DONNA L. ELLENBRAND, 49, Greenville, died Sunday, October 3. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 6, at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Home. GEORGE M. GORDON, 76, New Albany, died Monday, October 4, at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany. He was a native of Minneapolis, Mn., a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, VFW Post #1693 and the Bible Study Fellowship. He was a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington and a volunteer at Floyd Memorial Hospital. Survivors include a son, John Gordon of Cincinnati, Ohio; three daughters, Julie Stratton and Molly Scheidt, both of Columbus, Mary Holderman of Georgetown and Jeanne Gordon of Columbus; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held in the chapel of Kraft Funeral Service and Mt. Hope Cemetery in Logansport. The body was cremated. JAMES ALTON BEASLEY, 86, Georgetown, died Tuesday, October 5, at VA Medical Center in Louisville. He was a native of Fayetteville, NC, and owned and operated a service station in Wade, NC. He was awarded five Bronze Stars for service in World War II. Survivors include four children, James A. Beasley Jr., Ruth A. Thomas, Charles D. Beasley and Scott A. Beasley; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville with burial in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville. Love Funeral Home handled the local arrangements. HENRY SWEETS FAUREST JR., 67, Jeffersonville, died Tuesday, October 5, at Clark Memorial Hospital. He was a retired attorney and bank consultant for Professional Bank Services in Louisville. He was the president of the Clark County Chapter of the American Red Cross, a member of the board of directors for the Arts Council of Southern Indiana, the Mary Anderson Center, the Jeffersonville Family Fun Fest, the Hughes Group Inc. and the Farmers State Bank in Lanesville, and a veteran of the Kentucky Air National Guard. Survivors include his wife, Cecile Blau; his children, Kristin Faurest of Budapest, Hungary, Brandon Blau of Sydney, Australia, and Brittany Blau of Louisville; his mother, Elizabeth Faurest of Louisville; two sisters, Susan Grubbs and Ann Faurest, both of Louisville; and two grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Friday, October 8, at Scott Funeral Home’s North Chapel in Jeffersonville. Expressions of sympathy should go to the Clark County Chapter of the American Red Cross. LEORA E. MELTON, 87, New Middletown, died Wednesday, October 6, at University of Louisville Hospital. She was a graduate of Indiana University Bloomington with a bachelor of science and master’s of science degrees in elementary education. She was a retired teacher of the South Harrison School Corporation, having taught first grade at New Middletown Elementary School, and a member of Salem United Church of Christ in New Middletown. Survivors include a son, William Melton of Hendersonville, Tn.; six daughters, Carole Olsen of Vienna, Va., Karen Troutman and Joyce Spaulding, both of Corydon, Denise Harmon of Depauw, Penny Fessel of New Middletown and Marilyn Wiggam of Dublin, Ohio; a stepson, Clarence Melton of Elizabeth; a brother, Arthur Eisenmenger of New Albany; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 9, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon with burial in Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery in New Middletown. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 11, at Generations Funeral Home. JAMES GREGORY, 37, Palmyra, died Wednesday, October 6, as the result of an auto accident. He was a cabinet worker at Kitchen Kompact in Jeffersonville. Survivors include his wife, Christy Gregory; two daughters, Olivia and Miranda Gregory; his parents, Ray and Wanda Gregory of Salem; six brothers, Randy Gregory of Hardinsburg and Ricky, David, Daniel, David and Sam Gregory, all of Salem; and two sisters, Lela Herbert of Fredericksburg and Lora Clark of Florida. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 12, at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra with burial in Horners Chapel Cemetery. JASON G. GUETHE, 26, Borden, died Friday, October 8, at his home. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Patty and Richard McMahon; his father, Richard Guethe; sister and brother-in-law, Colleen and Carl Whelan; and his grandmother, Catherine L. Guethe. McIntosh, a native of Hardinsburg and a housewife. She attended Englewood United Methodist Church in Englewood, Florida. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in New Albany where she sang in the Chancel Choir, and she was a past president of the United Methodist Women. Survivors include two sons, Bob Armstrong of Floyds Knobs and Dr. P. Douglas Armstrong of Bourbonnais, Illinois; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was a native of Celina, Texas, a housewife and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Cecil Johnson of English and Fred Johnson of Scottsville, Kentucky; a daughter, Zelda Hendrix of Scottsville, Kentucky; 21 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of New Albany High School and Wellesley College in Wellesley, Ma., and one of the former owners of the old August Barth Leather Company in New Albany. She was a member of the Floyd County Historical Society, Amaranth Literary Club and Tri Kappa Philanthropic Sorority and St. John United Presbyterian Church in New Albany. Survivors include a son, J. Terrence Cody of New Albany; two grandchildren; two nieces; two great-nieces; two great-nephews; two great-great-nephews; and one great-great-niece. She was the former Dorothy Byrne Hayden, a native of Owensboro, Kentucky, retired from Sears in Louisville and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany. Survivors include her husband, Clayton Kerstetter; a brother, John W. Hayden of Owensboro, Kentucky; sisters, Rita Secor and Barbara O’Bryan, both of Louisville; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Washington, Kentucky; a daughter, Carolyn Puckett of Louisville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. NAYOMA CRESS, 77, Salem, died Monday, October 4, at her home. She was a native of Oneida, Kentucky, and a member of First Baptist Church. Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 7, at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home. CATHERINE "CATHY" R. NICE, 64, Salem, died Saturday, October 10, at Washington County Memorial Hospital. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Kentucky Fried Chicken. She was a member of Kansas Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Junior Nice; three sons, Ceward and Jesse Nice, both of Salem, and Charles Nice of Clarksville; three daughters, Margie Coots of Fort Sheridan, Illinois, Jill Brewer of Vallonia and Jenine Wynn of Campbellsburg; two sisters, Arlene Thompson of Trail, Minnesota and Ruby Rathbun of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. PATRICK FRANCIS HANLEY, 55, Campbellsburg, died Thursday, October 7. Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 9, at Weathers Funeral Home. LOLA M. JENKINS, 67, Fredericksburg, died on Saturday, October 2, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville, Ky. A native of Garrett, Ky., she was an employee of the Rosebud Country Store in Salem and a member of the Hardinsburg Christian Church and Hardinsburg Senior Citizens. Survivors include three sons, Dale Jenkins of Fredericksburg, Curtis Jenkins of Columbus and Charles A. Jenkins Jr. of Scottsburg; five daughters, Gale Jenkins and Carolyn Webb, both of Louisville, Ky., Rebecca Roy of New Albany, Linda Hehemann of Jeffersonville and Anna Lee Kaufer of Sellersburg; a brother, Norman Cox of Leavenworth; a sister, Bertha DeBell of Cox’s Creek, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. MITCHELL, 82, of Sheldon, Il., died on Thursday, September 30, at the Sheldon Meadows Nursing Center. Formerly of Crothersville, he had served as a minister in Nazarene churches for 50 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was originally from Cadiz, Ky. Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Woolf; a son, Steve Mitchell of Kankakee, Il.; two daughters, Judi Crim of Seattle, Wa., and Pam Munson of Donovan, Il.; two brothers, Garland Mitchell of Largo, Fl., and John Mitchell, also of Florida; three sisters, Ruth Foster of Seymour, Martha Blair of Crothersville and Jean Amick of Scottsburg; and seven grandchildren. Visitation was observed on Saturday, October 2, at the Baier Funeral Home on Watseka, Il. The funeral was conducted on Sunday, October 3, at the Crothersville Church of the Nazarene. Burial was in Crothersville Cemetery following military graveside services conducted by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Lodge 1083 of Crothersville. MARGARET MARION GIRARDOT, 78, Scottsburg, died on Saturday, October 2, at Scott Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Michigan. Survivors include four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by the staff of the Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin. WILLIAM R. "BILL" FIKE, 62, Corydon, died on Thursday, September 30, at Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg. Owner/operator of Fike’s Fiesta Rides, he was born in Fort Wayne. Memberships included the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Pisgah Masonic Lodge in Corydon, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine of Indianapolis. He was also a member of the International Independent Showmen’s Association, the Tampa Showmen’s Club, the National Independent Concessionaires Association, Showmen’s League of America and Greater Ohio Showmen’s Association. He had been honored as a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors include his wife, the former Betty Schneider; a son, Brian Fike of Corydon; two daughters, Kelley Baird of Lanesville and Kim Baird of Corydon; a sister, Karen Douglass of Henryville; and six grandchildren. The funeral was conducted on Wednesday, October 6, at the Gehlbach and Royse Funeral Home in Corydon. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon. WILLIAM SMITH, 82, Lexington, died on Friday, October 1, at Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg. A retired employee of Morgan Foods Inc. in Austin, he was a native of Manchester, Ky. He was also a former coal miner and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended the Pentecostal Church. Survivors include his wife, the former Evalee Gray; two sons, Larry M. Smith and Myrle T. Smith, both of Lexington; three daughters, Judy Dixon-Wolfe, Linda Gates-Probst and Erma J. Smith, all of Lexington; two brothers, Ben Smith and Beve Smith, both of Kentucky; a sister, Callie Marcum of Kentucky; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. MILLER, 92, Lexington, died on Friday, October 1. Born in Shelby County, she was a retired Scott District 2 school teacher. Memberships included Lexington Presbyterian Church, the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, Southern Indiana Poetry Club, Greenbriar Extension Homemakers Club, Nifty Needles Quilting Club in Clark County, the Scott County Jolly Quilters Club and the Scott County Historical Society. Survivors include a brother, Marvin Bright of Madison; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The funeral was conducted on Monday, October 4, at the Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg. Phil LaMaster and the Rev. Deanna Jobst officiated. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.
