JERRY RAY SANDERS, 53, Borden, died Tuesday, February 17, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was the retired owner of Weilbaker Auto Service Station in Palmyra, a member of Christian Church in Hardinsburg and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he was held as a POW in Germany. Survivors include his wife, Lillian Pennington Weilbaker; four daughters, Bonnie King of New Albany, Patsy Melton and Karen Packwood, both of Charlestown, and Denise Couch of Clarksville; a sister, Frances Hammon of Charlestown; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, February 20, at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra with burial in Kays Chapel in Fredericksburg.

MARTHA GERTRUDE (BANET) GESENHUES, 81, New Albany, died Sunday, February 15. He was a farmer and had been named Farmer of the Year in 1986. He was a member of St. Joseph Hill Catholic Church in Sellersburg. Survivors include his wife, Viola (Sprigler) Toby; two daughters, Patricia T. Stumler of Floyds Knobs and Angela T. Ratledge of Dearborn, Mi.; a brother, Joseph P. Toby of Sellersburg; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass was held on Friday, February 20, at St. Joseph Hill Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Generations Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

SHIRLEY ANN GIVANS, 71, Charlestown, died Wednesday, February 18, at Green Valley Care Center in New Albany. She was a member of Culbertson Baptist Church and Mothers and Others Sunday School class. She was a past matron of Milltown Order of the Eastern Star #412 and past matron of New Albany OES #340. She was a past guardian of Job’s Daughters Bethels #12 and #42, a member of Business and Professional Women’s Association and past president of The Dietary Managers Association. She had been president of the Residents Council of Green Valley Care Center and retired from Green Valley Care center as dietary supervisor. Survivors include her husband, J.P. Wenning; three daughters, Patricia Pfeifer of Indianapolis, Susie Goens of Indianapolis and Betty Thomas of New Albany; a stepdaughter, Linda Thomas of Ramsey; two stepsons, James Wenning of Depauw and John Wenning of Ramsey; three brothers, Charles Richeson of Martinsville, Harold Richeson of Indianapolis and Ralph Richeson of Franklin; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 21, at the Oak Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin. KRAIG E. MIZE, 19, Elizabeth, died Monday, February 16, at her home. She was a native of Starlite and a member of St. Joe Hill Catholic Church and the St. Joe Quilters Club. Survivors include two sons, Jim Meyer and Tommy Meyer, both of Sellersburg; two daughters, Betty Ann Butler of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and Alma Rose Marks of Redding. Ca.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, February 19, at St. Joe Hill Catholic Church in Sellersburg with burial in St. Joe Hill Catholic Cemetery. G.O. "SKIP" ROGERS, 59, Marysville, died Sunday, February 15, at Corozal Hospital in Corozal, Belize. She was a native of Leavenworth, a former employee of the old Bata Shoe Company in Salem, and retired from Tecumseh Products Salem Operations. Survivors include her companion, Dale Marshall of Salem; five daughters, Lillian Voyles and Leslie Fraley, both of Borden, Christine Carroll of Charlestown, Carol Jean Hodges of Lebanon, Tenn., and Penny Moss of Salem; two sons, Walter Moss and Bradley Moss Jr., both of Salem; a brother, Ollie Knowland of New Albany; a sister, Violet Michaels of Nashville; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A private service was held. The body was cremated. Dawalt Funeral Homes handled the arrangements.

FRANK ANTHONY CHZANOWSKI, 83, Charlestown, died Saturday, February 21, at Floyd Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Warsaw, Kentucky, and a former employee of The Old Pirate House Restaurant. Survivors include two sons, James Ray Pittman of Charlestown and Robert Lee Caswell; and two sisters, Mary Wade and Virginia Jenkins, both of Charlestown. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 24, at Grayson Funeral Home with burial in Charlestown Cemetery.

JEROME "BUTCH" DAY, 64, Sellersburg, died Monday, February 16, at his home. A native of Bloomington, he was employed by the town of Campbellsburg as Water and Waste Water Supervisor. He was a graduate of Ball State University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and a member of Church of God in Idaville. Survivors include his wife, the former Patricia Hines; a daughter, Jill Marie Guthrie of Butner, NC; a brother, Keith Guthrie of Campbellsburg; two sisters, Becky Gibbons of Pittsboro and Betty Artman of Bedford; his mother, Vivian Guthrie of Pittsboro; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Friday, February 20, at Weathers Funeral Home with burial in Cavetown Cemetery.

LARRY LONG, 51, Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, February 17, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. A native of Pekin, he was retired from PSI as a journeyman lineman and was a member of IBEW Union. Survivors include his wife, the former Verneda Packard; two sons, Eric Gene Hoke of Salem and Brent Barkely of Spencer; two daughters, Julia Dawn Madden of Salem and Lisa Harty of Indianapolis; a brother, Vincent Hoke of Salem; two sisters, Marla Sweeney of Otisco adn Carla Strom of Campbellsville, Kentucky; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, February 20, at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Orleans.

CONNIE S. HUNDLEY, 42, Hardinsburg, died Friday, February 20, at Meadowview Health Care Center. She was a native of Bowlingtown, Kentucky, and a retired employee of the Charlestown Powder Plant. She attended Westside Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Rollan Barger of Michigan; seven daughters, Marie Coldiron of West Chester, Ohio, Margie Brumley of Bethel, Ohio, Rebecca Watson of Amelia, Ohio, Gaynell Scott and Sharon Barger, both of Greenville, Tenn., Phyllis DeVries of North Ridgeville, Ohio, and Veda Strange of Salem; a brother, Bill Barger of Prestonburg, Kentucky; a sister, Violet Dixon of Cleves, Ohio; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Monday, February 23, at Weathers Funeral Home with burial in New Liberty Cemetery near Salem.

G. CARL GUCKENBERGER, 88, Cincinnati, Ohio, died on Tuesday, February 10, at Meadow View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Salem, where he had been residing. A retired farmer, he was died on Sunday, February 15, at Columbus Regional Hospital. A resident of Madison for many years, she was died on Saturday, February 14, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. She was a native of Columbus, Ohio, and was a retired employee of the old U.S. Shoe Corporation. Memberships included North Madison Christian Church, Ladies of the Moose and Order of Eastern Star 530 of Madison. Survivors include four sons, Richard Sudlow of Hanover, Robert Sudlow of Lexington, Ronald Sudlow of Laughlin, W.V., and Edward Sudlow of Arlington Heights, Il.; two daughters, Judy Bane of Scottsburg and Carol Stoeffler of Loudon, Tn.; 18 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted on Wednesday, February 18, at Vail-Holt Funeral Home in Madison. The Rev. Lionel Talbott officiated. Burial was in Bayless Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be arranged through the staff of the funeral home to benefit Scottsburg First Christian Church.

DALE L. McNEELY, 71, Hanover, died on Saturday, February 14, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was died at his home on Tuesday, February 10. He was born in Scottsburg and had formerly lived in Indianapolis and Lawrence, Ks. He held a bachelor of science degree from University of Kansas and earned an MSE in sanitary engineering at the University of Michigan. His Ph.D. in chemical engineering and microbiology was earned at Kansas State University, where he began his career. He also served on the staff of Iowa State University, where he patented a slatted hog house floor. He taught, did research and served in several capacities at Oregon State University, retiring there as Professor Emeritus from the Bioengineering Department. He also served as an environmental engineer for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Singapore and was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Malawi in 1998. He had served on short term assignments in a large number of countries and had planned to be a Visiting Scholar in Taiwan at the time of his death. He co-authored two books on livestock waste management and authored or co-wrote six other books as well as referred journal articles and over 100 symposia proceedings and extension publications. He also wrote three books of children’s sermons. Memberships included the First Presbyterian Church in Corvallis, the Water Pollution Control Federation, Sigma Xi, Gamma Sigma Delta, Alpha Epsilon and Tau Beta Pi. He was also a Fellow of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and shared the Associated Projects Outstanding 4-H Leader of the Year honors in 1999. He co-taught the 4-H Junior Toastmasters Public Speaking program for 21 years. Survivors include his widow, the former Betty Emery; a son, Frederick G. Miner of Los Angeles, Ca.; two daughters, Saralena M. Bailey of Channahon, Il., and Katherine A. Marstall of New Orleans, La.; a brother, Michael E. Miner of Worthington, Ohio; four grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at his church today (Saturday) at 1:30 p.m. Memorial gifts may be arranged through the staff of the DeMoss Durden Garden Chapel, 815 N.W. Buchanon, Corvallis, OR 97330. Gift requests include the American Society of Agricultural Engineers Foundation, the Ron and Betty Miner Presidential Scholarship, Oregon State University or the Corvallis First Presbyterian Church’s Capital Campaign.
