PEARL EDLIN HELBIG, 96, Palmyra, formerly of New Albany, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, at her home. She was a native of Elizabethtown, Ky., a former secretary for the old Home Transit Co. in New Albany and a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church. Survivors include three nephews and a niece, Alta Turner, who cared for her. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 16, at her church. The body was cremated. KATHLEEN WILLIAMS, 83, Scottsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Washington County Memorial Hospital in Salem. She was founder and former president of the old Williams' Convalescent Center in Salem, Mitchell Manor and Williams Manor of Scottsburg and a member of Women of the Moose Lodge 1947 and Faith Christian Center in Salem. Survivors include a son, Donald R. Williams; a daughter, Barbara Fleenor; four sisters, Geneva Moody, Gladys Horn, Anita Haven and Colleen Baldwin; three brothers, Roger, Junior and Everett Spaulding; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was a native of Putnam County, Tenn., a retired employee of both the old Sure Kill Termite Control and the Yellow Cab Co. and a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, the former Catherine Rodgers; three sons, Donald, Randell and Terry Garrison; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. DUSTIN, 89, Salem, formerly of West Baden, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, at a private care residence. She was a retired teacher for Salem High School, attended First Christian Church of Salem, was a graduate of Franklin College, a member of the National and Indiana Retired Teachers Associations and the Franklin Chapter of the Delta Zeta Sorority. Survivors include a son, William C. Dustin of Salem; a brother, Robert E. Shanks of Orange, Calif.; and a granddaughter. Services will be at a later date. The body was cremated. WILLIAM ANDREW ELLIS, SR., 77, Sellersburg, formerly of Louisville, Ky., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Vencor Hospital in Louisville, Ky. He was a veteran of the Kentucky Air National Guard, serving both in World War II and the Korean Convlict, he served 38 years in the service, retired from the old South Central Bell Phone Co. as a lineman for 31 years, was a member of the Clifton Baptist Church and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Survivors include his daughter Marie Dishman and a son Joseph R. Ellis; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. PAUL HALL, 71, Scottsburg, died on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky. He was born in Booneville, Ky., and had lived in Washington and Scott counties for many years. A veteran of the Korean War, he was a retired employee of the old American Can Company in Austin and was a member and elder of the First Baptist Church of Austin. Survivors include a son, Timmy Hall of Salem; a daughter, Dottie Sherer of Columbus; three stepsons, John Spencer of Deputy, Bruce Cornelius of Little York and Thomas Cornelius of Ohio; a brother, Sam Hal of Austin; three sisters, Nellie Spencer of Austin, Lillie Adkins of Louisville and Lena Spence of Scottsburg; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Army National Guard and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church at Leota. He attended the Milton United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Shane M. Survivors include a son, Max Packwood of Campbellsburg; a daughter Ginny Sue Brummley of Scottsburg; two sisters, Bonnie Crane and Wanda Packwood, both of Salem; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was also a member of the Chuckles and Cheers Clown Ministry and Phi Beta Psi Sorority. He was also a former truck driver and school bus driver for West Clark Community Schools. He served many years as the time keeper for the Henryville Hornets basketball team. Waddell of Lilly, Ky.; three sisters, Ollie Blankenship of London, Leatha Riley of Mereian, Id., and Margie Handley of Hollywood, Ca.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 29 [1999], at the Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin. The Rev. David E. Simpson and the Rev. Harold White officiated. Burial was in Davidson Cemetery. DOROTHY SIZEMORE, 52, Austin, died on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. The Lexington, Ky., native was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Harrison Sizemore; a daughter, Dottie Spencer of Scottsburg; a step-daughter, Kathy Gibbins of Crothersville; two brothers, Herbert Vires and Hubert Vires, both of Austin; three sisters, Irene White and Faye Smith, both of Austin, and Patsy DeHart of Oldtown, Fl. Services will be conducted (today) Saturday at the Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Hedgepeth officiating. Burial will be in the New Providence Cemetery near Austin. |
