daughter, Cathy (Mrs. Tom) Patterson of Rushville; one brother, Joe Stamm of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Patricia (Mrs. Bill) Pearsey of Rushville; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and eight brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville, with Terry Kemp officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

Raymond Turner, 73
Raymond Turner, 73, of Rushville, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at his residence.
Born Dec. 4, 1930, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Raymond V. and Opal Matilda (Crippen) Turner, both deceased. He married JoAnn Haley on Oct. 27, 1952; she preceded him in death on March 18, 1977. He married Genebe Zimmerman on June 20, 1980; she survives.
Mr. Turner spent his early life in the Henderson area, lived several years in the Moscow area, and moved to Rushville in 1982. He was a 1949 graduate of Arlington High School and completed an electrical correspondence course through RCA. He retired in 1992 after 27 years with Kroger in the bakery department in Indianapolis. He was also an electrician. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors in addition to his wife include four sons, Vernon Turner of Evansville, Larry Turner of Madison, Tim Turner of Knightstown, and Charles Turner of Shelbyville; four daughters, Cindy (Mrs. Bennie) Newton of Moscow, Melinda Beaver of Connersville, Brenda (Mrs. Mark) Sebastian of Gowdy, and Rebecca Turner of Shelbyville; three stepsons, Roger Smith of Delaware, Ohio, Doyle Hardwick of Dade City, Fla., and Bobby Eastman of Brownsburg; three stepdaughters, Joann (Mrs. Jimmy) Guinn of Monticello and Fay (Mrs. Ronny) Stinson and Linda Johnson, both of Indianapolis; three brothers, Tom Turner of Rushville, Ira Turner of Osgood, and Lynn Turner of Arlington; two sisters, Mary Springman of Rushville and Ruth Ann Shipley of Jacksonville, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, one grandson, and one stepdaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville, with Pastor Phil Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Moscow Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Born Sept. 19, 1919, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Aloysius and Theresia (Tebbe) Munchel. She married William J. Kramer in 1946; he preceded her in death in 1973.
Mrs. Kramer was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Sodality, and the Richland Wide Awake Home Ec Club.
Survivors include four sons, Albert J. Kramer (and wife Diane), Delbert A. Kramer (and wife Cheryl), Ralph G. Kramer, and Kenneth W. Kramer (and wife Lucy); one brother, William Munchel of Oldenburg; one sister, Mrs. Bernie Vonderheide of Greensburg; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rushville, with the Rev. Leon Reuter officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Rushville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rosary recited at 8 p.m., at the Todd Funeral Home in Rushville.

Ethel Amelia Hungerford, 99, of Rushville, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
Born March 16, 1904, in Rush County, she was the daughter of Washington and Harriet (Scull) Gosnell, both deceased. She married Iden Hungerford on June 14, 1927; he preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 1993.
Mrs. Hungerford was a member of Milroy Methodist Church, where she served as chair of the mission project and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a member of the DAR. She was the first Senior Citizen Queen of Rush County in 1976. She won the Janice Award in 1976. She was a charter member of the hospital auxiliary and of the Merry Martha Home Ec Club of Orange Township. She served as chair of the hospital's toy project for 30 years. She was also a member of the Milroy Research Literary Club and the Tri Psi Sorority.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Martha (Wilson) Brooks of Gowdy; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Milroy United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Land officiating. Burial will follow in Moscow Cemetery in Rush County. Burns Funeral Home in Milroy is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Born March 26, 1931, in Gwynneville, he was the son of Buryl and Jessie (Handy) Van Scyol. He married Rita L. Ruby on Aug. 28, 1976; she survives.
Mr. Van Scyol was a 1949 graduate of Morristown High School. He spent most of his life in Shelby County. He was a farmer and worked for more than 20 years at Pioneer Seed in Rushville, retiring in 1986.
Survivors in addition to his wife include six daughters, Diane (Mrs. Jack) Essex, Sue (Mrs. John) Goodrich, Brenda (Mrs. Roger) Browning, Amy (Mrs. Shannon) Daniel, and Chris Justus, all of Shelbyville, and Carla Pierce of Seymour; four sons, Geary and Kris, both of Shelbyville, Jon of San Jose, Calif., and Steve of New Palestine; 25 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Harmon had lived in Rush County since 1937. She was a 1940 graduate of Raleigh High School. She was a member of Fairview Christian Church.
Survivors in addition to her husband include four sons, David Harmon and Larry Harmon, both of Glenwood, Leonard Harmon of Richmond, and Terry Harmon of Middletown, Ohio; one daughter, Linda Harmon of Richmond; three brothers, Harold Spurgin of Connersville, Virgil Spurgin of Greensburg, and Floyd Spurgin of Straughn; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Born Feb. 3, 1949, in Scottsburg, he was the son of Noble Edward and Myrle (Phillips) Stout, both deceased. He married Carolyn S. Hearne on Oct. 11, 1968; she survives.
Mr. Stout lived most of his life in Jefferson County. He was a 1967 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. He was a school bus driver for 12 years. He worked in the health care industry as an orderly at the Scott County Memorial Hospital for six years and at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Ky., for 13 years.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Lacey Genae Stout and Beth Morris, both of Deputy.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother.

Born Dec. 30, 1918, in Rushville, she was the daughter of Bert and Mary (Mullen) Snoddy. She married James F. Borem in 1943; he preceded her in death in 1984.
Mrs. Borem was an inspector for Philco-Ford in Connersville and also worked at Rushville Furniture Co.
Survivors include one son, James Borem (and wife Cindy) of Danville; one brother, William Snoddy (and wife Rita) of Brownsburg; three sisters, Grace Caldwell of Rushville and Ruth Mann and Lorene Shepler, both of Indianapolis; and three grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Todd Funeral Home in Rushville, with Rev. John Roof officiating. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Born June 27, 1915, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Stephen and Arminnie (Muir) Mosier, both deceased. She married Walter F. Hahn on Nov. 3, 1931; he preceded her in death on April 17, 1988.
Mrs. Hahn was a 1933 graduate of Laurel High School. She spent her early life in Laurel but spent much of her married life in Seminole County, Fla., where she was the main cook for several years at Sanford Middle School, retiring in 1962. She was a member of Laurel Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Leslie O. Hahn of Rushville; one daughter, Virginia (Mrs. Earl) Hodges of Orange City, Fla.; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, three daughters, three brothers, and three sisters.
