CHARLES B. "DEE" GRIMM, 72, New Albany, died Saturday, December 28, at his home. He was a native of Kentucky and was retired. Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Joan Rake; a sister, Duck Grimm of Madison; four brothers, Dale Grimm of Texas, Schubert Grimm of Corydon, Arthur Grimm of Louisville; and Gilbert Grimm of New Albany; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 31, at the Kraft Chapel with burial in St. John’s Starlight Cemetery. Kraft Funeral Services handled the arrangements.

ROY M. SPRIGLER, 61, New Albany, died Friday, December 27, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services. He was a native of New Albany, a retired employee of General Electric Company in Louisville and was formerly in the U.S. Army Reserve. Survivors include his wife, the former Beverly Jordan; four sons, Matt Sprigler of Georgetown, and Jeff Sprigler, Russ Sprigler and Dustin Sprigler, all of New Albany; a daughter, Shelly Hupp of Jeffersonville; five brothers, Meinard Sprigler of Sellersburg, Joe Sprigler of Jeffersonville, Danny Sprigler and Chris Sprigler, both of Floyds Knobs and Simon Sprigler of Orleans; four sisters, Sylvia Kruer of Starlight, Annie Schindler of Charlestown, Joanie Ruff of Jeffersonville and Priscilla Meek of Floyds Knobs; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 31, at St. Mary of the Knobs Church with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. Kraft Funeral Services handled the arrangements.

MAY GOODPASTER, 90, Palmyra, died Saturday, December 28, at Indian Creek Health Center in Corydon. She was a native of Mousie, Kentucky. Survivors include four sons, Robert Leslie of Indianapolis, Howley Bolen of Michigan, Wilburn Goodpaster Jr. of Corydon and Vern Bolen of Indianapolis; two daughters, Exie Schurm of Indianapolis and Stella Skinner of Mesquite, Nevada; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 1, at the Love Funeral Home in Palmyra with burial in Palmyra Cemetery.

LUCY MAE MASON, 82, New Albany, died Sunday, December 29, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany. She was a native of Harrison County and a member of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary in New Albany. Survivors include three sons, Carl E. McAdams of Central, Kenneth Wayne McAdams of New Salisbury and Robert Allen McAdams of Corydon; two daughters, Theresa K. Perry of Edwardsville and Rita Moran of New Albany; three sisters, Rhoda Ewing, Helen Burch and Mary Flanigan, all of New Albany; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 31, at Gehlbach & Royse’s Georgetown Funeral Home with burial in Edwardsville Cemetery.

DORIS MARIE RICE, 87, Georgetown, died Friday, December 27, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in New Salisbury. Survivors include three sons, Lewis Rice of Paoli, Charles E. Rice of Georgetown and Wayne Rice of Palmyra; two daughters, Phyllis Rice of Scottsburg and Margaret Diaz of Milltown; a sister, Dorothy Lain of Columbus; 28 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 31, at Gehlbach & Royse Georgetown Funeral Home with burial in Edwardsville Cemetery.

RITA M. BAKER, 83, Lanesville, died Wednesday, January 1, at Harrison County Hospital. She and her husband, the late Paul Baker, owned and operated Bakers Store in Lanesville. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Blue Army in Lanesville. Survivors include two sons, Paul T. Baker of Indianapolis and Donn W. Baker of Lanesville; a daughter, Vicki Kemp of Indianapolis; one sister, Mary Alice Beach of Lanesville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. JASON L. STONE, 23, Pekin, died Tuesday, December 31, at his home. Survivors include his parents, David and Kimberly Walton Stone; his fiancé, Jessica Mossey of Pekin and her children: Devin and Mason Mossey of Pekin; a brother, Jeremy Stone of Pekin; grandparents, Cecil and Wilma Stone of Palmyra, Harold Lloyd of Pekin and Ruth Ann Jackson of Pekin; and a great-grandmother, Betty Morgan of Pekin. DENISE B. KLOTZ, 46, Liberty, N.C., died Wednesday, January 1, at Wesley Long Hospital in North Carolina. She was a native of New Albany, a project manager for Bank of America in Greensboro, N.C., a member of Unity Church of Today in Graham, N.C. and a member of the Women’s Resource Center in Burlington, N.C. Survivors include her husband, Madison W. “Matt” Klotz; her mother, Connie Hancock of New Albany; three sisters, Therese Bachmann of Jeffersonville, Valarie Russell of Floyds Knobs and Stephanie Cox of Jeffersonville; and a brother, C.T. Bachman of New Albany. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 4, at the Chapel of Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, N.C. FRED M. AGAN, 83, Borden, died Friday, January 3, at Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Louisville. A native of Orange County, he was a retired school bus driver for Salem and Floyd Central Schools. He attended Borden Church of Christ, was a member of Corydon Saddle Club and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Jordan of Borden and Carolyn Setters of DePauw; a sister, Audrey Rake of Floyds Knobs; ten grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 7, at Weathers Funeral Home with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery with full military graveside rites.

CHESTER L. MELTON SR., 83, Floyds Knobs, died Saturday, January 4, at Floyd Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Floyd County and was retired from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of Scottsville Christian Church, the F.O.P. and the National Camper’s Association. Survivors include two sons, Chester L. Melton Jr. of Jeffersonville and James W. Prather of Georgetown; two daughters, Patricia Prather Nordhoff of Georgetown and Rose Mathews of Jeffersonville; a sister, Naomi Grunden of Kentucky; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. SEVERUS G. "BID" UHL, 95, Palmyra, died Sunday, January 5, at Harrison Health and Rehabilitation Center in Corydon. He was a lifelong resident of Bradford and a retired farmer. He was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Bradford. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Jane Book of Bradford and Mildred Rueger of Evansville; nine sons, Maurice of New Salisbury, Jerry of Corydon, Sam of Floyds Knobs, and Harlan, Jim, Bob, Tony, Bill and Fred of Palmyra; a brother, Bill Uhl of Bradford; 30 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. FAY O. STEWART TERRELL, 79, Jeffersonville, died Saturday, January 4, at Clark Memorial Hospital. MARY F. GESWEIN, 81, Lanesville, died Saturday, January 4, at Westminster Health Care Center in Clarksville. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lanesville. Survivors include her son, Wayne Geswein of North Vernon; two daughters, Janet Davis of Henryville and Linda Byerley of New Salisbury; a brother, Frank Naville of New Albany; a sister, Elizabeth Kiesler of Greenville; and six grandchildren. J. HERSCHEL "HERSH" RUSSELL, 83, Georgetown, died Friday, January 3, at his home. A native of Floyd County, he was a retired laborer and maintenance worker at the old Louisville Cement Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a recipient of the Bronze Star medal and of a Presidential Unit Citation. He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, Indiana Sheriff’s Association, National Rifle Association, a lifetime member of VFW Post #1693 in New Albany and a member of Edwardsville United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, the former Helen M. Prenatt; a son, James E. “Sonny” Russell of Navilleton; a sister, Vivan Barr of Georgetown; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. GLADYS LOUISE POWELL, 75, Charlestown, died Saturday, December 28, at Clark Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Charlestown, a retired custodian of Greater Clark County Schools, a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, George J. Powell Sr.; two sons, George J. Powell Jr. of Clarksville and Jerry W. Powell of Charlestown; three daughters, Patricia A. Stivers and Debra Miller, both of Lexington, Kentucky and Janet Haworth of Jeffersonville; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. ESTHER MARIE BARE, 87, Charlestown, died Thursday, December 26, at Longworth Villa Healthcare. She was a housewife and a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Charlestown. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Monday, December 30, at Grayson Funeral Home with burial in Charlestown Cemetery.

WILLIAM P. LEAKE JR., 62, New Albany, died Monday, December 30, in Old Hickory, Tenn. He was a native of Evansville and a pharmaceutical sales representative. Survivors include his wife, the former Gerry Shipley; a daughter, Leanne Kane of Old Hickory, Tenn.; four stepchildren; his mother, Anna Heubi Leake of Speed; a brother, Richard Leake; and one grandchild. CHARLES ALFORD BRUMLEY, 85, Otisco, died Monday, December 30, at his home. He was a native of Watson, a machine operator for Reliance Electric in Madison and a member of the Mt. Lebanon Presbyterian Church and the Blazing Star Masonic Lodge #226 in Charlestown of which he was a member since 1948. Survivors include his wife, Mary Parker Brumley; a son, Charles R. Brumley of Corydon; three daughters, Sue Long of Clarksville, Barbara L. Zollman of Huntington, W.V. and Nancy J. Ruddell of New Albany; a brother, Harry Sullivan of Henryville; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 2, at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown with burial in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. A Masonic service was held on Wednesday, January 1, at the funeral home. JUSTIN MICHAEL REISINGER, 19, Sellersburg, died Tuesday, December 31, in an auto accident on Highway 60 near Borden. He was a native of Jeffersonville. Survivors include his mother, Rosemary Cooper; his stepfather, Matthew Frazure; his father, Gary S. Reisinger and stepmother, Deborah A. Reisinger; two brothers, Matthew J. Satterly and Brandon S. Reisinger; his grandparents, Harry J. and Frances C. Cooper and Melvin J. and Kathryn M. Reisinger. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 3, at Coots Funeral Home with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery.

ADDIE ISABELLE STONER, 96, New Washington, died Friday, January 3, at Floyd Memorial Hospital. A native of New Washington, she was the former Addie Fouts, a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include four sons, Lewis Stoner of Charlestown, Buddy Stoner of Cynthiana, Kentucky, Harold Stoner of North Vernon and Daniel Stoner of New Washington; a daughter, Virginia Haycraft of New Albany; a brother, William Fouts of New Washington; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 6, at Grayson New Washington Funeral Home with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.

CAROLYN ANN McBROOM, 56, New Washington, died Friday, January 3, at Jewish Hospital. She was a native of Witchita Falls, Texas and a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Jerry Ed McBroom; three sons, Jerry Lee McBroom of Clarksville, Joseph Daron McBroom of Plantation, Florida and Jeffrey Wade McBroom of Otisco; a daughter, Angela Denise Porter of New Washington; her parents, Thurman and Edith Fox of Sulphur Springs, Texas; a brother, Mickey Fox of Alba, Texas; a sister, Nancy Kirkpatrick of Sulphur Springs, Texas; and six grandchildren. VERNAL FLOYD LYNN, 85, Charlestown, died Saturday, January 4, at Sellersburg Health and Rehab. He was a native of Casey County, Kentucky, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a chemical operator for E.I. Dupont in Louisville. He was also a home and auto agent for American Family Insurance and a member of the Calvary Christian Church in Sellersburg. Survivors include his wife, the former Eva B. Crum, two daughters, Barbara Albright of Chesterfield, Mo. and Carolyn Lynn of Charlestown; two sisters, Berniece Narr of Louisville and Mabel Fathergill of Augusta, Kentucky; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 7, at Grayson Funeral Home with burial in Charlestown Cemetery.

GRETCHEN ANDERSON, 77, Charlestown, died Saturday, January 4. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 8, at 1 p.m. at Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 10, at 11 a.m. at Bicknell Memorial Cemetery.

MICHAEL DUWAINE SHANKS, 53, Charlestown, died Monday, January 6, at his home. He was a native of Louisville and a Merchant Marine. Survivors include a son, Patrick D. Shanks; his step-mother, Joy Shanks of Louisville; nine brothers, Tony Shanks of New Albany, Patrick Shanks of Charlestown, DuWaine Shanks of New Albany, Major Shanks and Kenneth Shanks, both of Charlestown, Donald Shanks of Camp Lejune, N.C., and Jimmy Daugherty and Michael Daugherty, both of Louisville; and six sisters, Gale Davis of Arizona, Anita Smothers of Henryville, Joan Huff of Willow Shade, Kentucky, Sylvia Nasingo and Donna Shanks, both of Charlestown and Elizabeth Cundiff of Lebanon Junction, Kentucky. MARY LOUISE NICHOLSON, 72, Salem, died Sunday, December 29, at Floyd Memorial Hospital. A native of Washington County, she was formerly employed at Salem Community Schools as a Teacher’s Aide. She was a member of First Christian Church, Phi Beta Psi, Women’s Study Club and Christian Women’s Fellowship. Survivors include her husband, Franklin Nicholson; a son, Larry Nicholson of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a daughter, Linda Jackson of Scottsburg; her mother, Mildred Bush of Salem; a sister, Martha Rosenbaum of Salem; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 3 at the First Christian Church with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. Weathers Funeral Home handled the arrangements. MAXINE W. CROMER and ARTHUR B. CROMER, 81 and 83, respectively, Salem, died Wednesday, December 25, and Saturday, December 28 in Veterans Administration Hospital. Maxine was a life resident of Lawrence and Washington Counties, a homemaker who did child care in her home and a former employee of the old Leweb Industries in Salem. Arthur was a life resident of Washington County, a retired employee of the O.P. Link Handle Company in Salem and was a former employee of the old Salem Cheese Plant. He served in World War II as a Flight Officer in the U.S. Army. Both were members of the First Christian Church in Salem. Survivors include two daughters, Denese Anderson of Corona, California and Marla Weston of Holmes Beach, Florida; and four grandchildren. Maxine is also survived by a brother, Calvin Spurgeon of Salem; and two sisters, Marie Benson and Lounell Lyles, both of Salem. Arthur is also survived by a sister, Mary Jackson of Columbus. Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 2, at First Christian Church of Salem with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. Arthur was given full military honors at graveside. RONALD G. HARDIN, 54, Salem, died Friday, December 27, at Washington County Memorial Hospital. A native of Salem, he was an Elder of the Walnut Grove Christian Church near Salem, a 1968 graduate of Salem High School and served in the Vietnam War as a Spec 4 in the U.S. Army. He was a retired employee of Cummins Diesel in Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo (Chastain) Hardin; two sons, Joseph Hardin and Christopher Hardin, both of Salem; his father, Marion Hardin of Salem; a sister, Brenda Ayers of Salem; and a brother, Bruce Hardin of Indianapolis. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 31, at Dawalt Funeral Home with burial in Franklin Cemetery with full military honors.

OTHO A. TRUEBLOOD, 91, Salem, died Saturday, January 4, at Brownboro Hills Nursing Center in Louisville. A life resident of Washington County, he was a member of the First Christian Church of Salem and a former director of the Washington Township Advisory Board. He also served in World War II as a Tech 5 in the U.S. Army. He was a retired employee of the old B.F. Goodrich Company in Salem and was a former employee of the Link Handle Company and the old Smith Cabinet Manufacturing Company in Salem. Survivors include a daughter, Jean A. Duncan of Louisville; a sister, Wenonah B. Morrison of Scottsburg; and one grandchild. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 7, at First Christian Church of Salem with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.

SOPHIA LEDFORD, 85, Salem, died Thursday, January 2, at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of the Blue River Christian Church and the Salem Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #286. Survivors include a son, Danny W. Ledford of Salem; four daughters, Evangeline “Sissy” Ledford of Salem, Alice Faye Voyles of Vallonia, Phyllis Spears of Pennington Gap, Va. and Carol Jean Sanders of Salem. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 4, at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.

JOSEPH FITZGERALD LANE, 57, Jeffersonville, died Friday, January 3, at Clark Memorial Hospital. He was a native of New Albany, a loss prevention manager for Value City Department Stores and an employee of Lumatech in Jeffersonville. He was a Marine veteran, a member of the FOP in Scottsburg, the American Legion in Scottsburg and a Teamster. Survivors include five sons, James L. Lane of Jeffersonville, Joseph King Lane of Tacoma, Wa., Joseph Lane of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jeremiah B. Lane of Miami, Florida and Thomas Rip Adkins of Washington State; three daughters, Niki Humus and Dominic Barns, both of Tacoma, Wa. and Jamie Starks of Minneapolis, Mn.; a sister, Judy Mackie of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; a brother, Jimmy Davis of Salem; and nine grandchildren. The body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Chapman Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

JOYCE GILL WARNER, 79, New Albany, died Wednesday, January 1, at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany. She was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church, the Retired Teachers Association, the Women’s Study Club and many other Civic and Professional Associations. She was a native of Ferdinand and a retired music teacher and professional musician. Survivors include her aunt, Helen P. Gill and a cousin, Helen Mead, both of Salem, who cared for her. A memorial service was planned for a later date with burial in Valhalla Memorial Park in Bloomington.

REV. ROBERT F. BOWLING, 80, Scottsburg, died on Monday, December 30, at Scott Memorial Hospital. A retired American Baptist minister, he was originally from Corbin, Ky. Ordained in 1948, he served in the ministry until 1986. Memberships included Kimberlin Creek Baptist Church. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his widow, the former Helen B. McDaniel; two sons, Robert L. Bowling of Melbourne, Fl., and James K. Bowling of Edwardsville, Il.; two daughters, Sharon Davis of Scottsburg and Sandra Klopfer of Edwardsville; two brothers, William Bowling of Seymour and Donald Bowling of Gainesville, Ga.; three sisters, Janie Dixon and Ada Combs, both of Scottsburg, and Glenna Broady of Xenia, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted on Thursday, January 2, at the Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg. Pastor Stephen Mechem and Pastor Tim Lucas officiated. Burial was in Scottsburg Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be arranged through the staff of the funeral home to benefit his church’s building fund.

ERNEST H. GRAY, 84, Scottsburg, died on Sunday, December 29, at Scott Memorial Hospital. Born near Deputy, he was a retired employee of Cummins Engine Company and a former printer at Morgan Foods Inc. He was a 50-year member of the Kent, formerly Deputy lodge, Schmidlapp Lodge 408, F&AM, and a member of Scottsburg United Methodist Church and the Over 55 Scottsburg Bowling League. Survivors include his widow, the former Maud Roy Breedlove; three sons, Larry J. Gray of Commiskey, Phillip A. Gray of Johnson City, Tn., and Brent L. Gray of North Vernon; and a grandson. The funeral was conducted at his church on Wednesday, January 1. The Rev. Douglas Wallace officiated. Burial was in Scottsburg Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be arranged through the staff of the Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg to benefit his church or the donor’s favorite charity.

LELAND G. DIETERLEN, 90, Henryville, died on Sunday, December 29. He was a Henryville native and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific. A graduate of the Chicago Diesel School and a former licensed pilot, he was a retired farmer and retired employee of International harvester in Louisville, Ky. Memberships included Mt. Dieterlen of Henryville and Donald E. Dieterlen of Elkhart; a daughter, Deborah J. Adams of Henryville; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. The funeral was conducted on Wednesday, January 1, at his church. Pastor Carl Otis officiated. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery following graveside military rites. Memorial gifts may be arranged through the staff of the Stewart Funeral Home in Scottsburg to benefit the Mt. Moriah Advent Christian Benevolence Fund.

NORMA JEAN TAYLOR, 68, Scottsburg, died on Sunday, December 29, at her home. An interior decorator and bookkeeper at Seymour Decorating Company, she was a Scottsburg native and a member of Austin Christian Church, Motor Maids Inc. and the Alpha Pi Chapter, Psi Iota Xi Sorority. Survivors include her husband, Donald W. Taylor; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was conducted at the Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg on Tuesday, December 31. The Rev. David Huey officiated. Burial was in Scottsburg Cemetery. A Psi Iota Xi memorial service was conducted at the funeral home on Monday evening, December 30.

ESTHER VIRGINIA BETTS, 83, Franklin, died on Saturday, December 28, at the Todd-Aikens Health Care Center in Franklin. Born in Champaign, Il., she was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Franklin. Survivors include a son, James Betts of Greenwood; three daughters, Mary Abel of Trafalgar, Sandra Mudd of Franklin and Betty Phair of Whiteland; a sister, Cleatis McInturff; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted on Tuesday, December 31, at the Vandiver-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin. Dr. E. Richard Lane officiated. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery.

DALE J. RUSSELL, 76, Crothersville, died Sunday, December 29, at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour, where he had been residing. A Jackson County native, he was a former employee of the old U.S. Shoe Corporation in Crothersville and later retired from Morgan Foods Inc. in Austin. He was a lifetime farmer and was a member of the Methodist faith. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Edwards Russell of Crothersville; a son, Kevin Russell of Great Cranberry Isle, Me.; a brother, Allen Russell of Anchorage, Ak.; a sister, Norma Pollert of Seymour; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, January 1, at the Adams Funeral Home in Crothersville. The Rev. Ed Mead officiated. Burial was in Russell Chapel Cemetery near Tampico. Memorial contributions may be arranged through the staff of the funeral home to benefit Russell Chapel Cemetery.

JAUENITA C. NELSON, 83, Bedford, died Friday, December 27, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was born in Springfield, Il., but lived most of her life in and around Scott County. She was a retired clerk with the former Dorsey’s Drug Store, Spann’s 5&10 and the old V&V Store. She was a member of Zoah Christian Church near Scottsburg. Survivors include a brother, Robert Swartz of Grammar; a sister, Leona Kyger of Crawfordsville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 30, at the Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg. Bro. Paul E. Martin officiated. Burial was in Little York Cemetery.

MARY M. LEWIS GARRETT, 83, Butlerville, died on Wednesday, December 25, at Columbus Health and Rehab Center, where she had been residing. A native of Wolfe County, Ky., she was a retired nurses’ aide at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, where she worked for 21 years. She was a member of Dwelling Place Ministries Church in New Albany. Survivors include a son, Ronald E. Lewis Sr. of Butlerville; two sisters, Bonnie Stepp of Chattanooga, Tn., and Charlotte Evanoff of Clark County; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted on Monday, December 30, at Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg. Interment was in Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany. Memorial gifts may be arranged through the staff of the funeral home to benefit Columbus Hospice.

MARJORIE E. "MARGIE" GARRIOTT, 80, Scottsburg, died on Friday, December 27, at Scott Villa Living Center, where she had been residing. She was born in Washington County but lived most of her life in Scott County and was a retired bookkeeper for The Scott County State Bank. Memberships included the Garden Club, American Legion Ladies’ American Legion Auxiliary Post 473 in Little York and Mt. Hebron Church. Survivors include a brother, Basil Robertson of Brownstown; two sisters, Bonnie McCauley and Marie Garriott, both of Scottsburg; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was conducted on Sunday, December 29, at the Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg. Lonnie R. Lewellen officiated. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Washington County.

FRED JUNIOR "J.R." BUTLER, 76, Vallonia, died on Tuesday, December 24, at Memorial Hospital in Seymour. A life resident of Jackson County, he was born in Clearspring and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired employee of the Kieffer Paper Mill in Brownstown and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1083 in Crothersville. Survivors include two sons, Fred W. Butler of Brownstown and Brian Butler of Vallonia; five daughters, Pam Butler of Iowa, Regina Gambrel and Nancy Nicholson, both of Vallonia, Rhonda Hien of Crothersville and Deanna Cline of Scottsburg; two brothers, Donnie Butler of North Vernon and Bobby Butler of Greeley, Co.; 16 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted on Saturday, December 28, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Vallonia. Bro. Larry Robbins officiated. Burial was in Vallonia Cemetery following military graveside rites conducted by members of VFW Post 1083. Memorial contributions may be arranged through the funeral home staff to benefit the American Cancer Society.
